Thank you so much for this content James. Yesterday you did the impossible and flicked a switch in my partner to make changes. I asked him to watch your video and actually pay attention to the message. He's big, so am I and I'm losing slowly but he scares me with his inactivity and eating habits. He has ptsd and depression and when he trys to get help for his weight or mental health he is told he's depressed because he's fat and he should 'not be sad', in reality he is fat because he's depressed with no coping mechanisms or support. After watching your video he had a completely different energy, he got on my treadmill and discussed doing a little more each day, ate a small snack rather than binging, was more present rather than hiding in his ps5 bubble. He made better decisions and talked about changes for the future. Oh I'm rambling but thank you. 'It's not your fault but it's your responsibility' really hit home with him, it was exactly what he needed to hear. Thank you 💜

I was in a deficit for about 2 months of around 1800 a day (including weekends!) losing around 1kg a week, then I went up to 2300 a day and continued to lose weight, obviously at a slower rate. But, I feel so much happier, more energy and PR'ing everything in the gym. So far lost 39kg, now I'm at the really really slow phase of losing the last few kg of fat I don't want.

I find your content so informative because you cut out the BS and call out those who are full of c*ap. I’m a 40 year old female who is on a journey to undo a lifetime of mis-information, has lost years of my life punishing myself with cardio, and eaten a diet high in processed ‘health’ foods. I love your no-nonsense approach. I started strength training 3 months ago and I’m loving it! I am in the process of kitting out the garage - I have the motivation, I just need the knowledge to be safe and effective. I feel so energised and ready for life! I still feel like a novice so I always appreciate posts regarding form and adaptions to overcome limitations. I now need to start refining my diet so I can achieve some fat loss. I’d love to see some female specific content - how to train around hormones etc. Caloric deficit around the menstrual cycle. Or does training and diet even need to be adapted around the menstrual cycle? Is an intuitive approach best? If I’m feeling rubbish, just have a download week?

Hi James, loving the no BS content.
I recently consulted a PT on the exact same topic. I basically I found that I've been living in a deficit for a loooong time, but still have areas of fat. I'm training 4-5 times a week n all that so I was somewhat confused.
Basically, his answer was I was that my prolonged caloric deficit has caused an imbalance in my hormones (not enough testosterone, too much estrogen), and triggered the 'starvation 'mode'. The answer: My HIIT and Circuit Training should be changed to Resistance Training, and I should increase my 1600 cal diet to 2600.
Would love to know your thoughts on this...

Thanks for the videos, im an experienced gym goer and play rugby! I know the basic principles of caloric deficits and maintenance but the simplification your videos provides has broadened my knowledge and allowed me to speak to others about it easily too, cheers

How hasn’t someone explained this as simply as this before now???? This is awesome. I really enjoy the videos. Can’t think of a way to improve them. The bits in between like the skateboarding or airing out the budgie smugglers breaks it up well so it’s not just a big scientific punch in the face (although what you say it’s totally understandabe) nice 👍🏻

Quick comment on your vid fornat and quality: was stuck to the screen for the whole vid 😂 as I'm sure you know from your recent diagnosis (congrats btw) watching youtube with ADHD means I often get distracted so I really appreciated the skate break, the simple verbiage and not reiterating the same points 5000 times or padding out the run time with pointless cliffhangers.
Very informative, bite-size content and I can't wait for you to cover more topics!

Love the content and now with the added drawings when needed/necessary, love that it's informative and basic/easy to understand, you're not throwing big words around just to sound smarter... The "in the life of" parts threw me off a bit in the first couple of vids but am use to it now, so no dislikes so far... Honestly, always quality!!

James, I’ve never left a RUclips comment in my life…You good man have just taken my cherry!
I can’t thank you enough for this. I’m a newly qualified PT and although I’ve never really fed into the whole idea of starvation mode, I did want to get my head around this and AT so I can discuss it confidently.
I asked this question on 1 of your IG ‘ask me a question’/story the other day, it might be coincidence that you’ve made this video but if you’ve done it off the back of my question (& im sure others might have asked) well done sir.
Thanks again. Keep up the good work. 🤙🏽

Really enjoy the videos and most of your content. I like the fact you're honest and informed and passing on knowledge for free and without endorsements. I don't like the fact there was an advert for Burger King below the video but I guess that's out of your control 🤣

I love your content, found you on TikTok and so glad that I did! Honestly I enjoy every part of the youtube content you make. I really like how you add in parts of your life with the advice and education, not something I've seen a lot of on other channels, keep up the amazing work and thank you for everything you're doing! Also, your commute into work on that skateboard is gorgeous!

Great video James. Short, to the point. Nice little break up of a quite scientific content with some refreshing visuals.
I'd love to see some workout content

Great stuff. Since you asked, I kind of like it when the educational stuff is separate from the day in the life stuff. Sometimes its distracting when I'm trying to digest the information you're presenting. But in this particular video I liked it because the activity of skateboarding to work to keep up your NEAT went along with what you were talking about, so it wasn't distracting and enhanced the content.
