    Sends chills up my spine. Astoundingly beautiful. The best jazz musicians on the planet. Pushes wynton to play like never before. I love seeing the sax section smiling in appreciation as they witness this american treasure and master!! Thank you Wayne for all the years of beautiful music!!!

    The saxophone soli at 9:58 is Branford Marsalis’ solo on Yes or No at the Newport Jazz Festival in 1987. You can check out Marsalis playing this tune on RUclips.

      Great catch! Thanks for pointing out. I was fortunate to be at both the JALC and Branford's Newport performances and they were both great.

    Great performance!

    Whoever disliked this does not understand great jazz, and especially does not understand the art of improvisation, which the soloists here have mastered.. This is a group of good musicians.

    Love it! When an entire ensemble of incredibly talented MUSICIANS stand as you walk on to the stage, that's credibility. To today's turn-table spinning, spittin' and 'rhyming'-in-the-mic 'artists' and 'geniuses' --with their over-saturated and shamelessly, over machine, engineered and sampled 'music'---THIS is REAL MUSICIANSHIP!!

    The name of the song is actually Yes AND No, it's got a Yes section in major AND a No section in minor. That was Wayne's own words.

    • @elrondsch
      @elrondsch 5 лет назад +8

      Then why is it called "Yes or no" on the album and he doesnt object calling it "Yes or no" here? I think his words were meant to explain the back story but not change the name of the piece.

    One of my favorite compositions by the great Wayne Shorter! The solo "thumbs down" person must have slipped into a dreamlike coma and thought that he was at a Kanye West concert, (which would certainly justify the thumbs down). Otherwise, I can't imagine why?

    Why does it sound to me like the runs starting on 3:50 and continuing into 4:20 like the notes are mostly tongued? Is it just the combination of strong steady air flow and fast fingers that make the attack sound so distinct with each note? He's not actually doing much with the tongue is he? Or maybe he is interleaving tongued articulations sporadically into the runs (not every note obviously)? It sounds awesome

    Not going to lie; I don't really like Wayne Shorter's soloing, but I thought the composition was just magical when I first heard it off of the Juju album- and Victor Goines' arranging captures the essence of the piece so beautifully. Nicely done.

      Hello , it's not important if you like it. This is Wayne fitting in a concept of nostalgic music scene around Mr.Marsallis. Let's say , museum. People like it , pay a ticket and the musicians have a job. That's the popular bandwagon. If you expect something , then it's a mind over matter thing. Popularity is a bitch. Sorry to say.
