I love that we all realistically realize your grandpa doing everything he can to prevent you from becoming a criminal is a good thing, yet we're against it in this case cause it's Luffy.

Sure, but it's also the fact that the Marines are basically the "bad guys" in One Piece. It's not just they're the Police of the world, but they do very little to actually help commonfolk. And examples of corrupt branches like Morgan's, are a dime a dozen.

Usopp - Shipyard worker
All 3 had their own money. Only Luffy had no money and he ordered 1 of everything from the menu.
Little Clarifications:
1. The live action says "Bounty Cancelled" when they showed Mihawk's bounty, but in the anime they actually refer to it as "Frozen". The Warlords' bounties are still there, they're just frozen for the meantime cuz of their positions as the Government's allies.
2. Mihawk's eyes are meant to look like literal hawk's eyes, hence his moniker "Hawkeye". That's why the contacts seem off putting, it's because real hawk's eyes do look like that.
3. Garp is indeed related to Luffy, they have the same surname. Shanks was just an idol to Luffy, not really a father figure... although i can understand if y'all look at their relationship like that.
4. Zoro challenged Mihawk to a deathmatch, which is why he insisted on Mihawk finishing him off even though he was already defeated when his swords broke. He was just honoring their duel.
This is going to be semi-spoiler but mostly fan theory regarding #3 here.
There's actually a chance Shanks is related to Luffy. My friend I told this theory too hates the idea that they could be related, so maybe they won't do it, but in the last OP film it was said that Shanks is a celestial dragon. I saw fanart the other day that implied that Luffy's mom was a celestial dragon. And while this is entirely based on fanart, that COULD be what happened to get Dragon to go on the 3rd path, the one less traveled, and avoid marine or pirate to go revolutionary, if he had true inside information from being in love with a celestial dragon. And then what if Shanks is the brother of this celestial dragon, making Shanks Luffy's uncle. As I've already said, this has some assumptions and leaps involved, however it would explain things like why Shanks kept coming back to Luffy's village, why the most prized devil fruit in all the world was left relatively unguarded near Luffy, and why Shanks stopped coming back as soon as Luffy ate it. Shanks knows far more than we know he knows, and I'm rather certain he knows a good chunk of what Roger found on his journey, and worked to setup Luffy to be joyboy, how much of that being intentional we may find out later. But "why luffy?" doesn't make sense unless Shanks knows a fair bit about the boy, and likely would need to know far more about him than he has two generations of famous relatives, so Luffy being Shanks' nephew would mean that...Shanks is a big part of the architect of this entire plot, and this COULD lead to an interesting clash if Luffy somehow became aware that Shanks tried to force him into being something, since Luffy is all about freedom. Not sure how exactly to orchestrate that with the level of intellect Luffy is usually shown with, but it's possible with Oda. Anyway, thanks for coming to my fanfic talk.

The blade with the white guard was Kuina's. Their teacher said Wado Ichimonji was a rare blade, which is probably why it didn't shatter as easily as Zoro's other blades.

Notice how Ussop can see the Baratie sign before anyone else, hinting that he's got eagle eyes basically. Good shot and vision
I do kinda wish he had managed to load the cannon and make the shot instead of Luffy bouncing it back. Still fumble around a bit, but once he does it, surprisingly land the shot, similar to the shot they make in the anime/manga. We didn't need a gum gum balloon really and would've given Usopp one more moment when he's the most lacking in this season. Even his backstory seemed almost an afterthought when compared to the others', even Zoro's in Usopp's arc.
@@atheos.1383 Yeah, Syrup Island as a whole was a lot better in this arc, at least imo, but Ussop's gotten the short end of the stick. His actor's got the personality down, but Ussop is supposed to be extremely competent despite his insecurities. Really hoping his duel with Daddy is done proper justice in S2, plus there's the scene where he sinks two ships in one shot in the Grand Line.

They all talented actors and I'm glad they're more famous now. I hope this gives them a lot of work opportunities

Seeing Garp in action - playing quarterback w/cannonballs lmao - and Mihawk as well was, considering both their respective titles/feats, a great way to show us a glimpse of what the top tiers of the OP world are capable of.
It was also Mihawk that single-handedly annihilated those 50 ships & 5000 men of the starving dude's crew at the entrance of the Grand Line lol
Better still, that dude is the sole survivor of Don Krieg's crew. (Assuming the live action isn't pulling any fresh new tricks.) So it makes sense that Mihawk was able to get there so quickly.

@@rey8805Not necessarily. Mihawk may have been slaughtering their ships over the course of a week and Gin may have already been drifting before we saw Mihawk killing Krieg and his men. It’s unlikely, since Gin had already assumed he was the last survivor, but still.
More likely, the writers messed up. I doubt Nami would stay there for a whole week doing nothing when she has a deal to close back home.

Heads-up: Luffy and Zoro are amongst the most similar crew members when it comes to mindset. While Luffy is more goofy and light-hearted and Zoro is more serious, in terms of certain values, mindset and personality they are closer to each other than any other crew members.
Something interesting that puts their interaction on the ship in a different light: Oda, the author of One Piece, said that neither Luffy nor Zoro really talk about the past.
So when Zoro asked Luffy if he wanted to talk about it and Luffy said no, Zoro didn't accept it because he didn't care. He accepted it because he understood. Because he knows Luffy is like that and because he is the same.
It's believed that most of the Straw Hat Pirates in general don't dwell too much on their past, but it's been directly stated specifically for Luffy and Zoro. That also means that they are the only two who know the backstories of all the other crewmembers and why/how they joined, because Nami didn't meet them until later in the story in the manga.

I really like how Luffy gets others on his team by being an endearing, sweet goofball. That kid is precious.
I really loved the introduction of the 7 Warlords here and what that entails for the OP world. So there's Mihawk, a pirate, that does the World Government's bidding, but only to a certain extent (as him letting Luffy go showed us). And there's Garp, a Marine, who refuses to get promoted, to quite literally do the same thing, though from within said organization.
I'm glad they brought up that fact, since it was already weird that someone with the moniker "Hero of the Marines", who on top of that captured the Pirate King, was not the Fleet Admiral or at least an Admiral of the Marines.
I think they should've added some lines from the manga in that last fight. Mihawk basically said that the region they're in right now is the weakest of all seas, and that the world is WAY bigger than Zoro thinks it is. There's also (the best part imo) this line from Mihawk where he says "with the raging mettle of your spirit surpass my sword", basically acknowledging that even if Zoro's strength, skill, experience and power overall is a world apart from Mihawk's, his willpower is at least comparable and admirable.
Eh, show dont tell. I think id rather see the crew slowly realise where they are on the food chain rather than have the final boss basically just narrate it
The only line I wish they had kept in for the Live Action is "Frog in the well, know how big the world is."
One of the changes that came from this adaptation that I love is how this episode starts by showing the relationship between Luffy and Garp, so when he sees Zeff coming down on Sanji later on, it's like he's seeing another old man trying to step on someone's dream. So when he's going off on Zeff about how Sanji went against Zeff's orders and fed a hungry man, he's actually snapping back at Garp by proxy, and Zeff's reaction isn't what he expected.
Power levels are really done well in this show. Aside from the bounties, we see Zoro being basically unbeatable so far, and then we have him humbled to show that while he's a big fish in this sea, he's basically a baby compared to some of the monsters out there on the Grand Line

im confused at the amount of people (in different reactions) who are confused on how luffy is related to garp. Thought experiment:
-person 1 is indian (dark skin) and has a child with person 2 who is white (light skin). the child (person 3) is mixed ethnicity and will most likely have lighter skin than person 1 and darker skin than person 2.
-now person 3 has a child with person 4 who is white (light skin again). The child (person 5) is mixed ethnicity again and will likely have lighter skin than person 3 and maybe slightly lighter, or the same, skin tone as person 4.
Barring some rare exceptions, this is how ethnicity works in mixed ethnicity families. Applying it to the garp situation, if you put garp in the position of person 1 and luffy in the position of person 5, its not hard to see how they are related.
I can understand people from a more monoethnic country like japan or south Korea struggling with understanding it but people from America struggling with this concept, considering how diverse a lot of the major cities are, is weird to me. Arent Sam and Dani mixed?

Shanks isn't really a father to Luffy, he just looks up to him. You don't catch Luffy calling Shanks dad at any point because thats not his dad, he calls Garp grandpa because he actually is his grandpa

Taz Skylar (Sanji's actor) trained a lot to know how to fight like that + learned how to cook too (he would cook for the crew). I think Sanji is supposed to be French;the actor is Spanish and British

Luffys Brazil, Nami is Swedish, Ussops African, and Zoro is Japanese. Also English is the language they are all supposed to be speaking, even in the original. Cause that was the Tradertalk language of the Pirate era.
Without giving real spoilers: Garp was in Luffys life before Shanks. When he wasn’t around, he did leave Luffy with people. However, as you saw, Luffy was never good at doing what he was told. That said, Garp and Makino (bartender) do know each other and it’s implied she was making sure he was okay.
As someone that's only watched a few episodes of the anime before watching this live action version the fight between Zoro and Mihawk was so awesome and I actually thought Zoro was gonna beat Mihawk but Nami wasn't lying when she said Mihawk ain't one to fuck with , Zoro lucky he got out that battle with just a slice down the chest Lol

"Hawk-eye" Mihawk is a great character to be introduced to now. He vaguely shows you what this world's pinnacle of power is straight of the bat.
If you see Zoro put the black bandana in his head, it means it's time to get serious. The snail that you see is called "Den Den Mushi", they are a species of telepathic snail that serves as a means of vocal and/or visual communication across the world. The outfit of Den Den Mushi are often customized to signify their owners. Also the bird that you guys see in episode 1 is called "News Coo" they're the one who delivering newspaper worldwide in One Piece.
Sanji in the manga/anime is a mega simp, like heart eyes every time he sees a pretty woman and becomes a doormat. I’m glad they toned it down here to where he just tries to be suave and rejected by every woman.
Mihawk might be the most faithfully adapted after Sanji. And getting someone who sounds like Tom Ellis really works for him lol. Gotta call him Hunk-Eye Mihawt from now own

The whole point of Garp, a vice admiral, being interested in chsding a straw hat pirate and training Koby, is because he knows it is Luffy.
If you rewatch the earlier Garp scenes knowing the Luffy connection, it gives his actions more context
Sadly in the Manga/Anime Garp didn't really want to chase down Luffy. After the Enies Lobby Arc Garp shows up mostly just to smack Luffy in the head for causing Garp a Headache and also to show off Koby after his training to Luffy. Garp only ever chased down Luffy once and it's because the Admiralty found out Garp let Luffy go so Garp had to turn around and Chase Luffy, which lasted all of a few hours lol

Just for a little clarifacation, garp acted the way he did because him accepting luffy as a pirate would be the same thing as the chief of police allowing his child to take up a life of crime. His reaction was actually not as harsh as it would be in the real world

The Don Krieg part was different but the Mihawk vs Zoro fight, which is the important part of the story, this is very perfectly adapted

Fun fact: The actor of Sanji actually took lessons as a chef for this, he didn't just rehearse the scenes with food. He actually improved his cooking skills.
I think it's amazing and really smart to do it this way, particularly with possibly multiple more seasons to be adapted (S2 confirmed, but not yet more than that)
I heard he cooked for the whole cast as well.
He found him so fast because he was close by. The man that sanji feed when he came stumbling in is named Gin and he was that last one left from the ship (Don Krieg pirates) that Mihawk split in half.
The duel between Zoro and Mihawk was very very well choreograph. I am a sucker for well crafted fight choreography, especially with swords involved. I believe Zoro will achieve his goal one day.

Mihawk doesn't have a devil fruit, or at least nothing he has done thus far was due to a devil fruit power. Everything shown here was pure skill with the sword. He is literally the greatest swordsman in the world, and in order for that to matter in a world that has people with literal superpowers granted by magical fruit, it only makes sense that the hogher eschelons of fighting skill and techniques can also accomplish fantastical things.
Note: Don Krieg was originally the next opponent of Luffy in this Baratie's arc but they changed the script due to the changes of plan from 10 episodes to 8.

they dialed down the violence and blood spill quite significantly compared to the manga. both the small knife wound and the initial strike with Yoru got Zoro hurt pretty badly to the point where he was barely standing.
The interesting part about the Baratie is the paintings on the walls. They all depict different Islands throughout the seas of the One Piece World.

Mihawk in the anime looks EXACTLY like the live action version. Pretty much all the characters except Usop look very much like their anime counterparts (Usop in the anime is much uglier. With a very long nose).
The guy playing Mihawk is also very closely emulating the English voice actor from the anime as well. He's definitely watched the show. Fans of the manga and anime are giving him a lot of praise for his performance. Which is great because this is the actor's first really big role.
If Mihawk had wanted to, he could have sliced Zorro, the dock, the restaurant, and half the surrounding sea in half. He wasn't even trying with that last slash.

It's gotta be hard - you are Garp, the hero of the marine, the one who captured the greatest pirate to even roam the seas.
You've been training your Grandson from little, hoping that he would someday follow, but instead he decides to become a pirate and risk his life.
He's part of the very enemy of the organisation you are one of the most prominent faces off, and openly turning a blind eye would have severe consequences.
So he went after Luffy, absolutely intending to stop him without any casualties and maybe make him stop before he starts to become recognised as a pirate, before he gets a bounty. Luffy managed to avoid this, and as much as it goes against Garp's plan, he can't help but feel pride seeing how far his grandson has come, that he has the strength to defy him.
I have deep feeling I'm going to like this Sanji fella. Love the accent and his suits are sharp. He reminds of of Lee Chaolan from Tekken.

That starving pirate was apart of the don Krieg pirates and he said he was sailing for a week to get to the baratie after Mihawk destroyed his whole crew so Mihawk took a week to get there too
The guy that burst in saying that he was starving is named Gin. On here, he is the last survivor of Don Krieg's crew (the ones we saw getting destroyed by Mihawk while he was talking to Garp). In the manga and anime, Don Krieg and some of his crew survived and Gin was just the first to reach Baratie. Don Krieg was actually the main villain of the Baratie Arc in the anime and manga.
The blond Marine, Axe-Hand Morgan's son, is named Helmeppo.

Garp's job as a famous Vice Admiral keeps him so busy that he has to leave Luffy behind on Windmill Village, only checking in on him every once and a while.
He loves his grandson but the job is basically impossible to have any down time on.

Garp is absolutely related to Luffy, but the differences in ethnicity isnt really a thing in the manga, so thats probably why it seems weird here. We will have to see what ethnicity they make Luffy's dad.

Oh Garp knows Luffy is who is was chasing down... he clewed in at the end of episode 1 when the base recorded their map stolen by "pirate in a straw hat" then he REALLY knew it was his grandson when Coby tells him the name was "Luffy".
the guy sanji fed was part of don krieg’s crew (the people mihawk was fighting). the 50 ships and 5000 men were all defeated by Mihawk.
I want to explain the garp luffy thing, but I believe they will probably explain it in Live Action, so I would rather not spoil it.😭

Mihawk looks the same in the anime. His eyes always stand out a LOT. XD
I love how Zoro and Mihawk's mutual respect build. Mihawk is at first talking shit and not taking him seriously. Then when he stabs him and Zoro just looks him in the eyes, you can see Mihawk getting stunned by that. His "why don't you retreat?" is kind of a tell. Shit got real, normally this is where someone would back out. Zoro keeps going. Mihawk can see the conviction and determination. Letting him take the cut and live was a huge respect. Zoro can give him a worthy fight one day if his dream is one worth having.
I can imagine Mihawk going to the barber to maintain his perfectly manicured sideburns and beard. Lol
Demon was how Zoro was known when he was a Pirate Hunter. Remember what Cabaji told about the time Zoro pursued him and his brother.

The eye thing about Mihawk is it's like a hawk, a reference to his nickname which is Hawkeye Mihawk in the anime and they did it here to stay true to the anime

yet East Blue is known as the weakest ocean in term of how strong people living there are.
Mihawk then call Zoro "frog in a well" for over estimate his power.

Mihawk isn't insulting zoro, he is just speaking the truth. Mihawk is literally the best swordsman in the world and zoro is nowhere near that level or even halfway there.
