Yeah, you called me out. I had that Psylocke poster on my wall. This is why I love you, brother. You don't hold back!
A great top 10 list, with some great talent. Can we get a top 20 writers sequel?
Yes sir!
My list------>

And I have a feeling that Bill Sienkiewicz will also join this list after I’ve got round to reading New Mutants.
Love Staples artwork
Great list.
Great list man! Frank Quietly is a hit or miss artist for me.

“No bubbles were gonna stand in between me and Rouge .” Spoken by a true man
Oh yeah!
Actually was waiting all week for this.
Now I know what type of woman you like, very interesting 😂
I'll save him and say the type he likes is his wife lol
For me Jim lee is definitely my most favorite artist. How about a top 20 writers list?
That would be awesome!
Jim Lee being your favorite artist, that speaks volumes.

That Marc Silvestri "Fever Dream" cover was truly iconic. While he would not be number one my list, Silvestri is a master illustrator.
Amen, dear Omar! 90s X-Men? That's my Golden Age of Comic Books :-D
for sure.
Great list. Something about Byrne’s art that gives the characters life. His run on X-MEN, and their clashes with the Hellfire Club was true comic book greatness.
Absolutely they are.
John Byrne is and always has been my favorite artist--not my favorite person, exactly, but definitely my favorite comic book artist. I met him in 1981, yep, I'm THAT old, at a local comic shop here in Chicago, and he drew a sketch of a rampaging Hulk for me which I cherish til this day. In one format or another, I pretty much own everything he's drawn, including his early Charlton stuff like Space 1999 and Emergency. Love his Next Men, too.
I concur. Have you seen this video here on him. ruclips.net/video/UM0weL1062M/видео.html
@@jmv1969 I had seen that. Thanks for reminding me of it. He gives a good interview and you can tell how much he truly loves comics. He doesn't do it here, but, usually, if given a chance, he'll toss some smack at Chris Claremont just to do it, and I truly find that to be unprofessional and distasteful. That's one of the things that, though I absolutely love his work, makes him not exactly one of my favorite people in the world of comics creators. Thanks again.
My favorite top 10 comic book artist are,...
1)Mike Zeck( Secret Wars comic series 1984) I liked the way he drew Captain America.
2) George Perez ( 80s Marvel Universe series)
3) John Buscema -His Hulk looked very menacing; the angry eyes.
4) Sal Buscema ( both bros. had a similar style, hard to tell apart)
5) Jack Kirby -Only cause he drew some of the first marvel characters beginning in the 60s. I wasn't too impressed by his blocky style. But he is a class act.
6) John Byrne- I liked the way he drew Alpha Flight and the X men.
7) Mike Ploog- I liked the way he drew Werewolf by Night.
8) Frank Miller- Liked the way he drew Wolverine. He made the mutant with attitude look very scary.
9) Jim lee- Liked the way he drew Wonder Woman and Batman. I liked the way he made the caped Crusaders cape flow. I think Jim is a bit over rated but I still Like him.
10) Steve Ditko- He helped to create Spiderman plus I liked his design of the wall crawler's costume.
Aw, you missed my top 2 favorites... Alan Davis and Barry Windsor-Smith.
Still, solid list!
My bad, this list was hard.
Nice list Omar, Im surprised you never mentioned Greg Capullo, his art for Batman is amazing.

Great list!
@@NearMintCondition How about a greatest cover artist list?
Let's go! Bro I'm still waiting for my Astonishing X-Men Omnibus to arrive 😭😤
Glad to see J.H. Williams make the top 3. The guy is simply incredible. Promethea is the most beautiful comic book I've ever read. You could take out pretty much any two page spread and frame it on your wall. Don't think anybody else could've drawn that series.
He really is amazing.
Hey Omar, glad you included the panel from the X-Force issue Mignola did. I'm reading the X-Force Epic collection and was pleasantly surprised to see his art in that issue!
1. Carl Barks
2. Jean Giraud
3. Albert Uderzo
4. Will Eisner
5. J. H. Williams III
6. Alain Dodier
Your list is amazing! I love that Carl Barks is first.

I really think I should have done the top 100. :)
@@NearMintCondition speaking of that you should do best comic writers or Best Comic Eras or Best Comic Runs
I love Alex Ross art. Most of the time lots of hyper realistic comics would overshadow the comic book . But Ross just makes it work. His art also gives a connection and focus to the characters and story that really deepens the connection to me.
Thanks for giving us YOUR TOP 20 I injoy ed the video 📹.
Thank you
@@NearMintCondition Keep up the good work 👏 🙌.
Agreed on Silvestri topping Jim Lee. Same top 2 for me!
....finally, thanks a lot Omar!
You are welcome!
Love u r channel btw
Have to agree. Silvestri is the best. I have some of his art up on my wall and I love his stuff.
Great list! David Finch is my all time favorite artist. Guy has ridiculous talent and makes it look easy.
Should have done top 50 lol. Your honorable mention list was solid and nice to hear Paul Smith because people forget him I'd also add Jim Steranko, Steve Dillon, Michael Golden, Mark Buckingham and Jeff Smith
Great show Omar. They are some great artists. Many artists are also blessed with great inkers and colorists, people that can take good line work and make it spectacular. Thanks again. Have a great day and stay safe everyone.
I think I need to make a list of inkers too.
Not a shock at all Marc Silvestri is amazing. I was getting nervous he wasn't going to make the list, I was really happy to see him at #1.
My brother, you know you been here for a while. He is the BEST. :) I want to get him to sketch me a picture of Guts.
I haven't read too many comics so I couldn't just pick and chose 10 artists from only comics so I will name artists from different spectrums including manga, webtoon and comics. Here you go my top favourite artists ranked based on how much I adore their art work
1. kakizaki Masasumi
2.Inio Asano

Jim Lee
Darick Robertson
Leonardo Manco
J.G. Jones
Frank Quitely
Gabriele Dell'Otto
Jerome Opena
Great list.
I’m shocked and happy to see Marc Silvestri as your no. 1. I met him a few times back in the day. Out of all the Image co-founders I met, he was the most gracious and humble. Dude signed every book I gave him to sign. Awesome cat. Whilce Portacio was 2nd nicest.
This top 20 was aces, thanks Omar. I’ve been reading a little Marvel for a few years , so I don’t know a lot of these artists, but there are plenty here how look fabulous.
My 80s and onwards was 2000AD, as I live in the UK, and various graphic novels. For me I would include:
Carlos Ezquerra
Carl Critchlow
Simon Bisley
Frank Quietly
Dave Gibbons
Cliff Robinson
Mike McMahon
Brian Bolland
Jason Brashill
Brett Ewins
Henry Flint
Fiona Staples
Sean Murphy
Nick Dragotta
And recently, because of House/Powers of X... R.B. Silva and Pepe Larraz
My all time number one was the legend, Steve Dillon. From the early days of him drawing Judge Dredd, a violent stint at Punisher and his astonishing Preacher. A master.
And a big shout out to all the amazing colourists who make the pages explode!!!
Great list, my brother. Colorist and inkers for sure. I really need to highlight inkers.
I know I'm late to the party. I wanted to mention that if there ever was an artist that who showed me the kind of woman I liked, as you said, John Byrne came in second only to ED BENES.
Otherwise, we jive on many many of these artists. Love your content.
YES!!! I love that Benes Cake!
Yeah it would be weird to see a top 10 list without alex ross, jh williams iii, jim lee and john byrne. They’re in mine for sure.
Absolutely needed for a top 10. :)
lol the story at the end. So cool you got to tell your #1 that they were number one :)
Mignola, Perez, Byrne, the Buscema bros, Cockrum, Windsor Smith, Lee, Simonson... I gotta agree Silvestri is one of the timeless greats. The Silvestri/Hama Wolverine is *definitive* to me, you can pick up Tieri's "Return of Weapon X" and it's damn good, or Claremont/Miller's Wolverine - it's great, it's genre defining. But Larry Hama and Marc Silvestri made *THE* Wolverine story, the art had as much to do with it as the scenarios and dialogue.
It's soooo difficult to pick just a handful from so much talent, though. I might not like Howard Chaykin's writing, but I do like his art. Frank Miller's Elektra and Wolverine stuff is just breathtaking, but I'd rather not comment on his newer (2010s and up) work. Hahahhaa. The art itself is great, but the writing... yikes. Anyway, Todd Nauck, Artgerm, Russel Dauterman, Esad Ribic...!
I always think of issues 48-50 when I think of Silvestri. Return to Weapon X.
@@NearMintCondition *Weapon X Unbound* got read so much in my house I had to buy a new copy! lol
Yep Omar, I agree. Silvestri and Lee were my 1 and two as well. Had the opportunity to meet both at SDCC in the 90's, great guys. Lee, Alpha Flight, Punisher War Journal and then Xmen set the tone for me. Silvestri, Xmen and Wolverine hands down. I had never read an xmen book until I walked into my LCBS in the late 80's and saw XMen 234, the blue and purple wolverine/brood cover and I was hooked. Been an xmen and Silvestri fan ever since.
I would love to see Silvestri do some DC books.
@@NearMintCondition There have been rumors for years he has been working on a batman book. Every once in awhile (last 4-5 years) he posts pictures and drawings on his IG of some pencil work that looks like Gotham City and things related to the DC/Batman world, but nothing definitive. Here's to hoping, one day.
1. Neal Adams
2. George Perez
3. Alex Ross
4. John Byrne
5. John Buscema
Great list Omar my list of favorite comic book artists are 15-1. 15. Todd Mcfarlane , 14. Michael Turner , 13. Ethan Van Sciver , 12. Javier Fernandez , 11. Brett Booth , 10. Norman Rampund , 9. Bill Sienkewicz
Marc Silvestri
Charles Vess
Stuart Immonen
Olivier Coipel
Jim Lee
Bernie Wrightson

Your comment about following an artist through their career is why Skottie Young and Mark Brooks are on my list. Their respective art on Human Torch and Marvel Age Spider-Man blew me away as a kid.
what an amazing list.
It’s to hard for a even a top 10 list so I’m gonna do a top 5 5.george Perez 4. John Byrne 3.jason fabok 2.Jim lee 1. Gary frank
Great list.
ah such an excellent top 10, Joe Mad and battle chasers ... I'm still sour about that .
Thank you sir.
Black Magick. Good recommendation. Joy to read it. Niola Scoot. The kind of drawing guiding the view. Guiding it calmly. Reducing the pace.
It is amazing and hopefully will come out of hiatus sometime.
This List is great and I love the passion you have in these Videos.
As a non X-Man guy where should I begin reading when I want to start with Silvestri ? 😄
His Wolverine run is solid. The X-men run he did was during a rough time for our heroes. Oh how about Fall of the Mutants, that's my favorite crossover event.
Near Mint Condition so starting with Fall of Mutants? 😅😁
Great watch!! Recently found your channel and now I am binge watching it. Amazing content!!!
I don't agree with the order of your picks, but I always enjoy these lists from people who are actually knowledgeable and have a diverse taste. Thanks, Omar!
Thank you for still watching.
@@NearMintCondition Of course, I needed to see who your favorite artists are. I respect your taste, mayne.
I would've watch a top 100 list. Here's my top 10. I don't think I have 20 to name.
10. Alex Ross
9. Jeff Smith
8. Sam Kieth
7. George Perez
6. J. H. Williams III
5. Juan Gimenez
4. Mike Mignola
3. Tony S. Daniel

I should have made a top 50!
10 - Greg Capullo
9 - Tim Sale
8 - Jill Thompson
7 - Neil Adams
6 - David Mazzucchelli
5 - Bruce Timm
4 - John Byrne
3 - Jim Lee
2 - Alex Ross
1 - Alan Davis
Great list!
You are now obligated to make the top 20 manga artists and top 20 comic book writers lists.
You got it!
daamn... i was hoping Don Rosa will appear on the list .)
what about Jock or Gabrielle Dell´Otto? :)
Rosa was on my first draft. Man, this list was so hard to make.
Tastes change over time...if I made a top 20 today, it would look different from the one I would have made 10 years ago, even a year ago. Even artists I used to hate, would make my top 20 now. So many of these artists have made an impact on my own art...legends. Thanks for posting. Liked and subscribed.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. You are 100% correct. Taste changes over time. I was in my 30s when I learned to appreciate Jack Kirby.
Man, I would kill for a new Blueberry collection! Please somebody make it happen.
Same here.
Very surprised with number 1 but hey everyone's list will be different and good reasoning. I'd still go Jim first. :D
Honorable mentions or at least ones on my list to add would be Alan Davis, Dave Cockrum, Gary Frank, Ron Lim, Dale Keown, Kevin Maguire, Derek Robertson, John Cassady, Bryan Hitch
Dale Keown man! And Robertson!
Another great episode Omar. It blew me away that Silvestri was your #1. I love Jim Lee's art. JH Williams III,Alex Ross of course but i love Darick Robertson the most 2nd is John Byrne. but i haven't read nearly as much as you. Hope you and your family are well. Much love to you my friend.
Glad you enjoyed it and much love my brother. Hope you are staying healthy and safe.
An under rated artist list would be cool! Give you a chance to shine a light of some more unusual names! Love the vids omar, gives us something to look forward to in lockdown.
Great suggestion!
I loved Esad Ribic’s work on Thor: God of Thunder. Everything looks like an illustration from an old-fashioned fantasy epic. It’s the kind of art that needs to be seen in oversized hardcover, in the same way that some films need to be seen on the biggest screen you can find.
Big fan of his too.
Joe mad has to a giant size X-men with Hickman, that'd be so dope
I'm just gonna add Gary Frank to your Honorable Mentions
Great addition.
Jorge Jimenez is my favorite artist right now hands down and his panels are amazing are you kidding me his art blend so well I'd have to put him in my top five for sure and he isn't even when your list, to each their own
His work on that Superman Annual for Rebirth is what exposed me to him. He deserved the JL title. And he's made the most of it!
My top 10 in no real definitive order except for my number 1!
1. Joe Mad
Jim Lee
Michael Turner
Ed McGuinness
Humberto Ramos
Andy Kubert
Carlos Pacheco
Scottie Young
Fiona Staples
Chris Bachelo
Great list!
What place would you put jack kirby in
25 for sure.
Loved these vids! Great choices, we share a lot of them.
Awesome! Thank you!
Frank millers style is in my top ten but I like yours too!
Just bought aload of Pitt issues from image comics. Anybody like him ? I literally just found him
I was a big fan and Omar loves Dale Keown.
Top10...
*David Finch
*Jerome Opena
*Todd McFarlane
*Jh Williams III
* Alex Ross
*Ivan Reis
*JIm Lee
*Silvestri
* Mignola
*Esad Ribic
Great damn list. Opeña is getting up on my list.
Most of the artists you like are from the 1980s onwards, that seem to eclipse most of the best of the earlier ones. In the 1960/70s, I would include Jack Kirby, who you mentioned, Jim Steranko, Wally Wood, Marie Severin [an underrated female artist who did great stuff on "Dr Strange"], John Romita, Neal Adams, Barry Smith, Mike Ploog, Jim Starlin, Frank Brunner, Craig Russell and Paul Gulacy.
Probably my age.
@@NearMintCondition Probably mine too. You did include Steve Ditko, John Buscema and Berni Wrightson though, who were important artists of the earlier period.
Enjoyed this a lot. Especially on your top 10, which I plan to re-watch with pen and notepad ready, as there are books mentioned which are in my "to read" stacks. I was a little surprised you didn't include Don Rosa in your top 20, though! Here's my own top 20 in loose order.
Wally Wood
Jack Kirby
Alex Toth
Jaime Hernandez
Richard Corben
Mike Mignola
Frank Miller
Carl Barks
Darwyn Cooke
Steve Ditko (primarily his work for Atlas and Marvel)
Will Eisner (primarily for the post-war Spirit sections)
Harvey Kurtzman (in addition to his art and covers, his layouts for EC comics and Humbug)
Moebius
Gil Kane
George Perez
Mike Allred
Howard Chaykin
Steranko (the James Dean or Jean Vigo of comics)
Art Adams
Frank Cho
Wally Wood
Jack Kirby
Jaimie Hernandez
Mike Mignola
Alex Toth
Frank Miller (Sin City and earlier)
Carl Barks
Richard Corben
Moebius
Darwyn Cooke
Harvey Kurtzman (his art, his covers and his layouts for EC, Trump and Humbug)
Steve Ditko (his Atlas and Marvel work)
Gil Kane
Jim Steranko (the James Dean or Jean Vigo of comics)
George Perez
Mike Allred
Howard Chaykin
Art Adams
Frank Cho
John Cassaday
You are too kind. Also, love your list. Glad we shared some of the same.
I had a Witchblade poster on my wall.... any who I enjoyed the work of Micheal Turner. He definitely left us way to soon.
The disrespect to Jack Kirby is real, but the rest of the list is solid, I just bought the John Byrne FF Omnibus. Where do you rank Kirby, he didnt even make your honorable mentions, i wanted to add i am really happy you mentioned Jim Aparo
Kirby is in my top 30 for sure. It’s a difficult list to put together. Limiting to 20. Not getting into Kirby until my 30s.
great list Ommie my homie!
I haven't been called that in decades, my brother!
surprised Ribic and Bachalo aren’t on the list but a top 20 is tough. In the future maybe keep it going with 20-30, 30-40...
LOL I think I can do 100, but I really didn't want to bore people with my ramblings for that long. :)
Not necessarily complete and in no particular order:
Jack Kirby - really needs no explanation. He created so many characters's looks, and even invented a comic art trope.
Neal Adams - pretty much THE artist of the 70s. Denny O'Neil said Adams could've illustrated the phone book and made it interesting.
Jim Lee - it's Jim Lee. Pretty much decided what comics ought to look like for 30 years.
Gary Frank - for his more realistic take on body/proportions, and he's the best in the industry with his complete mastery of facial expressions.
Alex Ross - best painter
Ivan Reis - another guy who illustrated some of the greatest comics published since 2008. Great human figure control. Great designs. Great detail, and probably the best splash page illustrator of the modern era.
Ethan van Sciver - the best Green Lantern artist ever. Also, his detail is astonishing.
George Perez - probably THE artist of the 80s. Pretty much decided for everyone that that is what comics should look like for that decade.
Bernie Wrightson - the master penciller. You HAVE to see his illustrations for Frankenstein. It's unfortunate that the inking process for comics covered up a lot of his detail. Google some of his signed pictures of Swamp Thing in black and white. OMG!
Todd McFarlane - probably decided what 90s comics should look like, but not going into the ridiculousness of what people like Rob Liefeld later did.
Francis Manapul - have you SEEN his work? His ability to craft words into scenery like what he did on the Flash title are second to none. His artsy style is visually stunning without betraying anatomy or proportion. His inker and colorist should also get a massive shoutout!
Stephen Bissette - one word: DETAIL. His level of detail was way ahead of its time. The guy who decided what Swamp Thing really ought to look like.
Sean Murphy - one of the most unique styles out there. Another great with an artsy style that has great control with anatomy and proportion.
Esad Ribic - probably Marvel's best artist of the past 15 years. Kinda comes off as Alex Ross 2.0 (slightly), but it's definitely different enough to be unique, and absolutely is jaw dropping.
Andrea Sorrentino - one of the most unique styles out there, no one draws like him. This is also another example of how the proper inker/colorist really brings out the penciller's art.
Steve Ditko - we all know why he's on this list.
Greg Capullo - probably the best horror/edgy artist of the last 30 years. His work on Spawn and Batman is legendary.
Liam Sharp - probably the best fantasy artist of the modern era. His Green Lantern is great, but one really has to see his art for The Brave and the Bold to appreciate what he can do.
Dave McKean - possibly the best multimedia artist in the industry of all time.
Mike Mignola - probably the most unique style in history. Visually stunning work. Master of horror! Excellent use of shadow/light.
Love Jason Fabok, but he's basically slightly edgier/darker Gary Frank. Didn't include Walt Simonson because he's more or less Kirby 2.0, not that that's a bad thing. Would've included Tony S. Daniel, but I sort of see him as a smoother lines Jim Lee. Love Tyler Kirkham as well. I just think Perez is better than John Byrne as an artist, not that Byrne isn't one of the best. In a Top 50, he'd definitely make the list. I love all these guys by the way. This is just my opinion.
Hi Omar 16:12 to 16:16 what is/are the title of the book(s) ? Is it Cyber Force ? The Incredible Hulk ??
Thanks for everything you do for comic fans.
John
Also, minor correction. There are 9 Epic Blueberry books (5 Blueberrys, 3 Lt. Blueberrys and 1 Marshal Blueberrys) plus 3 Young Blueberry collections which were published by Catalan.
Here in the States? Holy crap! I need to be on the lookout.
@@NearMintCondition Yes! The 9 Epic Blueberry books are magazine sized, and are of similar quality to the Moebius science fiction books released by Epic. The Young Blueberry volumes aren't quite as nice, imho, and they are regular trade sized. I have all of these and prize Moebius' western work as much as his science fiction. Intellectually, I know the science fiction work is later and a little more advanced. But I like the detail, design and classic storytelling of the westerns. If you search on Blueberry Moebius on amazon, you should be able to see all of the Epic volumes. They aren't cheap, though!
Also, there are Graphitti Design versions of most (all?) of the Epic volumes that were hardcover and signed by Moebius.
Some of mine favourite artist in comics in no particular order
Jack kirby
George Perez
Jim Lee
Sir Romita
Todd Mcfarlane
Alex Ross
Greg Capullo
Great list. Quite a range.
Agree with you on Moebuis and William. Mignola if you wanna do steampunk, I don't like anything dark personally.
You didn't mention Kirby, he was something of a cubist and inspired most of the comic book artist.
That you mentioned Moebius that's a great pick. He's something else.
Alex Ross? There's tons of fine artist out there that would do better than that, I know this is comics, but still.
Kirby is up there, but I didn't get into his art until my 30s.
A very good list, Omar. And good reasoning. Me, I'm a child of the 70s and I'd have Neal Adams and Jim Aparo in my top 20.
Aparo is my Batman artist.
TOP 10 IDW books please!
I like Freddie H Williams II a lot. The way he draws is really unique. What do you think of him?
Not top 10 but top 5: *Angel Medina for his work on Infinity Watch. *Todd M for his work on Spiderman. I only have one Spiderman action figure and I always try to pose it based on McFarlane's art. *Alex Milne. Not best but most original. His work on IDW Transformers MTMTE is just incredible. A third party company has started a toy line (and selling out) based on his re-imagining of the characters! And like most dudes who's into comics, my major criteria is how well they draw women. It's easy to draw good looking guys but women, not so much. *Jim Balent for Tarot. *And #1 Jim Lee! Psylocke, Jean Grey/Madelyne Pryor, Rogue, and Storm. No words.
Great list. Alex Milne is on my top 30. I'm so glad you brought that one up. My man!
I get it. It's a personal list and some great names listed. Hey my man romita snr didnt even get a passing mention at the end but who cares. Each person has a style that resonates just like music. A great vid and some work for me to check out. Excelsior. Nuff said.
I can't believe I left him and Rosa out.
Daaamn I thought I would see a Joe Quesada somewhere in that top 20. I just reread Daredevil Guardian Devil maybe that's why...
His art is solid. Top 50 for sure.
Melanie doesn’t let Omar look at that picture of storm anymore.
She don't know. :)
You forgot a few... Ethan Van Sciver, Carmine Infantino, Brian Bolland, Greg Capullo, Dave Gibbons, Patrick Gleason, Jock, Neil Adams, Francis Manapul, and Gary Frank.
Sorry these are mostly modern artists but that's what I'm familiar with.
I didn't forget, but they were on my list of top 100.
@@NearMintCondition you should do a list of top 10 artists that can also write. They're a rare and special breed.
Amazing list with great artists, and incredibly tough to grind down to 20 (even with all the honorable mentions)
My favorite is Mark Bagley
Never mentioned about Bill Sienkiewicz? :(
This list was so hard. So many artist. Like I mentioned I could have mentioned 100.
#20 #4 and mobeus blows everyone else out the water skill wise.. finish wise.. just skills that is hard to replicate. It's like hector Garrido G.I.Joe illustrations for the toy box art... can't finish like that. Just incredible hard levels to reach. Alex Ross level of painting. ..retires all. Loved Stephen platt, jae lee, todd mcfarlane, marc silvestri, jim lee, but... skill wise Alex Ross,, #20 and mobeus angles and creative thinking and perspectives... unreal to me. There are popular artist, great personality folks, but when it comes to an unreachable skill level... those 3 ... man... ah man.... unreachable levels. favorite artist of all time... non comic M.C. Escher.
Any artist who's style and finish that cannot, are is difficult to replicate... they are the highest level
I was a huge fan of those 90s artists too... ohhh MC Escher. YES.
