And the spacers make the set up look cleaner

I’m about to do this. With my modern road bikes I can saw the steering tube to get rid of any chimney stack.
The thing is you can’t cut anything off the adapter. I like my stem to be low not sit up & beg Dutch city bike style. I hope my adapter drops in a little bit deeper.
    Sik build.

It's like I have a quill thats lighter than any quill I'm sad to say if I start changing parts I'll be struggling to find parts that are lighter or as light as what the bike is the bike comes in at like 8 pounds it's an old bike so imagine how much I'm hesitant to bring it to the times

So can the stem slide down if I don’t have spacers?

    1 1/8th inch is not 25.4mm. It's 28.6mm.
    1 inch is 25.4mm.
    And 7/8th inch is 22.2mmm.

Just wondering at the end of the day... Do you think the upgrade including the new adapter weighs more than the original quill stem did? Im thinking of doing this to a 2000 Trek road bike that has a quill stem and havent decided what I'm doing just yet.

Why do we grease the wedge?

People sometimes grease things for anti-seize… I’ve never had an issue with wedges getting stuck in the fork tubes but it can happen.
