One thing to note about this series is that regular humans can have or train for superhuman strength and abilities. Not everyone with powers will be a devil fruit eater and if they are, the show will tell you.
yeah it really annoys me when other reactor see strong people, they thought it because devil fruit. Mihawk, shanks even the pirate king dont eat the devil fruit and still strong as hell.
@@bluedragon6310it is annoying but they don’t know. It’s hard for new fans to really understand the “rules” of the One Piece world because they don’t get the full experience and backstory.
@@christinawalls6606 and what more annoying the live action pace is too fast and they cut too many small detail and thats why the new people hard to understand the story. Honestly i really afraid for season 2. i hope they dont make the story too different from anime cause that will be suck.
@@bluedragon6310 they did keep it generally close to the manga from what I remember. They have to leave some things out. I think they did pretty well but there will be things that don’t translate as well. For as big of a task as it was, they didnt do too bad.

Now im afraid how they gonna change it. And i hope chopper is not just a little kid with reindeer.
Just to note, usually if the narrative or the characters don’t say “I ate the ______ fruit!” within a short time of seeing their powers, then they usually aren’t a devil fruit user. One of the cool things about OP is that there are multiple power systems, and devil fruit is only one among many. This is less ambiguous in the manga and anime because you see people use powers who can also swim; for example, in those, Shanks is fully submerged in the water when he scares off the sea monster. I feel like this is a minor weakness of the live action adaptation having to skip over some exposition, because enough people have made this mistake that it has to be attributed to the narrative just not making it clear enough. But as a decades-long fan, I love the theorizing from folks who are totally new to the series! 😊

@pavelestrada7988 I used the name Hawk Eye specifically because its not used in this adaptation and I did not say what it was he does....so only true fans of the anime will know what I mean...anyone who has notwatched it has no clue what Im talking about....so how is that a spoiler exactly...lol...and just to be clear this show has been out for quite a while now if people still haven't seen it they shouldn't be reading comme ts anyway...comments are for discussions and thats what we are doing here...no one gave anything away...I chose my words carefully...

The live action version is ambiguous about Shanks power on purpose. All we know so far is that devil fruits exist and eating one prevents you from swimming. Not seeing Shanks in the water purposely leaves it open to speculation. I can only assume most assume he has some sort of beast controlling devil power after what we see in the live action.
17:26 No, his powers work just fine. If they didn’t, his stomach would burst from having a scrolled map in it. The sea water doesn’t take his powers away. Pay closer attention to Buggy’s choice of words. He said his powers are *rendered useless,* not taken away. And when Makino explained devil fruits, she said it takes away his strength. Neither of them said anything about powers being taken away or suppressed. Sea water just drains the stamina of people with devil fruit powers. In the anime, there was a part where Luffy was trapped underwater(because his feet were stuck in some concrete and he was thrown in the water) but other people kept him alive by stretching his neck so his head was above the water(it was in a relatively shallow area). So his powers still work in sea water, he just loses his strength because it drains his stamina.
Buggy isn't immune to blunt trauma, but being able to fall apart makes it much easier to roll with the punches.

In the show it seems he is. But maybe you're right and he just has better reaction time than in the manga/anime.
They made him capable of making his feet float which he can't do in the original story.

actually rubber makes him quite immune to poison. At least more than a normal person.

This show was my first time watching an Anime and honestly i might start watching some others cuz of this one!
Anime is a rabbit hole worth diving into. My suggestion if you want to dip your toes to into it try watching some of the shorter 12ep. series for horror I'd go with Highschool Of The Dead, or The Promised Neverland.
I recommend demon slayer....it's violent.

Devil Fruits aren’t the only source of power. So when you see someone do some superhuman feat, unless blatantly said, it’s best not to assume a devil fruit is the cause.
I really enjoyed the way they adapted both the story and the characters. Buggy is much more menacing and serious in this show with a hint of sillyness but buggy in the anime was more comical and comic relief at the start. This has arguably been one of my favorite adaptations. And I have been waiting on your reaction! You both really brighten my day with your humor and insight.
I love you reactions, its fun to see a different perspective from an outside of the community, im a big fan of the original one piece, i hope you can enjoy it, i need this daily!

This show is pretty good, though it doesn't do a great job about explaining certain aspects of the world. Yes, all Devil Fruit eaters lose the ability to swim in the water, it's like they'll just sink to the bottom in any body of water. (Lakes, Rivers, Oceans, big tubs, etc)
Also, "Fruit Ninja" was really good.

Two scenes that I like the most from this episode are the Shanks's sea beast scene, and the mini Buggy scene. Mini Buggy is so funny! 🤣

Regarding the scope of the One Piece story: the live action adaptation covers approx. 60 episodes from the anime. At the point of writing, there are 1072 episodes out and the ending is still not in sight. So if they end up making more LA seasons, they have more than enough material^^

The side characters are just so damn good haha and there's plenty to come. The actor playing Luffy is outstanding though, he's the glue that holds everything together. So refreshing to watch a show that doesn't take itself seriously at all and just goes for it.

Shanks did indeed use a special power to chase away the Lord of the Coast (the sea monster), but what that power was isn't revealed for quite a while (about 300 or so chapters in the manga).

Buggy presenting "serve the man who will become the king of the pirates" as something very desirable is pretty damn heartbreaking considering what we now know about him very recently in the manga about his relationship with Shanks
ohhhh isn't that true...as someone who knows exactly what you're on about damn it really hits hard...maybe that's why they didn't give that back story in this episode...Oda has something bigger to shock the audience with later on, good comment Bro.

What Shanks did is a sort of power not a devil fruit, it's called Haki and he used the Conqueror's Haki to scare off the monster.
The Grand line is not the equator, the grandline goes diagonally across the planet.

Shanks used a different power named Haki which is which is a trained or innate ability that cannot be gained by devil fruits.

Buggy in the anime an manga is actually alot more fun loving I guess is what you would call it, he is alot more scary and threatening in the Netflix adaption.
The sea beast He ripped Shanks' arm off in the attack on the boat, and Shanks didn't eat a devil fruit, nor did everyone with a special ability eat one.

Actually what shanks did to the sea beast was just pure intimidation of killing intent. Like how you see a guy and even if hes shorter than you you Instictually know he could beat up 5 guys? That's Shanks, and an even absurdly high level
I loved this series but i tried to watch the anime show and i just cant get into it. So im glad they made a live action so i can still get the story. And if im confused about something i usually just google it and im like oh okay thats cool and then its a lot easier to understand
