Just got this in the mail a few days ago! I read this run years ago when I was first reading a bunch of Wonder Woman, and SImone's run was always a favorite of mine. Of course, love the art by the Dodsons and Aaron Lopresti. I remember thinking Genocide was an awesome WW villain too. Glad to see it getting some positive attention!

This is my favorite run of Wonder Woman.
I've been writing in for years asking for some reprints of trades or anything. To me, nothing ever got close to it in the years to come.
I'm so damn happy that my first omnibus was this one. My floppies are all worn out from constantly reading them, so now I've got this to read through.
@Tom The Fish definitely. Two big trades would be perfect for people's pockets and not too daunting to not want to read it.

Oh, baby. That book is looking thick! I finished reading Greg Rucka's first run a while back and really need to hop onto this. Makes me wanna learn to lasso people and wear bracelets! Dodson is one of my favorite artists. Been a fan of his since I read Harley Quinn's 2000 solo run.

Great review. When I received this from Tales of Wonder last week I asked myself "Has DC actually delivered an omnibus???" Can't wait read this (and the WW Phil Jimenez omni that is sitting unread on a table).
This reminds me I still haven't read her Red Sonja Omnibus. Dang it. So many books, so little time.

Definitely one for my collection! Love the artwork in it and really wanna look into Gail Simone's work on Birds of Prey and Red Sonja. Have really wanted to find a more modern Wonder Woman run as I really love that modern artwork and there's some incredible artists working on comics these days! I reckon there would be some stuff in Simone's run used for the Wonder Woman 1984 movie too, like Cheetah and that gold Olympian suit

That has to be one of the most fun reads ever. Was so much fun, hopefully we get one
Solid run with fantastic art and the paperbacks have been tragically hard to find for a while. Not from this run, but actually just bought my first original art page and it's Lopresti. Underrated dude. Crazy how much of Wonder Woman has been reprinted for the first time or now in thicker trades and even oversized hardcovers since the movie hype started up. Are those Heinberg and Picoult books oversized by chance? I don't think so, but the way they looked made me second guess.
oh Lopresti is so damn good. I noticed that about the angle I was holding those up. They are all standard size HCs.

Before Gail Simone came on it was a cluster-f#ck they had fill in issues that had nothing to do with the current storyline it wasn’t a great launch. Aaron Lopresti is a solid hand and always dependable meets his deadlines and draws incredible strong women. He’s a good story teller. He had also did Ms. Marvel with Mathew Ryan who is I believe his perfect inker. Lopresti is a chameleon artist much like Stuart immomen , and Pete woods can draw in different styles. Great vid Omar and awesome job as always!!! Loved this run!
Also wanna mention the book looks nice but a little disappointed with the cover under the dust jacket it seems a little lazy I mean you couldn’t put a nice oversized Terry Dodson piece on there? The Batman city and crime oversized you reviewed the book under the dust jacket just POPPED!
Ohhh Lopresti is so underrated. Those first issues of WW by Heinberg were a good start, but holy crap the delays killed the momentum. She really saved the title.
My copy should be arriving today! (Along with Harleen) very excited since it’ll be my first Simone book!

Save the day? Nah. Simone started out strong in the first story arc, but she struggled as she went along, and I think it's actually one of the worse runs on the book. In fact, she writes a story where Ares impregnates the amazons against their will, which is one of the rapiest stories written since it happened to Carol Danvers back in the day. How she escaped criticism of that, is anyone's guess. The art is really the only thing notable about it. Simone 'borrowed' a lot of ideas from other stories, and doesn't do it particularly well. But the art is great.
I can see your point, but compared to Heinberg, Picoult and JMS this is the only run that stood out to me. And honestly lots of ideas for Wonder Woman have been done over and over and over. I will say that her run did take a dive toward the end though. But honestly so did her Secret Six and BoP.

This will absolutely end up on my shelf eventually but not right now. I really need to curb my DC purchases so that I can get stuff which is higher on the priority list for me at the moment. It doesn't help that I got recommended your Transformers video (damn you Omar *shakes fist*) so I watched it and am now eyeing those IDW Hardcovers (Only read Autocracy Trilogy and Megatron Origins from this series). The suggested reading order is really selling me on those right now.

Great video Omar now all we need is omniboo of the runs by William Messner-Loebs, John Byrne, Eric Luke and Greg Rucka then we will have all the major runs of WW between COIE and Flashpoint leaving 40-50 orphaned issues which could be made into a companion omnibus.
You know I want that Messner Loebs omnibus, bad!

Red Sonja. But really Birds of Prey> Secret Six > Red Sonja > Wonder Woman > Deadpool. In that order :)
My copy showed up and I’ve flipped through it some. Art looks nice and the book itself seems really well bound with nice paper and printing. Hope that’s the new normal for DC!

Hey Omar, I picked up both this Wonder Woman by Gail Simone omnibus and the new Miles Morales Spider-Man omnibuses based on your review. Thanks for the rundown. I’m really looking forward to finishing Miles’s story. The first omnibus was really great. Let DC know I’m still waiting for them to solicit the New 52 Flash vol. 2 omnibus. And the Road to Rebirth Omnibus. Or how about a “best of” Action Comics/Superman New 52 Omnibus including those Superman stories. That would be amazing.

I skipped this because I hadn’t quite gotten into DC omnibus yet and now I’ve missed it. BUT!! With Conan switching publishers, maybe we’ll get an expanded edition. Muahaha!!

The OG artwork on the dust jacket was more vibrant and colorful but the the reprint edition has this pale out or fade out color. WHY?!
This was a Day One buy for me. Got it in yesterday, started reading it last night. This was a defining run on Wonder Woman, and like Omar said, Gail Simone's run doesn't get talked about enough.

Just curious and I'm by no means an expert. But if DC can print the absolute edition of WildC.A.T.S. by Jim Lee with the X-Men crossover, surely a deal could be made for the Conan issue here?

Funny story I actually started to like Wonder Woman after watch8 g the justice league animated series a second time and end it up putting her as one of my mains in injustice one and two lol

As far as Wonder Woman Omnis, I enjoy this one far more than Jimenez and just a little more than Perez.
I recommend you buy the WW 75th anniversary box set. It has 4 trades from 4 different writers’ and artists’ runs but they’re key mythology and plot points. It’s a good box set to start off.

check ebay or some local comic stores, might still have one. otherwise wait till DC reprints which prob wont be for a long time

Why does everyone hate gail simone? From this run I’ve only read The Circle and I loved it!
People have the hardest time seperating the artist from the art. She is outspoken in her believes and that drives some people crazy.

Hey Omar, I found this at my local Barnes and Nobles for cover price, would this be a good starting point for someone who wants to learn more about Wonder Woman?
It's a great story, but I think there are better jumping on points like Rucka, Azzarello and Perez' run.
Got my copy but haven't taken it out of the shrinkwrap. Thanks for the overview. Might have to pick up the Wonder Woman Conan book although I wouldve preferred if it had been an elseworlds style story with a Hyborian Age version of Diana and Themiscyra.

The Gail Simone, Greg Rucka, and George Perez runs are the definitive runs for how to make Wonder Woman work. DC really should be using these three for Gal Gadot’s trilogy

I was all set to buy this prior to her twitter melt down. I cant support grown people acting like children on social media.
Perez, Byrne, Rucka and others will have to satiate my wonder woman fix.

Quit attacking the fans, make quality products and hold yourself accountable for when something fails. Only then will I consider supporting her.
Joseph L if you’re going to be that much of a snowflake, guess Rucka can’t satiate your needs because of his twitter feed and political affiliations. Separate the work from the creator, in some rare, exceptions you can’t. But it you’re going to be childish cause the creator is being childish, you’re no better.
@@paulylopes6762 I dont care about political affiliations to be perfecty honest. I just don't approve of childish outbursts and insulting commentary because some bad movie didnt perform well. I have yet to see Rucka do this. And when or if I do I'll reconsider my financial support of his work. As it stands however, I just bought the gotham central omni and I'm super excited to read it.
Authors should hold themselves to a higher standard and act like the heros they write for. I don't see wonder woman having a Twitter meltdown or insulting her fans. Gail should have behaved more professionally.
I am kind of in the same boat. I was really looking forward to this until she attacked the fans, so now I don’t know. I’m not not particularly concerned with her (or anyone’s) politics, but attacking your fan base is just bad form.
It’s funny because usually when I waffle on getting or not getting an Omni, it’s almost always due to price and/or contents. This is new to me.
Man, Gail and her run are contreversial. My JLI omnibus volume 2 overview is going to be interesting.
Couldn't pay me to look at anything Gail Simone at this point.
