In anime seabeast ate Shanks' arm offscreen so we can assume it was like he wasn't expecting it or he pushed luffy out of Seabeast's way and his arm got eaten. In Live Action he was fully prepared, looking at seabeast and it still ate his arm, which is giant nerf because he should be able to easly defeat that seabeast with his hand.

    So, 4 reasons he didn't take Luffy.
    1. Zoro. He started the fight viewing Zoro as unworthy of even using his sword, a weak and pathetic fighter. Through the fight and Zoro's will to follow his dreams, he gained respect of him. Hence "magnificent".
    2. They don't touch on it as much here, as you don't get internal dialogs. But the fact that Luffy stood by and let the duel take place, without interfering, gained his respect as well as a Captain.
    3. "I do like that hat." I won't say more, but it's a factor.
    4. Luffy's dream. And the fact he had the balls to say it, that directly, and with that much commitment to someone of Mihawk's caliber without hesitation.

    • @danielturner336
      @danielturner336 Год назад +14

      Exactly this. Zoro and Luffy both earned Mihawk's respect, and he also finds them intriguing.
      It's also important to keep in mind that the agreement between the marines and the seven warlords is just a mutually-beneficial accord, not an iron-clad contract. At the end of the day, whether or not they choose to do what the Marines ask is entirely down to the Warlord in question. We all saw what Mihawk did to Don Kreig and his 50-ship fleet earlier in the episode. If Mihawk decides not to follow through on the request of the Marines, there's not much they can actually do about it. The marines can politely *ask* a warlord to do something, but that doesn't mean they're required to do it.

Grow strong and come find me." as being an acknowledgement that although Zoro is too early in his development to pose any threat at all to someone like Mihawk, his determination and unwavering honour means that he is nevertheless a worthy successor. Mihawk is mortally bored, and the idea that there is somebody, *anybody* in the world that could potentially unseat him gives him the biggest boost he's had in years. In my interpretation, Mihawk walks out of this fight happier than he's been in a long, long time.

I assume Mihawk has had to face every young punk with a sword who wants to make a name for themself. Zoro however didn't quit, Mihawk looked into his eyes and saw how much heart and conviction he had. Zoro taking the cut like a man with honor just sealed it. @@atheos.1383 Frog in a well is its own analogy, it's not quite the same and has to do more with thinking that because you've mastered the bottom of a well as a frog that you can rule the world, when you're completely blind to the possibilities of the world because you're stuck in a well, and as soon as you escape the well your perspective becomes massive and you appear small and unprepared. Big fish in a small pond means something completely different, it's sort of a positive affirmation version where your setting is holding you back. If an asian calls you a frog in a well, they're saying you're ignorant to the world.

    Professionally speaking, Garp as a Vice-Admiral is a man of pride, justice, and honor and pirates are their greatest enemy. However, as Luffy's grandpa/family, he's somewhat proud of his grandson kicking his ass at the same time. Crazy family, right? Wait until you meet Luffy's dad and other bros. 😁🤭 Enjoy the OP world "Nakamas"! 🤜🤛

    Glad y'all are still enjoying this. I think they did a great job with this show. Last week's anime episode was amazing and I'm a fan after it took a couple years to catch up. Granted DBZ ain't got shit on the amount of episodes that feel like filler in One Piece, jfc.
    Bridgeco, may never see this, but all I'll say about Luffy's grandpa, V-A Garp, is look not only at what he's doing but how's he going about it.

    Garp is not fired, he is just using his rank to get his grandson without making too much of a ruckus. There are at least two people above him in the Marines who'd kill Luffy without a 2nd thought.

    Mihawk clearly said he wondered why an admiral would make him (a warlord) to hunt down a small package. He didn’t attack him because he felt insulted by him. He was although enthusiastic about Shanks hat on that kid. Thus was curious enough to go see him in person. Onepiece story is just freaking flawless.

    Garps nickname is "The Fist" and yes it`s his singnature move to trow canonballs. He actualy sank a few ships by throwing canonballs. In the anime there is a scene where his ships staff were loading canonballs like in a machine gun for Garp to throw them. So, yup thats Luffys Grandpa.. Garp The Fist. Heroe of The Marines.

    Mihawk let Luffy go because of exactly the reason he stated. And because he doesnt really take the orders the Marines and World Government dish out seriously. Hes too powerful for them to actually do anything about it when he disobeys, though eventually they do try sending tons of ships and marines after him, which results in him easily annhilating their ships and men with no effort. But hes just a total badass. He has no desire to actually harm Luffy as of yet, and even when he does need to attack Luffy later he still doesnt have a deep desire to do so, basically he has an interest in seeing what Luffy can do as a wild card. He trains Zoro for 2 straight years later and Zoro realizes that even after 2 straight years of training and getting exponentially stronger hes still nowhere near Mihawks level. And given what Zoro accomplishes BEFORE training with him, and the knowledge thats hes gotten immensely more powerful afterwards...him saying that is astonishing because it means Mihawk hasnt ever once shown anything remotely close to his full abilities in the entire series. Though i think eventually Zoro will be able to manage to win before One Piece ends...though i cant see it truly happening until Mihawk either gets too old to keep up or maybe he sacrifices a limb to save someone and confers the title over to Zoro as Zoro would be the 2nd strongest at that hypothetical point. As it stands Zoro isnt even a match for Shanks and Shanks could never beat Mihawk even once despite them battling for fun (although for real as in they could have died as they werent holding back, well Shanks wasnt anyway) with each other, until Shanks lost his arm saving Luffy and Mihawk didnt want to play anymore as it wasnt fun.

    There’s so many subtly ingenious things Oda did with how he plotted the story, and not showing how good Mihawk fights before Zoro fights him in the manga made Mihawk crushing him much more shocking since we already saw how superhuman Zoro was leading up to their fight
