    God, Greg Rucka's run was so freaking good. It's one thing to portray Diana as just powerful and badass, but to also manage to show how much of a PRESENCE she has when she's in the room, how much she has grace and mercy and kindness and wisdom. Diana as a super hero but also an ambassador and diplomat was such an irresistible combination, and I loved all the gods in modern clothing, still scheming and being petty and unreliable.

    Wonder Woman is my first & last comic hero, she’s how I started reading comics & I’ve loved her since I was a little kid. I honestly watched this thinking I’d read most everything & to gauge an idea of what Omar saw as the key starting point thinking it would just run from Perez onwards, awesome to see the breadth of her history recognised & even as a long time fan there were titles I missed or collected editions that expand on what I already own. Thanks for such a passionate in-depth overview of the Amazing Amazon! 🙏🏼🤩

    Nice thing about Wonder Woman is that she has several really accessible jumping on points. My favorite is definitely George Perez, that's the GOAT as far as I'm concerned. Second for me is probably Azzarello and Chiang, love that run, it's super easy to get into. Third is Heinberg and Dodson's Who is Wonder Woman story arc, much more continuity heavy but worth it, especially if you like Donna Troy. Although being a Donna Troy fan is like having a doctorate in DC continuity, her personal history has always been a mess, but a wonderful one.

    How come Wonder Woman doesn’t have a lot of iconic comic books like Batman, Superman, or Spider-Man but she is still popular?

    • @hamzadawud
      @hamzadawud Год назад

      Longevity?

    • @HansYuan
      @HansYuan Год назад

      Your question is backwards. Wonder Woman is nowhere near as popular as Superman, Batman and Spider-Man. Those three are the top selling comic books of all time (4 and 5 are X-Men and Captain America). Wonder Woman doesn't even break the top 10. So she has fewer iconic stories and she is also less popular. It's also important to note that "less popular" doesn't mean "not popular". She *is* clearly popular, you just can't compare her to literally the top 3 selling characters. So I would say that Wonder Woman has exactly the number of iconic stories proportional to her own popularity, including Gods & Mortals, The Hiketeia, the New 52 run, among others.

    • @Matthew.E.Kelly.
      @Matthew.E.Kelly. Год назад

      She actually does, there's just a handful of issues with high ROI for investors as compared to Spider-Man (who has *hundreds* of potential investment books & dozens far out of reach for all but the most devoted collectors/investors), Batman (who has scores of both) & Superman (who has dozens of both).
      Really the Silver Age Wonder Woman issues have the highest fair market values, apart from a couple random covers by Peréz & Bolland. We're talking books worth $10,000+ vs. her first appearance, which just sold earlier this year for over $1 million, compared to $100-200 books.
      So, that's the long answer. The short answer is there are tons of high value issues of Wonder Woman, but the best copies of them stay in the hands of investors & portfolio managers 🤷 us working class folks will never be able to afford a $100,000 comic, let alone a comic worth 10x that.
      Hope that answers your question.

    • @Carlos-xz3vi
      @Carlos-xz3vi Год назад

      I’d say is the symbolysm of what she represents. I know women in my family that consume WW merchandise and have not read a comic book in their lives. So even without the iconic comic book stories, WW is still a money generating machine. The old TV series were also pivotal in increasing the popularity of the chracter.
