LYRICS
In early takes
The ones not ever heard
We keep the bleeding road
A sound that we know for sure
Each passing street light sunrise and sunset
The endless reachable
The closer we get
Both front seats full
Straight for the non-exist
Meant to be doing this
Crash the car through the stars
Burning in yellow glow
Floor it and don't let go
Crash the car through the stars
Running the reds of should and should not do
The sirens fade away
Now nothing can change this view
The ride shakes violently, hold tight to beliefs
What's never been before is where we want to be
Hearts and seats full
Straight for the non-exist
Meant to be doing this
Crash the car through the stars
Burning in yellow glow
Floor it and don't let go
Crash the car through the stars
Yeah always knew
Crashing through
Yeah now it's true
Crashing through
Straight for the non-exist
Meant to be doing this
Crash the car through the stars
Burning in yellow glow
Floor it and don't let go
Crash the car through the stars

Such odd lyrics, but an incredibly moving melody.
You're just a big 'ol softie,
Really???? What am i missing??
@@Jimd905 Are you genuinely perplexed because you can't fathom anyone being affected so positively by this particular piece of music, simply because you don't feel the same way about it? I mean, surely you can relate, as far as knowing what it feels like when a piece of music does resonate with you so strongly, no? Obviously, what it is that gets one person off, may be something vastly different than what gets someone else off, but the outcome and feeling is universal. Anyway, moral of the story, you're not "missing" anything, this song just isn't your jam, and that's perfectly fine. Peace.. DC

Genevieve’at her best indeed!!!!!
Some of her other performances are outstanding also but yea, I I think this tune really suites her vocal style and I am impressed with the tune and performance. I have a bit of trouble getting used to the boxy sounding drums but all this is brilliant considering this is garage and bedroom production. BTW.. I can't help think that Janet Jackson was a big influence on GA in childhood. Very similar style in my opinion. Loving Knowers continued success and music making.
These people don’t take themselves too seriously with their silly outfits and such. But make no mistake, this is one of the most beautiful songs ever written/recorded.

This is definitely not my favorite stuff from them lol. The house jams from years ago eat this for breakfast. I enjoy new releases and have nothing but respect for this but I don't get the hype for it over previous killer output.
I am loving this vocal range for Genevieve. It's a great change from the short, higher, rhythmic notes; lower and sensuous, this band is so freaking good.
this comment section is a bunch of music nerds gushing and i am totally here for it. this is my current favorite song.
I just love Sam. Whatever he's playing, he's 200% into.

I always knew Genevieve had range but it's always nice to be reminded of it. And Louis just nails any kind of music he composes, can't stress enough how brilliant he is
That "modulation up" after the beautiful bridge was a master-stroke. That felt so good. Genevieve's voice really opened up there.
and is actually the first time the choir start using open vowels, so the whole texture opens up heavenly
Yeah that key change is like "wtf key are we in now?"
Hey KNOWER - 5th grade science teacher here, love your music
When my kids had finals last year, I gave a pump up speech to each class and used this song as an "emphasizer" :))
My pump up basically consisted of me encouraging the kiddos to push through even when they doubt themself, crash the car through that wall!
Extremely proud to say they scored the highest in my charter network for 5th grade science finals!!
Your music has always been a grounding sound while I plan through lessons. I constantly come back to this song when I have a day where my lesson doesn't go as I planned. This song reminds me that sometimes, you crash and burn and sometimes you crash through the non-exist.

I had to snap it to a buddy, with a "so long since I heard live strings in music." And I was gobsmacked when I started listening to the record. Didn't expect a beautiful string intro in Knower Forever :)
I never thought I'd find something I miss every second of the day, and it would be these works of art I yearn to experience. Thank you everyone. Please just don't stop creating. It's making the whole universe better.
This is the type of music that changes the world
@@emaniacgames8391 Couldn't agree more with both of you.
I am convinced that Genevieve doesn't have a "vocal range." She just wills whatever she wants to sing into existence for a given song, and it's always fire.
I'm left with feelings I don't understand.
I've always wanted to make music that creates that reaction
The last 30 seconds of Jacob Mann twoodling out 80s synth notes while 50 professional musicians stand arround doing jack shit is the most Knower shit ever. No notes. +1

when you feel yourself about to say "I'm not crying, you're crying" as you tear up listening to this alone in your house, that's the sign of perfect, beautiful, magical music. I have only known of you for a couple months, KNOWER, and you have been melting me right from the start and ever since.
I came to say this made me cry, and then found that so many comments here are reporting the same thing. These people are so powerful with the tunes.
When the strings came in my jaw dropped. Beautifully orchestrated. Looking forward to listening to this new album.

Me too, in fact it's the first digital album i have ever bought in my life!
That sax solo was heavenly.
Ok so this will be long, but whatever.
So, i enjoy all the knower songs, but i Love this song, because it has outgrown the knower songwriting formula. Not that they sound the same, but its so easy to stay in a lane.
To all those that say, "this tempo sucks" or " not funkky enough" let me tell you something. You have no idea how hard it is to play with restraint and meaning. Anyone can spray a flurry of notes and shred, but to play with s p a c e takes extreme skill. There is no missing or excess parts here, this is as close to perfect you can get. Music is about decorating silence, and what you dont play, and this is it! Its the modern "here comes the sun" sure it sounds simple, but start counting "here comes the sun" and identifying parts, its really crazily written.
Ive got this on loop all day, and its really sinking in, and actually is the only piece of music, if anything, that can pierce this shell i wear.
Thank you!
Y’all this shit has me in tears 🥹
Right here with ya🥺

Check out That's Where You Are if you hadn't, by far my favorite of theirs. (Also just one of my favorite tracks ever, period)
The way it comes in really reminds me of Joni Mitchell - Both Sides Now, as well as some other parts from that one, like the bass at 1:10
Binney slayyyyyyed that solo. Even just that opening line was nuts
has such a nice structure
Since the 1980s, when i started listening to and playing jazz music, I’ve found myself wondering what jazz might become in the 21st century. This is it.
This is a very challenging vocal performance executed brilliantly. These chord progs and modulations are very difficult and sound awful if not nailed.
The mix is fire. The strings and horns and of course drums are dripping with the right amount of lo-fi analog juiciness. And the vocals are properly bright and full.
Next level Grammy material.
That Saxaphone part comes in so perfectly, and the vocals of course are so good
Genevieve's voice and saxophones are such a complimentary mix
the saxophone was the only part of the song i disliked. it was so typical sax solo and didn't at all match the vibe of the song.

TBF some of the bass fills are really fun for a ballad, and don't feel out of place at all. Very impressive arrangement.
You can tell he's jazzing hard from his stank face.
You're right, this should be played everywhere! I work in IT at a healthcare company and I think I just convinced my scrum master to play this song at our team retrospective tomorrow. I can't wait.
In one night I’ve learned of Louis Cole, KNOWER, and now I’m about to eat a tofu sandwich. God bless America. I’m 76 years young and I have hope for these kids now.
I was with a unit about 9 years ago here in Boston, opening for them with Nate Wood. They were really cool folks to chill and rap with. I had never heard of them before, but I remember Genevieve warming up in the green room before their set, and there was something about her voice that sent chills up my spine! Then when they went on and did their set, and......HOOOOOLY SH*T!!! I'd NEVER had my mind blown in quite that way, and ever since then I've not only been a fan, but a student of theirs. This new material is a really interesting turn in their evolution as artists, and it will be really fun to see where this goes! God bless you guys, and keep up the incredible work!
You lucky, lucky, lucky bastard. Her song Before the Dark murdered me.
These videos blow my mind every time, there's so much to take in... incredible music and vocals, the video editing, there's a choir outside the garage, a full orchestra in the living room and kitchen, sax soloist hidden behind a door, Tyvek suit camera man, guy on a metal flying-V style guitar playing jazz chords... my senses are overwhelmed, and I'm loving it.
Thank you for summarising that - I don't have to 😊
Love this advanced group of superior musicians..well, they've found the new window of opportunity to enter into an "Alice through the Looking Glass " type magic ... a world so easy to take in and how about David Binney lighting up that Alto Sax... Wheww.
Who else paid USD10 at band camp but keeps watching this here on repeat?
This piece of music is one of the most spectacular things I've ever heard. They achieve something universally beautiful here, with humour, humanity and a fully joyous execution. Knower Forever.
Seriously - there's something about the melody and progression that feels profound and timeless.
I also experienced the timelessness yet so present at the same time
Seeing Genevieve come alive in this song is like when you suddenly see someone you have know for a long time in a new light and they are more magnificent than you could have ever imagined!
Still watching on June 1st 2023 after all this time.
glutton for punishment
Loving the way the arrangement supports Genevieve's singing! Great showcase for her vocal talents.
Also, every time I see a video produced in this house, it makes me happy. This music is legitimately coming straight from the artists to us. They make it look pretty easy, but producing a song that sounds this good, with so many musicians filling up a whole house is bananas.
The fact these are basically live recordings. The absolute quality everytime in Louis mixes is his most underrated skill.
I like to imagine the neighbors enjoying a house of beautiful music on the block.
Dave Binney is the man!
Wilkes on the bass is probably my religion by now
Genevieve, your voice is what I think of when people say angels are singing.
This collective deserves all the success in the world. This is where things need to go. Listing all the good things in it would simply be listing everything in it, but somehow Genevieve's more forceful delivery after the bridge seems the one ingredient above all that was needed, with the phrase-ending vibrato at 3:37 just so gorgeously perfect.
This song marks the evolution of human music. This is one of the most beautiful, funky, soulful, silly, and impressive songs i think I’ve ever heard in my 3+ decades of music listening.
BTW the whole album is absurdly good… like not a single bad track.
Thank you, KNOWER! I gave you extra on Bandcamp!
Can’t get enough of that sax solo - the first run 4:02 ❤
David's sound isn't my favorite, but it fit really well with this song.
ITS SO GREAT BEST SAX SOLO EVA
I just noticed the connection between the lyrics to this song and The Abyss. Gen seems to be lamenting the fact that they keep it real and make amazing music, and yet they are relatively unknown, while untalented pop stars get all the attention and money. I like it. I think a lot of us who are struggling musicians feel the same way.
The vocals from Genevieve at 3:58, absolutely godly

She's just perfect in this song. Or this song is perfect for her. Or both. It's all perfect.
The bass is so good. The snare sounds edible. The arrangement is unique and delightful. The mix is balanced and punchy. The instrument selection is wonderful. The minimalist vibe is perfect. Great job guys!

And I’m not even sure how to describe “Do Hot Girls Like Chords”. It’s almost metal. With a legit guitar solo. There’s also what sounds like an actual Clown Core track with Genevieve singing on it. I definitely hope those first two have video. It seems like the whole thing was recorded like this.
