From what I’ve read, wounds needing to ‘breath’ is a myth and it seems almost definitive with the research done that wounds need moisture to heal, which saran wrap does pretty well. I can’t really wrap my head around why saran wrap wouldn’t be an okay choice as a bandage for the first few days. It seems like it would definitely be better than not covering it at all.
You’re definitely right…wounds/tattoos do need moisture to heal. This is why I recommend a good lotion like Lubiderm or cocoa butter, because it gives your tattoo the moisture it needs to heal. The reason why you don’t use Saran Wrap is because it trap all that moisture with your tattoo and now is providing a breeding ground for bacteria, because bacteria also needs moisture to grow. Also, when you cover up your tattoo with Saran Wrap, the moisture is being pulled from your body with dehydrates your skin. With that, it can also pull ink from the tattoo and fade your tattoo.
@@randomherotattoo tell me how SaniDerm does not trap in moisture and germs. Everything that you just said about Saran wrap can also be applied to SaniDerm. Literally the only difference is the adhesive layer on SaniDerm that SEALS the wound
my tattoo artist told me to keep saran wrap on my tattoo for 24 hours and now it appears with a red itchy rash. is this from the overuse of saran wrap?
So I just got part of my tattoo done and it's my 2nd session for it and I got my saniderm on there from my artist then I went to bed when I woke up, some of the build up of the ink and blood and just juice leaked out of the edge of the saniderm and it wont restick what should I do about it
I got my tattoo on a Saturday and applied Saniderm. Kept it on until the following Wednesday (4 days). All oozing was done and tattoo is nice and flush against the skin. No tenderness or itchy and it’s healing nicely and it’s starting to flake as expected. I lap swim so I applied saniderm and got in the pool (day 9). At the end of the hour I noticed the saniderm was halfway off. I cleaned it and lightly applied A&D ointment. Should I be concerned?
No. I think it’ll be fine. Just stop swimming laps till it’s completely healed. Also, stop using A&D ointment. Get some Palmer’s Heals & Softens Cocoa Butter.
Yeah, Saran Wrap is really unnecessary after you get home from the shop. If you need your tattoo covered for sleeping, I recommend Saniderm or a similar “second skin”.
@@randomherotattoo I don't think I can afford it now after the price of the tat....i just use Bephanthen tattoo cream and no wrapping and let it air dry. It's a right wrist tattoo.
I totally understand. I don’t really like or recommend petroleum based after care products. I prefer a non-scented lotion, but if you don’t wanna go buy any of that then apply a very thin layer ONCE a day of that Bepanthen.
You won’t lose ink, but part of what you are doing trapping moisture and creating a potential breeding ground for bacteria. Even if you are changing it every 24 hours, it needs to breathe and be cleaned and lotion applied.
@@Bereal711 one MAYBE two, it’s important to not overdo it. I use and recommend Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Heals & Softens and you only need to apply once, normally.
Saniderm isnt "breathable". Just like saran wrap. The benefit to saniderm or any of the "2nd skin" (to include saran wrap) is that they are an instant but flexible and airtight scab. Saran wrap isnt as good because it doesnt provide an airtight seal as well as second skin, so, is better off as a temporary barrier, like when sleeping as to keep your blanket and self from rubbing on the wound and from drying out. Great looking and fast healing tattoos have been around since before Saniderm, so dont completely knock Saran Wrap. I use both for my tattoos. Both work great for getting through the healing process.
Just got a new tat yesterday, more fluid in different places then others, I was told to leave it on for 3 days, 24 hours have passed cami still just leave it on the next two days without messing with it because I have nothing else I can put on it if I remove it now and I work in a kitchen
i work in a kitchen. just got a tattoo on friday today is sunday go back to work tomorrow
will saniderm help protect it why im at work.
It will
How do I protect my tattoo for work? I work at amazon and I work in the trailers picking up boxes . Does anybody got any steps or advice?
Sorry this response is late, but I do have a video on how to cover up your tattoos for work. Let me know if that helps.

Needs air to finish healing process. Staying moist for too long is not a good thing

take it off clean it up and apply a&d ointment until healed
You shouldn’t use A&D ointment. In my videos I recommend cocoa butter or any fragrance-free lotion.
@@randomherotattooWaaaiiittt ? I've been told by Alot of artist to use A&D or Aquaphor for aftercare if I don't have that derm or second layer skin.

Am using the saran wrap for the first day only like tonight. As I type this, it is 2:47 AM so, it comes off around 7 am.

Can i add Saran Wrap over my saniderm for extra protection?
No. The Saniderm IS the protection…you don’t need more of it.
My tattooist just told me to keep cling film on. Changing and cleaning it every 2/4 hours. My arm is sweating. Will I loose ink out of it

I just use redtop vaseline, the germsafe stuff always worked better for me than anything else
Actually haven’t seen anybody else use it recently. Seems kinda DL :P.

do i take off saniderm everyday to shower? i know you said u can leave it on for a couple days so after those couple days, do i reapply? sorry
No. You leave it on in the shower.
Leaving it on when you shower is one of the benefits!! No need to worry
