THIS MUSIC IS OTHERWORDLY Pat is just so swinging on this tune it's insane. Kyle releasing the tension with his crazy chops, and the bass player matcing him in rhythm....SHEESH and Emmet playing out stuff!!! but it sounds amazing!!!!! Jazz is not dead WE ARE OUT HERE.
The passion in this piece is just next level from everyone, all on the same page. Love the muffled piano rhythms Emmet plays towards the end, such creative ideas!
This possesses a similar energy to Coltrane, Elvin, Jimmy, and McCoy's group back in the 60s. It's absolutely fiery. Inspiring stuff. Time to practice.
I don't usually comment but I have been following the lives at Emmet's place for quite a while. I just watched the movie "Blue Giant" a few days ago, and discovering this video recorded at Blue Note featuring musicians that developed their craft together and featuring Patrick Bartley and his known interest for anime resonates in me in a very special way. Thank you for making the jazz scene feel so alive and sharing your music with everyone ! I can barely imagine how much work you've been through in order to get there. You've inspired me to actually start the double bass a year and a half ago and it's the best decision I ever made. I've been connecting with musicians in Paris in jams. I hope to meet one somewhere in Paris one day maybe !
Also: Sonny Stitt Sonny Rollins Wayne Shorter( his tune) Bob Berg Stan Getz John Coltrane Eric Dolphy Jackie McLean Dexter Gordon Coleman Hawkins Jimmy Heath And so many others...
Are you kidding. That's too much praise too soon. There are many alto players from times long gone by that shine even brighter. Stop it. I know because I saw and lived amongst them for many years.Probably way before you were born.
@@Lee-m8f7m No!!! Are you kidding. He plays magnificently. By the way, I was Dave Brubeck's saxophone player in the early 80's. And, Pat Martino's saxophonist in the early 2000's. I'm old enough to know those older cats. And, I'm old enough to have shaken hands with Coltrane at Pep's in Philly. I was a kid then and he granted me a hand shake. I didn't want to EVER wash that hand!! I cherished that hand shake forever.
@michaelpedicinjr I dont care whose sax player you were. I have been personal friends of many sax players especially Jackie McClean Shahib Shihab, Sonny Fortune,Sonny Stitt Yousef Lateef and a stack of others. He's getting too much praise too early. He will be great however he ain't there yet. He's got the spirit of his ancestors to draw from and pure passion. I love him however too much praise can stagnate and it is African American tradition not to heap praise on any human being too soon. Stick to your opinion however I am sticking with African American traditions that he himself can draw from so that his ego remains humble like all the great African American predecessors. I am praying for all the best for him. But he ain't there yet. He's got dues to pay in a natural way. Like my friend Sulieman Saud (McCoy Tyner) used to say. " It takes more time than you can imagine to get to the top of the"mountain". I am taking his wisdom over yours fella.

Joining this live as a audience was one of my biggest music experience in my life. Hope I can listen your great music in Tokyo again!! Thank you so much for upload this masterpiece.
Of the three days of performances, this quartet only materialized on one day. Patrick was not there when I went...! If I had been able to experience this quartet's performance, I would have been enthusiastic as a Japanese. Really frustrating! Of course, emmet's trio performance was wonderful.

@@Moisha695 he jazz scene in Japan has been strong for decades, with an extremely knowledgeable fan base (nurtured by the jazz cafe [jジャズ喫茶」culture) . It was thanks in part to the popularity in Japan of Sonny Clark's music that he became more widely appreciated (see the new Mosaic set on Sonny Clark for that). The jazz audiences in my experience are generally older, so I'm frankly more surprised (and very happy) to see young people attend these days. I saw Emmet the day after this performance, and Patrick Bartley was not there, but it was an amazing set indeed.
This was an extremely well preformed and played songs Igor chills many times and cohen and Bartley are some of the best players of their respective instruments today
November 28, 2023. Patrick joined the trio only for this 1 day of the 3 day engagement. I have a feeling this was the early set because I can't spot the back of my head in the audience (they definitely played this tune at the later set where I had a front row seat right behind Emmet - wow!!).
Not now babe, new Patrick Bartley and Emmet Cohen video just dropped
Most original sax player I’ve heard in many years. 👍 Patrick Bartley
He’s like if kenny g and sasakure uk had a funky baby 🤣
Should listen to Ben Wendel or Emmanuel Wilkins

Jazz has never been dead. In fact I think it has only ever just gotten more and more popular.
Yeah, in this century it is getting more attention than ever before@@ac3raven
Blows alto but thinks Tenor…swinging!
The Alto John Coltrane 🎹🎹🎼🎼🎷🎷
Love how engaged the audience was. You know some of those folks were listening to Coltrane back in the day too.
I hope we get the rest of this set! The energy was unmatched!!
same!
omg please

日本に来てくれてありがとう!!
あなた達の演奏は最高だ!!
素晴らしかったですね。私は次の日の演奏みたが、パットリクバートリーがいなかったが、エメットの演奏は最高でした。
Love that Emmett knows and lays out for awhile when PB hits another place
Damn Patrick. Those are some of the highest notes I've ever heard come out of an alto. Nice solo.

Exactly my friend 👍
Strength, passion, imagination... fantastic!
Not only traditional methods but also his unique performance😊
12:00 brother do your thing!! 👏👏👏

Ah, friendship in music, what a beautiful thing.
This might be the best version of this song I have ever heard. This is top tier.
