    I have just finished volume 9 of this run and what an amazing series. The JSA are such amazing characters in this run. They are so well written, so likeable, layered and have so many emotional moments. I nearly cried when Mr Terrific went to church with Dr Midnite and when Hourman 3 sacrificed himself for Rick and Rex Tyler.

    I started collecting heavily a few months ago and I knew who Alan Scott and Jay Garrick were, I knew who Hawkman, Dr. Fate and Stargirl were because of Smallville but I had never read any of their stories. Simply because the series is by Johns I took a chance and bought all three omni's for a great price and midway through Vol 1 I couldn't be happier. Even before Johns took over writing, the introductory issues are fantastic, engaging and made me care about the new characters in which I had no previous knowledge about. I loved that Extant appears again and that he wasn't just a one-and-done after the Zero Hour Crisis crossover.

    I love this run. I started collecting it with the new fat trade that were coming out. They only got up to volume 3, but I searched out all of the old trades and read the est of it. I actually had the collections for the post-Infinite Crisis relaunch before going back and reading the original series. It's definitely up there with Green Lantern as one of my favorite runs, not just of Geoff Johns, but in general.

    I loved this series when it came out. Bought every issue until the very end. The quality of the stories and artwork never wavered unlike most long running series. I sold off my set long ago during one of my many de-cluttering phases but recently found some of the trades at an Ollie's for $5.99. You simply can't go wrong getting this series in any format.

  • @Qwarky

    It's been a long time, but seeing this video and you talk about JSA so passionately inspired me a few years ago to pick up the omnis, but I had so much I wanted to read before and during these books (Starman, everything leading to Infinite Crisis, the IC omni itself, 52 etc), I only now, today, got around to finishing omni Vol. 3. Such an incredible series of stories, wonderful characters, wonderful tone. Geoff Johns ending his run on an issue about Courtney having a birthday. It's such a fun issue, and knowing he wrote Courtney based on his sister who he lost, and this way could give her another birthday, with all of the JSA who love her, just made me cry so much.
    Amazing series and an amazing set of books. It really is the best of the best of the best.
    I still want to check out the remaining non-Geoff Johns stuff of the series plus JSA All-Stars, and then there's the new 6 issue series Johns wrote. Looking forward to it! Thank you so much for getting me into all this, Omar.

    I loved JSA! I felt they were more of an underdog type team compared to JLA who were the unbeatable team. Mr. Terrific, Wildcat, Hawkman/Hawkgirl. The stories were so fun to read. I dropped off of the trades after like the 9th or 10th volume. I don't know why DC doesn't make ALL his written material evergreen. Always wanted to get the Omnis but having a volume not available puts me off buying it. I know it's not Geoff Johns related but I'd like for JSA:The Liberty Files to get collected.

    Way back when I first got into comics I waited with baited breath for the yearly JLA/JSA two part crossover. I couldn't believe when I got back into comics in the early 00s that there was a monthly JSA book and it was really good. James Robinson and Geoff Johns brought me back to superhero comics with Starman and JSA.

    I have had my eye on this series and thank you for being thorough on the actual series without going into spoilers. I appreciate you sharing how you came into the series as it becomes a very difficult choice for me to buy into these premium collected editions. I want to have all in oversized format with all the extras and a complete story but for 3 large omnibi, that is a gamble. Really appreciate you setting the stage for this series as now I am going to go for these on my wishlist.
    One more thing. Would you think that once the eventual reprint of vol 2 (JSA rumored to appear in Black Adam, and they are honestly going to show up eventually now that Stargirl is a thing) would it be worth it to wait? Mainly as to know if there are issues with the current prints of these books as I have seen newer omnibi prints improve on the binding and design (like the New Teent Titans omnibi, which I love the design all araound).

I also love Omnis but I gotta admit I actually passed on these because I felt they were simply just too big and unwieldy. Luckily a local store had a used, not so great condition, which I would normally turn away, BUT I ended up getting it for only 30 bucks (caught it during a sale)! It's just a reading copy until I happen to find a better one. This series made me love the JSA more than the Justice League. These are some of the best superhero comics you can read. I really became a fan of Mr. Terrific. Would love to see a Terrific and Batman crossover mini-series, (get Johns and Van Sciver on it). And Johnny Sorrow is one of the best unknown villains ever. They have been re-releasing the whole series in deluxe trade paperback so I've been taking that route in order to read the entire run but it's been a slow process. Vol. 4 is suppose to come out this October but both vols. 3 & 4 don't fully cover the 2nd Omnibus length. I think vol. 4 ends at issue 45. @@NearMintCondition what happened??? Did they find more books in a warehouse or something? It doesn’t seem like a stealth reprint because only some places have “new” copies but places say like Amazon don’t. Sadly I’m low on funds, but I bought vol 2 from CGN even though I don’t have vol 1 or 3 lol... I can get those later since they don’t go for as crazy prices as vol 2, and I’m not missing out since last time I checked vol 2 was $600 on eBay

    I just paused the video and opened comixology app thankfully volume 1 was "free" to read with (comixology unlimited) but strangely it was 376 pages and collects JSA secret files #1 and JSA 1-15 so less material I think 😔

    I'm 300 pages into volume 1, Geoff Johns has not joined yet. I'm finding it a little confusing just because there are so many characters and so much history. As someone who mostly reads Marvel and so doesn't have an established background with DC, having trouble keeping everything straight. I'm hoping that when I get to the Johns issues it'll start clicking. I mean, the stories are definitely good already, but with sort of an ever-present haze of trying to keep everything organized in my head.

    • @NearMintCondition
      @NearMintCondition  2 года назад +3

      It is at first because some come from the golden age while others were original creations. Once Johns takes over it gets easier to follow.

    Rereading JSA omnis after 12 years since first reading 80% of this run and it makes all the stuff DC produces now look like pile of crap really. I personally love Wally West too much to state these are my most favorite of Geoff's books, BUT I have started 3rd omni recently and.... it's really hard to argue with you here. That amount of characters and deepness to each of them... damn, it might be his best book after all in perspective. Planning on doing my own video in russian soon, funny that you got there first. Maybe the global situation speaks to us tellng, that what we really need is to remember our past and more hope in general, and we as readers know that nothing gives more of those than Geoff Johns comics.
