Umm... Parker by Darwyn Cooke, Scalped by Jason Aaron, American Carnage by Bryan Edward Hill, Whiteout by Greg Rucka, Gotham Central by Ed Brubaker and Greg Rucka, and on that note, as @Ricky said, basically anything by Brubaker is going to be worth your time and money.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this presentation of comics! I have read some, but not all. One of my favorite horror comics is Junji Ito's Uzumaki! Man, I'm a huge fan of the way you talk about the comics you like! Your love for books is literally felt! Have you read Clive Barker's Great and Secret Show by Clive Barker, Gabriel Rodriguez and Chris Ryall?

I have all of his translated works by Viz and also Dissolving Classroom. Sensor has A Lot of spiritual side (not religious even tho it does tap a bit into it and cults but it's not the theme) of things and uses some lingo of esoteric beleaves so it's very you will love it or think it's boring kinda work, for me it worked. Remina is like this never ending hyper active something is happening all the time Lovecraftian story and I also do love it but to some Ito's a bit more funny/ridiculous ideas maybe makes it too unconvincing for some since it also divides people. Gyo is just gross as h£ll and that's that 😂 I felt dirty couple days after reading it but that's kinda the point of it
Tomie and No Longer Human (it's an adaptation of a book) are very much on Uzumakis level in my mind (around same lenght also). Black Paradox even tho it's a bit short is very safe bet. Also I would say Dissolving Classroom, it's quite similar in lenght to Black Paradox but not as strong but very entertaining. Those two are somewhat in the same vain to me. Maybe for the lenght and the chaptering style.
From the short-story collections Shiver and Smashed are the best ones from the 5 bigger hardcovers. With the shorter ones The Liminal Zone, Venus in The Blindspot and Fragments of Horror I would personally go them in reverse order if interested in more Ito.

Hellboy is an absolute win; those Library Editions were the starting point of the Librarium vyKania.
Harrow County never really rang my chimes before but I will give it a shot and perhaps the Locke and Key Compendium as well.
Bring me that Gideon Falls Library Edition and already tracking down a copy of Station 16; Eternaut was such a good read that Omar's import recommendations carry some weight up in this house.
Nameless by Grant Morrison is among my favourite horror reads; the plot makes Final Crisis seem like Fun with Dick and Jane so maybe ease into it if you're not a familiar with a lot of Morrison.
Definitely check out The Steam Man; an excellent all-in-one, turn of the century dark Sci-Fi.

Huge fan here, i wanna say something about Alejandro Jodorowsky and the work he has done with the metabarons. Those stories may not befall in the horror genre but they are some comic books worthy of sharing with the fellow readers!

    • @aleksisuuronen5969
      @aleksisuuronen5969 2 года назад

I feel like a lot of horror comics aren't really That horror in the end (like Hellboy is more action for example). Some parts of Preacher is more horror than many labeled as horror. It's a labeling problem usually since sci-fi can be way more horror than be contemporary sci-fi. Or western or whatever but still be in that usual chategory. Especially thriller kinda stories have a lot more messed up things in them than an actual horror in general, because they often feel more rooted in the real world.
Horror as a genre is suprisingly widely labeled, say a story isn't really a scary nor supposed to be, it isn't comedy but it's about Satan and some predicament of his that he has to work out in h£ll. it might be labeled as horror even when it would be more drama based (say it would have horrific imaginery as much as in Vinland Saga).
Like Junji Ito's No Longer Human which is an adaptation from a book could be put under horror or thriller really in my mind. Since it's like supposed real life events of the author but spiced up so there is that groundness of a thriller while bad things happen and then some occasional supernatural occurence or dreamy imaginery. As a vibe it kinda threads the line. To me it's more about the vibe of the work than what it's about. As an ladt example the pretty legendary but old old manga The Drifting Classroom was made in 70's so it would have been horror then as still labeled now when it's more so a mystery/thriller.

Not one of my favorite horror comics but a hidden gem for sure is Jaybird. It's a Finish comic about a bird that lives in a big spooky house. The comic is almost completly without dialogue and has no narration. There is a beautiful oversized (european album size) edition from Dark Horse for $ 11,59 from IST.

Nice list, but there is also a horror comic missing that is not included or even mentioned here and I consider it a very serious shortcoming for true horror fans.
That said, the comic in question has been on Italian newsstands for 37 years ( second in sales behind Tex Willer's iconic 1948 western comic) and is called Dylan Dog.
Published starting from 1986, his adventures have in fact alternated traditional horror with numerous "homages" to the classic monsters of the genre, to the modern splatter of the films of Dario Argento and George Romero, but also to yellow, surreal and fantastic in general, always with great irony.
Former Scotland Yard agent, detoxified alcoholic, vegetarian and convinced animal rights activist, Dylan Dog has a mysterious past wrapped in a dreamlike and surreal dimension. Not surprisingly, the dream (or rather: the nightmare) and everything that seems to be beyond reality are his personal and professional interests. As a private detective he deals exclusively with unusual cases, in all shades of the term: he is addressed to those who have been affected, or even just touched, by the black wing of the supernatural. People the police don't believe and who would often risk slipping into madness if they didn't find someone willing to listen to them and help them.
Fear fascinates him, the irrational and inexplicable fear of the unknown. And he himself is afraid: he is certainly not an invincible hero, and indeed sometimes he just can't solve the case, kill the monster, drive away the nightmare. Or more often it only partially succeeds, and when it all seems over, the horror reappears...
Dylan Dog is an anti-hero, then? Not even: he's just a man. A man who, unlike many, does not reject the unknown but instead tries to penetrate and understand it, especially when the mystery and horror lurk in the depths of the unconscious.
Ironic, impulsive, problematic, full of doubts about himself and the world, strong and tender at the same time, Dylan Dog hates violence, loves women, enjoys playing the clarinet and building a model of a galleon that may never end . He is an avid cinephile, reads a lot of everything, loves pizza and always dresses in the same way: black jacket, red shirt and blue jeans. And despite all the horrors and hallucinating absurdities he has witnessed, it cannot be said that he still believes completely, blindly, in the supernatural: "I don't believe it, but I hope so".
