- Hey! I made a little fan-project for Black Mesa and I've been working on it for the past 2 weeks. Hope you enjoy! Thanks to the Crowbar Collective team for making such an awesome game and to user @TheMostUpset for providing the sound effects!
PS: The reason I was gone for so long was because some personal things came up in my family and we also took a trip out of state so I didn't have any time to work on making new videos.

This actually makes 1998 Xen look better than what it was.
I've always been a fan of Half-Life's Xen. It feels like a living organism, and not a very welcoming place. Actually feels like a backwater place where aliens are hiding.
BM trailer makes BM Xen look better than it is too.

Just playing through the original Half-Life now, and I'm in the middle of the Xen section. I'm actually really enjoying it and I don't think it's that bad tbh - I can understand some of the platforming is tricky but maybe because I've done it a lot I'm used to the fuckery. I also enjoyed on a rail quite a lot. Really moody and great atmosphere down there.
@@laurencechase5439 it's mostly Interloper being kind of full of shit level executions, and also a shitty final boss. Otherwise Xen is.....fine-ish.

Also, I have to say, the one thing from Xen that looks better in Half-Life than Black Mesa is the portal at 2:15
Much more unsettling. That black void is better than the stunning and beautiful "sky" they've got going on in Black Mesa.
The black void does look ominous, but I think I prefer the Black Mesa sky because you can see all the rays flying around you, the Interloper tower, the Xen islands and the big red final portal. It just feels a little less climactic in Half Life then in Black Mesa.
@@alterrastudios2387 idk why I'm still here. But the black void combined with the music and the echoes of voicelines heard throughout the game really gives you the creeps.

While the black void is definitely eerie, it seems a bit out of place. Where is this? It doesn't look like the rest of Xen and seems more like a place created for dramatic effect than anything that would actually exist.

To me, Black Mesa is better.
But Black Mesa and the Half-life universe would not exist without the original Half-life.
And although everything is better in Black Mesa, doesn't change the fact that Half-life is still awesome.

You can't with the base game installed but there is a really good addon on Garry's mod called Half Life Resurgence where you can spawn tanks and other NPCs. Check it out on the workshop
