I agree! The Cadillac has a lack of the oh wow factor. The interior materials are a little rental car. But when you push it around corners, People with laugh when I say this. It’s very BMW light on It’s feet. This baby can dance. However it requires the interior to go to a proper finishing school.
I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a refresh after the Blackwing is let loose. To your point, the changes that need to be made are affordable and would go a long way. Personally, I’d like to see bigger brakes on the rear and less GM plastic.
Moonshot means to me 'something that seems impossible at first, but a person or a group put a herculean effort and achieved a previously unattainable goal'.
As much as i like this and the ATS V...i think im going Stinger GT2 or Might get spendy and go genesis g70 or gv70. Near same power..not as aggressive tunes BUT....those cars come standard with most of everything your paying extra for on the caddillac. The highway driving assist on kia/genesis is next level.
My CT5-V has 20-inch wheels, I probably would have stuck with the standard 19s but beggars can't be choosers during this microchip shortage. I think they ride fine. If you hit a pothole the ride handles it well although the noise is a little loud and jarring. I'm comparing to my previous car, a Jaguar E-Pace which also had 20s--it definitely didn't have as loud of a bang on bumps.
Design is fine, best so far in past decade or two. It's the bloated pricing that keeps it firmly iffy even for performance enthusiasts. Domestic premium priced? May as well keep buying premium imports then. Cadillac needs to figure out what it's trying to be, niche market or mainstream competitive priced domestic performance option in North America. We wonder why sedans aren't selling, have you seen the prices??
One major beef, you cannot get the 'rear view camera' for $2000, but more like for $8,500 due to 'bundling with other mandated options. Why not the V package, brembos, V-6, Magna ride and the optional $2K mirror along with cloth seats (heated and cooled)? That cuts their profit margin, but surely would make it up with more sales. Ok, I confess that I probably still wouldn't be able to afford it. But it would make it that much easier to make it a 'someday soon' goal.
OK, my long take on this. As Motoman knows, I used to own this car's predecessor, the 2014-1019 Cadillac CTS V-Sport (mine was a 2015). During this period of years, Cadillac only had two V-sport cars in the sub-brand being the CTS and oddly, the XTS. The ATS did not have a V-Sport version. The V-Sport was basically this car in many ways. The engine was larger (3.6L twin turbo) with more HP and torque (420/420). But the gear box only had 8 gears so the performance metrics (4.5 sec 0-60, 170 mph Vmax) are in line with this car with a 10 speed automatic. Mileage for the CT5 V is better than my car, again likely due to having two extra gears. Cadillac marketing department should have been fired for the rollout of the change to the V-series/V-Sport sub-brand. Not because it wasn't a good idea to merge them, but they kept the automotive press in the dark for weeks/months on what was the plan when this car debuted last year. As a result, even Motoman who knows about the V-Sport and even saw my own car at a Cars & Coffee in 2016 didn't bring up the rebranding effort. Mercedes went through a similar rebranding when they did away with the AMG-Sport brand and just went with AMG 65, 63, 53 and 43 series cars. But nobody batted an eyelash since everyone was told what the story was going to be going forward. OK, now that my marketing rant is over, as a previous V-Sport owner, I recognize many of the design decisions in this car that separate it from the Blackwing since Cadillac made similar decisions with the old V-Sport and V-Series respectively. First was the rear brakes. The CTS V-Sport also had Brembos in front and normal non-V brakes in the rear. In normal driving, this isn't really noticeable but if you are taking your car to the track or doing Motoman's mountain driving torture test, you will notice the fade. The electric steering in my car was actually class leading since BMW and Mercedes hadn't really figured out electric steering racks back then. What I'd like to know if the "Sport" mode (between Touring and Track) has the steering calibration closer to the track mode since I pretty much left my car in "Sport" mode full time. As for the length of the vehicle, this is a welcome change for someone who is as tall as myself. The old CTS barely fit me comfortably. The CT5 actually has a little more legroom for the driver and the rear seat has lots more legroom. Rear legroom was a big problem in the older CTS which was a nuisance as my teenaged kids continued to grow and were confined to uncomfortable situations when as a family of four we travelled anywhere (my wife's Chevy Bolt has more rear legroom). My car had just 18" wheels since Cadillac wanted to reduce the rotational mass on a car with 420 HP (not as much a problem on the 640 HP V-Series). The main problem with 18" wheels was that it was an odd size when getting performance tires replaced....19" wheels should be easier to match. I like the opportunity to option for the premium leather. I would pay the $6k for that. Yes, I agree that (to use a hockey term) Cadillac has been "chasing the puck" concerning vehicle interiors versus skating to where the puck is headed. Is it better executed than my car? Yes, definitely. Could it still be better for the price class? Sure. The Escalade proves Cadillac can do it. Hopefully the next generation of electric vehicles will do better. The old CTS V-Sport began as a more expensive vehicle....$60,000. But the V-Sport only had one option, which was the $10,000 Premium package. That got you a digital gauge cluster instead of the analog gauges in my car, a sunroof, better seats and a few other bits. As the years went by, the base V-Sport could be ordered with a sunroof. This car begins in the upper $40s and by the time you max out the options list, it's still a cheaper car than the CTS V-Sport premium. So yay! The price was one reason why I think V-Sports were pretty rare vehicles. I'd only saw maybe 3 others in my city during the three years I owned it. And I appreciate the option for an AWD version since not everyone lives in the sunny south and if you daily drive this vehicle in the north, you may want the sure footedness of all four wheels driving the car in bad weather. As for that "Arrest Me Red" color? If I were to get that car, it would be in that red since by sheer coincidence, most of the Caddy's I've owned since college have been in a shade of red with the CTS V-Sport being the brightest version, but not as flashy as Velocity Red. Sign me up!
@@MotoManTV Really? Wow I gotta check it out. (Mind you, I'm not talking about the Torch Red on the Corvette you reviewed, but the new red GM released for 2021).
Nice review. But the engine note/sound is horrible. But it is what it is for a V6 engine. Also that transmission shifter handle belongs in an old Cavalier
ISMH you talking about the dash and back of the seats? No Leather or something like that? If you want it costs much more than for all. GM is value than for others from Europe that cost much more for even less.. The Ride is cool in Red and with the Manual and pedals for my feet to work also.. 👍😎
I would have liked if this came in a manual considering that the Blackwing's got the manual. I'm a fan of rowing my own gears and its a shame I got to pay nearly 100k for a Cadillac manuual.
I think the car is a solid B. A bit more attention to detail in the cabin and it could've scored much better. That thing absolutely pops in that red color.
It could just be me but honestly it’s a bit of a shame because it seems for at least ten years now Cadillac has been building some of the best handling cars in their class but consistently can’t make an attractive interior.
I can’t help but mention that an AWD Kia Stinger GT2 is about $10,000 less expensive than this car and has even better acceleration. The RWD version is about $12,000 less expensive and has everything this car has and more.
I totally agree with you and that's been my problem with this brand. They get so many things right then skimp on the interior. Even spending $100 more per unit would go a long way towards improving their image. When you are the underdog, you have to bring your A-game, and they have simply refused to do it. 2020 was worse, so at least they seem to be improving a little. The CT4 has terrible color choices, which is a shame.
Why do I get Grace Kelly and James Dean vibes watching him race on a winding road with a cliff on the other side all while distracted giving us a commentary. Dont know if should SMH or give him a High Five?

I agree! The Cadillac has a lack of the oh wow factor. The interior materials are a little rental car.
But when you push it around corners, People with laugh when I say this. It’s very BMW light on
It’s feet.
Not sure the infotainment screen being tilted upwards like that was a smart move. Seems like it’s more prone to glare from sunlight.
Very beautiful car!!! And does your term "Moonshot" means it can't get any better or something like that?
The Jag did have as loud a bang or your 5V?
This car looks totally amazing! Nicer than C43, M340 in my opinion! Looks very mean! nice job!
Reminds me of the 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP with the LS3 6.2 V8. BLACKWING will be the one to wait for.
LOVED the 2009 GXP . . . Still want one.
@@MotoManTV if I’d know that in 2014, I would’ve sold you mine. Silver with red/black interior, sunroof. Wish I still had it.
Sign me up!
If that red wow'd you George, you should take a gander at the new Red Mist Metallic Tintcoat on the C8 Corvette.
Doesn't have the same impact . . . it's the color and the design.
Paddles work well with the 10 speed way more responsive now. They also use rev match when in sport or track modes
I’m so early 😅 I know to catch you around 6 AM from now on haha
Short of an OEM Embargo, our episodes go live at 13:00 CET/7:00 EDT/04:00 PDT
Please enlighten me about the reliability of this car?
Much better than the Germans & the British. Does this help you?
I’ve got 3900 miles on my 5V and all good so far.
Cadillac needs to bring the CT6 back 🙁
Yes, with a 4.2 liter BlackWing and call it CT6 - Escala.
Why not wait for 2022 which goes up 100hp?
It's not meant to be compared. It's meant to be enjoyed.
I would like to drive and compare this to an ATS-V.
I'm glad Cad is still making sedans; Chrysler only has the old and tired 300 and Lincoln doesn't even have sedans now
Thanks Kumo
:)
Cadillac ❤️
What does this cost ?
Clearly, you did not watch the episode.
@@MotoManTV no to long
Cadillac and GM should NEVER get rid of sedans. I love sedans and I hate SUV.
Very great looking car, the roof should be black imo tho
I think the car is a solid B. A bit more attention to detail in the cabin and it could've scored much better. That thing absolutely pops in that red color.
The red with black rims 👀 better
Nice so nice
Including the Lexus IS500 V8
It could just be me but honestly it’s a bit of a shame because it seems for at least ten years now Cadillac has been building some of the best handling cars in their class but consistently can’t make an attractive interior.
The interiors are such a let down.
My CT5-V gets 16 city, 29+ hwy mpg's, 21 combined.
Still believe the headlights should have been vertical
The rear is sexyyyy though
And G.M said hold my beer, blackwing gas mileage sucks but I know I can get more for it with I sell it
This sounds like it might be just the car for me. Replacing a Jaguar XJ that was great, but is old and tired.
I can’t help but mention that an AWD Kia Stinger GT2 is about $10,000 less expensive than this car and has even better acceleration. The RWD version is about $12,000 less expensive and has everything this car has and more.
It’s a Kia man lol I don’t care if it’s 20K less.
6.2 supercharged 2022 blackwing over this all day
Absolutely! But then we're looking at another 40k. I think we can have some fun in the 5V.
Lol what a stupid comment. They aren’t even in the same price point.
Still reminds me of a Chevrolet Citation X-11
HA!
Where’s my spare tire GM?
I'll just get a set of 10 ply run flats and drive to my local tire repair shop for a patch.
Or replacement, if needed.
Why do I get Grace Kelly and James Dean vibes watching him race on a winding road with a cliff on the other side all while distracted giving us a commentary. Dont know if should SMH or give him a High Five?
First time driving an unfamiliar car ever what do you do???
Track mode, foot to the floor, in twisties, on a freakin' side of a mountain/hill country😮😲🤪
No more velocity red for 2023. Most gorgeous colour and it’s gone. I hate GM sometimes….
Painful how they get in their own way. Frequently.
ya, well...just will never buy the last cars in my life that are not ragtops.
earlier, ya, cause i had a lotta years to go.
not any more.
now it is enjoying to the end.
please people...make more convertibles
Why did Cadillac give this CT5-V a bigger engine than the CT6? Which has a Real 4.2TT BlackWing Engine. The CT4 & 5 are not real BlackWings
These are designated V not blackwing. The only black wings now are the ct4 v blackwing with twin turbo 3.6 and the ct5v blackwing with the supercharged 6.2L v8
Ct6 v blackwing has been discontinued
@@racepnd Obviously!.. but the CT6 is the FLAGSHIP & was in Production at the same time The CT5 was...
@@MandusahRamirez ct6v blackwing had the twin cam twin turbo aluminum v8 it could also be spec with 3L v6 twin turbo. Ct6 was discontinued last year a full year before ct5 6.2L will be available.
@@racepnd I Know All Of That! What I’m saying is the 4.2TT is a Real BlackWing.. They Spent Billions to produce that engine just to put it in one car!! The 6.2 That’s going in the CT5-V will NOT be a real BlackWing. Just an upgraded version of the same motor in the CTS-V. My Point Is.. Why would Cadillac put a Larger 6.2 in A Smaller Car Than A CT6-V and why not put the Newer Engine which is the 4.2TT in the Newer CT5-V???
i want one in a manual take my money 💰
That red isn't befitting of that vehicle.
Lincoln who??????
Going to thank Mercedes for destroying the value in a brand like they did with amg so of course Cadillac and ford had to copy
With Cadillac reliability record this should get to 10,000 miles before it has a major failure
Not true. I own a '13 XTS4 and it has never had a major repair. $75.00 to replace the CUE screen was the biggest unexpected cost.
@@TheElectVideos Anectdotal evidence. A lot of people say "My daddy drove a (insert shitbox car here) and it ran for 300,000 miles and we never changed the oil." That's great and I'm glad that works out for some people but you want the odds in your favor. Toyota for example has most models reach 200,000 miles with no issue. If only 1 or 2 models of a certain manufacturer can do that in certain model years why give your money to a company who isn't about quality?
@The Real Answer But then you're driving a Toyota. Sorry.
@@TheElectVideos Opposed to Consumer Reports least reliable car you could buy, a Cadillac. I know this conversation will not change your mind but believing the brand image of a vehicle over actual data is why GM is able to sell any vehicles in the first place. To uneducated/ignoranant people.
I had the 2014 cts and now ct5v both are great cars guess it’s each to their own. I just don’t waste my time on Toyota vids running other people’s choices down.
I like this car but car prices are stupid in Canada even old used one is over 60k everything is priced high and sitting in dealer lot collecting dust they have 1000s of cars getting old getting rusted and they still stubborn and still selling them for high price I don't get it no one buying
I so far for years maybe saw 1 of these in city of Toronto which is busiest city in Canada only 1
But I go online there are millions for sale which means no fking one is buying so dealers get the fking point stop with this none sense over price bs tactics it's not working
I'm not lying for years I maybe saw one not even joking maybe even one
Buying a Cadillac is the biggest mistake I ever made, especially when it comes to getting service at a dealer. They assume you are made of money & charge you 2-3 x the amount that a comparable chevy or GMC dealer would charge you for the same repairs. No thanks.
Waah! Waaah! Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Can't take the heat, stay outta tha kitchen. Don't. Buy. What. You. Can't. Afford. Duh!
@@MrBaden77 I can afford whatever I want. That doesn’t mean I need to waste money on bullshit expenses that make no sense, that’s how I got the money I have, by spending smartly.
Perfect copy/ripoff of accord sedan sheet metal, side profile, side windows, and more. Even the front fascia has the aggressive vertical dropoff like the superior accord that it copies
LOL! You are wrong. The Accord is the copycat. It looks like a BMW wannabe. No one copies like Japan. They've been copying the West for roughly 500 years. Besides, all car companies copy one another these days. Pretty much every offering resembles another in the category. And Japan's car companies have copied GM and Ford designs too many times to count. The Camry has repeatedly copied Mercedes and Cadillac. The most recent Camry looks remarkably similar to the 2014 Chevrolet Impala. Only clueless soccer mom's think the Accord is superior to anything.
I think the genisis G80 looks better and has better quality interior.
Exterior no, interior quality no, interior looks yes, drivetrain NO, NO, NO! For me interior looks is the only area Genesis G80 beat this Cadillac.

I don’t buy a Cadillac to hear the engine race like a foreign sports car. I want a classy quiet luxury ride like a Cadillac is supposed to be .
A caddy should be classy, luxury , and most importantly...Big. Stop with this mid size nonsense . Bring back the old school look. They had a good thing with the XTS and the CT6, and they ruined it by discontinuing both. Big mistake . I’m out . After almost 20 years of Cadillacs, I find myself looking elsewhere . So disappointed .
