Its best just to create a Multioutput Device, so there is no need to change the Sound at all (speaker or headphones). You'll only need to change the actual computer sound settings, and select the Output as a Multioutput and the Input as a Blackhole 2ch.

Thank you so much. I used to record on my iPad so I didn't realize that I couldn't record on a Macbook with input audio. I recorded so much yesterday but when I started editing there was no sound. I tried an app called Record it from the App Store. They do give the option to record with audio (extra 1.1Mb software installation) but you gotta pay to record for more than 5 mins at a time. What if when I try to create the Multi-output device my only options on the right are Blackhole and Macbook Speakers? Do I select that speaker option instead of headphones ?
I have simililar problem on my mac mini m1. I can only choose my headphones for that and the audio is reeeeally quiet and doesn't pick up quiet sounds. Only loud ones and they're suoer quiet too in the recording.
You need to have headphones plugged in or the External Headphones option won't show up. Try plugging some in and see if it works then. Hope that helps!
Here is the keystroke to access Quicktime command+shift 5. command+shift 3 is screenshot, command=shift 4 will allow you to grab a portion of the screen.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I can finally screen-record. It took me a while to figure it out because my headphones kept showing up as built-in output, not External Headphones. After much googling, I discovered that "the operating system generally considers the headphone jack to be part of the computer's integrated audio system, meaning it's simply another output option from the 'built-in' audio hardware, not a separate device". So I went ahead and tried screen recording, and it worked! 🙏

Hey there! For my videos I’m using FCPX. The main transitions I use are wipe, spin, and cross dissolve, and these are all basic out of the box transitions that most software should support, nothing fancy. For the banners/titles, I’m using a simple callouts template from Envato Elements. I’ve pre-configured a bunch of these and put them in a library so I can easily copy/paste them into my videos. To do this yourself, find a callouts/titles template for your editing software and then pre-make a bunch of them so you can just grab and go. Hope this helps.

You're welcome! For mixing mic audio in, you can try adding it to the list in the Aggregate Device step, after step 9 (you'd check the box for your mic, in addition to BlackHole 2ch). However, it's hard to get a good mix of volumes if you're trying to add in your mic like that. So you might want to try something designed more for mixing multiple inputs, like OBS Studio. That should get the mic mixing part up and running easily. Hope that helps
One way is to use a free piece of software called VLC media player to convert the video to MP3, that would certainly work. Just google "how to convert video to mp3 with VLC" and some guides should pop up

this was very useful. but my problem was that when i changed my mac output devices to computer audio output (which is blackhole) and screenrecord with the audio output also being computer audio output i cannot hear the audio. and when im done recording and change my mac's output device back to macbook speakers and play the video i can hear the audio, any solution for this?
Just an FYI here...My Norton 360 Security software (i.e. antivirus) popped up a "Danger" warning page, when I tried to visit the existential.audio/blackhole page. So, I'll have to find another way to re-route the audio into QuickTime. Thanks for your video.
Thanks Jay, how do I record ONLY the audio and video from the screen and not my audio? For example we record video call interviews and when recording via QuickTime and the steps you mentioned, it still records sound from my end (annoying background noises included). We want JUST the video/audio from the screen recording video call.., Any tips?
Two ways: 1) In the "Headphones (For Recording)" multi-output device step (after step 12 in the video), you can add your mic between External Headphones and Blackhole 2ch. That will merge them together, but you'll need to play around with the volumes to get everything just right. 2) Or, you can pull out bigger guns and use software like OBS Studio which gives you a mixer board for both Headphones (For Recording) and your mic, that might be a little easier.
After I did this, I can't hear my speaker audio now, only when i plug in my headphones, can you help? (I even selected the "built in speakers" output and i still can't hear my mac.

this was very useful. but my problem was that when i changed my mac output devices to computer audio output (which is blackhole) and screenrecord with the audio output also being computer audio output i cannot hear the audio. and when im done recording and change my mac's output device back to macbook speakers and play the video i can hear the audio, any solution for this?

Just an FYI here...My Norton 360 Security software (i.e. antivirus) popped up a "Danger" warning page, when I tried to visit the existential.audio/blackhole page. So, I'll have to find another way to re-route the audio into QuickTime. Thanks for your video.

can you do a video using parallel to record screen video? i tried using it but it seems to capture the surrounding sound
Thanks Jay, how do I record ONLY the audio and video from the screen and not my audio? For example we record video call interviews and when recording via QuickTime and the steps you mentioned, it still records sound from my end (annoying background noises included). We want JUST the video/audio from the screen recording video call.., Any tips?

Nevermind, I got it figured out. Thanks again for the great upload.
Two ways: 1) In the "Headphones (For Recording)" multi-output device step (after step 12 in the video), you can add your mic between External Headphones and Blackhole 2ch. That will merge them together, but you'll need to play around with the volumes to get everything just right. 2) Or, you can pull out bigger guns and use software like OBS Studio which gives you a mixer board for both Headphones (For Recording) and your mic, that might be a little easier.
is the quality better when using the QuickTime record or with OBS?
After I did this, I can't hear my speaker audio now, only when i plug in my headphones, can you help? (I even selected the "built in speakers" output and i still can't hear my mac.

@@jaymayor so it was working fine yesterday .. now when I record with headphones .. now the screen recorded audio I get is like so low you have to turn up the volume to max to barely hear it ...I didn't change settings it just stopped working right all of a sudden.. any suggestions I already tried reinstalling
