This is the real soul of African American indigenous music. The brothers laying it down RIGHT
There will NEVER be another Kenny Kirkland! Man, I miss him!
KENNY!!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏😭😭😭😭😭❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Branford was in his Wayne mode at that time. I noticed then and followed him ever since. What a monster for decades.
Damn! Kenny Kirkland playin like a man possessed, the wealth of ideas is insane and it seems like never runs out! My Hero! R.I.P and thanks for the memories!
Kenny Kirkland was a genius plain and simple. RIP
I love Joey, but Kenny was next level!!!
Kenny is such a GOAT!!! Every KK solo sounds astonishing. The man combined great passion with crazy musical knowledge. The man, Kenny Kirkland!!!
crazy how jalc turned branfords opening lines into a sax soli
Haha I noticed that too
I heard it and went WOAH
I don't understand this comment because that is the original melody from the 1964 recording.
@@davisc1926 he is talking about the opening lines of Branford’s solo being used for the sax soli for the JALC live album with Wayne
you know it's intense when the tempo is faster at the end of the video compared to the beginning :o
Branford always the most impressive of the Marsalises
A great video from back in the day when jazz music was performed at "jazz festivals" 😉
Yeah like today when we only get to hear it in clubs AND festivals. Best of both worlds SUCKS
This is the best comment ever!
Totally agree. Was just talking about it the other day (with other jazz musicians). We were thinking of starting a petition, ha ha... "Drop Jazz from the name or make sure you have at least 51% jazz/creative non-commercial music in the program..."
Pipe dream...
God bless Kenny Kirckland, r.i.p.
n KK best Jazz pianist ever...RIP bro
One of the best in a very short window of time. Would love to have seen how he evolved as an artist.
Extraordinaire performance by top notch
musicians.
swinging in shorts.
hip hop generation at its best
shades of Le Buckshot le Fongue
The "Yes-Not-No" Organic Real Jazz warriors of virtuosic brilliance; n'est pas?😠
Like to be in the audience to witness friendly saxophonic fire between Branford and Ravi [Coltrane]
Thanks for posting!
First jazz album I purchased was Random Abstract. Classic.
Incredible! I bought that CD (Random Abstract) soon as I first heard this piece by them. Still listening to it!
2:52 is from shorter's solo!
Kenny Kirkland... gone too soon
Just so damn good
Nigga on the keys looks like timbaland
Branford's embouchure scares tf outta me
I always think its gonna squeak
Hey does anyone know if there's a specific way that Branfords plays the super fast lick at 1:39? I'm trying to transcribe his solo but this part has really challenged me. It seems almost impossible to play it that fast and I was wondering whether he is playing exactly how I thought he was or in some other way.
i think its more wall of sound than exact notes played in time, i wouldn't try to replicate it perfectly but as long as you understand what hes going for
You mean you are simply a copycat otherwise known as a culture vulture
🍁🥀🎶❣️
play da shhh bro
This was the A team
Burni'n Branford! Double lip embouchure like me :) but could use some lessons from him !
와 진짜 개 쩐다...
This was back in the early days before Branford learned how to construct musical solos. It's all pyrotechnic.
this is one of the worst comments i have ever read on this site
Waldo W you a fool for that.
Just bc the tempo’s cookin doesn’t mean it’s tasteful af
Waldo W: let's hear and see you construct a better one then.
this tune is called yes OR no. not yes and no
+Fcarpo actually, Wayne himself has said that he meant to call it yes AND no in concern several times
No, It's specifically called Yes AND No. I've heard Wayne explain it in person; also read the liner notes to the original recording on JuJu (there's a "Yes" section (the major A's) and a "No" section (the minor bridge).
Yes And No in the Real Book
It’s yes and no, like the figure of speech
