Hello Craig, I mainly use MS Word for recording. It helps me to transfer oral language into written texts. In combination with FiFine microphone it saves me a lot of time. Word isn't built in on my iMac, but it isn't too expensive, so it might fit in the topic of today's video...
So you got the Fifine mic? Not too bad for the money and I hope it's working out for you. Thanks Stephan.
Thanks
Thanks Sean.
Helpful tutorial. I plan to make audio recordings of the books I've read to share with family & friends who haven't the time to actually read the book, but interested in the content. To be able to transfer to digital format they can listen to on their ride to work etc... All your suggestion are worth a try, I specifically think the imovie will work best for me as no apparent time limit for the length of chapters to read. For a mic I'll look at the FIFINE K683 you're using, any suggestions welcome. Thank you.
I just did a video on maono mic pretty good for 45. I will be doing another one on higher end fifine mic in week or so about 75.
Thanks!
Great teacher, thank you
Thanks for nice comment
Helpful video thank you, just about deleting part for Voice Memos how you said it sounds like it will delete the files itself - but the fact it deletes the files that you deleted, that are in the bin after some time which is a helpful function normally. Otherwise again thanks a lot!
Thanks for watching and the info. Appreciate it.
Hi, I record long (2 hour) hypnosis sessions. I have used voice memo on MacBook Air and garage band, but I am always afraid garage band will cut out while Im not watching as I have heard it has recording limits. Memo doesn't have that problem, but it puts both mics on one stereo trac where I cannot edit each mic channel separately in garage band. It makes adjustments more difficult when I want to apply it to just one of the 2 microphones. Do you have a suggestion for what app or software to use? I have 2 xls mics through a motu m2 interface into my MacBook Air m1. Any suggestions are appreciated.
I think there are ways to extend recording on Garage Band like this link - forums.macrumors.com/threads/garageband-help.189813/ - but I would search for that on RUclips and I'm sure there is a video. I'll need to see what I can find on recording limits. For example if I use iMovie I'm yet to hit the limit but never did more than 30 minutes on that so far.
So, at first I though the Voice Memo option was the easier one, but then you mentioned the iMovie option, which seems great because I need to have my audio files there anyway.
However, with Garageband, can you actually equalize the audio there? That would make Garageband the superior option. Though for ease I guess Voice Memo works best.
And a question: which export would be the highest audio quality?
EDIT: Yes, naturally, you can edit audio in Garageband, which makes, in my opinion the best option for recording audio - IF you know how to equalize.
Thanks for watching. I think Garageband could provide the best export options for quality but it's hard to tell. I just know bands use that so I'm guessing it will have the quality required for almost all applications. Thanks again for watching.
@@craigneidel thank you! Garageband seems pretty great! I'm preparing myself with a setup of Garageband and iMovie, along with a mic! Thanks again
great overview for non techie like me. thanks!
Thanks for feedback
Hi Craig, how you to pushout such clear accuare translation script? I'm trying the whole day audio record with my lav Boya mic on mac mini 2012, on google docs, with mote tool, the output translation script is horrible, it produces a lot of word salad, useless to use that in video or podcast. It's so frustrating i do not know how to fix this, maybe you have a tip?
And with quicktime it not work I not can hear any sound of my audio record, no matter if I use the mac in line mic, or via pnp usb adapter- no sound. My big problemn is the audio script it does not accurate recognize my words.
What version of MacOS are you on as that could have to do with the quality of this feature? Make sure you go into sound settings and you are on the right mic etc. also.
Hi Craig, thank you for your friendly answer! I have a mac mini 2012 with Catalina. Using an Delock 61645 usb adapter for the mic.
The mic is the Boya by-M1 lavalier.
So my mac chrome setting is english, tried it with mote voice tool and in google docs, most of my english spoken words are not recognized. The catalina system sound settings not recognize any external mic only the usb pnp adapter.
Then so in mote the audio script translation= not accurate. I can try it on my android phone to see if this will working better.
I have no idea what is the cause of this.
Thank you and have nice day Craig !
Can I use two different mics at the same time while recording an interview with a guest? One can be with voice memo and the other can be with quicktime player. Is that possible?
No that would not work unless you have something that can do that like a podcast device that streamers use with a few mics.
I found a way. I record using voice memos and QuickTime at the same time. One mic on voice memos. The other mic on QuickTime. Works well
How are you connecting two mics?
Just using two usb c ports on my macbook pro to plug them in
Got it.
I built the PC I'm using now in 2014.
It has Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4690 CPU @ 3.50GHz 3.50 GHz
16 GB Ram
Nvidia GTX 1650 Super
This computer still does the work for my music to this day but thanks to windows 10, it's quite sluggish at times
What kind of Mac would I need round about at a 27 inch to match this PC?
Sorry about the delay. It all depends if you are a gamer or not as it's hard to match the graphics card. For for work etc. like video editing or photo editing any of the M1, M2, or M3 systems with 16 GB (if you can get that) are incredible machines for sure.
@@craigneidel we'll find out soon, getting my Mac Mini M1 - 8GB ram tomorrow.
@@synthoelectro nice. Thanks
@@craigneidel welcome, these macs are much more affordable these days thanks to used sales.
For sure.
I own a UMC HD202HD Beringer interface, will it work in mac?
That is a pretty specific product but I would just do a search on Google to see if that works. I don't see why not as long as you have the correct connectiion.
@@craigneidel noticed myself that it will work from the website, both windows and mac.
Thanks for the follow up.
@@craigneidel welcome
@Craig: have you ever heard of Cathy Wood and her ARK funds? I think she is very interesting and so I dared to invest into two of her funds. It’s not too easy to buy her funds here, but somehow I managed. Would be nice to hear your opinion! Hope you are doing good and stay safe!
Hello Stephan. Hope you are doing good. I actually never heard of Cathy Wood and the ARK funds. Today my covid stock jumped about 20% and made a nice profit. Hoping it will go up more as they are getting very close. Still a gamble though for sure.
how can i record audio when its in sleep
I will need to look into that as I haven't had a reason to do that before. I just keep it awake when recording.
You are talking way too fast
Ok. Thanks for watching
@@craigneidel For someone who doesn't have any experience doing this, it just blew right by me. Didn't have the first two apps, just Garage Band.
My new videos are getting better on speed.
@@craigneidel this one sounds better to me, I can follow better, thanks.
