    Dude, this video caused an epiphany for me. I "suddenly" gained about 50 lbs 8 years ago and I've been trying to lose it by adding a workout and cutting calories ever since. Long story short, after watching your video I realized my weight gain happened within 2 years of my divorce and my kids going off to college. I went from caring for a family of 4 in a 5 bed home to caring for myself in a 1 bed condo. I just move a lot less now outside of exercise! My daughter has also been complaining about gaining weight, and because of your video I was able to tell her that it's because she went from working events to a WFH desk job. Thank you SO much.

    This man is 100% correct...and in nowhere is he wrong. Mr. Smith is a breath a fresh air. I learned that walking 3 X 30 minutes per day for a total of 90 minutes, was the KEY to getting lean. That level of movement not only burns lots of calories, but it gets your blood sugar levels under control, which makes you crave less food and sugar. 90 minutes of walking per day also gets Leptin and Ghrelin hormones in the brain functioning in top form with helps with hunger and satiety signaling from the brain.......which along with controlled blood sugar, makes healthy eating more doable and fun. Cheers to this channel and to James Smith.

      Accountability is a foreign concept to a lot of people. At least, as far as weight is concerned. I say this having lost over 50lbs of fat in the last 15ish months while building a solid bit of muscle weight training.
      It's true that it's easier for some than others, and we all have a different relationship to food, but it astonishes me the mental gymnastics a lot of fat people go to in order to avoid admitting that they're just not ready to make changes. It's like fine, look, you don't have to want to try and move toward a healthier weight, but stop acting like it's out of your control; It isn't. Be. Accountable.

    It took me trying to gain weight to finally realize why I could never successfully lose weight.
    I was always fair active but would constantly yo-yo diet. Eventually, I fell of the bandwagon completely and gained 150lbs
    I underwent a bariatric procedure, and lost a tremendous amount of weight to the point where my surgeon asked me to try to gain some weight.
    So I dialed back my workouts and ate a little bit more. I felt super energetic throughout the entire day, way better. Step on the scale, and I actually lost weight.
    And it finally freaking clicked. I had more energy and was running around all day long.
    All those years, I would busy my ass in the gym and then spend the rest of the day half passed out on the couch and starving.
    No wonder I could never maintain. Work out to strengthen the heart and the body. But NEAT is how you lose weight and keep it off.
    It took me decades of trying different diets and workouts and life altering surgery to figure it all out. I hope somebody reads this, and doesn’t have to learn the lesson the same way I did.

    When I exercise regularly (e.g. weight lifting for 45 minutes 3 times a week) my eating habits change a lot without putting in much conscious effort. I stop craving junk food and my appetite goes down despite needing a bit more energy overall. I think this is the general experience from what I've read and heard.
    When exercise is recommended for weight loss, I'd like to see the effect on appetite as the main reason. If you start thinking about the extra calories you burn through exercise and how low that number is, you'll just end up disappointed or overexert yourself and get depressed and discouraged.

    Dropped down to 1 healthy meal a day (mostly, but not religiously), drinking plenty of water and walking more. Seeing massive results, but no idea exactly how much I've lost because I'm just trying to make it sustainable, and sustainable for me doesn't mean living on the scales, or staring at a spreadsheet all day, it's just getting on with my life. When I've dropped down to a weight where I feel like hitting the gym, I'll probably start some training. Love your no crap approach, James - I've been taken in by the people you speak of in the past and it never did squat, and it wasn't until I saw this video a couple of months ago that I realised the NEAT stuff is far more important.

Trying to get close to zero calories through the things we drink is also a huge help cos that gives us more flexibility with how much we can eat.

    Such a good video I am forever telling clients that come to me for 1 or 2 sessions a week to loose weight that basically unless they sort out their diet and stay in a deficit they are not going to loose fat by training 2 days a week
    They will feel stronger get fitter which is why we train and they just don’t get it.
    The way you explain it makes it so clear.Will-be sharing this video

    How refreshing to find someone who cuts through the BS and gets straight to the nub of the issue without trying to profit from it. My recipe for weight loss. Daily walk of 3.5-4 miles at a reasonable lick whilst wearing a 10kg weight vest. I am down 20+ kilos (from 99kg to 77kg) in 6 months. Appetite has diminished as a result so eating less - try and keep junk to a minimum. Not difficult - just requires a little discipline to develop the daily habit and then stick to it. Subbed.

I was pleasantly surprised to find out you're actually distributing accurate and very good information. I absolutely agree with you.
    I lost over 120 pounds since June 2021, and maintaining at just above 200 since February, by understanding the principal as you called it. My way to it was gradual changes to make them habit/lifestyle. You're absolutely right that there's too much emphasis on the tools (diets and eating schedules).

    After years of researching keto I finally tried it last year for nearly 4 months. Never seen fat melt off my body so quickly, never felt better in my entire life.
    I've been doing intermittent fasting for years now, especially during a cut. Works wonders.
    Not sure why so much shit gets talked about these methods. I just assume majority of people who say they're doing these methods really aren't fully committed, are hilariously inconsistent, or are just lying to themselves and others.

    • @Chris-fh3qv
      @Chris-fh3qv 10 месяцев назад

      Because Keto literally eliminates a whole macro nutrient. Hormonally and nutritionally Carbodhydrates are very important and essential for the body. Ketosis is the body going in to starvation, sounds a bit extreme no? Why not cut the carbs down, up the protein and stay within your calorie deficit. Much healthier and will allow you to have good energy levels for working out and just being bloody happy in general.

    • @snakejazz
      @snakejazz 10 месяцев назад

      @@Chris-fh3qv starvation is when you're not eating period. Restricting foods is just fine, albeit I wouldn't say the ketogenic diet is something people should do for longer than a few months because of the restrictions. Just don't confuse restriction with starvation, although they may coincide, they are very different things.
      Also the keto diet doesn't completely negate carbs, you still eat some just very little. Ketones that your liver produces offer a plenty good alternative solution to exogenous energy sources, if not better in some aspects i.e. for brain health.
      I would agree what you said is technically the "healthier" option, but doing a keto diet for a couple months isn't something that would put your health at risk in almost any capacity. Like, I could say eating a salad everyday for a week is healthier than eating pizza for a week, but eating pizza for a week won't kill you.

    I think the biggest thing that makes people give up is that they don't understand that they are not starting at energy equilibrium.
    If you have gained 1-2kgs in the last year, you need to reduce the amount your eating and exercise more just to stay the sane weight you are now.
    To lose weight you need a bigger change than your are expecting and its going to take longer than you expect.
    People downplay exercise in losing weight but not many people running 20 kms a week struggle to stop gaining weight.
    If you gain 10kg of muscle over a couple of years of training, your calorie expenditure at rest is higher by as much as 150kcal per day, thats a beer every day.
    Or another way of looking at it, 10 kg of muscle burns enough energy to prevent 5kgs of weight gain over a whole year.

    Not being facetious here, but for older folk or those with disabilities, an in-wash bidet toilet is a plus. Instead of reaching with paper for where you can't reach or see, just by pushing a couple of buttons on the wall-mounted remote alongside, the whole process of cleaning up after a motion is simplified and more sanitary. (I installed one after my husband's cancer diagnosis and can't see going back now to the old way.)
