My motivation is "I can do it now in peace or later getting yelled at because reasons"
There's this old saying "The more you sweat in here, the less you'll bleed out there". I always liked that one.
Saaaame mentality.
I needed to see this today. Thanks!
Hm, now I’m actually quite motivated. Sadly I’m at school so I can’t break down and do push-ups. Will keep that at heart though
@@a-disaster5285 don’t let that mentality stop you. As long as there is a floor to use, you can do push-ups. Stay strong. Stay motivated. Stay blessed 💪🏽🙏🏽 praying for your continued strength babysloth 🙏🏽🙏🏽
I ran a mile today, without stopping. This may not sound like much, but this is a milestone for me, I'm in the best shape I've been in for 8years. It's so great to see what I've been doing has actual results. Certainly not going to stop.
Angel Noose how’s the progress?
Heh... Milestone.
same here man!
Angel Noose congratulations man !! I’m trying to get where you’re at 👏🏽
Keep going
A workout that overall helps me is
50 pushups 50 situps
1/2 mile sprint
40 pushups 40 situps
1/2 mile sprint
30 pushups 30 situps
1/2 mile sprint
20 pushups 20 situps
1/2 mile sprint
10 pushups 10 situps
1/2 mile sprint
Ps: after doing this at full effort I was beyond dead. So have fun.
Kellen Rappaport stupid question but do this everyday? Or every other day
every other day will be bct style
this seems nice and simple, thank you
Sounds harder than the Marine PT I went through. Thanks!
Definitely gonna save this. Thanks for the great workout!
I started working out seriously about a month ago and I've already improved my push ups and sit ups exponentially. The hardest part for a lot of people i think is getting them to actually START.
I totally agree
I can do plenty of pushups and sit-ups but running has never been easy for me. These videos have helped a lot with my training, thanks Matt 🤙🏼
Southern NC outdoors man yes, running is my kryptonite! I look fit af but I can barely run a lap without feeling like I ran 5 miles. I don't get it.
Southern NC outdoors same..
Starting out while I'm younger so I get a good couple years of getting fit.
Agh I can't wait to enlist one day!
• Neptune • I'm training 2 years in advance , how is it going for you?
Same, First time where I'm actually working out. Can't wait till I'm old enough to sign up.
Did you join?
@@redsquirrel1565 They never answer these comments
You have to understand that the Army goal is a fit and lean soldier, this why you won't gain much muscle mass in Basic. You March everywhere. Your access to weight training equipment will be non-existent during Basic. You will be using bodyweight exercises. The New PT Test is geared towards soldiers who have already passed BCT. So odds are, you will do the soon-to-be old test to get a baseline of your Physical Fitness. There are plenty of RUclipsr's who are into Calisthenics who can get you ready for BCT. But, just like Matt said, you are going to have to clean up your diet, and get your mind in the fitness game. The earlier you start, the better off you will be at Basic. Even if you don't join, exercise can help you in life.
A moment of pain is a life time of glory remember that
28 years old and finally planning on joining. ASVAB test on the 13th.
Same here bro
TitusTheTiny howd it go?
@@andytheplatypus it went well surprisingly. Ship out July 29th. Excited as hell.
@@andytheplatypus your fuckin name is great.
@@TitusTheTiny where are you shipping out on the 29th?
Can’t wait for army bootcamp....
DwkVideos same here
Lmao, Donny..... Can't wait to see that video.
Basic Training* 😜
Said no one ever not sarcastically 😁
This is a really solid page!!! I’m going back in and here I am looking at the physical part again so thank you for the tips!!
Thanks for posting this Matt. I've been working out everyday now.
I didn't used to be able to do ANY regular pushups (like literally couldnt do 1) started out doing pushups on my knees and I and now I can do at least 3 or 4 regular pushups!
How long did it take?
Thanks for this video Matt. I am prior-service U.S Army NG and I am re-enlisting AD. I had a 5 year break in service and my recruiter put my packet together but won't submit until I meet H&W standards. This is more motivation. By the way I am 33 years old. Be great if you made a video for older prior-service. Thanks again.
Bump
Great job on this subject Matt.
In Basic, I think we did more `Flutter Kicks' than anything else lol, especially when getting smoked. I know those helped me with my sit-ups a lot. One thing I remember when getting ready to ship out was that I could do crunches very well, but not sit-ups. That is something I'm glad you stressed. It is necessary that you actually do the exercises you will actually be doing in training and your PT tests. Also, when my feet, or ankles, were not held down I couldn't actually do a single sit-up. My ratio of upper to lower body weight was not helping. With more exercises for my abs and hip-flexors though I got to where I could do full sit-ups without support. For those new out there, yes you will have someone holding your feet or ankles for an actual APFT, but during regular PT, or when being smoked "corrective training", you will not have that luxury. So other exercises to help get you to the point of doing another exercise is key. Oh, and in AIT we also did push-ups from our knees after we couldn't do anymore regular reps, then just from the waist up, like that ab stretch where you look to the sky shoulders high. Granted we were doing hundreds of reps, but still muscle failure is muscle failure no matter how many it takes to get there right?
Man, I wish I had these videos before I enlisted.
Started this journey a couple months ago. Couldn’t do a single pull up. 183 pounds at 5’9 just of fat. Down to 169 lost 14 pounds of fat and gained muscle weight! And I can get up to 3 pull-ups now. It’s not a lot but I’m happy with it so far.
You are the best informative motivator for all things I need to know about the United States Army. I am willing to bet you are quite the military Officer, sir.
YESSS, an upload :P
Thank you so much for posting this!
You’re extremely helpful thank you!
Good advice Matt thanks bro would have come in handy when I started since I hurt both my ankles now running 1.6 miles in around 15 minutes
I needed this video Matt thank you! Getting sworn in on the 31st.
12 days!! Countdown! 😎🤙
ps. Another great video man 👍
It's getting close!!! And thanks!
Turning 30 this month and looking at going active duty officer. I do manual labor all day and was shocked how few pushups I can do. This video is a wakeup call and an encouraging message for me. I can get there but I'm gonna have to be on top of it.
Very helpful video Matt... getting shipped next week to fort Jackson
I just found your channel - Thank you! So much valuable information here 👍❤
Thanks man, I got a way to go to lose the weight but starting my journey now . cant wait to join the Army!
In boot camp I killed everything and was top 3 in everything EXCEPT running. I played basketball in high school and ran cross country but still got owned in boot when it came to running long distances. I actually handed the guidon off to the fire team leader (and friend) and that sucked. Embarrassing even.
How often do you run in the army boot camp? every morning?
Erazin Dageho how much would you say you ran and how often?
Thanks for the tips really helpful.
Hey Matt Thank you for this video cause me and my dad just had a serious conversation and he said that if i keep being bad and stuff like that i will have to join military school which i actually kinda do because i want to fix my self thank you so much!
Wall pushups and girl pushups also on a rail really helps you build up strength... great tips
I needed this
Tip on the gym in small towns (5k or less people): Check the community center or high school. They often have weight rooms
I drank water and ate twice a day while doing push ups sit ups and running and lost 281/2 lbs in 2 months. I do 30 push ups twice a day sit ups twice and run twice a day.
Anthony Frost
280 lbs. in 2 months??? That's like 35 pounds a week.
Now far be it from me to call you a liar, but you're a liar. Even if your two meals were bowls of meth, you couldn't possibly lose that much weight that quick.
Lol no 28 in a half
Lol, glad you cleared that up
lol
Haha.
Hey Matt what's up , I'm shipping in soon and I was wondering if you could do a video on the new OPAT
Yes please help. Thanks.
This has helped me alot
It took me a yr and a half to lose even 80 lbs...but I got back in shape and can now run a mile without to much difficulty! I workout daily and still have a strict diet, it sucks but it works!
Damn, your vids are really high quality for how small your channel is
Thanks!
They should do negatives for push ups. Let themselves go down slowlymaybe until they fall and then push themselves up on their knees
Fort Benning on February 12th! MOS is 11x!
I do wall push ups, lean so you're in the same position you'd be on the floor and get to work. I do 10 in one go, they really get you tired which I never really felt with knee push ups
I can do 61pushups in 2 minutes still trying to get as good as I can. I’ve lost a good bit of weight and only have 1 more year till I’m 18. I’m so ready
Did you enlist
I try and run a mile or so and walk that same distance. An easy way to do that is to have a planned out distance and split it evenly. I run to the end of my road which is just over a mile and then walk the way back. Really helps.
How I got better at push=up. I started with the wall push ups
17 and weight 240, i have to love around 60-70 punds for weight requirements i want to join the army to serve and to help me out with college.. your videos keep me going started watching a week ago started walking/jogging with a little running for 2 miles a day. You my motivation .
Want to join when i graduate in june
Any updates?
Hoping to enlist in a few months and a pretty good exercise I started was walking for 9 minutes then running for 1. As you get used to it you can change up the time to 8 minutes of walking then a 2 minute run. As you get more stamina and strength you can just do a minute less of walking then add a minute of running. Eventually you just run for 10+ minutes no problem. (I started off walking for 5 then running for 5 for 20 minutes) I’m getting close to running the full 20 with no problem.
That intro is exactly me😂 I’m shipped off in February and I’m nervous asf
GolfFoxtrotYankee what’s your mos?
I got a 80 on my asvab and am going infantry with airborne I ship to basic on July 22nd but hope to get a rasp slot when I go to basic
Good luck troop!
Thank you
Hey Matt I know I’m very late but, I run in the treadmill for 20 mins every other day. Will this improve my run time?
What if I am good at short sprints but suck any distance longer than a half mile, what should I do to up my endurance
I like to think of squats as a great alternative to running
Question: do all military branches go to basic training together or their trainings are different?
Is there a physical test before basic? Not a physical like MEPS, but like a pre PT test.
Should I stop drinking v8 too
can u go over how to bulk up im really scrawny
I am currently able to run a mile in 8 minutes and 50 seconds, and my 2 mile in roughly 19 minutes.
I feel like I've hit a wall.
I have roughly 5 months before I transfer to University to finish my bachelor's, joining ROTC.
Getting to the standards of the APFT seems impossible.
I'm currently at 47 pushups in a minute,
43 Sit-ups
And the 8:50 mile.
Do you think given my time frame I'll be able to improve enough to excel for ROTC?
Chauncey G
Sounds like you've hit a plateau. Try mixing it up between strength training and endurance training, with a variety workouts.
Muscle memory is great for everything except working out
Is there a difference between the trainings for officer candidate and enlisted personnel?
Hiya im ex military (retired) but do i need to shape up! omg so im totally going to start the revamp my bod process, thanks
I can't do one press up ... can't run to the store that's 7 min away with out stopping and I get pains all over my body 😭 and I want to join the army 😭😭
Some one helppp
Hey Matt! I really enjoy your videos, they have really helped me during my training and recruiting process. I’ll be going into 25B as soon as it’s available for active duty! Keep on with your videos they’re great!👍
Thanks! Also, good job choice :)
What's basic like for prior service, the same? Depends?
Ft leonard February 5th!
a small workout I do like 3 months before joining
50 pull ups
70 push ups
30 shoulders press with dumbbells
30 biceps curves
30 lats pulls
30 bench presses
80 situps
2 miles run
4 days a week
Have fun
Actually it is possible to loose 100 pounds in 3 months cause I did it went from 350 straight out of high school down to 225 doing insanity max 30 and going hard eating right it is possible but it is not healthy to do not would I recommend anyone doing that
I lost weight for Meps I’m 5’10 and was originally 235 pounds. I’m now 187 which means I barely made it for my height and weight. I’m being shipped off at the 22nd but I just passed Meps like 2 weeks ago. Is it even worth it? Thanks for anyone that responds
I'm 5'10 also and weighed around 230 before I decided to join back in 2013. From december I lost 30 lbs before I left for basic in march. At basic I lost an additional 20 lbs taking me to 180. After I got to my active duty unit I went from 180 down to 166 lbs, now after being out of the military for 4 years, I'm 250 lbs and just now getting back into shape starting with the basics again, it's all mind games and everyone is capable. You got this
I was told by a recruiter that if I get down to 185 I should pass tape, I'm 5'7 and 211lbs last time I weighed myself(not wearing boots and didn't have my edc on me earlier today when I weighed myself, in what I go out wearing it's about 217lbs) and I'm starting out with changing my diet, though kicking my caffeine addiction is hard, so I'm starting with eating healthier and working my way up from there
C25K (couch 2 5K) app is good app to use when first starting to run
I was rejected from all forms of military due to asthma heath concerns. Now its my weight. I want to train like the military to get into shape.
I don’t have a ship date yet but let’s say I ship in 3-4 months, how much progress do you think I could make by doing these push ups and running, maybe even going to the gym a couple times a week?? I’m 17 & am in high school so that combined with life, do you think it’s possible I can really improve?
Seeing as Police Academy has a lot of the same physical requirements as Army BCT, these videos are helpful. Also guys, there's an app called home workout that will really help you with pushups.
The Radbassman I wanted to check out the app you were referring to but there’s multiple home workout apps, could you describe the app image in detail please
Brandon Williams it's red with a guy doing a push up.
The Radbassman cool, thanks
Right onn
That the app Im using. Its great all and work out.
Are pull ups mandatory? I have trouble doing them
Thank you, I lost 15 pounds since may
Do you think I can keep a diet in there
So i lift and im very fit, but i heard the army training is super hard so idk
I eat twice a day, four days a week, drink nothing but water and 5-6 coffees (8oz coffee, 2 non-sweetened creamers) on top of mid-day snack (usually protein around 200cal) and lunch which would be the bulk of my caloric intake. I guess my only problem is that I dont move enough, even though I bike 20+ miles for those four days.
Couch to 5k apps are the way to go imo.
For a guy that's 26 and joining, is the opportunity for being an SF out of the picture in the future or would I still be within the age requirement? Cheers man
im 17 and I’m abt 15 pounds over weight (maybe) it’s hard to tell because I’m naturally more bulky and have some muscle from previous exercise and sports... I’m trying to trim off a few and also build up my endurance
Hello Matt, I'm a 450lbs 32yo former powerlifter. I can run/walk a mile in about 11 minutes. I've hit a point in my life where my goals have changed and I want to join the army. Where do I start besides obviously loosing weight? I bench press over my bodyweight and squat and deadlift almost double or better. I'm currently around %38-%41 body fat. I'm on a ketogenic diet and dropping weight rapidly with that. Thanks in advance
The thing is, I really need to make myself get off my ass and at least start running some. There's a JC near me that I can use their track.
Jump rope is actually one of the best ways to help u gain run endurance
Would playing basketball help with endurance and running?
Yes and no. It will help more than other things but just because somebody plays basketball everyday doesn't mean they will pass an APFT. Now if you are training and maybe playing full court and run a lot that also helps but when training for a two mile run you need to run longer distances without stopping.
I already know how to do a push-up. But for people who can't do 5, don't you think they could try Negatives?
20 secs in this and im like...
Same...
Tennis elbow sucks. Got it really bad right now, but went to therapy and wow made a difference just one time. Gives me hope. My shoulder consult went good when I went to meps. I'm actually finally getting close I think to swearing in lol.
AndyRips What was the shoulder consult for? I had one last week due to a plate and screws in my collarbone and the doctor cleared me. Just waiting on the waiver to hopefully be approved.
Dean DeAngelo I had rotator cuff surgery back in the summer of 2014. The consult doctor acted nothing of it. Legit took 2min with him. I have 2 anchors in my shoulder, they act nothing of it so. I would think you would be good also. It’s just a waiting game again.
I'm joining the national guard and the recruiter sed i need to loose 20 pounds and that it will be easy i know i can do this
Even juice?
Is it weird that I feel as if one arm is doing way more work when doing push ups ? My left feels as if it doing everything. Is is because of bad form ?
JRahman14 just be conscience of your form it'll balance out.. Most of the time one side may be a little stronger
I was gonna say, switch off when youre beatin it xD
If I’m 20-25 pounds over weight is running 3-5km a day enough
I was 358.8 Lbs. I have to get to around 250lbs to make tape. Im currently down to 327.3 i plan on joining the Army National Guard by the age of 30 at the latest (im currently 28). Thank you for these tips.
Age limit is 28
What do i do if im trying to gain and put on muscle if I'm too thin?
@@aztec6535 I'm about 5'9, and I think I weight about 130 135, I'm underweight that's what i know. I often eat when hungry, always had...However i am told i have eat over thousand calories or so.
Don’t eat less calories then you spend, it works but you end up feeling tired no matter how fit you are. try carb cycling, it’s much healthier and works better in the longrun
i cant even run for 2 minutes any more i let my self go
July 15 fort sill???
I highly recommend whole milk as well as water.
Hey Matt can I email you I have Meps in 3 days
What is macro? And also I jog in place on cardio day. Is that not equivalent as jogging outside?
Sorry for late reply. It's protein, carbs, and Fats
Just started this week...I’m walking 2 miles & running 2 miles a day in the morning & then 2 in the evening at about 16 minutes everytime I do the runs am I doing too much or am I good ?
