Hey Sam just wanted to let you know your vids got me through 8 days of I.C.U (12 days of hospitalization total due COVID-19) and I’ve been on bed rest and supplement oxygen for a month and half at home. Today I got the all clear from all my doctors and my family and I will make this recipe to celebrate my return to regular life.

Glad you're doing better. Strange disease. I have a friend and his 2 brothers and both sister in laws got it, along with his 87 year old mom. 3 out of 5 had virtually no symptoms(including his mom thank God), and the other 2 ended up in ICU in critical condition. Both of them survived. The 2 that ended up in ICU were the healthiest of the 5 to start with. WTF???

I think a huge componenet to this sandwich is wrapping it, seems like the shape and the experience are greatly improved with that simple step.

You're missing the last step that literally ties this sandwich together and that is wrapping it with aluminum foil so you get it nice and tight. It'll jam pack all the flavors together and makes it less messy to eat
It also steams it a bit, makes everything better. Internet Shaquille did a video on foil wrapping being a big reason takeaway burritos are better than what you make at home.

This looks amazing. I am going to make it like yours, but the second one I'm going to muck around with the cheese and try it with cheddar and fried mushrooms instead of the lettuce and tomato.
I made something similar for lunch yesterday. I had a leftover grilled burger and caramelized onions from the night before. I layered chopped burger and onions between two tortillas with cheddar cheese and tomato salsa. I cooked it in a frying pan until it was crispy on the outside and melted on the inside. I also made a dipping sauce of sour cream and salsa. It was a surprisingly delicious munchy.
This is how you order one in ny. “ yo ock let me get a chopped cheese” if it’s a spanish bodega then you swapp the ock & say papi instead

Hey Sam, if you've never been to Puerto Rico and tried a really good TRIPLETA, try making one! They're a long sandwich with (traditionally) three meats, hence the name, with lettuce and tomato and mayoketchup as the sauce. BUT the yummiest one IMO is one that only has two meats in it: chopped up skirt steak and chicken breast. Oh, and potato stix, can't forget that part for the crunch!! We usually make it with pan sobao, which is extra soft, kinda sweet bread (not as sweet as brioche). It is served in tube form wrapped in tin foil. YOU WILL DIE AND GO TO HEAVEN. You can use that japanese mayo you love so much to make the mayoketchup.

Adobo is just salt, oregano and garlic powder... there are various ones that have pepper or citrus.. but people mostly use the former

Just made one, with 50/50 ground beef and cubed taco meat from Safeway haha! I added provolone also, and added a little Bob's Famous Roquefort Dressing dressing to the lettuces on the top instead of the mayo. This is a awesome sandwich, no matter how you make it. oh yeah, I also sliced a Serrano chili into the onions when I grilled it, to give it a little kick.

We Up North in the TRI-STATE AREA have had these for years and they originated in the Small Deli Corner Soul Food Restaurants and we called them CHEESEBURGER SUBS.
But of coarse they would say they started in a Bodega. For we were eating them before Bodega's were around.
My older brother and sister were doing this when we had everything for a hamburger except the buns but we had hoagie rolls. Viola! It was born in a Brooklyn apt in park slope. They were doing this in the late 70s but it says this sandwich was invented about 20 years ago....maybe for yall but its been a thing for me waaay before that.

The ONLY things missing is sazón & seasoning salt or adobo for the true NY taste that’s what really separates it from a Philly Cheesesteak but this gets a A+ anyway you can’t go wrong with this recipe right here.

Minced meat should be eaten well cooked, the process of grinding meat means the outer and inner portions of the cuts of meat are ground up and mixed into each other, a cut of beef I'll enjoy medium rare as long the outside is well seared, but when the inner layers have become as prone to contamination as the outer layers, I'd suggest making sure it's all at least medium well if not well done.

I have been making these for years but I call mine a cheesefake. I use a Italian sub roll. The whole family loves them.
