Yeah I get how mercy players feel but I won't lie coming from Overwatch 1 to 2 dealing with the most average Joe mercy is so much harder now with the addition of the easier super jump. I never had to deal with that too much in my plat lobbies back in the day cause it was a tricky bug and now I just see it everywhere.
Yeah its too easy now. And people use it as their cover so instead of being a mobility trick to get cover or something, they just do this super predictable 1) fly to person, 2) bounce straight up 3) profit.
Ah the good old days of "You either kill Mercy first or eleventh" gameplay. Thing about this rework and the balancing tho, was that it was really the first signs of trouble in a lot of people's eyes about how the devs were balancing the game and how they were adjusting things. I remember the big talking point at the time was how Jeff and the team refused to revert changes and would adjust things at a microscopic level and pace until months had passed and they just ended up sledgehammer nerfing them into the ground to deal with it.
There is some information missing about Mercy's changes to her Moth era. First, she had OP 4 INSTANT rez in and out of Valk. Then she had OP double INSTANT rez in Valk or single INSTANT rez without Valk. Then she had a cast time OUTSIDE of Valk but could still double INSTANT rez during Valk if you saved rez for your Valk. FINALLY all instant rezzes were REMOVED entirely and she couldn't gain 2 stacks of rez anymore. Just one cast time rez, with or without Valk with a 1.75s cast time and 30s CD AND they nerfed her GA speed bonus in Valk from 100% to 50%. AND some time later, her healing was nerfed too and they changed the game so boops would effect back flying heroes (like Valk Mercy).
Release moth mercy had rez, ult, rez again, rez twice more because of the low cd and the length of valk. and then one final rez because the cd for rez would be lowered right at the end of her ult. Basically 2 instant rezs and 3 extra ones over the course of 30-40 seconds while mercy was also healing/damage boosting and basically unkillable
@@jaakezzz_G no, the time where she had a cast time but still double insta rez during ult wasn't mentioned. Neither were the nerfs to her GA speed bonus during Valk etc.
As a friend that has multiple support mains and as a dude that plays anything,I can assure you the people that hate Moth Mercy the most is Mercys themself (I almost got punch by suggesting bring her back to my Mercy main friend)
As someone who has gained mercy since day 1 of OW1 its definitely better she's where she is now. Other mercy mains can hate me all they want but the amount of full team Resurrections I had for an insane comeback was absolutely ridiculous
I don’t play mercy, but I remember her team resurrect when I was younger. I think they should make a new category that is just like arcade but all old overwatch stuff. Get a good memory lane going.

This was a classic back in Mercy's glory
Watching the ult charge speed mercy had during her launch mass rez era is insane. I picked her up during that era but you forget how crazy it used to be every fight.
I remember way back when, years before OW2, I hadn't played the game at all, and I remember thinking "wtf why would they change her resurrection from an ultimate into a standard ability? That seems kinda BS. Her replacement ult sounds terrible as well", since even then I knew how iconic her res ultimate was. But now, after having actually played the game with the release of OW2, I realised "actually yeah. This is probably for the best. Also Valk isn't as bad as I thought it would be" Edit: Also, when I originally started OW2, I remember thinking a few times "Wouldn't it be cool is Valk made resurrection happen faster, or be on a shorter cooldown?" but then I realised "Actually no, that would be kinda busted"
I was part of the Gm playerbase that categorically refused to play Mercy. After a couple of games that season I quit for a few months. It was unbearable
She is far more fair, the thing is that she’s really fun. Strong, yes, but only if the one playing her has good mechanics, positioning, and game sense. Only thing bs in my opinion is the hitbox
I used to play like a month ago,80% quickplay, normally tank and dps, i want to say, when someone used mercy has to be focused otherwishe we lose but in soloq no one did qwq
What’s funny now in ow2 is people still have this same mentality that the mercy needs to be the first to die in every situation. When in reality there’s an ana (or any other supp) free shooting on high ground throwing nades and adding infinitely more value than mercy is. Mercy is not the most popular pick in high level play. She’s barely picked unless there’s good heroes to dmg boost but even then the other supps provide more. Dmg boost is valuable yes but the majority of the player base plays mercy incorrectly let’s be real. Masters and above is where mercy players actually do things.
Mercy needs a higher skill ceiling and they just keep making changes that lower it. Sure, the point is a hero with little to no mechanical aim required, but there are more types of skills than that, and we see other heroes like Rein who have little mechanical aim but still has abilities that can be countered or punished (outplay opportunity baked into the Rein v Rein matchup). It seems that Mercy's skill is juggling different priorities. She was built from the ground up to have to choose between different options: healing, damage boosting, or dealing damage with the blaster. On top of that, she has to think about movement (with Guardian Angel) and she can only heal/boost a single target at a time, forcing you to choose. My first big critique is that the blaster is almost never used, and it having it serve a secondary function means more choices to make, which means more depth to the character and more skill expression in decision making. I remember back when she would run and hide for rez I had a few ideas for a rework, and part of that was allowing the blaster shots to heal ONLY the Mercy player (meaning headshots heal for more). Even if the damage portion had to be nerfed to compensate, it gives the blaster a function and Mercy some agency to fight back and stay in the fight instead of just hiding. Also, I had it as the best way to generate ult charge, and ult charge nerfed a bit overall, so along with fundamental changes to rez it meant that only the higher level players would be able to get enough value to use it specifically at points to generate additional ultimate charge, and that would increase the skill ceiling while not changing how your average Mercy plays. Basically gaining an ultimate gave you a single rez charge, and they could stack up to five times. I'm not particularly attached to the idea and Mercy has changed a TON from the days of five man rez. At any rate, if her mechanics of locking beams are going to be a binary mechanic where skill cannot yield more value, only in the decision making, we need more choices and depth if the skill ceiling is to be raised. I do think it is a good critique to bring up "binary" mechanics though, because if an ability cannot be done "better" or "worse" then there is less variation in output from skill and the skill ceiling can only go so high. My next big critique is there is no other support who is still stuck in the OW1 model more than Mercy. The original game was built around teamwork, so having a character without much agency wasn't as much of a problem. In OW2, where the focus is on allowing each member to have a larger impact on the outcome of a team fight or a game, she is still stuck in the past. Even her movement ability requires other teammates to function. TLDR: She needs more agency and impact while increasing skill expression; hopefully maintaining the play style that so many people enjoy.
I played in the last year of Overwatch 1, so I never saw Mercy in her previous iterations. But with how much people complain about rez now, I can't imagine moth meta with people literally dying twice and coming back instantly. I would complain about it too.
I remember back when Mercy got reworked. I used to play her occasionally and was the best Mercy in my group so when she was broken I wasn’t able to flex anymore and was basically forced to one trick her. Climbed like 300-400 SR from mid plat to Diamond. As soon as I hit Diamond I quit Mercy for good and refused to play her anymore. Even today I rarely ever play her because of the PTSD
i wish more than anything to go back to the days i played mercy paintball in the living room every night and my mom would say “heroes never die!!” from the kitchen to encourage me
Now I understand why everyone targets mercy as soon as a team sees her 😂. I’m new and started playing overwatch when OW 2 came out so I never knew these things lol
Right. I just want to fly around like a pretty princess and provide my team with my callouts. I don’t care if they buff her movement but nerf everything else, I don’t care if she becomes a throw pick. I just want her to be fun again😞
real it was so fun. take away the stupid hit crouch to super jump that they added in ow2 and revert her movement to ow1. they said that putting super jump on a meter made her movement too strong and instead of just reverting that they gave her a 3.5 second cooldown.
Losing a whole ass teamfight and jumping into a dva bomb that tried to block the mass ress. Only to time the invulnerability frame of the mass ress to the explosion is soooo gratifying and gave you a high.
I still to this day have a firm belief that mass rez wasnt broken and shouldn't have been removed. Annoying sure but not broken. Honestly it can work in ow2. Heres how I would have changed it to an ultimate. Change it from area to los. Reduce the radius of the res to 5 or so meters. Put a cast time on it. Similar to what she has now on it but slighty faster Have it that if the los was interuppted at any time the rez on that person would be cancelled. For example if she is ressing two people and her los is broken for one of them only one person would get ress. Have her E give whoever is attached to a movement speed buff. This way there is more outplay to mass rez, the big team rezes are still possible but harder to pull off. (Even though the whole 5 man res thing was already crazy rare. (A bit dishonest with how often people claim it happened) Plus hide and seek will die due to it not being instant.
I actually miss the days when they reworked her after they changed her ult..Omg she was a speeding bullet flying around..Her gun was able to kill a whole team by herself when she popped ult..Instant one person rezz..The good old days
Mass rez completely went through walls. Mercy players would sit under 2nd and 3rd point in Gibraltar just to rez. "Die on point," was such a common phrase. As much as I personally enjoyed the mass rez, that was garbage. Edit; Thinking on it, I feel like if they didn't add the invul during rez and made it LOS probably would have been a good balance for mass rez. But valk might have been the better direction.
Two things missing in the video are 1. How broken she was in valk. In terms of her infinite blaster, her speed and her literally broken hitbox making it near impossible to hit for even the best hitscans. 2. How much mercy mains inflated in their elo and mmr since back then all ranks were performance based sr increased and suddenly every mercy is doing double as much on all stats (healing, survival, rezzes, kills and damage even). That gave mercy players in that first patch such an insane elo boost that many of them were respectfully not in the elo they would have normally deserved. This kinda fueled toxicity between players and mercy mains that try to play a different character in that higher elo but ultimately fail. Its definitely not their fault that they were kinda throwing the game if they didnt play mercy, but it fueled so much toxicity that blizzard implemented private profiles soon after to have a shield against toxicity. Its kinda sad they didnt try to nerf the old mercy. Simple things like only being able to rez in LOS or max of 2-3 players or cast time would have heavily nerfed mercy 5man rez to the point that its more playable.
I remember the mercy mafia, getting one of their more hardcore ree's banned from the blizz forums was a badge of honour, especially as they did that shit on NA and EU, refusing to stop spamming until mass rez was returned
I still remember watching a reaper kilo my whole team, following him as he killed the hog, and then rezzing everyone around him as he emoted. Or my suicidal rezzes flying out of spawn in hanamura to bring my team back
as a player that started in overwatch 2, i think ressurect even now is a crazy ability that doesnt make the game feel good. but damn, being able to res ur whole team with an ult is just crazy
Yeah she could always rez behind walls, half AND full walls, when rez was her ultimate. I've rezzed my fallen team while standing underneath the payload in the last defense spawn of Gibraltar.
what do u mean with "i didnt remember u can do it through walls"?.... dont u remember u could emote/sit on top of the village point (nepal), wait for ur team to die on point and ress them FROM THE ROOF?...
I played ow1 close to realise and I had a friend who said Mercy is completely fine the way she is (5man rez while being safe) and she was arguing with everyone that it's balanced and stuff and if someone dissagreed you could feel her anger xD I wasn't aware at all of how delusional it is but now I do... also Mercy was getting POTG every single game which was boring... Tho I wish support players were able to get POTG now for doing support stuff and not getting triple kill...
Was a DPS player for a team, but we had our mercy leave and got another DPS player and had to fill that spot, it was horrible. The hide and seek meta. We would just specialize in stalling fights till OT and then bait out their ults and i'd ress the team with all our ults, unless we used one to bait out their ults... The worst offender is the first defender spawn on Gebralta. You could hide down there as Mercy and ress the people if they died above you there...

Just use beam characters. In lower ranks, some Mercys tend to struggle against beam character like Zarya with their jump.
All Supports need healing nerf
Ah yes back when Mercy had play of the games
I'm still sick of Mercy 💀
And the worst part is that this is the worst she’s probably ever been😭
Edit: since some of yall are dumb Im referring to mercy right now
Solo shattering a mercy as a rein, no ifs, ands, or buts
Lol I will, the value she gets is way to consistent for the amount of effort u put in. You only have to worry about movement and positioning.
Fair
@@ForbidenXShadow I feel bad for Flats, since he has this dumb of a fanbase😂😂😂 she is the weakest she has ever been(mostly)
As a retired overwatch mercy main this upload is a nice burning memory
Holy shit, I did not need to be called out so hard at 10:50 going from a low masters rein one trick to peaking top 100 in OW2
This was all in the video

Too play from Valkyrie 1.0 to Valkyrie current is crazy to see what it once was. Actually fuckin insane.
Watching the ult charge speed mercy had during her launch mass rez era is insane. I picked her up during that era but you forget how crazy it used to be every fight.

I remember when Mercy's Resurrect was nerfed to be a one time ability. The Mercy players were very loud online.
Mercy mains still are the biggest crybabys in the Overwatch Community
I remember way back when, years before OW2, I hadn't played the game at all, and I remember thinking "wtf why would they change her resurrection from an ultimate into a standard ability? That seems kinda BS. Her replacement ult sounds terrible as well", since even then I knew how iconic her res ultimate was. But now, after having actually played the game with the release of OW2, I realised "actually yeah. This is probably for the best. Also Valk isn't as bad as I thought it would be"
Edit: Also, when I originally started OW2, I remember thinking a few times "Wouldn't it be cool is Valk made resurrection happen faster, or be on a shorter cooldown?" but then I realised "Actually no, that would be kinda busted"
I was part of the Gm playerbase that categorically refused to play Mercy. After a couple of games that season I quit for a few months. It was unbearable
Man I miss OG Mercy, was so funny just watching the entire enemy team use their ults to win the fight and you just pop 1 ult to rez the entire team 😂
Small reminder that currently Ana has an even higher pickrate than Moth Mercy and is deemed "fine" by people. Just wanted to say that.
She is far more fair, the thing is that she’s really fun. Strong, yes, but only if the one playing her has good mechanics, positioning, and game sense. Only thing bs in my opinion is the hitbox
@@OrangutanPeepergood thing every support is getting nerfed
Ana is actually engaging and fun and asks you to aim in a first person shooter, shocker i know

Man it’s been a minute since I’ve seen a muselk or bazza gazza clip. I miss when they played ow together
Mercy was never balanced she had the most anoyying ult in the game then having the most anoyying ability in the game
Mercy was the first player I played.. I remember even in gold and silver at the time everyone would freak out at you if you didn't play Mercy.
Occasionally you can as zen just for using his ultimate 😂. Otherwise not often unless a triple kill etc you are correct.
I remember getting a 4k res without leaving Gibraltar spawn
I remember back when Mercy got reworked. I used to play her occasionally and was the best Mercy in my group so when she was broken I wasn’t able to flex anymore and was basically forced to one trick her. Climbed like 300-400 SR from mid plat to Diamond. As soon as I hit Diamond I quit Mercy for good and refused to play her anymore. Even today I rarely ever play her because of the PTSD
i wish more than anything to go back to the days i played mercy paintball in the living room every night and my mom would say “heroes never die!!” from the kitchen to encourage me
I’m pretty sure there was a week where she was 100% at some point ngl
It would be nice if Flats reacted to Karq's one tip video of release Sigma someday.
I as a Mercy Main really don't want her old ult back. It was scary and not fun. She is fine right now I guess.
Now I understand why everyone targets mercy as soon as a team sees her 😂. I’m new and started playing overwatch when OW 2 came out so I never knew these things lol
I just want her movement back T-T
Right. I just want to fly around like a pretty princess and provide my team with my callouts. I don’t care if they buff her movement but nerf everything else, I don’t care if she becomes a throw pick. I just want her to be fun again😞

real it was so fun. take away the stupid hit crouch to super jump that they added in ow2 and revert her movement to ow1. they said that putting super jump on a meter made her movement too strong and instead of just reverting that they gave her a 3.5 second cooldown.
was that jack screaming? 14:25
Remember mercy hiding out until everyone died and then 5 man rezzing while all you could do is watch?
Losing a whole ass teamfight and jumping into a dva bomb that tried to block the mass ress. Only to time the invulnerability frame of the mass ress to the explosion is soooo gratifying and gave you a high.
I feel like this was a warning about ultimate caliber mechanics being put on a cool down. Now we are dealing with issues far worse.
I wish they would revert the ga changes w the longer cd on jump/crouch ga
Idc what they nerf I just wanna fly
gosh good old times :D wish it came bk on april 1st for 1 day and they say its a new buff :3
Brig 1.0 vs Moth Mercy? Who’s the most overpowered?
Chad Brig never letting anything die in the first place. Virgin mercy letting everything die and come back. Bias against CC so def brig
Og brig was literally crafted to counter the bs that moth mercy enabled lel
I still to this day have a firm belief that mass rez wasnt broken and shouldn't have been removed. Annoying sure but not broken. Honestly it can work in ow2. Heres how I would have changed it to an ultimate.
Change it from area to los.
Reduce the radius of the res to 5 or so meters.
Put a cast time on it. Similar to what she has now on it but slighty faster
Have it that if the los was interuppted at any time the rez on that person would be cancelled.
(A bit dishonest with how often people claim it happened) Plus hide and seek will die due to it not being instant.
everybody used to yell “WHERES THE MERCYYYYYYYYYYY” after every team fight LMFAOOOO🤣
We also have to remember that Mercy used to out heal Winston beam.
She still does
I would love to play a game mode where each character is built like when they were most broken.
Moth meta was the moth hilarious and ridiculous bullshit. The number of times I'd kill THE SAME person 3-4 times in the same team fight was insane.
Back in 2016 I was like: Why can’t mercy fly?
And now she can fly
I actually miss the days when they reworked her after they changed her ult..Omg she was a speeding bullet flying around..Her gun was able to kill a whole team by herself when she popped ult..Instant one person rezz..The good old days
Those were not the good old days 💀
Not the good old days she was disgustingly broken, arguably the most op a hero has ever been
@@samrodway1850what about launch brig?

Mass rez completely went through walls. Mercy players would sit under 2nd and 3rd point in Gibraltar just to rez. "Die on point," was such a common phrase. As much as I personally enjoyed the mass rez, that was garbage.
Edit; Thinking on it, I feel like if they didn't add the invul during rez and made it LOS probably would have been a good balance for mass rez. But valk might have been the better direction.
Its wild to me that dive is now thought of as the "golden age". Everyone hated how stale it was at the time.
Two things missing in the video are
Ayo the Gravity Rush music 0:50
I remember the mercy mafia, getting one of their more hardcore ree's banned from the blizz forums was a badge of honour, especially as they did that shit on NA and EU, refusing to stop spamming until mass rez was returned
Why are your videos auto set to 480p. Or is that just my phone?
I still remember watching a reaper kilo my whole team, following him as he killed the hog, and then rezzing everyone around him as he emoted. Or my suicidal rezzes flying out of spawn in hanamura to bring my team back
as a player that started in overwatch 2, i think ressurect even now is a crazy ability that doesnt make the game feel good. but damn, being able to res ur whole team with an ult is just crazy
legit question, did Flats even play Overwatch back then? Feels like he emerged in 2019
Yeah she could always rez behind walls, half AND full walls, when rez was her ultimate.
Wait how did you get copy right for talking about a res, then also get told WHAT got copyright? YT never tells you.
Tho I wish support players were able to get POTG now for doing support stuff and not getting triple kill...

what's wrong with the clip at 12:15? why does he say "god please stop showing this clip"
THIS right here is why I started playing nothing but Mercy. She was just too good. Now I feel bad for even thinking about it.
This triggered bad flashbacks I didn’t wanna remember
