THIS MUSIC IS OTHERWORDLY Pat is just so swinging on this tune it's insane. Kyle releasing the tension with his crazy chops, and the bass player matcing him in rhythm....SHEESH and Emmet playing out stuff!!! but it sounds amazing!!!!! Jazz is not dead WE ARE OUT HERE.
Also: Sonny Stitt Sonny Rollins Wayne Shorter( his tune) Bob Berg Stan Getz John Coltrane Eric Dolphy Jackie McLean Dexter Gordon Coleman Hawkins Jimmy Heath And so many others...
The passion in this piece is just next level from everyone, all on the same page. Love the muffled piano rhythms Emmet plays towards the end, such creative ideas!
This possesses a similar energy to Coltrane, Elvin, Jimmy, and McCoy's group back in the 60s. It's absolutely fiery. Inspiring stuff. Time to practice.
This was an extremely well preformed and played songs Igor chills many times and cohen and Bartley are some of the best players of their respective instruments today
Of the three days of performances, this quartet only materialized on one day. Patrick was not there when I went...! If I had been able to experience this quartet's performance, I would have been enthusiastic as a Japanese. Really frustrating! Of course, emmet's trio performance was wonderful.
@@Naryrock YES to your comment. I’m with you. NO to me, who always miss the special ones😢 Someday we’ll have a special something. Good luck 🤞 (In fact, I did get a chance to see @josejamesmusic and @cateen8810 at BBL after EMMET’s. It was fantastic. Yet again I missed @takutrumpet ‘s surprise joint session - he played with the duo at the another set. Here I go again😢
@@Moisha695 he jazz scene in Japan has been strong for decades, with an extremely knowledgeable fan base (nurtured by the jazz cafe [jジャズ喫茶」culture) . It was thanks in part to the popularity in Japan of Sonny Clark's music that he became more widely appreciated (see the new Mosaic set on Sonny Clark for that). The jazz audiences in my experience are generally older, so I'm frankly more surprised (and very happy) to see young people attend these days. I saw Emmet the day after this performance, and Patrick Bartley was not there, but it was an amazing set indeed.
I don't usually comment but I have been following the lives at Emmet's place for quite a while. I just watched the movie "Blue Giant" a few days ago, and discovering this video recorded at Blue Note featuring musicians that developed their craft together and featuring Patrick Bartley and his known interest for anime resonates in me in a very special way. Thank you for making the jazz scene feel so alive and sharing your music with everyone ! I can barely imagine how much work you've been through in order to get there. You've inspired me to actually start the double bass a year and a half ago and it's the best decision I ever made. I've been connecting with musicians in Paris in jams. I hope to meet one somewhere in Paris one day maybe !
Joining this live as a audience was one of my biggest music experience in my life. Hope I can listen your great music in Tokyo again!! Thank you so much for upload this masterpiece.
November 28, 2023. Patrick joined the trio only for this 1 day of the 3 day engagement. I have a feeling this was the early set because I can't spot the back of my head in the audience (they definitely played this tune at the later set where I had a front row seat right behind Emmet - wow!!).
Not now babe, new Patrick Bartley and Emmet Cohen video just dropped
AI has nothing on us
Yet
Love how engaged the audience was. You know some of those folks were listening to Coltrane back in the day too.

Jazz has never been dead. In fact I think it has only ever just gotten more and more popular.
Yeah, in this century it is getting more attention than ever before@@ac3raven
Blows alto but thinks Tenor…swinging!
The Alto John Coltrane 🎹🎹🎼🎼🎷🎷
Most original sax player I’ve heard in many years. 👍 Patrick Bartley
He’s like if kenny g and sasakure uk had a funky baby 🤣
I hope we get the rest of this set! The energy was unmatched!!

Damn Patrick. Those are some of the highest notes I've ever heard come out of an alto. Nice solo.
日本に来てくれてありがとう!!
あなた達の演奏は最高だ!!
素晴らしかったですね。私は次の日の演奏みたが、パットリクバートリーがいなかったが、エメットの演奏は最高でした。
Not only traditional methods but also his unique performance😊
Strength, passion, imagination... fantastic!
I love how every band member went nuts at one point or another
Ah, friendship in music, what a beautiful thing.
Please put this on Spotify this is the greatest thing my ears have ever experienced
Hi Emmet, every time that your awesome trio features Patrick, there is such a great energy and creativity. You all took us on an incredible trip!!
I approve of this message.😊
This possesses a similar energy to Coltrane, Elvin, Jimmy, and McCoy's group back in the 60s. It's absolutely fiery. Inspiring stuff. Time to practice.
Exactly my friend 👍
Love that Emmett knows and lays out for awhile when PB hits another place
Love seeing such an attentive audience
Incredible performance! Wayne would be proud!

He is the best !!!!
Thank you for sharing this awesome tour with a young jazzer like me. This helps me a lot!
The japanese culture is unreal, what a quiet and respectful audience, only listening with total attention and silence.
And I'm surprised to see a lot of old people there

I’m a simple man, I see Patrick Bartley - I click
AHHHHHHH!!! Want to practice and then run a marathon after hearing this! Bravoooooooooo!
Emmets solo was stellar!
I hope we get to see more from this concert :)
I just know Wayne would've loved this. 💗
Wayne died a year ago as of earlier this month. RIP Wayne, your spirit lives on in the musicians of today
I was hoping quietly only millennials would be here so I could shed an old man tear for Wayne. Should have known the cats would be here.
Keep up with the hard work !!!

"Can you dig it ?I knew you could!" 🎼🥁🕊
never heard kyle get down like that. Very Elvin-ish.
A prodigious performance by all. Thank you so much for sharing this!
On fire in Tokyo!
songs changes are so fun and impactful!!
I knew pressing pause wouldn't be an option once it started. Amazing quartet, and amazing crowd, very receptive.
The best 15 minutes spent of the day 🚀👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
like Pullen/Adams, those two cats play so well together... whole band is smoking
Of course you had to come to Japan when I was away 💔😭
Joining this live as a audience was one of my biggest music experience in my life.
Hope I can listen your great music in Tokyo again!!
