The bell housing was the sturdiest mounting to the engine test stand. I made this one myself, but there are a handful of company's out there that make them. Just search engine test stands. They are kind of expensive, that is why I made mine.
The cam is a comp cam 262H-10. summit racing part number CCA-12-238-2. This motor was based off of a car craft article that I read, where they used a stock 305 on dyno and started changing parts to see what the gains were. This cam alone on a stock 305 made like 47 horsepower gain. I am totally happy with this build. It turned out just as I wanted. Thanks for watching and commenting.
They were stock heads. Can't remember what the casting number was, but my research stated that they were not the HO head # but were still small combustion chamber heads. I could get you the casting # if you wanted it. Stock compression should have been about 9:1. The head work that was done clearancing the intake valves, opened the combustion chamber up a little. I then went with a 0.015" head gasket to make up some of what I took out of combustion chamber, and retain as much compression as I could. Figure it's between 8.5:1 and 9:1. I worked these heads over. Intake valves were clearanced, ports were matched and bowls were worked. New valve springs and locks to match cam, and valve lap job. They flow a million times better than they did when they were new. I am very happy with the build. Thanks for comment.
I wish I could buy a new big block for 3k. I would go buy a couple. If you know anything about engine's you can tell from the video that this is not your grandma's 305.Lol! I know the price is on the top end, but building a 305 cost the same as building a 350. Same parts less cube's. The lowest price I see anywhere on a remaned 305 long block is about $1800 without shipping, now add up all the stuff needed to finish a long block. Valve covers, timing cover, oil pan, intake, carb, fuel pump, water pump, complete distributor, plugs, wires, air cleaner, ect. Then if you buy a remaned engine it probably has used parts like pushrods, rocker arms, ect. Where this engine all those parts are new and better, like roller tip rockers, comp thumper cam, ect. plus the head work that was done makes this engine run better than any plane jane reman.Anyhow, Thanks for the comment
bbc in the shape as this 5.0 will run you atleast$5500. other than the bore the 305 had poor flow so opening up the heads a bit and s big intake ad a cam itll pick 150hp so yeah i can believe its 300hp
$350 engine, HaHa! This isn't the engine out of your moms 1984 El Camino. with 80,000 miles on it. The brand new summit racing carburetor on top of it cost $300 alone. @@kourtneytannis4319 If you need a carburetor, I highly recommend this one. Part # is in the description of the video. The 600cfm is about perfect for the 305 engine. They also make a 750cfm model. But if the car is running fine with the 750cfm, there would be no reason to change it. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. Thanks.
What all did you do to this 305
IT'S IN CAPITAL LETTERS IN THE DESCRIPTION!
everything is listed in the video description. Thanks
Is this engine for sale?? Do you sell engines?? will it fit under the hood of my 86 monte carlo?? How much is it $$$.

How much hp is it making
Probably 275. No dyno numbers. It wasn’t built to be a powerhouse. Just better HP than stock and reliable.
Stay tuned. I have a 454 big block I’m getting ready to build. I’m going to try to follow it from build to vehicle. Thanks for the comment.
@@Ruthlsss 275 is not bad I’m askn cuz I have a 305 myself I just wanna build it up to cruise it around n just to keep up wit traffic better lol
Yeah, this would be the perfect build for that. I’m not sure if you noticed, but all the parts I used are in the description. The cam is the biggest asset. It gives about 47 HP above stock. And sounds good doing it. So check out the description, if you haven’t already. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. I will help if I can. Thanks!
So why do you have a bell housing on there you just run this in your garage
The bell housing was the sturdiest mounting to the engine test stand. I also have pieces for the test stand that would just bolt to the block where the bell housing bolts on, but I liked the bell housing mounting better. My engines only run on this stand for engine break in purposes or until they find a home in a vehicle. Hope this answers your question.
Thanks for commenting.
WEBSITE? How do you order this?
Order what?
@@Ruthlsss this crate engine.
@@w41duvernay This engine and test stand was built by me. Not bought. Where are you located? I would be willing to build something for you, if you were close. I just got done with a 454 and put it in a 87 Iroc Camaro. Videos coming soon.
What cam you got in there ???
All of the engine specs are listed in video description. Thanks.
We’re the factory pistons dish pistons? Did you consider flatops? I’m about to start on one and not sure best route to go and would love your input!
Where can i get a engine stand like this from?
I made this one myself, but there are a handful of company's out there that make them. Just search engine test stands. They are kind of expensive, that is why I made mine.
Great build! I would like to get the cam specs if you don't mind?
The cam is a comp cam 262H-10. summit racing part number CCA-12-238-2. This motor was based off of a car craft article that I read, where they used a stock 305 on dyno and started changing parts to see what the gains were. This cam alone on a stock 305 made like 47 horsepower gain. I am totally happy with this build. It turned out just as I wanted. Thanks for watching and commenting.
+Ruthlsss thank you for the specs! I really appreciate you taking the time! Great video, engine will send you a link when I finish my 305! Thanks
What heads did you used? Compression ratio?
Hey
Add the part number you used
All part numbers for main parts are listed in video description.
Is it still available
No. Sorry. I changed the post. I ended up getting a 1968 chevy c10 that it calls home now. Lol!
Sounds good..how much hp? 200? Lol

The hate is real.
LITTLE ONE
Need a lot more than a cam and head work to get 300hp out of a 305. They’re solid engines but not worth trying to get hp out of.
dont just repeat the bullshit you were told, try to use your brain
$3200.....rather go buy a new big block instead..highest lil 305 i ever seen
Where this engine all those parts are new and better, like roller tip rockers, comp thumper cam, ect. plus the head work that was done makes this engine run better than any plane jane reman.Anyhow, Thanks for the comment
chevy williams ..... put down the crack pipe!!!!!
bbc in the shape as this 5.0 will run you atleast$5500. other than the bore the 305 had poor flow so opening up the heads a bit and s big intake ad a cam itll pick 150hp so yeah i can believe its 300hp
bone stock 305 with chrome valve covers do not make that kinna hp. 350.00$ engine.
$350 engine, HaHa! This isn't the engine out of your moms 1984 El Camino. with 80,000 miles on it. The brand new summit racing carburetor on top of it cost $300 alone. If you read the description, you would see all the new parts that were put in it, and if you knew anything about cars you would know better. The HP rating is off of theoretical numbers. It is somewhere between 275 and 300. Go back to your SUPERHOGGBIKE, and don't be a hater.
You asswipe
super cock gobbling bike.....................www.hotrod.com/articles/ccrp-9903-305-chevy-small-block-engine-build/
weak revs
No reason for a 305 $3200 boat anchor
How true eric how true .. what a waste of effort ...
There are certain occasion's when it makes sense to keep and use a 305. Obviously, if you're building a non original racecar there's other choices.
