I agree with you that they shud have pushed the HP upto just under 400...knocking 60 HP off of the old CTS V Sport is just too much...I know some people were scared of that much power in a daily driver but I think bringing it down fo sub 400...around 385-395 wud have been ideal
That was a different engine. They were having some turbo and engine issues with 404 hp in the CT6. They did that for a reason. 3.0 TT engine vs 3.6 TT in V-Sport not the same.
Remember this is a small 3.0 V6. They didn't want to sacrifice longevity or reliability. Other models with more power have larger displacements. Substantially more power is available in the CT5-V Blackwing Series for about $60k more than this car.
Nice work with this review! Very well done. I really am digging the styling of the CT5! Beautiful proportions. Looking forward to that Blackwing spec!!! 🤩
I’m going to have to agree with fellow commenter Joseph. From the video I think they missed the mark on the interior. I will acknowledge that physical buttons are a big step up compared to the touch buttons on the last generation. I will reserve my full judgement until I get to sit in one at a dealer or auto show. I do appreciate the lack of RGB lighting however!
Its nice. But I really wish Chevy brought back the SS and actually build it in Michigan. Second Gen Alpha platform, LT2, Mag Ride, quiet interior. No glitz, no glam, no flash, all go. I would pay $50k for that. I have a 6th gen Camaro SS and love it to death. The chassis is sublime, as is the big NA V8 with the fat torque curve. I just wish it was more practical and had a bit more sound deadening. PUT THE LT2 in this CT5 and I would consider it. The Blackwing is gonna be another $100k car... too steep for me. Right now the only thing close is the 392 Charger, which does have a SOLID feeling chassis, but the handling is too sloppy for me, exhaust too loud, styling too gaudy.
This car reminds me of the 2020 Acura TLX A Spec from the outside. I like its looks, interior is very nice. Good detailed review. Cadillac is finally making great looking cars again.
I think this is a great effort by Cadillac. Only thing that's weird is the dimensions of the car. It's actually the same size as the 5 Series and E Class, but only has the space of the 3 Series? Inefficient design?
400 horsepower would increase operating temperatures, stress on the engine, change the price range the CT5-V was designed to occupy, and ultimately reduce long term reliability. Cadillac knows what the fu** they are doing. There’s a reason for these numbers. If this ain’t enough power Cadillac feels you’re probably nuts like them and prefer the high performance variant *(Blackwing)* which you probably can’t even handle.

I like the style of your review. I can't break it down, I go to the cinema to watch movies not "films", but I like it. I'm the simple man who'd rather spend the same amount of money as the new Caddy on a '92 De'Ville and a street version resto mod of a Trans Am series GM, Ford, etc. or a Javelin! with a few niceties such as A/C, a decent stereo and a modernish mouse pushing 400 hp/torque. I do like the car and can't wait to what the BlackWing version will do. Again, the video is well done. Maybe rethink the Mariah Carey and load up Blackfoot's "Highway Song" for the high horses reviews.😄
I don't get how they've compared this model to a BMW 3 Series? This is a "relatively" large car by today's standards (within an inch in length of the new Honda Accord) & I'd categorize it more along the lines of the KIA Stinger GT. I've got to admit, the front passenger area feels a bit "close" for this Class, but that's ok with me.
The CTS-V (the real deal, the Killer V) looked amazing, the CT-5 is just a weird looking car, the proportions or body lines just look wrong. The CTS and CT-6 are outright good looking cars, the CT-5 is kind of good looking but also kind of weird looking. Also I hate that they ruined the V name.
I purchased a new CT5V and it is a nice car. My car had a MSRP of $64,390. I look at Kelly Blue Book and Trade In Value is $43,350. I traded a 2018 CT6 3.0 TT Platinum and the trade in is $45,725. The CT6 was a much better car. Not happy at all.
The interior for this car should be as nice as the 2021 Escalade...they say its gonna be updated down the line but since this was an entirely new model, and now the flagship sedan from Cadillac, they should have made the interior more luxurious. I think the main reason they didnt make it as nice was because they wanted to price aggressively and undercut the Germans. This car has a starting price of $47k but competes with vehicles that start at $60k.
Beautiful lines unlike some of the boxy and bland German sedans. Inside way better then the plain blackness in many luxury sedans not perfect but a different twist. Go your own way Caddy. Don't be a lemming.
Where did you hear that? I'd be really surprised if there was a CT5 wagon as GM is staying away from slow sellers and a wagon will certainly be a slow seller.
They wanted something that would make sense as a daily driver and the old 420 hp engine from the V Sport was a bit too much for the average driver...imo they could have pushed it up to around 385 hp and still gotten over 20mpg...but keep in mind this new CT5 V starts at around $47k whereas the old CTS V Sport was around $60k starting...
Cadillac explained why theh did it...they wanted to give the car a more gran coupe appearance...and they had to split the rear passenger windows in 2 so that they would retract completely (because they are too large to otherwise) so another window on the C pillar would have meant 4 windows in total on each side which is excessive
Love the exterior look.. interior blows compared to the Germans though.. like how come the Escalade interior looks as it does.. and this looks like that..
Whats even crazier is that the Escala concept that the CT5 was styled after has the same dash design as the Escalade but they wont put in the CT5?? I love GM but sometimes I am like WTF is this all about GM!?!? 🤦♀️🤷♀️
Keep in mind the price of this car...something had to give...if this had the same interior as the 2021 Escalade it would be starting at minimum $60k and not $47k...they are testing the market with a more affordable option and sacrificing luxury for driving dynamics which is probably what someone interested in this car cares more about anyway. But rumor is that upgrades to the interior will be coming in future iterations and will be similar to the new Escalade.
Arriving later this month as 2021 model on CT4 and CT5 . The new digital display will be optional on Premium Luxury, Sport, and V-Series models via the Technology Package. Cadillac got tired of people on youtube complaining.
I am not sure why Cadillac does not stop playing the middle game???? They have not been able to produce a proper S class competitor and all other sedans are not properly positioned to compete against E or C class lines. They will never dominate the market only because of this simple reason. They had to eliminate CT6 because no one would buy that over a BMW 7 series long wheel base where the comparably equipped BMW would only cost $6000 more.
Caddy is crazy. All that effort and money spent building the V brand, then they throw it all out and make this milder version that should be called v series. It is mostly good looking except for that idiotic C pillar black trim, cheap.
