The fish skin thing actually is based on recent researches of its capability tô help recover burn injuries and cicatrization, this research was made in a public university in Brazil (VAI BRASIL)
I saw that the fish skin thing is actually done in some places, when I saw someone talk about it they say that in part of Brazil, I forgot why or for what, but it does helps some injures heal and scar better
I've seen people use it to treat burns and help them heal without much scaring I myself have eczema and fish oil has been recommended to me numerous time, refuse to use it cause of the smell xD
yea, it's a real trick. as long as the fish is healthy, fresh, and pulled from clean water.... yup. i think it has something to do with the fish skin being different enough from human that the body doesn't attack it, but it can still be used for skin graphs and stuff like this.
Remember, the Grand Line is known as the Pirate's Graveyard for a reason. It is a treacherous sea with supernatural weather that makes it nearly impossible to navigate and has powerful pirates not unlike Mihawk. Once he turns his back to him on the Going Merry and reaches the Grand Line, there was no way to know if he'd ever make it back.

Once you enter the Grand Line, you either die in it or get stuck there. There's methods to get out, but they're really only accessible to the marines or monstrously strong pirates.(certain tech can bypass it as well but that's rare) I don't think the show is gonna explain it so I'll just say it. The Grand Line is surrounded on both sides with what we call Calm Belts. These are areas of the sea that has no wind or water current so good luck trying sail through it, you're gonna need machines or a paddle. But the most important thing about the Calm Belts is that because of how calm they are, Sea Kings(Sea Beasts, like the one that ate Shanks' arm) live on it and it's also their breeding grounds. You normally die trying to cross it either because you get stuck in the middle of nowhere or your ship is sunk and/or you get eaten by Sea Kings. Because of this, entering the Grand Line for most pirates means not getting out of it for the rest of their lives.
Wait first for the show to reach the part it's supposed to be explained and if it didn't or you feel like they could explain it better THEN write the comment, don't spoiler anything! Not about the crew the plot not about the world nothing!
Not a spoiler, but the reason why going to the Grand Line is so significant is because once you go there, you can't go back until reach a "checkpoint" of sorts that is far, far ahead. Most pirates never even make it there. That is why the departure is so significant and why going to the Grand Line has so much meaning. So the good bye is so emotional because, statistically, it is very likely that he will never be able to come back. The Grand Line in OP world is very dangerous, there's a chance that they will not come back alive, just like Jeff's crews. Goodbye might mean goodbye for good

There actually is some logic to Zeff putting fish skins on Zoro's wounds. The fish skins have a large amount of collagen that will help promote healing. It's usually used more for severe burns than for cuts, but the same idea still applies. Although, from what I've seen about that kind of treatment, tilapia is the most commonly used fish.
Tilapia is a very easy fish to farm in not a lot of space. They probably have very controlled environments to raise them in so they can have "medical-grade" tilapia for the treatment. Just a guess.
