Im not into fitness, I come across one of these videos randomly, but now I watch them all, fecking hilarious and non preachy, its actually making me think. Top man.

A bit of piss-taking, not taking himself too serious, likeable and funny in a deadpan, droll way, which is good in my big book. More power to you brother, keep on keepin’ on. Peace and Love
People love marketing about metabolism because it sounds clever and confusing. The best thing someone can do is set up their training and nutrition to make sure they can continue to do it - obviously I'm oversimplifying things, but the shortcut is sustainability. It prevents you from always needing to diet!
I appreciate that you keep saying the same damn shit week after week, but make it uniquely entertaining with crass jokes. It's like some sort of hypnotism.
Okay. point taken. However. I live in Thailand where most of the drinking water is devoid of minerals & electrolytes leaving me thirsty no matter how much I drink. There are sugary, brightly colored electrolyte powders to add to the water but I find that I get the same affect naturally from lemon water. Just a thought not related to fat loss.
I put lemon in my water because I like the taste of it.... reminds me of having a G&T frankly ....but then I go for a walk, with my dogs, which actually helps my metabolism 😅
Lemon was never for weight loss historically but rather for Alkalizing the body and Vitamin C boost. This can help fight infections and supposedly Cancer. It Can also benefit your skin but its not great for your teeth in large quantities. Im no professional so i dont claim that to be true.
James you are absolutely right. 100% honest. I have been there is 7% body fat and having an 8 pack really made me feel miserable. Now my goals are to get stronger and having a bit of belly fat I simply don’t give a shit.
I do lemon water to prevent kidney stones. I have had 2 kidney stones and they are no joke passing. My Nefrologist suggested lemon water has citrates that soften the formation of kidney stones.
´´resetting´´ my metabolism works for me though. I eat in a strict calorie deficit, but one day per week i up my calories to maintenance, or even slightly above. I read this tactic in a bodybuilding book a few years ago. Supposedly it resets your hormones, helps to avoid fatigue and dropping energy levels. I think it works. It helps me stick to my diet, because i can look forward to that sunday when i´m allowed to eat half a loaf of bread or a big chunk of lasagna. I also feel significantly less hungry in the first half of the week. It might just be a placebo effect, but i don´t care as long as it works.
Just a quick question: Are you a professional body builder or something? Seems absolutely insane to me that anyone would eat in a strict calorie deficit beyond trying to lose weight because they are massively overweight.
That’s not resetting anything. You’re just increasing your calories for a day. You’re still in a deficit overall. Maybe it prevents chronic stress long-term and, as you pointed out, gives you something to count down to. You also don’t need to justify your choices here mate. Nobody’s even criticising your choices. You’re doing fine
Doesn’t have anything to do with resetting your metabolism. Resetting your metabolism would imply that you’re no longer losing weight because your metabolism is severely downregulated from a lengthy starvation diet. But that’s not what you’re doing, you’re just letting yourself eat more calories every now and then as a way of improving your recovery and assist in your adherence to your diet. There’s nothing wrong with that, but it doesn’t have anything to do with resetting metabolism.
All I know is when I am shredding and my glycogen stores are empty, I put a shitload more fat on when I have 10 bourbon and cokes, than if I have 10 bourbon and cokes when bulking and full glycogen stores. Also it will take like 10 days to get back to base when shredding, 1 day if bulking, if that
I write this as an Australian. To be fair they both measure the same thing, energy. Remember the law of conservation of energy says "energy can't be created or destroyed, it just changes form". Ironically this law was written by Englishman, James Prescott Joule. If you read on you'll find out why *JOULES RULEZ!* The term calorie comes from "caloric theory" which is an outdated belief that says "heat cannot be created or destroyed, it simply moves from one object to another". Consider the following definitions. A calorie is defined as: the amount of heat needed to raise the temperature of one liter of water by one degree Celsius. Joule is defined as: The SI(International System of Units) derived unit used to measure energy or *work.* One joule is equal to the energy used to accelerate a body with a mass of one kilogram using one newton of force over a distance of one meter. One joule is also equivalent to one watt-second it equals 107 ergs, or approximately 0.7377 foot-pounds. Imagine counting foot-pounds instead of calories or joules 😂 Note: I have no idea what an erg is but one watt-second is also an *electro-mechanical* term for energy (used or produced), work done or *Power* I.e Moving a weight some distance(mechanical work) Our bodies are essentially machines. Bio-mechanical machines. 🫵are a MACHINE! Now, get those "magnet-for-feet" MOVING! I digress... according to said definitions... Calories seem to be more for measuring potential heat/energy with regard to raising the temperature of some volume by 1° Celcius I.e things burning, fuel (in our food). Whereas joules are more for measuring potential mechanical heat/electrical energy. I.e temperature change due to *mechanical or chemical transformations of energy* or *Power* being used/generated in a (bio)mechanical system, I.e. A fat koont Exercising. 🤨🤭 The term joule is named after English Physicist, Mathematician and *brewer*, _James Prescott Joule._ He came up with the _foot-pound._ - the ability to raise a mass of one pound to the height of one foot. He was interested in the nature of heat which led to his discovery of its relationship to mechanical work, which then led to the development of the "law of conservation of energy", which then led to the "first law of thermodynamics"... He was very interested in electricity which led him to his discovery. It directly challenged caloric theory but he was able to show that heat was created in conductors (in his electric motor) and not transferred from any other part of the system(curcuit). Further experiments and measurements with his electric motor gave him the measurement of 4.1868 joules as the mechanical equivalent of heat per calorie of work to raise the temperature of one gram of water by one Kelvin. In repeated demonstrations he showed that the temperature went up only by electrical and mechanical means, disproving caloric theory repeatedly. He also did work with *_Lord Kelvin_* , who the thermodynamic Kelvin temperature scale is named after.
I have no evidence for this, but in the fall I feel my hunger levels increase, my body senses being cold and tries to put on some insulation… has this ever been investigated? Could an ice bath just make you more hungry and even more miserable because your body thinks it needs to prepare for winter
I have previously had hypothyroidism and seemed unable to lose weight even with a caloric deficit and the exercise I could do. Once it was corrected with medication I was able to lose weight. Does hypothyroidism affect ability to lose weight or exercise. Thanks
Hey James, I thought of a video idea for you. Not sure if this is the best place to reach you. How Mobile Games Can Help Increase Step Count: I've been playing Pikmin Bloom for the last couple of weeks and it has increased my step count by an average of 5000 steps a day. The only way to progress in the game is to get off your arse and walk. The game adds incentive to get up and move. Gamify your walls if you will 😉

As we all know, one story of anecdotal evidence is worth more than any scientific research, so here's the best strength/diet advice you'll ever need: When I were a lad I laboured on building sites. Many of my peers were old Irish 'navigators' or 'navvies' - the guys who laid the railways, dug cuttings and tunnels. A lot of these blokes were incredibly strong - could dig clay one handed, lift barrowsful of wet muck over their heads with ease, that sort of thing. And yet, they were slightly built - wirey, you might say. So hard graft is the exercise part. Their diet was primarily Guinness, whiskey and 20 Woodbines a day, supplemented by the odd pie and a full breakfast at the weekend. So there you have it, the key to strength, diet and health. You're welcome.
Love the content as always, but taking a slight sour note with the lemon point, haha. Yes, morons claiming it "kickstarts your metabolism" for the day are wrong.
