As a ups employee I can verify the mistreatment of packages. The hasty demand for speed when moving things through the warehouse causes chaos. Employees trying to be gentle and careful are punished and harrassed. Also jams on the conveyers can cause alot of damage. I've been building guitars and basses for about 25 years, almost all with someone else's name on the headstock, and most of them go to a company facility where it is repacked into their specific packaging, with their correct case candy. I always packed them in multiple layers of secure protection. Now that the instrument we'll have the company name of the business which my wife and I started recently oh, I will be packaging the guitars and basses even more securely now. Given that our instruments cost anywhere between $2,500 and $8,000 on average with some warranting a price as high as $15,000 to $18,000 even $20,000, and I am meticulous about everything it's a no brainer to over-package them

I've watched several videos over the last year or so. In all honesty this genre of music here really doesn't do anything for me, but neither do half of my favorite guitar channels. I like watching this one because there a bit of cognitive dissonance between the big jacked out guy in the thumbnail and what you'd expect, and the humble and gracious man you find when you actually watch it.
I get the nostalgia hit myself whenever I play something that I loved as a teenager when I couldn't afford them. I'm probably in the same age range, I graduated highschool in 1994. That was an almost musically schizophrenic time to be a teenager. When I started highschool it was Skid Row, GnR (though they were still popular later too) and Queensryche. But senior year it was Nirvana (though I was never a huge fan), Pearl Jam, mudhoney and NIN.
I remember when I bought my first Floyd Rose equipped guitar with the Allen wrench mounted on the back of the headstock. I thought it was the coolest thing because I would see it on the guitars everyone were playing on MTV. Funny how insignificant things like that have an outweighed attraction.

The last 100 watt tube amp I bought recently was shipped across the country by somebody who had no idea how to pack and ship it! I received a damage and it cost $300 to repair that fortunately the seller paid for. UPS will not pay out with their insurance if it's packed this poorly. Some people are complete morons.
I've owned a couple of professional series Jackson's. The Japanese craftsmanship is fantastic unfortunately these models are becoming hard to find and quite expensive.

The hardshell case is going to protect it almost 100% during shipping. A box and bubble wrap provides redundancy though. That said, still shitty of the sender to make zero effort in the handling department.

LOL, he says "these pickups are shit, they're so weak."
I'm thinking "Jesus those things are WAY too hot for me." As I'm doing a setup on a 335 that I just replaced the Classic 57s with underwound PAFs. I think the neck was reading 7.2K before installing, and now is at....... 6.74K.
Playing these metal guitars, you'd probably swear they were out of phase or something.
I would love to get my hands on an older Jackson or Charvel with a maple fretboard, the pickings are thin though.

Just be aware that one reason for the changeover from mother of pearl to pearloid inlays is due to the CITES treaty and its restrictions that make it illegal for a product containing shell inlays to be exported or imported in most countries. That guitar would be seized in customs in many countries and eventually destroyed. So....in part the decision to change the inlay material was made so that musicians would be able to take their guitars to other countries and not have them confiscated and destroyed.
That also applies to some wood types, too.
Stupid? Hell yes! Sad but true.

    • @ibanezleftyclub
      @ibanezleftyclub 3 года назад +2

Not true at all MOP is not on the CITES list and can be imported and exported without issue. Large commercial quantities still have to be declared and may have to go to a specific port. Please visit the gov fish and wildlife page.

I just came across your channel and I’m a first time viewer of your content. I really enjoyed your video and what initially drew me in and made me watch this was that Jackson, I immediately knew what it was as I was scrolling and I have to say that the rhoads signature Jackson’s are/is my dream guitar… I have been playing for 20 plus years and never owned a Jackson only played them either at guitar center like you stated in the video or either someone else’s and just love the way that the neck of the guitar is flatter and they don’t have the ‘C’ shape like fenders and most other brands, basically everything you said is what I love about Jackson’s also the reverse headstock orientation. I used to own about 7 guitars at the height of my collection and sadly had to get rid of them at one time or another either to pay bills or when I became homeless back in 2009, and one of them happened to be a B. C. Rich Kerry king signature Flying V with the white tribal graphics which I believe I saw one on your wall. But, I just wanted to say that it seems like we have the same taste in guitars and I’m envious of your collection from what I saw in this video, and You/ your axes sound great and hopefully I will be there one day, I haven’t owned a guitar for almost a year now and with the pandemic and my shit job and on the verge of being in the streets again, currently, one can only hope to be where you are one day. Keep it up brother!!! I look forward to watching future videos of yours like this!

I have no idea why someone would drop a set of Duncan Designed into a MIJ Jackson. My guess would be they pulled whatever came in them initially to put in another guitar and slapped these in as a placeholder. There's no way a Pro would have those pickups in.
After some digging, these models came with an SD SH-2 in the neck and a TB-4 in the neck. So yeah, someone took out the old pickups to do something with them - I wouldn't be surprised if the dude you bought this from dropped the the Duncan Designed into them and then sold the pickups separately for an extra bit of cash.
We're totally different guitar players but I love watching your stuff and it's always a joy to see someone love guitars and metal so much. Keep it up, Kev! \m/

In the mid-90s, when i was 15-16 years old, i bought a R. Rhoads Flying V Performer from the money I had saved. (actually it was money my grandma had saved for me)
It cost me 1000 Deutschmarks in Germany.
It was literally all the money in the savings account and I could do whatever i wanted with it. So, it was extremely well invested in this guitar.
Nowadays this guitar would be priceless, also qualitatively, although back then it was "only" a Performer model, which with "Made in USA" and "Professional" was the lowest level.
Unfortunately I left this guitar in the rehearsal room a few years later after an argument with my bandmate.
I never saw her (the guitar) again.
These are the things that make you angry all your life.
