And now I was searching for how to record( just to add to playlist as of now) and there you are. One hour ago!! BTW.. OmG thank you! My problem is the mixing aspect. Can you go a little into detail on what filters you use and how to make it sound so clean? I saw the compressors and stuff while you were recording but I am still unsure on the levels. Thank you so much for the help!
If you don't know what you're doing and want to make your song sound a little better, grab some good quality headphones and try a few of these tips. Use a noise reduction tool on every track after you record it (it might be called noise gate, noise reduction tool, or something else depending on what program you use). For some of these you just select your track or tracks (so all of your instruments and/or vocals) and basically just apply a preset with one click, hit OK, and boom! Way less noise. Or you can Google how your particular noise reduction tool works, since each program is a bit different. But this will help to remove noise from your environment on the track. You may not notice it while recording, but even seemingly-quiet noises like a car driving a block away or an air conditioner in another room can create a LOT of noticeable noise on your track, so definitely check these tools out. Then I'd recommend using some preset settings you see in your program. In the place you apply effects or "plugins," you'll usually see some preset options for vocals, rock guitar, or for whatever other purpose. These are a good starting point--apply a vocal one to your vocals and see if you like the sound. Compare the sound before and after in different parts, with and without the effect (apply the effect, listen, undo, listen again OR use a "compare tool" if your program has it to quickly compare the previous version of a track with the effects version). Just try different ones until you like something. And don't be afraid to move the dials that pop up and listen to the difference. What happens if I put the dial for this effect's setting all the way to the lowest? What about highest? In the middle? Doing that helps you to learn and HEAR what each thing in your program does. In this way, you can learn about these settings while still using presets and their default options sometimes to make it easy and save time! :) As you learn, you might find that you have preferences for how to adjust these dials for different effects. The key is just starting with built in options and listening to compare different sounds until you're like "ohhh I see what this one does, and I like it at 30% for my guitar for this song!" Also, lear how to pay attention to levels (green/yellow/red bar that moves on a track you're recording or about to record). Nice-sounding tracks will have a green level, but a higher green level, that may go yellow at times but never goes red. A quick rule of thumb is to get the level for each track as high as you can without ever letting it go red (aka "clipping") and then reduce the noise after you do that. Whatever you do, use good quality headphones to experiment because it'll help you hear the difference between different sounds/settings. I would look up headphones for this purpose because you don't want mega-bassy headphones, you want relatively "flat" ones so you get a decent idea of what your track sounds like at baseline. Those tips and RUclips will get you well on your way! Good luck!

I am musician singer since BEFORE internet a youtube existed, bought a tascam 24 microphones foot switch, wind screen, it arrived today, i have not plugged in yet. your video has helped me understand some jargon. I had a fostex 4 trak cassette recorder complete with Tape hiss. (1986) i have emerged from the "cave" see where it goes.

Thank you Annie! I'm going to be recording stuff much darker and heavier than yours, but your voice is beautiful! Going to try to make my first cover tonight! Thanks a million!
Excellent. This is useful for me as I play an instrument and don't record much. I used to record a video in my phone and post it directly without any special effects (lol). And now I am planning to buy the fancy stuff and try to be better. ❤️
Thank you so much for this guide! I’ve always wanted to film covers and had 0 idea where to start, this guide jump started EVERYTHING for me! Thank u so much Annie love u
Just stumbled upon your channel, and this video is a huge help! I really want to start a channel singing cover songs, but have no idea how to begin, until I watched your video. I love how basic this video is, it's really informative, and makes me less hesitant. So, thank you! It's clear that you really put a lot of work into your videos! I'm excited to start my RUclips journey!
Omg Annie you are absolutely beautiful! Thank you so much for this. I've recently started to invest in my love for singing and this was a great place to start.
Really helpful video! It's amazing how much you can do with a budget setup. People don't need a $1,000 mic and Pro Tools to make music. Just go with whatever you can afford and just do it - that's the most important part. However I do have one small suggestion - I think your explanation of a condenser mic plus interface could be confusing for some people. I'm sure your point is to use an XLR mic and an audio interface for better quality. But this has nothing to do with how the mic itself works (aka condenser or dynamic). With your explanation it seems like "condenser mic = XLR mic = better quality", but you can also have a USB condenser mic such as the AT2020USB+. And they're perfectly fine if you don't want to buy an interface. The important thing is not to go for a dynamic mic instead of a condenser, no matter if they'yre XLR or USB, at least for the purposes you're talking about. They're just better as allround mics for all kinds stuff you want to do - YT videos, vocal covers, podcasts. Bottom line: sorry for the long comment, I didn't mean to over-criticise. These are definitely very good tips if you want to start recording! Keep it up!
Hi, I see what you mean but it's not 100% true. Why is the Sure SM7b so popular? If you are a voice over artist or a singer, you're looking for a mic who can reproduce your voice accurately. That's what a condenser mic is suppose to do. It's called "flat". RUclipsrs & podcasters are lees concerned with this and like their voices sounding deeper, (these mics are "coloured") that's for example what the sm7b does. Another important point to notice is that the diaphragm is smaller and will pick up less background noise which is very important when you are not recording in a booth. Last but not least, every body focus on the mic the audio interface but the xlr cable is as important as the other 2 elements and a good one is far to be cheap. A bad one will ruin your work or start creating distortion after 30mn
@@km-ke2lz yes it will and it will also sounds like you record from a church if you don't have a booth. Voice meter banana will allow you to reduce this effect and Krisp the external noises. After, with the noise reduction and a noise gate VST plug in you will be able to completely remove it. But if you don't record voice over I highly recommend to buy a USB podcast dynamic microphone. I don't recommend the SM7B because if your audio interface is not strong enough you will have to buy an external (expensive) preamp and this mic is also super sensitive to the plosives. A usb mic will provide the same quality without the set up of an audio interface and a good XLR cable.
Great vid Annie! Would be great to see how you also edit the vocals and mix (equaliser, etc.) to turn it into a final output. Thanks, looking forward to it!
Just discovered your channel and I love it a lot!!! For real, it seems like you put tons of effort and love in your videos and it really inspires me ❤️

New to figuring out how to do RUclips stuff…
This is priceless information ❤
Bless you
🙏❤️🙏
Great video❤️ I just wanted to clarify you can use a dynamic mic on an interface too. She accidentally said if not usb better quality is a condenser or xlr but there are condenser usb mic and dynamic usb and both in xlr. Xlr is the balanced cable to connect your mic to your interface or preamp! Stay happy much love ❤️
Omg ty ty ty! As a noob this was so simple, straightforward and easy to understand !! 🙏👌
This was such a great video! And OKKK CASUALLY droppig the most beautiful guitar/vocal verse in the middle of this vid!!
I didnt expect that voice. You are amazing!
I just followed, I have been wanting to start a channel of my very own but had no idea how to start, I am planning to get singing lessons and learn more about editing, this video is exactly what I am looking for, thank you so much ❤
Omg yes girl!!!! Thank you!! This video is very informative and very well organized :). Definitely a nice complete guide with step by step tutorial for anyone to start their music journey😊😁
Thanks so much Andy!!! so grateful for you
I love how she's not judging people like me who are just gonna record the vocals from my iphone, cause I don't know if I'm even gonna post it to be honest.......
Thank you for this video, I'm actually recording some covers on SoundCloud, nothing fancy just on my phone, I really liked your video hope I'll get to improve my skills!
I think a lot of people are coming here to understand how to do it and ASSUME they can upload this legally to RUclips (but they can't). Worth a mention. Thanks, this was helpful!!! (hi from July 2024!)
i just ordered one and now i had to watch it too remmeber when it comes! and thank you so much!
I'm a simple person, I see Harry Styles in the background, I subscribe
Thank you so much for making this channel here is everything I needed❤️
Can we just talk about how calm her voice is?
One of the most impressive, informative video's I've seen. Young lady you are very talented and knowledgeable and I wish you much success.
thank you so much for this tutorial! I’ve been trying to figure this out forever.
Wow…you made it so easy for your viewers to record their songs…thanks a lot…surely it’s a great help for beginners like me
I have everything I need for making music literally everything, I just wanted to watch this video to see how everyone really does their covers and possibly getting an instrument in the mix since my audio interface has a designated port for instruments
Wow you actually made things so easy to understand, keep it up
AAH! YOUR VIDEO IS SO HELPFUL!! Im super confused on how to start, i dont even know the basics. thank you for posting this 💓
I am musician singer since BEFORE internet a youtube existed, bought a tascam 24 microphones foot switch, wind screen, it arrived today, i have not plugged in yet. your video has helped me understand some jargon. I had a fostex 4 trak cassette recorder complete with Tape hiss. (1986) i have emerged from the "cave" see where it goes.
helpful! I have a couple songs written down, it would be really fun to put them out and I actually plan on doing so. I don't really have instrument experience, so I'm looking at different free online places to digitally play the instruments, but hopefully it all works out!
Big looks on the recording tips sis. On top of everything, the video editing is such a comfy vibe 🔥
Thank you Annie!
I'm going to be recording stuff much darker and heavier than yours, but your voice is beautiful! Going to try to make my first cover tonight! Thanks a million!
How did it go?
I love how much work you put into your videos. Because you make us so easy to make music!
This was the first video i clicked on and im pleased. I can tell a lot of work goes into your videos and you’re killin it girl! 💗
Excellent. This is useful for me as I play an instrument and don't record much. I used to record a video in my phone and post it directly without any special effects (lol). And now I am planning to buy the fancy stuff and try to be better. ❤️
Really like this video! Straight forward and easy to understand! I am wanting to make very simple cover songs, and this helped..

And..... Congratulations on 14k subscribers 💕💕
thanks fam
Keep it up!
Thank you so much♡
Hi, I see what you mean but it's not 100% true.
@@LeSaff thank you
@@LeSaff so condenser microphone can record other annoying sounds like fans or cars outside etc??
@@km-ke2lz yes it will and it will also sounds like you record from a church if you don't have a booth.
Voice meter banana will allow you to reduce this effect and Krisp the external noises. After, with the noise reduction and a noise gate VST plug in you will be able to completely remove it.
But if you don't record voice over I highly recommend to buy a USB podcast dynamic microphone.
I don't recommend the SM7B because if your audio interface is not strong enough you will have to buy an external (expensive) preamp and this mic is also super sensitive to the plosives.
A usb mic will provide the same quality without the set up of an audio interface and a good XLR cable.
this is legit how good I want my school presentations to be like just like this video . Thank you
Thank you, I been trying to learn on my own and this was the only video that helped!
Wow. You’re a great teacher. The visuals and your ability go communicate is impeccable. Great content. Wow.
Bright future ahead.
Great vid Annie! Would be great to see how you also edit the vocals and mix (equaliser, etc.) to turn it into a final output. Thanks, looking forward to it!
