I love that 2009 at the end. I am here, december 2019 and the Xen open beta just launched, and I can finally play the whole game from start to finish, decade later than expected. Great things take time.
Looking back into the past, and looking into the present, I can say with confidence: What Black Mesa eventually turned into is nothing but masterprice. The greatest remake of our time and perhaps a clear example of fan love, which has passed the test of as much as 16 years... Valve: Release HL: Source instead of a full-fledged remake Fans: Fine, we'll do it ourselves. And he did it...
Fancy meeting you here, comrade. I hope you've gotten around to playing the finished game (definitive edition is best IMHO) because it's a real pisser!
I'm proud to be one of the persons who watched this trailer on release, download the beta in 2012 and be one of the first to buy the game in 2015. It was a project that always had my support and hype. I couldn't be more satisfied for what this project become.
Insane that it started the project in 2004, now its out and it's a full game you can see some rare screenshots from Black Mesa development era on the developer profiles.
Man, this trailer takes me back! I still remember coming home from school one afternoon, opening up RUclips, and finding this very trailer on my homepage due to the copious amounts of Half-Life and GMOD vids I watched. The hype was incredible! 14 years later and it’s now a full-fledged remake with Xen included as well, far surpassing people’s expectations.
I remember watching this exact same trailer when they released it on the Source Movie Vault. I didnt expect it to see the light of day and yet it released in 2012. Now it is its own game. What a tale for these modders
Love the remake! Absolutely amazing! Beautiful, exiting and extremely nostalgic to play. Transported me back to to where I was teenager playing it! I would have paid money for it even! I can't wait to see the crew's interpretation of Xen. Unfortunately there were no fun and weird alien environments in HL2. The citadel came close though. So I hope the team will extend their imaginations to the limit!
Does anyone remember playing Half-Life for the first time? I just did that, and made it as a Let's Play on my channel! Wanna get nostalgia'd? I'll add it as a video response if I can.
If this ever does get released I would love to see it become so popular it brings an interest in updating more old titles. Its hard to introduce people to classic games like HL when they look like crap by todays standards but they are still worth enjoying. Great job by the development team I hope to be thoroughly appreciating this soon!
yes finally i remember actually watching this trailer when it first came out and then waiting years and years for ti to actually come out, i cant believe its been almost 9 years and its just getting finished.
The end of the trailer: Half-life's famous high intelegence cockroach Black mesa: doesn't have cockroaches We've been tricked, we've been bckstabbed and we've been quite possibly, bamboozled
I can't wait. 11 days seems so far now! Although I forget that we've been waiting a lot longer than that. I lost hope, and now this is the most excited I've been for a game in like 6 years.
i love seeing how the game changed over the years, the game looked much more source-like back then, like it was just meant to be the source version of half life 1 (but good), now with the full release it barely looks like a source game at all, we even have blue shift and opposing force getting made now
oh these memories... the "before" was the best time "after" the original. I remember how excited i was, as this trailer was released. watched it countless times. and today i was playing HL1 (the original) and i remembered the "generator" level/scene. exciting
The bulk of the game, the pre-Xen levels, came out in 2012, so the release date wasn't off by much. The only thing that held them up was Xen, which they expanded to several times bigger and better. It was like a second game, honestly. The whole game felt like a massive improvement and I would rate it 5/5. It's too bad the tough and lengthy development probably discourages them from taking on a similar project again. I saw them in interviews and was surprised to see they were still pretty young guys. I had thought they must have grandkids by then.
"Wasn't off by much"? Not that I'm complaining, BM is a blast, but they were 3 years late for the initial launch and Xen took even further. Seeing "2009" here is even funny
I remember reading about this game in PC Gamer back in 2004-2005. I was in high school back then. Today, im almost 25! It's amazing to see this game almost out! I can't wait to play it!
The background action music and the fighter jet sequence for some reason feels like an Australian air force commercial from the late 1990s. Makes me wanna enlist now haha.
It takes 12 years of development to release a full game. All started as a HL2 mod under the title Black Mesa Source. Released last 2012. Crowbar Collective together with Steam and Valve, improved the game where they made beta releases 2015 to 2019. Until last 2020, the official game is out under the title: Black Mesa (removing the Source name) 1.0. Such mods like Surface Tension Uncut is already included in the game release and added the Xen chapters. A year later, 2021: they released the final update of the game 1.5 or known as the Definitive Edition where there are improvements and some elements from HL1.
Ive been following this mod since high school 7 years ago on and off. I cant wait! I would of gladly paid for this, stunning work! THis is why you support modders devs! This mod I guarantee will inadvertently sell HL2 copies! In fact its on sale on Steam Right now!
Haha, I'm looking at Black Mesa since they launched their site for first time. This project was dying several times. And always they are talking "we will rise". Somehow after several deaths of this project, I can't belive in another "we will rise!". I'm more than shure I will donate them after release... if it will happen.
