There is literally a cheesesteak spot on every other corner in the hood in Philly. There isn't just ONE spot to get a good cheesesteak. No sense in arguing which spot in Philly is the best.

@@rhey81 Yeah, New York has the pizza, definitely. But Philly will always have the Cheesesteaks. Because places outside of philly are usually scared to use beef with fat in it, they usually use very very lean beef, so it's tough, dry, and tasteless.
Philly isn't scared to use beef with some fat in it, that's where all the flavor and moisture comes from.

That's not what a chopped cheese is tho? It's more like a hero but then the meat is treated similarly to a patty melt. Also the smaller crunchy bits are what make the sandwich imo. They're light and crispy, almost like bacon.

Exactly. All this hype over a diced up cheeseburger. Also there’s a disadvantage with the chopped cheese because of all the extra toppings and condiments added. A cheesesteak is a much more pure sandwich. It’s just steak, cheese, and onions and maybe mushrooms depending on where you go.

Dj Dillard so late but as multiple people commented, in Philly the best steaks come from the hood so they're made and taste a little different then the tourist spots like Geno's, Pats, Delissandro's, and the white folks don't typically take trips to the hood to get a steak so they don't really know the taste difference.
@@jep1437 That's not true. Some great spots are in the hood, sure. But there are also some other great spots outside of the hood. Besides, anyone that is born and raised in philly will travel to get a great cheesesteak every once in awhile.
I'm 100% white, born and raised in north philly, the hood. And I go to Joes for my cheesesteaks, on Torresdale ave. They have the best Cheesesteaks I've ever had.
And I tried Cheesesteaks all around philly. I used to get 2 foot Cheesesteaks back in the day from Luckys on Kensington and lehigh, but they changed owners years ago.

you need to compare a Cheesesteak Hoagie for it to be balanced. a normal cheesesteak doesn't have the lettuce, tomato etc that the chopped cheese has. plus the chopped cheese was fresher.

Why are you comparing the two? You even shown a clip from a video saying they are completely different and shouldn't be compared. One is meant as a super cheap sandwich made from hamburger where the other is much more expensive as it consist of higher quality meats and generally more cheese.

As a New York nigga I can say I like the chop cheese flavor balance but I wish it was more loaded like the cheesesteaks. Also, having been to Dalessandro's I see they couldnt bring all of the condiments which make the sandwich that much better. This was a good one

Well at least you actually know your shit and went to Dalessandros. There’s a great cheesesteak spot across the street too, Chubby’s. Those 2 are in my top 5 in the city. Chopped cheese is definitely awesome. Wish I knew specific spots but the ones I’ve had were really good. It’s a fair comparison.

Brooklyn here all day long but on the real, it all depends on where you're getting either. I'm a chopped cheese dude but I've had phillies that were insane good.
Where was the tasting taking place? It's been a while since I lived on the east coast but NYC and Philly are an easy two hours apart, not to mention navigating traffic. This feels like a bullshit test to me, they are hot sandwiches and you aren't really getting the full experience on either hours later. My guess is they went to Philly, got the steaks, then went to get the chopped cheese and ate them in NYC. That would make the steaks probably 3 hours old and the chopped cheese relatively fresh. Correct me if I'm wrong here...

Peter Copeland I'm more surprised at how people from Philly here are taking this video so seriously; a good amount of NYers still don't even know chopped cheese is a thing. They're both delicious in their own ways, but I think in terms of texture and price, the chopped cheese is just a better choice; the crispy bits really make it what it is imo. Also, depending on traffic, you can easily get to NYC from Philly in under two hours and even shorter if you have something like EZ Pass.

I’ve tried the Philly cheesesteak and the New York chopped cheese. I hate both of them. The Philly cheesesteak always has so much cheese on it that I can’t taste anything else. The chopped cheese just tastes like a glorified cheeseburger on a hoagie roll. Both sandwiches tasted like they were soaked in grease. I wasn’t impressed by either to be honest. I truly do not understand the hype. I guess I really HATE cheese. Whenever I tried to tell the restaurant to go light on the cheese, they looked at me like I had a foot growing out of my forehead.
If you ever want to make a Philly Cheesesteak, its not that complicated but if you ger ribeye and put a pinch of oregano while its cooking its changes the whole flavor.
