Some little things about Taz Skylar (the actor playing Sanji):
He's from Spain, one parents English the other's Lebanese, I think he did the Spanish dubbing for this show as well, he's written an off-West-End play, he learned how to cook for this role and ended up cooking for everyone while on this show, he learned kick-boxing for this show as well.

Little dude brought the intensity. He made me _believe_ that oregano is for savages, if only for that moment. Of course, oregano in a veloute is ridiculous, and oregano isn't really a thing in French cuisine. It was a fun addition for the live action, since Sanji is all about the French cuisine and there's that whole French vs. Italian rivalry in food. Oregano being a mainly southern Italian herb.

The reason why the Zeff-Sanji goodbye feels like a final farewell is kind of already explained in the show (and there's more to it, but that's spoilers).
They both know Luffy is trying to get the One Piece, which means he's going to the Grand Line, a place that's known as the pirates' graveyard and has a bunch of bigger pirates and lots of danger. So, as far as they know, Sanji joining Luffy could really mean this is the last time they see each other.

Remember, the Grand Line is known as the Pirate's Graveyard for a reason. It is a treacherous sea with supernatural weather that makes it nearly impossible to navigate and has powerful pirates not unlike Mihawk. Journeys to the Grand Line (even if you didn't die from the weather, marines, or fellow pirates) took years to come back from for the average person, this is why Sanji tells Zeff goodbye in this instance.
Once he turns his back to him on the Going Merry and reaches the Grand Line, there was no way to know if he'd ever make it back.

Once you enter the Grand Line, you either die in it or get stuck there.
There's methods to get out, but they're really only accessible to the marines or monstrously strong pirates.(certain tech can bypass it as well but that's rare)
I don't think the show is gonna explain it so I'll just say it. The Grand Line is surrounded on both sides with what we call Calm Belts.
These are areas of the sea that has no wind or water current so good luck trying sail through it, you're gonna need machines or a paddle. But the most important thing about the Calm Belts is that because of how calm they are, Sea Kings(Sea Beasts, like the one that ate Shanks' arm) live on it and it's also their breeding grounds.
You normally die trying to cross it either because you get stuck in the middle of nowhere or your ship is sunk and/or you get eaten by Sea Kings.
Because of this, entering the Grand Line for most pirates means not getting out of it for the rest of their lives.

  • @naosou921
    @naosou921 Год назад +28

Not a spoiler, but the reason why going to the Grand Line is so significant is because once you go there, you can't go back until reach a "checkpoint" of sorts that is far, far ahead. Most pirates never even make it there.
That is why the departure is so significant and why going to the Grand Line has so much meaning. So the good bye is so emotional because, statistically, it is very likely that he will never be able to come back.
And to the people who watch/read the anime/manga: Yes, there are details I am skipping, and that is because some of it might be spoiler or isn't relevant at this point. No need to correct me in the comments.

I think there is a simple thing that seperates One Piece from your average Shounen manga, and it's suspense. As you saw here, Luffy doesn't always win his fights, sometimes he loses. You don't have that feeling in every encounter of "He's going to win this", instead it's always "HOW is he going to beat THIS?", it's a subtle distinction but it really keeps you coming back.

Sanji's actor Taz Skylar, the one true gem this season, alongside the whole crew and Buggy, Mihawk. Casting was perfect, as well as all of them.

Idk if it's foreshadowing but I really dont remember Luffy being so down after his defeat. It looks heartbreaking to see as his happiness disappears behind his unsureness.
