    Great review. I feel kind of the same as you. This definately isn't my favorite run or even one I'm excited for. However, since I would like a full WW omni run i picked it up, PLUS i have a feeling if no one picked up these, we'd NEVER see the ones we ACTUALLY cared about.

    I am a fan of all things Wonder Woman, good, bad, & ugly! So I had this on my wish list as soon as I saw it. The spine is gorgeous and stands out amongst the other DC omnibus on the shelf. I agree that they should put out a Messner-Loebs Om nibus.

    I had never read a WW story before this omnibus so I was a little nervous as to whether I'd like it but imho I think it's an ok start for new readers. It's rich in Greek mythos and very info heavy in a way that makes you feel like you really learned something. While reading it I was noticing names of characters in other DC media that I wouldn't have beforehand, which then made it even more enjoyable. Sometimes a little wordy and it felt like each page had a new layout for panels but all in all I loved it.

    Not a huge fan of Jimenez' run but I'm such a WW fanboy I might have to pick this up. I've read the run before and it was generally enjoyable. Nothing spectacular but it was solid. And I love the artwork. Plus wrap-around cover is definitely is a huge selling point. I still don't know why they didn't give Perez' vol 2 or 3 wrap-arounds. Trinity Rebirth vol 2 got a wrap-around....and WW by Perez vol 2 didn't. Come on.

    • @NearMintCondition

    In my opinion the best story in this omnibus is Wonder Woman a day in the life, the one where Lois lane interviews Wonder Woman some fun character highlights and interactions also a rucka omnibus would be great I mean they collected Brian azzarellos run I think it was azerrello ultimate edition which in my opinion was pretty great but he really changed a lot about Wonder Woman for the worse I hate the daughter of Zeus origin it makes her basically little more then a female Hercules that’s boring. I love her old origin, molded from clay brought to life and empowered by a group of goddesses and also Hermes, depending on who’s telling it, anyways azzarello did some cool things especially with the gods but he made Wonder Woman Xena warrior princess and that’s not who she is especially with the god of war stuff, when azarello made her god of war (good thing rebirth abandoned that) its a cool concept but maybe for an elseworlds book not wondys main continuity ) anyways after that a lot of other writers floundered writing her, she’s a warrior by nurture but a pacifist in nature always ready for battle but never relishing in it. Also rebirth tried to course correct she was still granted power by the gods but it’s unclear if she’s still daughter did Zeus or molded from clay and James Robinson did not help matters when he went through with the twin brother storyline it muddles things more.

    • @NearMintCondition
      @NearMintCondition  5 лет назад +2

      Oh Robinson breaks my heart from time to time. I expect everything to be as good as Starman. I think I enjoy Rebirth for the pure reason that we get a mix of the great origins of WW all thrown in one big story. I would love a Rucka omni pre IC. That's one of my must titles to get omni. Love the Avatar BTW.

      the Hatefulcritic34
      I loved this explanation, because it’s also how I feel as a new reader to Wonder Woman. I personally didn’t like Brian’s because once you change her origin, you change everything about her. When I learned which was made from clay, I felt Brian’s Wonder Woman origin was disrespectful and I don’t want yet ANOTHER child of Zeus because it’s boring and predictable.

    I think Jimenez isn't the best writer but his artwork is fantastic and his love for Wonder Woman and all her supporting characters shine through here. I think the only WW collection by Messner-Loebs in the "Wonder Woman by Mike Deodato" collection which was released last year (?) which basically collects The Contest and The Challenge of Artemis storylines. I'd like to see DC release some Silver Age omnibii for Wonder Woman and maybe a collection of Eric Luke's time on the book (Godwar and the two Devastation stories).

      JMS' Wonder Woman run is a confusing mess to be honest. The only thing remotely memorable about it is the costume they gave her (black pants and a jacket, which caused quite a stir online at the time). Early George Perez or Greg Rucka runs are the best place for good Wonder Woman stories.

    • @craigmacdonald539
      @craigmacdonald539 5 лет назад +2

      @@iamthomasjudge Rucka's WW run before Pre-Infinite Crisis/Pre-New 52 is better, IMO. DC collected it in two volumes fairly recently so they should be fairly easy to track down if you have a comic shop in the area.Very new reader friendly. Rucka's Rebirth run can be a bit confusing as it consists of four major story arcs that jump back and forth between each other and the first one is pretty non-reader friendly because it assumes you've already read the New 52 stuff.

Not sure if it's worth the cost or not, but the little things matter to the customers and I would have liked the numbering and table of contents.
