- So before I jump into the Decky Loader world, first I wanted to spend some time exploring Steam Deck's built in customization options. Spoiler alert? There's not a lot there. But, I figured I'd document poking around in the settings just the same and I expect next week's video where I take it up a notch with Decky Loader will be a lot more fruitful.

I get why people create some additional apps to tweak the interface because, as you've shown, there's not a lot going on by default. And now I will also always think of MK whenever I hear Toasts Notifications 🤣! Great video and keep up the good work!
Yeah, I guess with as playful as Valve is as a company I figured there'd be more somehow? LOL I mean, I can see how someone got there it DOES remind me of TOASTY! when I was a kid 😂
I like organizing stuff :) Great video, Josh!
LoL you and me both, brother! Hope you've been well!
Hey Josh, I hope you're having a great week so far. I jordered Assassin's Creed: Shadows for PS5, Luigi's Mansion 2 and I just ordered Tomb Raider I-III Remastered for PS4 and that's it. I will not buy more Games this year but I'm waiting to see which Games are going to be Announce in June, I might get Splinter Cell Remake and Uncharted remake if, and only if they come this year (January at most).
Hope you've been good too, man! Congrats on the new games en route and here's hoping we finally get some Splinter Cell news soon!
@@YourPlayer2 Hey Josh, I hope you're having a great day/week so far. One more week and we should have great Announcements, hopefully.
It is a shame how little built in customization there is but I do like the relative minimalism of it at the same time, a bit like the Switch.
Glad you mentioned Decky Loader, been meaning to reinstall it since I semi-recently uninstalled it due to a pretty major bug which made it so menus were completely broken. Other than the occasional issue Decky Loader is mostly pretty great though. The GridDB plugin especially is great if you don't like the default artwork of a game. Be interested to see what you're thoughts are on DL.
Right? Like I was surprised at how little there was to play around with. I've been seeing a few reports of general bugginess with Decky Loader so I'm slowing down a bit on that video until I get a better handle on it! I also liked the idea of that proton plugin that gives better compatibility info.
0:25 What is that game called??? o:
It's called "Modnation Racers". It was only released on the PS3, PSP, and PS Vita. I 100% recommend emulating the PS3 version on the Steam Deck. It runs very well and It's in my top 5 Kart Racing games! Enjoy!
FYI The recent Steam Deck update really messed with Decky loader. Alot of the packs are nerfed!
Appreciate the heads-up! Slowing down on it a bit thanks to comments like this and seeing reports of glitches and whatnot.
I sort of like steam's filtering, it just seems oddly limited to me... Most notably I miss a shooter category. It's just under action, but I would say first person shooters should be their own thing. If I say genre action, sure I get things like Borderlands and Forgive me Father... but also Hades, GRID Legends (?) and CHRONO TRIGGER (???).
Although now sitting at my Windows PC, I see you can actually search for store tags as well, and there's FPS in there... That works, just not sure if we have that on the deck (and I'm too fried right now to go and check).
I'm surprised there isn't a tag to filter on for that? And WEIRD that it doesn't have its own designation given that it's such a popular genre! Oh, lol well looks like you found the tags :p
The lack of customization on Steam for the Steam Deck is kind of weird.
The only new waking up cutscene I can think of is the Dead Island 2 one which is kind of cool, but ya that's about it. I kind of want them to allow people to make their own wake up cutscenes and be allowed to post them on Steam point shop, it would allow myself to actually use those points for something cause I've only spent them for my Steam Deck, beyond a few profile things anyway.
Agreed- like hardly a dealbreaker but I was surprised that they don't give you a bit more flexibility over the aesthetics. Here's hoping I can find some 3rd party solutions to pretty it up a bit without compromising stability o_0
Thought "toast notifications" came from Toasters
No idea! But sounds more plausible than Mortal Kombat :p
Decky loader seems glitched and keeps on messing up the interface for me.
Yeah I'm doing a bit more research at this point before I go all in on trying it. I mean I could always do a factory reset if it gets too wonky I guess but I'd like to avoid that if possible.
