I’m in the first 500 too. I’ve been flying FPV over 20 years and have spent WAY more than this for googles in the past. These are the best ever made for zipping around. Variable latency is un-flyable to me… My brain flys in real time through breakups… I need the space time continuum to remain solid to do that effectively. Dealing with noise (analog or digital) is what hardcore FPV is all about.
Phenomenal goggles for HDMI input use! We use for a small town volunteer fire department and for all sorts of public safety use. Combined with the DJI “Camera Drones” like the Mavic-3 Series, using the HDMI output of the DJI RC-Pro or RC-Plus (Plus model mod’d for use with Mavic-3), it is ideal for the drone operator or assistant, subject matter expert - especially in HazMat incidents, incident commander, etc. It’s so much easier to view things in full detail using goggles vs. a conventional display in many instances. Especially in bright sunlight.. The owner of HD-Zero, Carl, is a very nice and very knowledgeable gentleman. The support is absolutely fantastic and appreciated. Probably the best company out there in the UAS world. The only issue we encountered was that we were having some minor “stuttering”, which I’ve heard was fixed in firmware many months ago… we just haven’t bothered updating the goggles. I guess that shows the “stuttering” really isn’t too bothersome after all. LOL
Absolutely unreal! What a system! Fastest HD video system in the world! I love the ELRS Backpack for racing! Easy seemless video channel changing! Looks like all my race quads are going HDZero and ELRS baby! Thanks Chris and the HDZero Team! Cheers!
Hi Chris, great presentation as always!! I love the flexibility of these goggles. I can use them with my hdzero vtx drones, and analog drones (with goggle expansion module). Plus with the hdmi input I can also attach the Walksnail VRX to these goggles and fly walksnail as well. For racing HDZero is hands down the best, but for freestyle I may use the Walksnail VRX with the HDZero goggles for better penetration and video quality. I would love to see a review of how well the HD Zero goggles work with the walksnail VRX. It would be awesome to see comparison of hdzero goggles with walksnail vrx vs Walksnail googles. Thanks again for the great presentation, looking forward to more content from you.
Great review! Best I’ve seen by far. And thanks for the advice to order ASAP. I can’t wait to get my hands on the goggles for both digital and analog use.
I got my goggles in the first 500. My only gripes are a little rubbing at the nose (thin padding that I'll probably replace) and the fan noise (hopefully will lower fan speeds in next firmware update). Can confirm the 90hz cam really does feel much more locked in than O3 for me. Low light performance is also way better than O3.
If fan speed can be adjusted via software I'd like to see a setting for it over a reduced speed. Rarely is noise a concern in hot environments but for bench testing I would appreciate reduced noise
I have a large protruding nose bridge and just added a tiny piece of foam at the edge of the faceplate where it rests on my nose. Works great. It was a piece a weather strip and I sliced it to thin it down and stuck it on there
Awesome review Chris 👏 I am really impressed with these goggles the build quality surpassed my expectations and the experience in the goggles has been so comfortable and the screens are very crisp and clear truly a great upgrade for HDZero! 🤟👍
The OpenSource claim is in my view rather marketing. The real core of the system (ie video transmission) is closed source and the HW core is single vendor. But hey, you can change the menu layouts etc.
@@ChrisRosser correct. So we agree that HDZero is not really OpenSource - as all other systems too. The real core of all systems is proprietary. So why such agressive marketing?
I think it's valid because the main criticisms of DJI and Walksnail systems were not down to the video link but features such as Betaflight Canvas Mode. FPVWTF had to root DJI to work on those features and we had to rely on Walksnail to implement them. HDZero's open source software makes it super easy to add support for new features in the future so they will always get the new stuff first. In FPV there is a consistent trend of open source software surpassing closed source in terms of perfrormance and features (ELRS, OpenVTX, Open/Edge TX, Betaflight).
I was really looking for this review !!! Thanks Chris! I'm really looking for your tests of WS/Caddx RX with these google. Latency, picture quality etc... Also I can't wait to see 1080p DVR from that googles. Looks like this may be the perfect choose.
I dont think there is another goggle which provides -6 to +6 focus adjustment. Although Skyzone04 claims this in their specs, they have now said it is actually -6 to +2. The HDZero feature seems to be a significant differentiator. Really nicely structured review.
The 720p looks far less 'muddy' than the 540p, but the added fps might close that gap when in flight. Also. I am excited for your new testing...as always, lol!
If this is running linux, it would be nice if we can open a terminal and connect a bluetooth keyboard. That would be a great computer where you can run some command line applications :)

Apparently, 4 match stubbys oddly work better than any patches. Give it a shot Are the additional links to the image comparisons not linked in the description?
Correction: Not *all* of the software on the goggles is open-source. The HDZero "app" is open-source (i.e. all the code that HDZero did themselves for the goggles), and that is what's on HDZero's github, but that app runs on a Linux fork of some kind, which the manufacturer (of the SOC it runs on) hasn't fully released (and is accused of GPL violations because of this)...
I'm curious how much latency do you give up, if you run at 1080p30? Having analog levels of latency at SD quality is nice for racers, but I'm interested how far behind something like DJI is on latency, when using HD quality video feed.
Just got mine, I have a triangle nose, I can feel the goggles touch tend of my nose, my hd02's don't do that. The faceplate being stiff is an understatement, it took me a couple minutes to get it to snap on.
Hey Chris, Do you have a recommendation for mounting the new runcam nano 90 in your AOS 3.5 O3 frame? I'm going to move my o3 system over to my 7" and use HD-Zero on the 3.5. I'm thinking 3d print TPU and ditch the carbon o3 mount but curious what your thoughts would be? Have you seen a good 3D print yet? Looks like not much on thingiverse yet for the nano 90
This is very unlike you, maybe you didn’t know maybe you did but I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt because I consider you to be one of the few honest reviewers in the hobby. The googles are not in stock like you make then sound to be here. They’re on pre-order, so saying “he’s not going to be able to keep them in stock at that price, they will sell out” is a complete lie. I went and purchased them thinking they were in stock because of what you said here, it’s likely I won’t get them until at least mid March.
It wasn't a lie. They were in stock (same or next day shipping) when I released the video 5 days ago. Now the first batch has clearly sold out! I knew they would be popular. I'm really sorry you didn't manage to score one of the first batch. At least you got the wholesale price though. I'll remove the front of the video as it's not needed any more. Thanks for commenting and letting me know so I can fix it. 👍
The faceplate is really hard to snap in. So I installed my patch antennas on the front then taking a closer look the faceplate was not snaped in all the way from the factory. I'll have to try when I get home from work and not squeeze my patches so hard in the process.
Jitteror differences in latency on the video link is potentially even more important than latencyitself. as a constant latency can be anticipated for by the brain and completely removed. At 22.45 the Jitter in video link or difference in latency is the lowest on the Walksnail 720p. Basically offers the most consistent anticipation and should potentially be even better for racing ?

Concerning MP4 vs TS recording. I think TS will give you an advantage in one case only. TS only gives you an advantage, if the goggle battery connection falls off. That's it. Well, this has to be proven but I am quite sure about it.
The panels themselves are in fact 1080p 90hz. While you can only get those two traits separately running HDZero, you can take full advantage of the display via HDMI in from a Walksnail module at 100hz or Velocidrone. The way I see it the 1080p 90hz panels just make the goggles more versatile.

I think walksnail is going to be the winner for me and many other people.
You aren't describing latency from vtx to camera and then to goggles. You're only describing latency between frames displayed, which is 100% pointless.
The test method measures glass to glass latency from camera to goggles. Both single pixel (pipeline) and full frame. Frame rate only affects full frame latency.
@@ChrisRosser No, no it does not. Not only do you not go into the "methodology", you only actually show quite literally a bare minimum measure of the frames AT the goggle. You aren't fooling me, bro. Go get them sales tho.
What? He and others are measuring glass to glass. Also regardless what you feel he is measuring, his method is the same for every goggle, and setup, so the differences are still valid differences.
Mystery D, no offense, but you're wrong. He's measuring glass-to-glass latency. He's not measuring latency between frames. He's described his methodology in previous videos.
In my opinion misleading information. You excplicitly mention to buy the goggles before and then, only 24 minutes in you mention that you earn a commission. There is no way that your opinion is unbiased if you earn off the sales and that should be mentioned before sending everyone off to buy buy buy now, don't think, buy now. Disgusting
The people who use the link don't pay any more and help support the creation of this free content for everyone to watch and enjoy. They are positively contributing to independent reviews and content that benefits everyone. I won't recommend a bad product. Its not good for me or the community.
@@ChrisRosser Overall, I like your approach but while I do not agree with the aggressive tone of the comment, I think he has a point. You are a well-known authority in FPV by now and do bear a certain responsibility with these kinds of things. Simply saying to buy them or not falls short of that responsibility. I'm not criticizing the use of affiliate links in principle, but there needs to be no doubt about potential conflicts of interest, especially if the review is pretty much 100% positive, including a prefaced call to not lose time and buy them ASAP.
I think you're misrepresenting the guy here. He did not tell anyone to go buy buy buy what he said was "IF YOU KNOW THAT YOU WANT IT" stop watching now and go take advantage of the preorder because the product is heavily discounted and stocks will not last. Nothing "disgusting" in that at all. The fact in the product is super fresh on the market and there are manufacturing and shipping challenges out of china right now because of Rona. He gave good advice. And besides every single reviewer is taking commission off these affiliate links even friggin bot grinder is at this point. Chillax dude
@@aLurchi3 The problem lies mostly with the sellers. I used to review FPV stuff years ago, and never had to use any affiliate links, so it was easier for a reviewer to show his/her comments were totally unbiased, since you clearly didn't benefit if you praised the product. But then companies started pushing their affiliate link systems, because they want to see which reviewers generate the most sales, and if you don't comply, you simply don't get any new things to review.

What? He and others are measuring glass to glass. Also regardless what you feel he is measuring, his method is the same for every goggle, and setup, so the differences are still valid differences.
@@MysteryD Chris is one of the most scientific testers - go research his methods in his previous videos and then come back and amend your post
He did not tell anyone to go buy buy buy
what he said was
"IF YOU KNOW THAT YOU WANT IT"
stop watching now and go take advantage of the preorder because the product is heavily discounted and stocks will not last.
Well, Chris hasn't a gun pointing at our heads... thanks for the review Chris¡¡¡
Oh, hey. You also forgot that you need to explicitly state that links you provide are affiliate links and earn you money.

Oh, hey. Watch to the end of the video.
@@KaminKevCrew I can barely take 4 minutes, let alone however long this was
@@MysteryD Good piece of advice is to grab "enhancer for youtube" from your browser extension store. Allows you to speed up the video using your mousewheel which helps greatly with video viewing nihilism.
@@MysteryD then why even comment? You're trying to call someone out for not doing something they're legally required to do, except they did fulfill their legal obligations.
Evidently you are able to take enough time to both write your initial comment and reply to me. If you're not going to watch the whole video to make sure you're right, why even comment in the first place?
Was looking at a set of these.i teach children here in UK fpv and been donated lots of box goggles amongst other items from friends gal kremmer.syncfpv.lee scofield and numerous companys.but would love to give them an experience of hd.gonna have to rase some funds.looks great
