My mother was aspirating due to dysphagia. Everything she was putting in her mouth was going in her airway and she didn't even realize it. So, when she went to the hospital with aspiration pneumonia they restricted everything by mouth. Well, that goes for everything - water and food. The docs continued to withhold even after 4 days. No IV hydration, no food, nothing! My mom was coherent and was begging for something to drink because her mouth was so hot. She was basically starving and at that time she was 91 years of age. The docs told me to basically let nature take its course and let her move on already. I was screaming at doctors to give her something to drink or at least IV fluids because she was 100% coherent and suffering. Finally after day 5 they started fluids and after getting with social workers at the hospital and basically threatening them with lawsuits due to being inhumane, they at my request inserted a PEG tube to feed her through stomach feeding on day 6. However, even after the procedure, they had to wait another 24 hours to start the feeding to prevent infection. So, my 91 year old mother went 5 days with NO water, NO IV, and 7 days with NO food! I can't even imagine how she survived, but it proved to me how resilient the human body is. She lived another 4 months after that and eventually succumbed to aspiration pneumonia because she was stubborn and wanted to have her morning coffee and eat breakfast. However, at least she was able to live the last few months happy and not starving or restricting her of anything. She died in her sleep just 5 months before turning 92. So, if my mom who had several underlying health issues can go 7 days without food, anyone can! However, I would never ask anyone to go without water for as long as my mom did.

I played around with prolong fasts and I think my sweet spot is 3 days. Lost about 54 pounds since January. I still need to watch out during my refeeds though.
@JBaker-yu3dr I started out water fasting for 24hrs. Atleast once a week. And moved my way up to 5 days a week fasting. And maintained that for a few months. Now I'm at a steady 3 days a week. Think of it as a hunter/gatherer diet. Eat a few days, good, natural, wholesome foods, then give your body a few days to digest and use the food.
As an "older" person (76), I am conflicted between those who say we need to meet our protein goal daily (generally 1 gram of protein per pound of ideal body weight) to avoid osteoperosis and those who say to fast for weight. loss, autophagy, and all the other good benefits. It seems there are two different models with very legit authorities advocating each. So confusing!
I'll make it easy for you mate, do your 1p/K protein commitments every day.... Except for the last 24 hours of the week. The following month, do the same, but 1 of the weeks try a 48 hour fast at the end. The following month do the same as week 1, but for one of the weeks try a 36 hour fast. Your body won't miss the protein because it's only a small portion of the month. Good luck.
Check Pottengers Human channel. He talks a lot about fasting and says muscle growth accelerates after fasting it’s unlikely we would’ve survived to this point as a species if we weren’t equipped and benefit from going without food and actually can serve our muscle well
If you are prone to kidney stones or issues, 1gram protein/lb is way too much. I wouldn’t follow that advice long term. I ended up with horrible kidney stones when I upped my protein. I weight 115lbs and just aim to eat some meat everyday and take an iron supplement along with vitamin d/k, magnesium and collagen (also in lower doses as it can create kidney stones). And watch oxalate foods!
One of the main things people don't talk about fasting is that it raises cholesterol in gall bladder. I was a avid faster for a long long time, maybe over 8 years, and recently they told me, I had gallstones I was in denial. I said, I eat salmon, extra virgin olive oil when cooking, garlic, how on earth can I be unhealthy. I was into IF, OMAD. And then I researched, and found that when you fast, the cholesterol forms gallstones in the gallbladder. I am not a doctor, but the research is out there. go research fasting and gallstones
Nah man, fasting is most definitely beneficial. Everyone’s body composition is different maybe certain people have a propensity for gallstones. I’ll never go back to eating after 6:00 pm.
What happens if you done ibtermid fasting for 16h to 48h since 18 and are now 42,how would that translate into what we talk about now, ketogenesis autophagie and lowering of testosterone and growth hormone, what about other hormones enzymes etc...thanks 4:34 💯🐐❤️
the thing with 36/48 hr fast is that I cant sleep well the second night . I tried everything and not willing/able to try more unless its one time a year or 2 which is not what am looking for needed two times a week) . I can not sleep and i get fast heart beat and spend the next day depressed with lack of sleep even after eating. Instead of 7pm to 7 am could it be 2pm to 10pm next day for 34 hrs. Then i can eat at 10 pm not best to eat late but i can do a fast pace one hour walk and go to bed around 12:30. I tried it and it went well but is the late eating a big concern? Its not everyday but it is 2 times a week. Am skinny after these years on keto. Not looking to loose weight and dont want to gain but i want authophagy.. Any thoughts ?
I've had this exact experience each time I've tried 48 hr fasts - it's always on the second night and I could only fix it by getting up at midnight and drinking mineral water. So maybe it was magnesium?? I've been trying to psych myself up to do it again, but did not like the heart beat palpitations
@@Lou-Lou_Bell I have the same heart palpitations its because the body is switching to burning fat instead of sugar, they go away after about 2 days I do butter in broth the fat helps a lot once your through transitioning over to fat burning its easier to do water fasting and skipping the butter

Type 1, I don’t know. But Type 2, not only can they handle it, but fasting will cure their diabetes. Talk to your doctor about how to manage any diabetes meds you take while fasting. They could drop your sugars too low. Look into Dr. Jason Fung’s resources about diabetes.

I want to do fast but I'm already skinny / under weight. I just want the health benefits like getting rid of old cancer cells stuff like that.....what should i do?
Start slow with lean gains fast (8-16) eventually to OMAD (22-23 hr.) 24 hr. fasts , ADF (36 hr. every other day). This is the most effective for me, but hard to maintain over time. Sometimes do a bone broth fast instead of water fast. Consider going to Carnivore Diet and resistance training. Both will help you gain muscle weight. Do this before going for longer fasts like OMAD and ADF. Protein is the key. Those are my thoughts. 😀
check out Pottingers humans channel he talks a lot about the benefits of fasting on muscle growth for people who are underweight that’s what you want to add is more muscle tissue and apparently that can happen after a fast
@@Action_Clips_CODM OMAD= one meal a day. ADF= alternate day fasting (eat one day fast the next. Comes to 12 hr. eating then 36 hour fast. Break this fast with Bone Broth or you may get Turbo diarrhea .

I might get hate for this but it needs to said. Eating "disorders" is a poor excuse to complain about being obese. Fasting is the most safe and amazing way to heal the body while one can also reduce weight. The bigger and more sister issue here is how being obese has been allowed to be a normal thing nowadays. Nobody has "fat phobia", we just know you can do better for yourself. This fat acceptance culture will put far more people in a grave if we continue to not call obesity out.
I just recently lost the use of my knees. They won't straighten and they HURT like a MF. I'm going to try an extended fast and see what happens. If they quit hurting, cool. If I die that's cool too.
Ive had the same thing. Fasting is a great tool but you have to couple it with gentle and low impact exercise. The biggest mistake I’ve ever done was not exercise. I know you’re like how?? I’m in so much pain. Ironically, exercising as best you can, even leg lifts in a chair, eventually start relieving the pain and stiffness. Your muscles have atrophied and aren’t supporting your knees. It’s an excruciatingly painful nightmare to start, there’s no way to sugar coat that, but you have to move to get nutrients back to the knee to start the rebuilding process. The way that I’m doing it and finding success is I fast (currently doin 2 meals in 6 hrs). Twenty min before my first meal I exercise (search upright physical therapy on here for knee rehab exercises) then I eat and ensure it’s quality protein and veg to feed my muscles. It’s a very slow process but if you’re consistent daily, you will see gradual and marked improvement! Hope you try it and it helps!
I don't have enough self-control to go past a week. My knee still hurt like hell. Finally broke down and went to the ER and they gave me some hydrocodone in a packet of prednisone. If that doesn't work then I'm definitely going to try to fast again because at that point I will have no options. Sorry to keep everybody on the line but you know how it is being human

Whole, one-ingredients foods, focusing on protein and fat. No processed food, sugar, grains, or seed/vegetable oils. And depending on your issues, you may also want to limit fruit and veg. If you’re obese or insulin resistant or have fatty liver, cut out fruit. If you’ve got gastrointestinal issues or autoimmune, cut out or limit veg. Some people do a fatty meat and water only diet just as an elimination diet to see what reverses, then they slowly add stuff back in one at a time.
@LauraB.335 Sounds good. You think you could list a few meats, veggies. And fruits that 1 could obtain would be very helpful. you sound informative. I understand fasting.. But I think people need to have a clear understanding of what it "looks like"
Dr these ideas do work! but climate isn't included in these scenarios as we are from hot temperature location and not have a luxury of climate control at our house(air condition.)I almost got to stop fasting due to extreme high temperature in summer. I've lost 200lbs in the last 14 months. Fasting is the way. I'm down to only a 5mg blood pressure pill a day. And that's going away soon.
how many hours did you fast and did you do any long fasts?
@JBaker-yu3dr I started out water fasting for 24hrs. Atleast once a week. And moved my way up to 5 days a week fasting. And maintained that for a few months. Now I'm at a steady 3 days a week. Think of it as a hunter/gatherer diet. Eat a few days, good, natural, wholesome foods, then give your body a few days to digest and use the food.
Great information. Thanks!
Well your body is usually expelling food from a day or more before so it is still consuming some protein on a shorter fast like 35 hours.
@@juliekrolkidney stones much more likely from oxalates from vegetables than high protein diet,
One meal every 36 hours, keep it 500 calories or below. Meat, cheese, limit veggies and fruits, and water. That is all you need to keep going.
Try a gallstone flush
True.
Are you okey now?
I guess its better than having cancer
Nah man, fasting is most definitely beneficial. Everyone’s body composition is different maybe certain people have a propensity for gallstones.
I’ll never go back to eating after 6:00 pm.
I do a 7 day water fast every two years. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Sir how fastiing works for fatty liver repair and how much one should fast in the age of 50..?
Are there risks to acquiring gallstones under this method/lifestyle?
What about migraine women's please suggest dr.
It took me multiple attempts to conquer the 36 hour fast, felt mentally tough once I was able to pull through and finish it.
On 44 hours of a 72 after just completing a 48 hour fast a few days ago
Is drinking black coffee no sugar good for fasting?
Yes
Is fasting good if you are already slim
you ever try it for ulcers from nsaids?
It's been 3 yrs I follow one meal a day
I was waiting for the life time Cancer risk prognosis after a 7 day fast but I don’t think it was mentioned.
Can one have a water addiction?
The smart phone would be more like the packet of cigarettes. Carry it everywhere and put it on the table beside you.
Fasting 24 and 36 hours is the joke for me I always Fast 48 and 72 hours, 72 hours is the best
I do 96 hour, total body reset.
the thing with 36/48 hr fast is that I cant sleep well the second night .
Are you supplementing electrolytes? Sounds like a magnesium/ potassium deficiency. Most long term fasters supplement their electrolytes.
Try some butter before bed won’t break your fast but might help you sleep. Dave Asprey talked about it
I've had this exact experience each time I've tried 48 hr fasts - it's always on the second night and I could only fix it by getting up at midnight and drinking mineral water.
@@JBaker-yu3dr ah ok that makes sense. Thank you, I'll give that a go
Agreed, your title should reflect your content - this is misleading for sure
Can u drink anything like tea during the fasting period
Yes. Without milk.
36 hours helps with atophagy
I did a 72hrs fast 5 months ago and IMMEDIATELY I got more energy and I felt a LOT less hungry. My feet just want to keep on walking. But. When I eat I don't feel like stopping. It isn't my body, it is my mind. Ever since I have been doing a 36hrs fast every week (my schedule makes it easy to skip meals) and I feel better, have lost SOME weight and I still have the extra energy. Lol, and I don't feel bad about what I eat (not that I am stuffing myself with cola, ice cream and McDonalds.)
So how exactly do you “repair the body on a 36 hour fast” and how do you “do it correctly”? Content does meet headline.

Dr. Can diabetics take a three day water fast
I’d like to know the answer to your question also.
Type 1, I don’t know. But Type 2, not only can they handle it, but fasting will cure their diabetes. Talk to your doctor about how to manage any diabetes meds you take while fasting. They could drop your sugars too low. Look into Dr. Jason Fung’s resources about diabetes.
It will lower your sugar and help insulin resistance
That is why Hindus do Ekadashi fasting. They start one day before and they do till Dwadashi time in third. Twice a month. A reason why all this is followed by ancient Hindus
What about coffee?
You can drink black coffee on a fast
I want to do fast but I'm already skinny / under weight. I just want the health benefits like getting rid of old cancer cells stuff like that.....what should i do?
Start slow with lean gains fast (8-16) eventually to OMAD (22-23 hr.)
24 hr. fasts , ADF (36 hr. every other day). This is the most effective for
me, but hard to maintain over time. Sometimes do a bone broth fast
instead of water fast.
Consider going to Carnivore Diet and resistance training. Both will help
you gain muscle weight. Do this before going for longer fasts like
OMAD and ADF. Protein is the key. Those are my thoughts. 😀
check out Pottingers humans channel he talks a lot about the benefits of fasting on muscle growth for people who are underweight that’s what you want to add is more muscle tissue and apparently that can happen after a fast
@@jodyjackson5475 interesting thanks.

Once I am over 18, I'm not even that hungry anymore Easy to go to 32

I might get hate for this but it needs to said. Eating "disorders" is a poor excuse to complain about being obese. Fasting is the most safe and amazing way to heal the body while one can also reduce weight. The bigger and more sister issue here is how being obese has been allowed to be a normal thing nowadays. Nobody has "fat phobia", we just know you can do better for yourself. This fat acceptance culture will put far more people in a grave if we continue to not call obesity out.
Então os viciados em Crack aqui em minha cidade, devem ter uma saúde e tanto!
Let us know what happened
Well??
I don't have enough self-control to go past a week. My knee still hurt like hell. Finally broke down and went to the ER and they gave me some hydrocodone in a packet of prednisone. If that doesn't work then I'm definitely going to try to fast again because at that point I will have no options. Sorry to keep everybody on the line but you know how it is being human
I've tried IF on several occasions but I can never sleep
Have you heard of melatonin...

WHAT SHALL I EAT ON 1 MEAL DIET(24 HRS FASTING)
Whole, one-ingredients foods, focusing on protein and fat. No processed food, sugar, grains, or seed/vegetable oils. And depending on your issues, you may also want to limit fruit and veg. If you’re obese or insulin resistant or have fatty liver, cut out fruit. If you’ve got gastrointestinal issues or autoimmune, cut out or limit veg. Some people do a fatty meat and water only diet just as an elimination diet to see what reverses, then they slowly add stuff back in one at a time.
@@LauraB.335 So true. Very clear explanation.
@LauraB.335 Sounds good. You think you could list a few meats, veggies. And fruits that 1 could obtain would be very helpful. you sound informative. I understand fasting.. But I think people need to have a clear understanding of what it "looks like"

Mostly carnivore with tiny amounts of fruit or vegetables, but you can do only carnivore foods, if desired!
Fasting makes me shed a lot of hair. Feel like its to risky. Also, as we age don't we lose too much muscle when we fast?
Absolutely u will lose muscle 💪 no doubt that’s why interment fasting is better takes abit longer with a1c drops but it heads right way
Muscle loss ocure after longer periods. Not after 2 or 3 days. (You do need strength training to keep and even develop muscle in old age).
That may work for women but what about the women with their hormones and cycles???
Correction: that may work for MEN but what about women???

Dr these ideas do work! but climate isn't included in these scenarios as we are from hot temperature location and not have a luxury of climate control at our house(air condition.)I almost got to stop fasting due to extreme high temperature in summer.
