    My favorite DC Omnibus is the Doom Patrol Omnibus by Grant Morrison. Easily in my top ten favorite comic books of all time and really was Morrison at his best. It's one of the reasons why I've loved the TV show as it very much borrows from his run.

    I'm actually reading Aquaman now (not generally an Aquaman fan) and I have to say that it's pretty damn amazing. "Pleasantly surprised" sounds about right. I just ordered the Perez omni yesterday. Crazily enough for a comics fan, I've never read WW outside of JLA/JSA stuff. Looking forward to it.

    Cool list. You got me interested in that Batgirl omnibus. I’d add Swamp Thing New 52 Omnibus, and Geoff John’s Flash vol 1 and vol 2 Omnibus. RIP George Perez.

    Amazing list!!, and this time you haven’t cost me money!! (Last time I had to buy Infinity Gauntlet Omnibus after your review) but I have most of these books!! and I completely agree with you, the much maligned New 52 runs got me sooooo into DC!!, characters I’d have never have read I gobbled up in monthly comics then in Omnibus format!! My only main addition to your list would be Swamp Thing new 52 omnibus & Justice League Dark (new 52 again!), brilliant work again buddy

    Have to agree with Perez's Wonder Woman omni, I own all 4 volumes and they are great, but the first has the added bonus of his art. The best book I've read recently is The Question omnibus, the writing, art and setting were all my jam, and sent me down a Green Arrow rabbit hole looking for similar stuff.

In addition, I truly appreciate you giving some background information on the books you presented to help your audience decide whether the books will also work for them.

    I am not a big fan of New 52, but there were definitely some interesting introductions - like the different color rings and the Court of Owls. And Geoff Jones definitely made his mark on DC with some of the key DC heroes like Green Lantern, Flash and Aquaman. But I hated the Justice League.
    But I would recommend you to the New Teen Titan omnibus volume 2 - the one that contains Judas Contract -this is like X-Men and the Dark Phoenix sage -the best stories from these 2 teams in serial comics. The rest of the stories might not age well, but you can still enjoy George Perez's art. It also contains one of the few stories that Mr Perez drew and inked himself -not to be missed.
    Another one is the Justice League International omnibus by Keith Giffen and JM DeMatteis with exceptional art by Kevin Maguire, Bart Sears and later Adam Hughes. This seems like inspiration for Marvel's MCU -outrageous humor. It might not be for everyone, but I had a blast with those issues growing up...

    Would you recommend grabbing the Blackest Night omni, in addition to the Geoff Johns Green Lantern ones? I have the 3 GL volumes, but haven’t read them yet. Trying to decide if the Blackest Night tie-ins justify the additional purchase, given that GL Vol 2 has the main series already. I’ve heard the Tomasi Green Lantern Corps stories are good.

    • @TheComicBookTrove
      @TheComicBookTrove  Год назад +1

      It's not really worth it in my opinion unless you really enjoy the event and want absolutely all of it. The Green Lantern Corps issues are good but the rest of what's in there really isn't necessary reading.

    I’m trying to get into comics but it’s all a bit confusing. I want to start a Batman run but I don’t know where to start 😂. I like the look of the Batman omnibus here.

    • @TheComicBookTrove
      @TheComicBookTrove  Год назад +1

      Yeah comics are definitely a bit of a minefield when it comes to knowing where to start reading and figuring out things like what continuity a story might be in and whether it's canon etc... I can definitely recommend Batman The Long Halloween and it's sequel Dark Victory if you're just starting out. They're collected in the Batman by Loeb & Sale Omnibus I showed off here but are available in other formats too, and they were some of the very first Batman comics I read and they helped get me into the hobby as a whole. You don't need any prior reading or knowledge to get into them, it's really a standalone story set early in Batman's career. In terms of Batman I'd also recommend Year One as a great origin story, The Killing Joke, Dark Knight Returns, Hush, and The Court of Owls as some other well regarded, easily accessible stories

      rebirth is a good jumping on point aswell,or if you want to go further back,the new 52,batman had some great runs,but most of the new 52 was meh

    • @Carlos-xz3vi
      @Carlos-xz3vi Год назад

      I second the Sale/Loeb as a Batman jumping on point, specially if you are interested in Batman because of the Nolan movies or even the Burton’s movies. In that Omni you get a very street level type Batman with great detective skills. Imagine if Batman was Sherlock Holmes in the Godfather’s world. After that I’d say the whole Snyder run is easy to read, and have some quirks and twists that make it interesting and worthwhile.

    I‘ve just bought Geoff Johns‘ Green Lantern Omnibus vol. 1, and am concidering buying the second one. I know there is a individual Omnibus for Blackest night. Is everything important collected in Green Lantern vol. 2 for blackest night or is it worth/or important to buy the blackest night Omnibus?

    • @TheComicBookTrove
      @TheComicBookTrove  Год назад +1

      You get the main event and relevant Green Lantern issues in Vol 2 and in my opinion that's enough to enjoy the main story, I didn't have any problems reading it that way anyway. The Blackest Night omnibus is great if you really like the event and want absolutely everything connected to it, but like with most events, you don't really need to read all the crossovers and tie ins to get the main story

    The New 52 Justice League was great art, and some cool stories, but there's some stuff I didn't like, but overall, was good. The JLA run by Morrison was really, really cool, was way better. I wish Morrison had in his run Jim Lee as the artist instead of Howard Porter, imagine that. That would have been pure 90's greatness.
