Emmets chops and feel are second to none right now. Extremely underrated . We don’t have to wait until a guys old and grey to call him one of the greats. He can easily be one of them if he isn’t already.
EMMETT IS THE FINEST JAZZ PIANIST PLAYING TODAY. OVER THE LAST DECADES WE’VE HAD THE GREATS AND EACH WAS TALENTED IN A PERSONAL STYLE. EMMITT HAS HIS BUT HAS LEARNED AND INVENTED CHORDS AND PLAYS SOLOS IN A COMBINATION THAT SWINGS AND CHALLENGES THE LISTENER. BRAVO!
There are lots of fine jazz pianists playing today! I think Emmet is like the Oscar Peterson of the scene today - at the intersection of many styles, a synthesis of many sounds, but bringing his own flare to it that is undeniably fun and easy to listen to.
He’s really great, but Sullivan Fortner, Jason Moran, Brad Mehldau and countless others are improvising at this level and I would say with a more distinct character. No need to pick a single player as ‘the finest’.
Hey Emmet, so love this -it's going on my next recording thanks to you pulling out this chestnut. Your version is phenomenal .The beginning ballad section is gorgeous, then WHAM !
Tyvon penicot is really a thing, an amazing saxophone player. Brinnging his owwn World to his saxophone and bringing so much to music and creativity in itself 😊. And, futrhermore, he is so fun in his playing sometimes haha.
Man you should check them live. They are a trap band , but after this the show has changed a lot starting with this format, but then in the middle they bring all the trap roots and wow. They are amazing
I really like Jeremy Pelts playing here, somehow feels like Emmet’s comping style during Jeremy’s solo doesn’t fit as well, but Emmet & Tivon styles complement each other
@@gregdolecki8530 that’s just incorrect. Hearing him in person will show you that. He’s got his own sound and doesn’t sound like a carbon copy of someone else which is increasingly more common these days
Dude the feel change in the rhythm section for Trane's solo goes so damn hard. And Trane's entrance line makes my face scrunch like i just opened a container of spoiled milk. Edit: lol this is the first time I've posted a comment on the wrong video. But Patrick's solo also gives me spoiled milk face
The trumpet played it once and implied he was going to do it again. Emmet was listening, as is a pianist’s job. It’s a skill you pick up with experience
The guy on the couch working with his laptop is impeccable 😂
His name is Mr . PC though ...... ;)
I'm sure he's really swinging inside.
the camera angle with the drummer is like mainly focusing on him too lol
😂😂😂
Cos why wouldn’t you…?

Who ever said he's underrated ?
Groovin High lick at 5:04 is actually so impeccable to me
Nothing beats the Emmet's Place comments for figuring out the source of the quote you can't quite place. This would've bothered me for days. Thanks!
I noticed that on my first listen too 😅. Was hoping someone else would hear it too.
“If I Were a Bell” quote 5:50-5:54
Playing a gig in a couple hours and was debating putting this on the set list.
Guess the inspiration is there!
one of the best trumpet solos i've ever heard
A little miracle happend at 6:10 !
Emmet such an astute accompanist
Patrick would be proud!
Not a miracle, it's called listening and super common language.
@@AndrewJanusson L + ratio + you fell off + touch grass
You can actually hear Jeremy set it up at 6:08 !
I usually don't love muted trumpet sound but this was really great
Oh and 6:08 WOW
caught that too, and seemingly no reaction
I call 6:08 sorcery , witchcraft and magic !
Bro never heard miles Davis? 😂
@@jur2823 it's an unpopular opinion of mine, but I don't really love Miles Davis's sound... I haven't listened thaaat much either though
@ yeah without the mute his sound wasn't great lmao 😂 always loved his muted playing though
Oh love that gorgeous open…
amazing performances by all! Emmet’s YT channel should be considered international cultural heritage! What a way to start the weekend!🎉

I opened for Tivon when he came to my city recently. His band is great and he’s the real deal. Pelt is out of this world as always
Good Show ....Sounding Really Good !!
Bolivia lick at 3:45 is so nice:)
What?
I caught that too! Imma have to steal that on this tune
What is the bolivian lick?
@@timoteogodoydeleon631Bolivia is a Jazz Standard Song composed by Cedar Walton.
Emmet hit upon he can use its lick here.
solo is killing, thank you rhythm section for laying it down like that, especially bass 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Tivon.....WOW!
Jazz at its finest! Thanks guys.
Fuck. Reuben is just the funkiest. That was awesome.
Anyone else hearing the redman in tivons playing? Killin’
Oh my God there are no words to describe this wonderful performance ! what a band !
Drum is stunning
I love when the tenor sax player goes outside at 8:15
I'm decently sure 7:18 is a quote from Tank!'s Space Lion
I think this is byfar one of my favorite performances ive seen on the channel, awesome work by everyone
Saw Jeremy live not too long ago, just phenomenal horn player!

Yes.
Emmet Cohen channeled McCoy Tyner at 4:02 onward.
I will play this version tomorrow night at the gig.
absolute fire!
Beautiful rendition
Great rendition, tp so tasteful, and some serious Eric Dolphy vibes in a very personal ts solo, bravo

As it should be. Thank you all.
omg i love this tune its so underrated (i think then again i may just not be in the right circles)
Yes
Wow!
FINALLY!!!
everything they touch turns to gold
Tivon seems to me a bit like a new James Moody…sounding great. I chatted to James in London back in the mid 80s..
tivon has gotta be one of the best sax players in the world
And he is
Agreed
His tone lacks any color and does not project. It's a "no" for me.
@@gregdolecki8530 that’s just incorrect. Hearing him in person will show you that. He’s got his own sound and doesn’t sound like a carbon copy of someone else which is increasingly more common these days
