Love me some Arthur Adams goodness. A couple of these pieces I was on the phone with him while he was drawing them. Great memories.

I found this after watching a video on Rob Liefeld and McFarlane. I would like to be surprised that basically nobody mentions Adams influence on these people but for some reason its always been that way. Its still uncommon for me to hear someone mention this guy as the original source of this general style.

As a kid I LOVED Arthur Adams art. I was a little frustrated by him because I didn’t understand why he drew so little. I thought he was the best artist since John Byrne. In fact I thought in some ways he was better because Adams gave you lots of details in his sequential art. However, his need to include so much details was one of the reasons he didn’t do monthly’s. He was just a slow artist. As a teenI had no idea. I thought Marvel was just trying to piss me off. So when he did X-Men annuals I coveted them. Once a year getting beautiful sequential art. I’m still not sure why his annuals aren’t worth more? People seem to love his covers which are relatively basic compared to older work which is absolutely fantastic. I think the only work that I didn’t care for was an annual he did for DC. I think it was a Detective Comics annual. His rendering of Batman and Superman wasn’t the best. He gave them both Jay Leno like chins. Anyway thanks for showing this art book. I thought it would be filled with art of his that I’ve seen on Pintrest. How wrong I was.

Ann Nocenti was amazing. If you read through the early half book Hulk comics it seems obvious that she was responsible for the transition from early ugly monster versions to the long standing house style. It's a shame she didn't get more opportunities.

I don't like his art at all. I used to like his art so much when he drew the Longshot limited series and the X-Men annuals but when he changed his art style and made everybody look like they had Jay Leno chins then I was done. To bad 😞
