Just found your video. I have a '66 Caprice with a 327 and the same problem with the steering box. Have been looking for some shorty headers and you saved me a lot of headaches. Thanks for posting this - it really helped me out!
Would you have a part number and make of the shorty headers that work on your 66? Shorty’s now seem to reference as,”block hugger. The shorties that you found that work, they don’t have a slanted exit? Straight and flat at the exit flange? Not in the way of the starter and solenoid on the passenger side? Great video. Not much out there for 65-70 B body Chevy’s
the brand are headman headers, they are not hugger headers and stay clear of the starter, they don't make them anymore from what I've seen@@paulmacdonald4712
great video! thank you for showing all of this. I was about to buy stuff that companies claim will fit, but I searched for steering box issues with headers for my car and found many people saying exactly what you said
The Hedman Street Headers fit GREAT on these cars with a SBC. The 681 series clears well. I'm running the Hedman 68173 Black Ceramic on my 1967 Impala. Fit like a glove. 68173, 68170 and 68176 all fit well on these cars. Only real difference between them in the header finish.
Does the drivers side hang low, which is typical of many off the shelf, multiple application headers. How much clearance do you have on the drivers side? Is your front end stick height or lowered?
@@paulmacdonald4712 Nope- no driver's side sag with the Hedman. The tubes are very much level with each other. Stock spindles in my front end, but I did recently convert it over to full tubular A-arms from Global West, with QA1 coil overs. Maybe 1.5 inches lower than stock. I've used the headman on the bone stock suspension and it still fit perfectly. For driver's side clearance, were you asking between the header and the power steering box?
Thanks for your responses bro, it really helps navigate to the correct headers for our application. More of ground clearance. I have 30 year old Flow tech 11100 FLT’s on mine. I have 3” of clearance at the front tubes. 2.5” at the flange due to the driver’s side drop. At the steering box? The tubes cleared? No dimpling.. Wasy access to all plugs? Again no dimpling of tube 1 on drivers side?
I see the dipstick tube is on the drivers side, while the 350cu in 4-bolt 1975 era is passengers side. Like you, trying to use the OE cast iron exhaust manifolds doesn't have room for right side oil tube. It right in the way. Didn't want to do heads as all matching the 86 Monte SS look. Still scratching my head! Thanks for the video.
Cool video 😃 I have a 1965 Chevy c10 and I'm having a very similar issue as yours, with my truck the inner part of the wheel well stretches past the steering column and gets in the way, and sure enough the muffler shop mechanic recommends the exact same headers that finally fit yours. Thank you Peace ☮
Man just yesterday I was pairing up headers on a 350 I just put in a '68 Impala that has the gear box in the same place and they didn't fit. This video is right on time! Thank you for sharing👍✌️
I was having a hard time finding what would fit my 70 lowrider. I kind of think I'll probably just leave the stock manifolds on. I don't have patience for things that don't fit or might hit the ground when layed out, but informative video describing exactly what I needed to know
Thanx man, so hard to find fitment information. I switched to a mini starter so my only issue is the steering box. Ill look for the center piped on the outside.
Hey Marcos do you have the part number for the Edlebrock long pipes? Great video bro! I live in Florida so it's Bueno!Oh dang! They're "No Bueno" too!I'll keep the Ram's Head.
I have long tube headers on my 78 camaro. They are headman hustlers. They fit beautifully on both sides. They clear my steering box, and my clutch linkage. They also have a ball shaped end on the collector, so you do not need collector gaskets.
@@cali530marcos3 mine is stock height, with new heavy duty Z28 coil springs. If I recall, they don't hang below the sub-frame. Car is in my garage in the next county, when I go down there, I'll check, and let you know. I've had MANY cars over the years, and put headers on most of them. These are probably the best fitting headers I've ever used.
Another pair of headers that will clear the steering box are some long tube Hooker headers for 65-89 chevelle. Only issue u will run across is if the vehicle is low.
I too have a 66 Impala, and want to know which headers are correct for my kit! do you have any recommendations for me?, What I can do? Thanks, I appreciate your answer, regards from Mexico vato!!
I wanted to run the stock ram horns because they flow good and have the stock mounting holes for the alternator but mine broke at the collector so I had to buy aftermarket ones because they were cheaper for now, but I want to go back to stock eventually
66 Nova with 350 small block and CPP power steering box - TWO failed attempts so far. Sanderson shorty headers - rubbed shock tower on driver's side, but clear on passenger. Rams Horn manifolds - clear on driver's side, but rub shock tower on passenger side. Have an OE set of factory 327 manifolds coming - praying driver's side clears the CPP PS box.
Took me a couple of headers to find the right ones, ur application is probably harder to find headers for since they came with an I6 and the shock towers location, unless u pay big money

Do they clear the spark plug wires?
@@savageboi2389 mine clear the plugs fine. But, I do run accel "shorty" spark plugs. That adds just a bit more clearance.
Hey man don't know if you're still looking some ram horn manifolds or not , but there's a set on marketplace in North Carolina for sale , Jimmy
i think i might switch over to ramhorns, having a hell of a time trying to seal these headers, i have a small exhaust leak
Hey man what Edelbrock intake is that what model ? Does it clear your hood ?
Yes it clears, it’s an Edelbrock victor jr 2975 if that helps
after you put the headers did you get vaper lock or heat soak because the header is very close to the starter you will need a heat shield?
No, the starter is just not going to last as long because it’s close to the header
Very helpful. Thank you!
Glad I can help
