@Owen Likes Comics Well, all the internet rumors are saying that Batman: Earth One will be a main inspiration for Matt Reeves in his Batman movie, so... Maybe things can change. Also, Vol. 3 of Bman: Earth One is about to come out.
I for one actually like the Earth One Universe but it feels like DC just brushed it off to the side and never went back to it again. Its kinda sad since the stories were very interesting. Also the fact that they didnt really connect each heroes was interesting and kinda disappointing.
I don’t want them to make a Justice League title, considering part of the appeal of Earth One is these characters exist wholly in their own spheres. While I would like the development of a meeting of the characters, I think it should be framed as a crisis instead, and if Earth One were to become an legitimate imprint then have these crises which unite the heroes happen every year or so. That way the characters and stories never get bogged down by continuity the way the Ultimate Marvel universe did. Rather have crossovers never happen, almost never reference events of other books except in these crisis crossovers. That being said yes Earth One definitely should’ve been a priority for DC.
@@giovannimartin3239 what if they Titaned it, shake it up a bit since it has a real world vibe can see the team roster getting twist. Use the alternative JL from the 80s you know Fire, Ice, Martian Manhunter etc etc
I don’t really like it when people try to “modernize” Superman. Most of the time he’s turned into Batman when they’re supposed to represent completely different sides of the everyday American. Batman represents the city kid who grew up with 1 or neither parent and took a very cynical view of the world thinking no one could be trusted but they still worked hard to leave their mark on the world. Superman represents the country boy that grew up with 2 loving parents and he sees the world in a very light way. He thinks that there’s good in everyone and just wants to do his part to help the world.
except earth-one is about clark trying to figure out who he wants to be and finding his place in the world. Its probably one of the best modernizations of superman.
Generic assessment of modernising superman is generic Newsflash superman has been modernised for coming up on 80yrs now.. from Byrne to Moore to the death of superman guys &more.
Yeah this is a misguided interpretation of modernizing Superman. Earth One Superman was still very much Superman but in this case was a kid who was trying to figure himself out and find his place in the world. No different from Byrne (keeping Clark’s parents alive, and emphasizing the Human aspects), Birthright (showcasing a silver/Bronze Age inspired Superman in a post 9/11 world), Smallville or even Morrison’s take on the New 52 (A Golden Age Superman in 2011 )
What does that have to do with him being modernized? There are still orphans who live in cities, and country folk who have two loving parents in todays time. Your comment really makes no sense.
My problem with Earth One (and some of the modern interpretations of Superman)...why does Clark Kent always look so sad? He doesn't smile. Not everyone is sad and dark...and neither should Superman be. Superman isn't shy and unsure of himself. He can be a goofball but he's not a nerd either. He's an average corny guy that likes American human things. He's built like an NFL defensive tackle but once you meet him he's no serious athlete. People assume his build is just a genetic accident and from being raised doing hard work on the farm. Clark might go out to the pub with his pals. Though he cant get drunk, he is amused by their drunken stories and enjoys the company of people! Bring back the Superman I grew up reading and not a reinvention of Bruce Wayne.
I think the point is that he's figuring himself out, learning who he's gonna be, which is very relatable to many people, but with the twist of him being an alien.
I could totally go for a Green Lantern “horror” movie based on Earth One. Green Lantern is all about conquering fear, so I think it’d work pretty well.
As someone who doesn't really like having to follow comics every month or two and would rather read a single story, the format is so appealing to me. It is a pity they didn't dive further in to this; we could have had a different style of comic book story telling, as different as a TV show is to a film.
Hmm I wonder what this Earth One’s designation is post Doomsday Clock...or was this the only Earth to use One rather than 1? 🤔 I like all timelines being back but with so many with the same name it’s gonna get confusing...
@@deadpool3982 think it's still Earth-One the main universe (formally Prime-Earth who was formally New Earth) is now Earth One. It's the little dash that makes the difference.
But in this book my question is : where's all his training for years & travelling all around the world ,in the comics didn't he travel all around the world laerning all the martial arts + training with Raas Al Ghoul, becoming the best of the best both PHYSICALLY & TECHNICALLY ?!!! He even travelled & mastered FLYING before , bruce didn't just throw himself to batman directly ! he travelled ,became a *freak of nature* then came back to become the batman , ...... Where's all his preparations ? ?... In this one he is just Reckless & unprepared .... this one is not faithful to batman's true core and mindset... though it's nice.
@@goodson91 Well, in the comics he didn't train with Ra's. He trained with Henri Ducard, but it's in Batman Begins that they combined the two characters. The fact that he didn't trained around the world before becoming Batman is a little bit disarming at first, but I find Earth One is the place to put this idea to the test. It makes him a little more brave to go without ninja training (and more crazy). I find it's like a modernized and a darker version of Adam West's Batman, and what Batman was before every writer turned him into the best ninja and best detective of all time.
Well Batman is obviously a Billionair in the story it's just that he isn't an impossibly skilled fighter/detective/ninja and his tech is much more grounded in reality.
The books take forever to come out and DC forgets about it, they have so much potential and they have genuinely good stories. They have actually good rewrites of a characters, like making Hal an astronaut and making Batman a lousy billionaire with no training.
Earth one I thought was a good idea but unfortunately like you said dc comics wasted earth one potential and that’s just sad because it could’ve been worked and been really interesting to see more earth one versions of these characters.
Tevya Smolka Earth One Green Arrow for instance. I would love it if the writers used it to explore the PTSD that Oliver could have gotten from his time on the Island like Arrow did.
@@Christ2010Grad i can agree with that or heck i would really love a earth one version of wally west as the flash or maybe a earth one version of the super sons with both Damian wayne robin and Jonathan Samuel Kent superboy that would be really fun and awesome in my opinion.
Johns had finished the next volume many years ago, it went on hiatus for artist Gary Frank who was 2/3rds done with the book before getting brought in for Doomsday Clock. He first showed off work from it in July 2015, two months after the release of volume 2. That had a two year delay, this one will be at least 3.
My thoughts on the Earth One books and the Ultimates as well: When you want to tell stories about "new and fresh" versions of characters that are "unencumbered by continuity", such stories can never hope to last very long. There's a flaw with the very concept. Once you start telling more stories about these characters, they are no longer "new and fresh" and suddenly they become encumbered by continuity. Even if the Ultimates universe wasn't destroyed, it would be hard to tell stories set in that universe anymore because there's so much that new readers would have to be caught up on (Reed Richards is the Maker, Peter Parker is dead, Spiderwoman is a female clone of Peter Parker, lots of major characters are dead, etc). The Ultimates universe could never continue because it has collapsed under its own continuity, the very thing that it was created not to have. Even if the Earth One books were able to be continued, they would soon run into the same problem. And even the new 52, which sort of tried to do the same thing, has ultimately failed, leading to the new 52 Superman being replaced by (a version of ) the previous Superman, and "everything is true" so that all of the new 52 stuff can be ignored when desired. It's always easy to write the "first" Superman story. Or the "first" Batman story. Or the "first" Green Lantern story. But you can't sustain "first" stories forever. Yes, you can do the "first" Lex Luthor story and then the "first" Brainiac story, but eventually, continuity will catch up with you. And you'll have to start over again, and do ANOTHER "first" Superman, and then ANOTHER "first" Superman, and on and on forever and ever without end. It's just so pointless.
That’s so true. That’s why I prefer stories with the start and the end. Like invincible. Like fables. Continuity really kills the joy. Sad that ultimate died though.
All Star Superman was campy and a huge epic. Imagine that treatment to the other classic heroes. All Star Superman somehow manage to show me a weird huge world with the interviews in Poseidonis, Quantum in the moon, Dinosaur Men from the dephs, The Fortress, The Supermen of The Future. It was laid out in a so natural way, with the dialogue and visual ques. Amazing.
I honestly LOVE Batman earth one. Both volumes blew me away and I’m really looking forward to the next one. I love what they did with Bruce and Alfred’s relationship and I love the new interpretations of the villains. I think the story is doing a good job of actually progressing with every volume too. Nothing ever stays the same and the characters actually grow and change. Oh and people actually die and don’t have to come back because of other comic book runs needed the characters. The art has been amazing as well. I hope they keep the book standalone and never cross over into the other earth one books because this series is so good on its own. Also, I’m always looking for a great riddler story and volume 2 of earth one finally gave me one. I LOVED what they did with the riddler. He’s never been so scary in my opinion. Anyway, good video.
actually MOS is based on a bunch of Superman stories, including this. But my man Zack Snyder really can't help himself but to "reinterpret" Superman in a modern society when this book clearly excelled it.

I would love to see DC do a proper Ultimate universe keep the graphic novel format they've done with Earth One but do one volume for each of their titles yearly and this universe would need the hottest creators working on it right now in order to succeed (all of which are at Marvel), Like imagine: Donny Cates = Batman, + Justice League Chip Zdarsky = Superman + Flash Kelly Thompson = Wonder Woman + Aquaman Al Ewing = Green Lantern(give usJOHN STEWART), and Martian Manhunter and begin from there, maybe even start this universe in the late 40's after world war 2 with the baby boom and go through the 50s and 60s in order to differentiate it from the regular universe.

I must say, as a Wonder Woman fan, I really loved Wonder Woman Earth One. I appreciated how Morrison and Paquette bring back the strangeness, for modern eyes, of Diana's first stories with a updated sensibility.
I really liked Superman Earth One when it first came out while I was in high school. If it had stuck to some sort of consistent schedule, I would've loved that. Didn't read the Wonder Woman or Green Lantern ones but Superman and Teen Titans were my favorites of the Earth One stuff I did read (don't remember Batman much but I own it and read it at some point).
The irony of seeing this video back when it premiered then seeing Earth-One GL vol 2 dropped shortly after. Wouldn't worry who could've predict that besides the video is still full of entertaining info. Also weird to think but anyone notice that the Earth-One stories pair well with Immortal Hulk when you're in that kind of reading mood. Same way NEW52 Superman pairs well with Ultimate Spider-Man.
I feel if superman earth one got made into a animated film series for the villains i could see sam Witwer for Tyrell nathan kress for parasite david kaye for general zod and Lily rabe for lex luthor
Very interesting! The varied release schedule and relatively small number of books always made me think the Earth One line was some sort of experiment or minor project on DC's part. I had no idea it started out as DC's attempt to create their own Ultimate-style line of books.
I think ongoing earth 1 titles would have been cool. It would have been like pre crisis dc with earth one and two running alongside each other. Missed opportunity.
The failure of the earth one books comes down to the writers. JMS doesn’t get the character of Superman; as his “grounded” storyline in the main Superman title demonstrated at the time. Plus, since we’ve now had the new 52, the only real difference that the earth one books offers is its graphic novel format.
Fernando Giubilei you’re right. The new 52 was a mess to follow outside of Synder’s Batman, because as Owen mentioned in a previous video, The relaunch had NO preemptive planning put into it at all. But the issue was that it was marketed as fresh start and new reader friendly, just like the earth one books. So the comparison between the two initiatives is unavoidable because they serve the same purpose, and only differ in execution and format( single monthly issues series that cross over with each other vs character orientated graphic novels that seem to be stand alone despite taking place in same “universe”).
I loved both the Earth One Superman and Batman first volumes. But after a while I honestly thought they were stand alone books despite Vol. 1 being written on the cover. It’s only after seeing the second volumes years later that I realized it’s indeed meant to be an actual series.
@@poopjeans1135 I'm not asking for super realism in comics but this series does bring in that element with good well defined characters that have deep motives and back story like Bruce and Alfred. Alfred sees the world as an unforgiving place while Bruce is enveloped by rage and wants to do everything on his own and he learns and grows by the end of the first volume.
I’ve read all the Earth One books and I’ve viewed it as some of the best DC has done. I’d put GL as the best with Batman and Superman interchangeable for 2nd and 3rd with the same being for TT and WW for the 3rd and 4th. DC really should be doing more with Earth One
@@BucketThinkTank14657Nerd I like the idea of Hal being astronaut but for Movie they should retain some of the story arcs from main Universe. Basically a mesh of these two would be great if they ever make love action green lantern again.
@@gabbar51ngh I think that's the best way to do it honestly. Air Force to NASA makes sense I think Hal can still meet Abin Sur, the question is where do we go from there in terms of story? The Manhunters are the best choice still you could still use the idea of the corp being in dissaray because of them, which is why in the current DCCU there isn't an Earth Lantern, it's Abin and he's been keeping the Manhunters away from Earth.
@@BucketThinkTank14657Nerd we can use that. Rather than corps being completely destroyed let's say they are in extremely fewer numbers now & most don't know how to rebuild it. Abin Sur in his attempt to rebuild it gets wounded & ring goes to Hal Jordan where Abin Sur puts the responsibility of rebuilding the corps on to him while giving exposition to what Green Lantern is before he dies. As for villain I would say it could be Atrocitus who killed Abin Sur & Later took control of Manhunters & turned them against Green Lanterns. Attacking them as he holds guardians responsible for the destruction of his people. Hal not only gathers the rest of the Lanterns to rebuild the corps but ends up defeating Manhunters & Atrocitus. Atrocitus gets arrested but he mentions the prophecy here & saying how Hal is part of it or a catalyst to it & it's inevitable. This also gives a reason to Atrocitus to make a Lantern corps of his own when he gets freed. Leading to red Lanterns while Manhunters might not be completely Destroyed, we can later introduced hank Henshaw who takes over Manhunters & upgrades them. From this point we can easily transition into main Universe storytelling of Geoff Johns style like Sinestro working alongside Hal but later creating yellow Lantern corps and Carol Ferris later becoming star sapphire. Once established we can easily introduce other Lanterns like guy gardener, John Stewart or Jessica cruz.
I really loved Superman Earth One Volume One. It is one of the best Superman stories I have ever read. I loved the interaction between Clark and his parents and the overall storyline was awesome. I still prefer such stories as "All-Star Superman" and "Whatever happened Yo The Man of Tomorrow". The latter is my personal favorite., but Superman Earth One was a special book and I wish the Earth One universe could have survived and we could have gotten a crossover event with these heroes interacting with each other.

same. Wish they made the earth 1 books the main continuity after flashpoint instead of the new 52. I even have a timeline for when they could release the books: Superman: Earth 1 Batman: Earth 1 Wonder Woman: Earth 1 Green Lantern: Earth 1 Flash: Earth 1 Aquaman: Earth 1 Justice League: Earth 1 Teen Titans: Earth 1 Elseworlds (not titled earth 1 because it has out of continuity stories) Constantine: Earth 1 Martian Manhunter: Earth 1 Young justice: Earth 1 Then they could release animated series that directly adapt these books (with very minor changes). And the dceu would be mainly based on them aswell.
I can't remember which volume it was, but that drug addicted guy who KNEW Clark was Superman, the panel when he dies and he and Lois go into his apartment with Superman homages everywhere and SAVE ME written on the wall....first time I've ever cried reading a comic book....fucking love Earth One Superman.
I feel like DC is doing this sort of thing with Black Label now. I also read an interview where Frank said he had resumed working on Earth One Batman, and Morrison is going to finish Earth One after his GL run concludes.

"IGN didn't like Earth One: Superman because he was an angsty boy," probably explains why I loved Earth One: Superman lol. But also you nailed it on the head when you talked about the release schedule of the Earth One lineup.
Honestly he’s not actually that angsty, sure he’s not as much of a Boy Scout but he’s still far from the Superman we see in man of steel or other Superman reimaginings. He’s basically just the original Clark with a few character flaws. Trust me, there are a lot more angsty characters than this Clark.
REALLY hope Matt Reeves takes inspiration from Batman Earth One storyline for his film, as what has been revealed about it feels very much in line with what was done here. Also, it would be good to take elements from newer stories, like this, instead of once again taking inspiration from the great Long Halloween, which Nolan already took elements from. Fingers crossed
The fact that they weren't series and only graphic novels was definitely a mistake. Ultimate was successful because it did everything that Earth One did but far more consistently through having their line consist of ongoing series. That means that every issue the reader was brought to light a new interpretation or twist on the mythos, which was part of the appeal for sure was that "what's going to happen?" Factor. Earth One still has that element of surprise with the reinvention of continuity but I feel like they failed in having the reader wait. At the end of Batman Earth One, I was very excited about this universe's Riddler. But then time passed... and I stopped caring and then was reminded that "oh yea, Earth One Universe is still a thing?" If DC were to ever do another Ultimate like line of books (which I would love) they should have it consist of ongoing series
The animated movies perhaps making their own Earth Ones would be interesting. While being new takes and new stories might put people off, it’d be worth exploring and open up to a bigger audience than just as a graphic novel. One thing about the graphic novel format that is good is that a whole storyline is released in one go, avoiding the risk of issues being delayed or simply vanishing from the schedules altogether.
I think them directly adapting (with some minor changes) the volumes into series would be the best. I'm actually surprised this hasn't been done. Instead of all those weird disconnected animated movies, they could've made a unofficial successor to the dcau by making superman, batman, and wonder woman series all based on the earth 1 books.
I loved all three volumes of Superman. I liked the Batman volumes for the most part. I have very mixed feelings about the Wonder Woman and Teen Titans releases. I never knew there was a Green Lantern volume until this video. Gonna track it down now!
I would love an Earth One Legion of Superheroes. You take a reduced line-up (Cosmic Boy, Saturn Girl, Lightning Lad, Phantom Girl, Chameleon Boy, and Triplicate Girl) and have them solve the murder of Chameleon Boy's father, R. J. Brande, before forming the Legion.
Kinda felt If Teen titans earth one got made into an animated series on HBO max for season one i could see for the cast genesis rodriguez for Raven Marcus Scribner for Cyborg Jason ritter for Jericho Molly quinn for Terra and Atticus Shaffer for beast boy
I’ve gotten more enjoyment out of the Earth one books than I’ve gotten upset or disappointed with it’s. I really enjoy Batman and Green Lantern E-1. I’d love to see them expand on it more and write more books. I want a more grounded universe.i LOVE reinventions and darker more realistic takes. I think it’s why I’m drawn to some of Zack Snyder’s work with the characters. Anyway, of course you are right and have some good insights, I think that people would noice it more if they continued to write more for it and bring the characters together,
yeah. Flashpoint was really a missed opportunity. The could've delayed earth 1 superman and batman to come out after flashpoint, then release them instead of the new 52 with consistent schedules. Then release a wonder woman book, then green lantern, flash and aquaman books. Then have them team up with a justice league book. Then release a titans book. Then a elseworlds book for out of continuity, self contained stories. Then constantine and martain manhunter books. And in 2021, release a young justice book. And then you could make dc animated series based on superman, batman, wonder woman, green lantern, flash, aquaman, justice league, teen titans, elseworlds, constantine, martain manhunter and young justice to create synergy between the animated series and books.
I loved all of these series. Particularly Superman, Batman, and Green Lantern. I need parts two of Teen Titans and Wonder Woman as I felt both of those stories only felt partly done. There were shades of Earth One in Man of Steel, as well as bits of Birthright. I really liked what they did with Green Lantern, giving us a Ridley Scott like world to play in. I'd love to finally see a Justice League with these characters. Also GL volume 2 is coming later this year.
Earth One is great, Batman and Superman are great, but Green Lantern, my god that is phenomenal!!! The rest are quite average... My only problem is that they all feel like they're in their own world, with no connections making them feel lonely and in an empty world, however from an artistic stand point I fully understand why they don't want to reference the other characters, having to establish these characters and not wanting to mess with any of the other, or potential titles. Overall I'm always anticipating the next title, but unfortunately I heard the writer of Superman retired from comics so I don't know if they'll want to replace him or discontinue the title, but I am really hoping for a Green Lantern follow up. Great video, good to see an insight into this series that is seeming underappreciated even though I feel this series did what the New 52 couldn't, reinvent the characters for a modern audience, though I'm not saying this should have been the prime earth.
Earth One books are still being made, they're just not on the forefront. I guess no one remembers that Green Lantern Earth One and WW vol 2 didn't come out that long ago.
Oh thank u for doing Earth One. I was talking about this for a couple years now. I picked up Earth One Batman vol 1 and 2 for my bday in 2016 nd loved the hell out of them. I never checked out Superman cuz I think its wring to assume Superman has to b dark every time they want a new take on him. I checked out Teen Titans vol 1 nd 2 and was not happy about them. I LOVE WW earth1 both volumes and still have to get GL. I thought the seriese was a great idea. Whole stories out in 1 go, it felt like a much better way of handling it then New 52 & Ultimate.
Superman: Earth One actually has a light color palette and a charming sense of humor. Its just Clarks angsty personality and mannerisms that makes it seem dark.
I will say that despite the six year wait between Batman books, volume three was worth the wait and I hope we get a fourth. It is a shame though Earth One hasn't been able to bring in more characters than it could or connect them all; imagine a Justice League: Earth One.
Honestly, I just wish this is how DC did things throughout. A Prime universe line, Earth One, Earth Two etc. Different, separate continuities in each, based on previous eras, or new iterations entirely, bring them together for the occasional Crisis or whatever (and smaller crossovers too).
Agreed, it was such a huge disappointment that both the Earth One and All-Star lines failed. Because at least All-Star Superman and his Earth One 3 volume series were at least finished somewhat! Whereas the others didn't even finish not too long after their firs volumes came out. Today's generation of comic artists and writers lacked the discipline of deadlines. And completing books which are promised to audiences!
I really wish this had worked out, I think that there were quiet a few things wrong with the execution, but philosophically I'm very invested in more graphic novel releases of mainline characters.
I remember reading both Teen Titans books but not really liking them. And I’m a hardcore Teen Titans fan. Sorry but it just feels strange doing a Titans project without any of the original five in the lineup. I know they eventually tied it into some of them, but it was just off. I think they actually made Aqualad a literal half fish sort character didn’t they?
Or just focusing on them and giving them consistent schedules. Like, forget all that new 52, rebirth whatever's going on crap, and focus on these books and their version of these characters by making them the definitive version.
With the exception of the plotted-on-a-napkin WWE1, I would love an imprint of these. Hell. Release them as 22 page issues, each bimonthly, leap frogging each other for quality purposes. I would buy them. Especially GL and Batman.
I hope he isn't in it, I want Scarecrow personally, I just think Joker is really overdone. Scarecrow could be used as a chemist that was a former addict.
I only read Batman Year One and I thought it was great. They really should have made made it an ongoing comic. This young Batman/Bruce Wayne was just great even that look of his designed by Gary Frank had this edgy thing about him. I always thought DC was afraid to do "Ultimate DC" but this is what they should have done!
For some reason a decade ago doesn't sound long when it comes to comics, but it sounds like forever when it comes to comic book movies. Maybe it's just because we've had four different cinematic Spider-Men in just 12 years and two different Batman within just 4 years (and another coming in the next couple years) so it feels like the movies just reboot constantly.
I have enjoyed the Earth One books and am glad that it has persisted, and hope it regains momentum? (Excited that Green Lantern 2 and Wonder Woman 3 are in the works, and also Batman 3?) hopefully this picks up and we finally see Aquaman and Flash Earth One books. I also would love to see a continuation of TT and Supes, but Superman 3 was pretty uninspired, especially the Zod part.
I had planned out an entire timeline based on if the earth 1 books were release consistently and the main dc universe: Superman: Earth 1 Batman: Earth 1 Wonder Woman: Earth 1 Green lantern: Earth 1 Flash: Earth 1 Aquaman: Earth 1 Justice league: Earth 1 Teen Titans: Earth 1 Constantine: Earth 1 Martian Manhunter: Earth 1 Young justice: Earth 1 And these would be directly adapted into dc animated series and a new dc animated universe.
It's ashamed if they didn't make this book in the beginning of the new 52 and after DC rebirth instead and also fix the scheduling for when the books are released this could have been there answer to Marvel Ultimate Universe it's a shame they had some good ideas although I'm not sure if some of the Michael j straczynski were a good pick for it like was J Michael straczynski a really good choice to write a Superman book same thing goes for Grant Morrison's Wonder Woman
I'm kinda sad. I was excited to see what else they would've done with earth one. I would've loved to of seen a justice league earth one or a world's finest earth one.

Batman is a billionaire not an everyday kid

Could adapt earth 1 to one series type Smallville
As someone who doesn't really like having to follow comics every month or two and would rather read a single story, the format is so appealing to me. It is a pity they didn't dive further in to this; we could have had a different style of comic book story telling, as different as a TV show is to a film.
Yeah, its very sequential and easy to follow.
It’s been years and I’m still waiting on Batman: Earth One, Volume 3. Dammit, Doomsday Clock!
Hmm I wonder what this Earth One’s designation is post Doomsday Clock...or was this the only Earth to use One rather than 1? 🤔

@@deadpool3982 think it's still Earth-One the main universe (formally Prime-Earth who was formally New Earth) is now Earth One. It's the little dash that makes the difference.

But in this book my question is :
where's all his training for years & travelling all around the world ,in the comics didn't he travel all around the world laerning all the martial arts + training with Raas Al Ghoul, becoming the best of the best both PHYSICALLY & TECHNICALLY ?!!!
I love that idea of a blue collar Batman that still is some how a billionaire, brilliant.
Well Batman is obviously a Billionair in the story it's just that he isn't an impossibly skilled fighter/detective/ninja and his tech is much more grounded in reality.

Or how about western comic books taking inspiration from manga by having a story that have a beginning, middle and *conclusion*
It’s not pointless if you get good stories and new readers out of it

I would love to see DC do a proper Ultimate universe keep the graphic novel format they've done with Earth One but do one volume for each of their titles yearly and this universe would need the hottest creators working on it right now in order to succeed (all of which are at Marvel), Like imagine:
Donny Cates = Batman, + Justice League
Chip Zdarsky = Superman + Flash
Kelly Thompson = Wonder Woman + Aquaman
Al Ewing = Green Lantern(give usJOHN STEWART), and Martian Manhunter

Very interesting! The varied release schedule and relatively small number of books always made me think the Earth One line was some sort of experiment or minor project on DC's part. I had no idea it started out as DC's attempt to create their own Ultimate-style line of books.
I think ongoing earth 1 titles would have been cool. It would have been like pre crisis dc with earth one and two running alongside each other. Missed opportunity.
I actually own a pre-release review copy of Superman Earth 1 in TPB. I found it at a used bookstore for the grand sum of $1.
Earth-1 is among the things abandoned next to the All Star series.
The failure of the earth one books comes down to the writers. JMS doesn’t get the character of Superman; as his “grounded” storyline in the main Superman title demonstrated at the time.
Plus, since we’ve now had the new 52, the only real difference that the earth one books offers is its graphic novel format.
In what way is new 52 like Earth One? N52 is not nearly as easy to follow or a fresh start

Holy fuck batman earth one sounds so close to the new batman movie
But then time passed... and I stopped caring and then was reminded that "oh yea, Earth One Universe is still a thing?"
If DC were to ever do another Ultimate like line of books (which I would love) they should have it consist of ongoing series
or give it a consistent release date, but with the volume format.
Ummm I sort of just think Earth one is kinda great?
Green lantern, batman, teen titans, Wonder Woman and superman earth one r great.

I do know, and I'm still looking forward to get them, are there any new titles in development?
Oh thank u for doing Earth One. I was talking about this for a couple years now. I picked up Earth One Batman vol 1 and 2 for my bday in 2016 nd loved the hell out of them.

My personal love for the Superman Earth One comics brought me to this video
batman earth1 is my 1st batman gn. glad doomsday clock used the same writer artist team.
Batman Earth 1 Vol 1 and 2 are awesome. Still noodling on to hope that Vol 3 might release someday.
Earth One would be great if they’d cross the books over. Get us a Justice League Earth One using these alternate versions of the characters.
Or just focusing on them and giving them consistent schedules. Like, forget all that new 52, rebirth whatever's going on crap, and focus on these books and their version of these characters by making them the definitive version.
Three Jokers is gonna be sooo good
And sadly Geoff Johns thought it was more important to give us crap like Doomsday Clock and Three Jokers instead of Batman: Earth One Vol. 3
With the exception of the plotted-on-a-napkin WWE1, I would love an imprint of these. Hell. Release them as 22 page issues, each bimonthly, leap frogging each other for quality purposes. I would buy them. Especially GL and Batman.
Isn't there going to be a Joker in Batman: Earth 1 Vol 3
Lets hope so
It seems the villain is more likely to be Two Face or maybe Catwoman
@@ItsButterBean1020 Female Two-Face being precise
Even though Catwoman was teased in the end of vol 2 but I think it's very likely Jessica Dent (aka female Two Face) will be the villain
I hope he isn't in it, I want Scarecrow personally, I just think Joker is really overdone. Scarecrow could be used as a chemist that was a former addict.
I feel J. Michael strazinskys talents have declined in recent years and I find it most evident in his spider-man run and in superman earth one.
If DC decides to really bring Earth One back, it would still be an awesome universe to explore
I knew there was supposed to be a Flash: Earth One but I didn't know it was supposed to be by JMS. Now I'm sad that we haven't gotten it.
They can use the green lantern story in the new green lantern movie, whenever web decides to work on it.
I do agree that it needs some work, but I liked some earth one titles and I want a superman vol. 4 to wrap up his story.
I have a question for you Owen likes comics do you think the new 52 was sort of dc's answer to Marvel's Ultimate Universe or was that Heroes Reborn
i am so sad that this series never picked up steam, i would have loved to see the eventual Justice League Earth One
I just read the Earth One Batman/Superman and it reminded me of the Ultimate Universe from Marvel but I’m so Bummed out that it’s Gone forever
I had planned out an entire timeline based on if the earth 1 books were release consistently and the main dc universe:
Superman: Earth 1
Batman: Earth 1
Wonder Woman: Earth 1
Green lantern: Earth 1
Flash: Earth 1
Aquaman: Earth 1
Justice league: Earth 1
Teen Titans: Earth 1
Constantine: Earth 1
Martian Manhunter: Earth 1
Young justice: Earth 1
And these would be directly adapted into dc animated series and a new dc animated universe.
Batman earth one was pretty good but its release schedule kinda screwed it from the start. That and the new 52.
I'm kinda sad. I was excited to see what else they would've done with earth one. I would've loved to of seen a justice league earth one or a world's finest earth one.
When I saw Man of Steel in 2013, i said to my friend in the theater when the world engines were introduced and were deployed around the world- “big earth one vibes”
