Please continue to do overviews of these Classic DC comic Omnis as they come out. These historical comics are a joy to read for me personally.

I for one love Bronze Silver & Golden Age because it’s like time traveling to a bygone era of comic history before my time. The white margin at the bottom preserves the original format as well as making the book look good on the shelf with the other omnis

The DC Classic Omnibus line is back and
running! The Phantom Stranger: The Bronze
Age Omnibus, Vol. 1 will be released in August,
The 10th and final volume of Golden Age
Batman in September, both Vol. 2 of Silver
Age Wonder Woman and Vol. 5 of Golden
Age Wonder Woman in October and the
1st volume of Silver Age Superman in
December! Now, here are my predictions
for the releases of the classic omnibuses
for early next year: the 3rd and final volume
of Silver Age World's Finest with Superman
and Batman in January, the 2nd volume of
Silver Age Batman in February, the 1st volume
of Silver Age Atom in March, the 1st volume
of Silver Age Aquaman in April, and that's all I
can forecast for next year! Thanks!

It's possible that Tec 233 might have been an "inventory issue" that was made earlier than Batman 101. I'm not aware of any sort of editorial mandate similar to the New Look in Tec 327 that would explain the major difference in style. Looking at the issues of Tec and Batman leading up to this could shed some light on it, although I'm not sure those have ever had a modern-day reprint seeing that The Golden Age Omnibus Vol 10 isn't out yet.
I will say that reading Batman 163 and Tec 327 back to back is a surreal experience. The only other comparison I can think of is Captain America 109 and Captain America 110 going from Kirby to Steranko, but even that doesn't quite do it justice since Kirby was already pretty good, whereas Chic Stone doing his best Sheldon Moldoff impression was a night and day difference from Carmine Infantino.
I would be surprised to see any Neal Adams work in the Silver Age line. His first issues of Batman were Tec 395 and Batman 219. I would think the Silver Age line would end with Tec 393 and Batman 216, right before Robin goes off to college. That's typically the cutoff between the New Look Era and the Bronze Age when it comes to Batman.

Me three! I have vols 1-5 but missed the window to buy those later volumes because it was so short. They came out and almost immediately were sold out. What, did DC only print a few hundred of them? Yes, please reprint, DC!

Great overview! Informative and entertaining, presented with sincere love for the material. I too am a tremendous fan of the Adam West BATMAN so hae been enjoying the Golden Age reprints and now the Silver Age. The transition is blurry to me, more an arbitrary date, though you made a compelling case by noting the shift in tone. No mention of Batman's concurrent adventures in World's Finest? Those were in the Golden Age omnibi but broke out into their own when Batman and Superman were appearing together in stories. Those are awesome fun as well. I thoroughly enjoyed this overview--please do more of 'em!

Thanks for the feedback! I appreciate that! And yes! World’s Finest deserves mention when talking about this era of Batman!
And sadly, my time with doing reviews for OPB is coming to an end! But, you can be sure to find me in other places!

This video is better than the previous Batman SA 1 you guys did.
Sadly DC sucks and is cancelling classic omnis. It's a waste of time to start collecting any of their lines. Eventually they will abandon any format.

    • @g.p.ryecroft
      @g.p.ryecroft Год назад +1

Danny, please don't be cynical, but I do fear you're right. The SA Wonder Woman appears to have flopped since it's being sold at cut-rate prices. If this SA Batman doesn't catch fire I am afraid DC will just abandon both as orphaned one-volume wonders.

I prefer older comics. I love how wordy they are.
Newer comics I can read one in 5 minutes. The older stuff I can savor and take it all in, plus I think the older artists are superior.
