Love seeing metal drummers with jazz influences, really shows at places like 3:11, with the snare rolls. Gar had dynamic, which is what made him so unique. Don't do drugs.
As do I but Nick is pretty underrated. Gar was the best Megadeth drummer even though Dirk probably has the best metal chops, Chris Adler of course is right there with him, and the rest are no slouches. They all have different styles but Gar revolutionized metal drumming and Jesus I just got to that fill right before where the outro kicks in holy fuck
He just pounds away on that fucking snare! God, those consistent snare hits really make this song awesome! When this drum track is thrown together with all the other instruments in this song, it makes a masterpiece of a song that makes me wanna fly down the highway in my car and meet with my friends in the highschool parking lot and do a bunch of fun and stupid 12th grader shit.
@@Baraka_Obama_ Jeff young and Chuck Behler are really good musicians, but their sound is not that appropriate for Megadeth. I love So Far So Good So What but it is certainly different than other albums
3:54 - 4:10 has such a swinging approach to 2 + 4. Sorry, but give me the swung thrash; Marty & the 90s Megadeth crew could never cop this feel if they wanted to. Its not what Gar played, but how he played it.
@@duncanohoge Drummers have more influence than people give them credit for. Guitarists can get used to the swing if they drop their ego & focus on feel rather than soloing. Chris is a great example of that. Conversational, improvisational music will do that.
My life's on time but again my sense is late. Feel a might unsteady but I still have to play. Six to one's the odds and we have the highest stakes. And once again I gamble with my very life today. Highly polished metal, the oil makes it gleam. Fill the terror chamber, your mind begins to scream. Your life is like a trigger, never troubled till you're squeezed. You crack a smile as you give the gun a squeeze. Place the pistol down, now give the gun a spin. Soon as the spinning stops, oh no, the game starts in. A hateful way of vengeance, a bit of playful sin. Load another bullets, now the second round begins. A couple grains of power, a couple grams of lead. A touch against the trigger, a touch inside the head. Take another drink and raise the last bets. Think about my last words, they might be what I just said. A click comes from the hammer that couldn't drive a nail. Sense the numbing cold blue or the red of Hades' grill. A fraction of a second, do you lose or maybe still. Pass it to the left and collect your mighty kill. Add another bullet, the third round begins. Soon as the spinning stops, oh no, the game starts in. Please, no IOUs no markers for death. Does anybody play? Anybody? Somebody? Anybody play? You, you! Next victim! You, next to die. You, you! Next victim! You, next to die. You, come on! Next victim! Your turn to die! You, come on! In the photo, he's playing DW. Turret lugs they were known to have gotten from Camco. Maybe during the sessions he had Gretsch, but he was an early DW endorser.
Not really too much to get excited about here bar a few accents on the snare. He wrote much better parts such as Devil’s Island which has a lovely bass drum groove.

Gar actually created the Megadeth sound by challenging Dave's guitar playing,RIP, you were awesome
All due respect to Nick Menza, he was no Gar Samuelson.
I agree

Nick was garr 's drum tec.
Those snare rolls @3:12 are absolutely beastly. He was the perfect mix between groove and absolute aggressiveness.
Aggressive grooviness
3:12
Gar had jazz training before he was even in megadeth, that's why he was awesome.
BGB IG more than just jazz training. He was a jazz drummer first. He's an example of the beauty that happens when you mix jazz fusion with thrash
BGB IG..... EXACTLY
@@Droogie128 The new yorkers!!
I think megadeth is the fusion between metal and jazz. And metallica is the fusion between metal and blues.

@@geraldorodriguew3605 also metal is blues based so..
When he really launches at around 3:30 is pure as it gets. Amazing.
That cymbal intro is eargasm
recently started getting into old megadeth (i was mainly listening to rust in peace) and now i know why people praise gar. what a groovy drummer

bass line gets me every time! my favourite of theirs (well, probably, hard to pick one!) for decades now..
Gar Samuelson. What a beast, he was in top form on this song. Nice track.
4:19 that fill was sick
@Gary Smith Gar's the best drummer in Megadeth history, even Dave would agree
@Gary Smith So Far, so good, so what would of been 10x better with Gar and Poland those other dudes sucked. Marty and Nick were great on Rust in Peace

That snare sound is heavenly ❤❤
Gar was a amazing drummer. My favorite drummer, from my favorite Megadeth lineup!!!
This is all Gar my friend, not even could Satan play what he played

Amazing artwork by a genius on a genius track with an unmatched band.
Great drum recording and sound and performance
Gar is an amazing drummer from the thrash metal movement

This is awesome.
To me, it seems like he's swinging the entire time in a metal song.
I wish dave would release the original drum tracks from kimb.
I don’t know how he played like he did on all that smack. Only when you’re young I guess
great!
i cant believe what im heari ng
🤘

Anyone know what drums he used?
The CD and vinyl inserts say he played Sabian cymbals, a Ludwig snare, Gretsch drums, and DW pedals.
In the photo, he's playing DW. Turret lugs they were known to have gotten from Camco. Maybe during the sessions he had Gretsch, but he was an early DW endorser.

bruh
There's always one....
Snare needs more reverb. Not.
Gar is great but this has always been his most boring song to me the song really shines on Jr though
No, peace sells
Are you nuts? This has arguably the best Mustaine solo he ever pulled off.
bentnosewp he’s talking about Gar’s drumming not the song itself
3:12 onwards is amazing
