There is a lot you have left out, but this may be because you don't know that Audacity from the link you provide does not have all the "Codecs" needed to fully open Audacity's full editing abilities. These codecs are FFmpeg and newer versions such as this one doesn't have FFmpeg in its libraries. When trying to add the FFmpeg codec libraries an important DLL (avformat-55.dll) file is missing or Audacity ignores the avformat-55.dll and both Audacity and FFmpeg sites do not have a workaround to fix this error. I recorded a sound file on my Andriod 10.1 phone and the file format was in AMR and Audacity could not open or import the audio file. My workaround was to have VLC Media Player convert the AMR to an MP3 and then Audacity could open the file for editing. A video about Audacities advanced features and how to sort file formats that Audacity can not read would be very helpful.
First video I experienced was a video tutorial for this cookie company. I didn't do the "assignment" but the video helped me like none other. So when I saw this tutorial for a new thing I need to learn...had to watch. 1000% on brand...best eva tutorials!
I have worked in television production for over 20 years...producing and training others. I can say from experience this is an EXCELLENT beginner tutorial! Very well done Kevin.
Bro, I don't leave comments on RUclips. This is the best tutorial I have ever seen or used. I have never edited an audio file before and this is exactly what I needed!
I've tried multiple 'beginner' tutorials and Kevin delivers by far, the most easy to understand useful training. A true beginner tutorial. Thank you Kevin!
I use Audacity for more than 7 years, you video showed me some features that I did not explore till now. Thank you Kevin for this instruction video. You make a great teacher.
Okay, so then you should be able to help, everytime I import my audio it cut's off at around 50 seconds, and I've attempted every type of import. Please help
This is probably my favourite tutorial I've ever seen for anything ever. You're essentially teaching audio editing fundamentals with a fun, realistic, yet easy-to-follow example; I imagine a lot of these concepts & tools carry over to other audio editors as well. Thank you very much for this excellent beginner's tutorial :)
Hey Kevin, this was my first training session for Audacity, and I must say it was top-notch. It was very well done, and the instructions were clear. Thanks, man!
As a crusty old Broadcast Engineer I can say I have saved radio stations a fortune with Audacity instead of expensive audio editing software that does stuff they will never need. I never get time to master it or help out much once it is installed. I finally found Audacity. Came here and found YOU. I'm good to go now!!! Please, keep doing what your doing. You're educating, saving lives & money... Even thought not everyone tells you.

Loaded Audacity on my computer last night, and deleted it this morning, because, as a beginner to the world of DAW’s, I just could not find my way. Your video appeared on my feed this afternoon, Audacity is back on the Mac, and I am amazingly recording and editing with some level of confidence. Thank you, thank you, thank you! This is a most excellent video, tailored for beginners.
I'm trying to begin doing voice over work, and eventually possibly try recording music. After watching this video, I feel so much less confused/overwhelmed about how to edit my files. Your explanations were so easy to understand and very practical - thank you SO much for providing this tutorial!
I finally got Audacity to work. It was having freezing issues but learned that it was because of not updating my computer. Something so easy and took three hours to figure out. Suggestion for another video would be when we have issues with Audacity, freezing and not responding. Great videos, Kevin! Wish my Chemistry ones were as good as yours. Your voice is awesome!
Just wanting to give you a big thank you for presenting this video in a calm-easy-to-follow presentation. It has been many years since I tackled learning computer programs and a little hesitate to starting over again. You've given me the encouragement I needed to edit hundreds of talks, lectures and sessions to post for people to learn from. Thank you again for your help.
I think this was a very clear lesson. Kevin spoke clearly and didn't rush his presentation at any point. Today is my first venture into the music business, and this removes a lot of the uncertainties I have had about this new venture. I have a very large inventory of lyrics, and I need to dive right in on the music. Thanks a lot, from Easy Seeker
Discovering you on RUclips has been the best thing that ever happened. You have helped me quickly learn aspects of certain programs. Thanks and keep them coming.
Great job, Kevin, you never failed to provide such useful and comprehensive yet clear and concise tutorial. It is very well planned and the transitions of each and every new topic is gradual, and that makes your lesson a very pleasant experience. If viewers who had watched your other videos are not yet convinced to subscribe to your channel, this surely will.
Man! How often is it that you're left speechless after listening to a technical tutorial? I can only shake my head at the gift of teaching you have. Kevin, this is just amazing. I've been using audacity off and on for some years, but never increasing my knowledge very much. But now I feel I've grown exponentially in understanding the capability of Audacity. Thank you!
The clarity, relevance, information and level of engaging presentation in this tutorial is incredible. I wish every piece of training I've ever completed was delivered by Kevin. I think I would be twice as smart as I am!!! Thank you Kevin.
I have used Audacity for a number of years to edit and process audio for my website. Now I am planning to make my own RUclips videos, this video is just what I need.
Excellent tutorial, my man. This is probably this best type of tutorial one can get. Good verbal explanations, good visual shows, plus practical applications that are simple to build off of. Just excellent
I have been learning audacity, trial by fire. This video has helped me to learn more of the basic fundamentals to apply, as I continue to learn the craft of podcasting. Awesome job Kevin!
Thank you so much for this wonderful tutorial. A nice indepth beginner's guide that will see me one step closer to starting my podcasts. When the overwhelm is reduced, that's where you find great value.
This was incredibly helpful. I took one look at audacity, was immediately intimidated and never tried to use it. After watching this, I feel confident in my ability to use it for my business. Thank you so much!
OMG. I'm not sure if I ever witnessed someone on a RUclips video who gave such clear instructions. I almost gave up on Audacity until this video. Kevin, you are friggin awesome. Really!
I know very little about how audio recording and editing works and for a long time I have wanted to try recording my own podcast material and / or ASMR recordings. This video literally just helped me on a massive scale, super helpful, explained clearly, examples make sense, and most of all I don't feel stupid. You are a true hero. Thank you! - from one forever grateful audio amateur
Super clear and informative, thank you. "Compressor" was the thing I was hoping to learn about, but I learned at least 5 other neat things that's going to save me a ton of time going forward when editing my podcast. Thanks!

Wow as a Mac user I normally rely on Garageband but needed to check out Audacity for my next project. This is an absolutely fantastic tutorial covering every aspect to get you started. Love how you use a sample project to guide the viewer through all the necessary steps!
You know that a tutorial video is great when you smile at the end and kind of feeling confident that you can replicate what the tutor did. Thanks Kevin for this wonderful gem of a video.

I was overwhelmed when I first downloaded Audacity but with your help I've calmed down and feel confident I will be able to get comfortable with and eventually enjoy the process. Thanks much!
This was awesome! As a newer audiobook narrator, it was nice to get such clear explanations to a few parts of audacity that I hadn't figured out on my own. Thanks! ❤️
I was in a hurry to find some Adobe graphics program tutorials, noticed this completely non-related video in recommendations, clicked it and 40 minutes later sat mesmerised and thirsty for more. Now I'm late. Masterful presentation and delivery Kevin! :)
I purchased my equipment and thought I was ready to jump in and record! Little did I know how naïve I was. Feeling more than a little overwhelmed with the technology I sought out lots and lots of RUclips video tutorials before I found Kevin's. What a time saver and teacher. I think I am ready to really jump now into practicing. Thank you for the thoroughness of the lessons and the simplicity. Absolutely Subscribing for more lessons!

Hey Kevin, this was a really amazing rundown of the basic functionalities of Audaticy. I really loved this video. Im just getting started with my podcast and all the tips that you had mentioned here will surely help. cheers.
This is fantastic, Kevin. I come from video editing in Final Cut and Premiere Pro, but wanted to use audacity for simple podcast edits. This taught me everything I need, including the shortcuts. Thanks! 🙏🏻
Thank you for a clear and concise but pretty comprehensive introduction! Yours was the second intro video I found and so much better than the first. Everything I needed to piece together clips for a song, adjust levels, move clips, and add fade/compressor effects was covered. Keep it up!
I merely ape the mass of thank-you comments, agreeing that this the Best Tutorial I've ever had the privilege of learning from on the nets. A tour de force. I am subscribed!
Thank you so much! You have the ability to get right into the meat of the subject and explain it so that newbies like me can understand. What a gift you have, Kevin. You're a natural instructor.
3 years have gone by since this video was uploaded and my comment is only one of many below. But THANK YOU. I've been using Audacity on and off, now I can do so much more! I'll surely keep an eye on your channel.
This is how I started with the software and the exact same needs. It saved my sanity because that feature of hiss reduction worked really well. I really enjoy this software and your comments..pete
@@siri_yo British joke, it worked brilliantly but it is technically illegal even though I own the tapes I was copying so you say 'allegedly' or 'from a friend..' to deflect Justice from you🤞⚖️
Towards the end, you pointed out different possible effects, including lowering pitch. I have not started yet, but if I am narrating and I want different voices, can I record them as different files and adjust the pitch, then cut and paste them in place? Or is this just a nutty idea? Thanks!
great idea. yes you can. break tasks into steps. Open clip, review, edit, save X. Save as...X02, import 2nd clip, ...oh, and did I mention?... HAVE FUN!
Kevin, I have listened to a number of your training videos and they are always clear and precise. This one is no exception. Thank you from 'down under'
Thanks for the fantastic video. Explained in details for the beginners very well. I would like you to include also about how to slow down the audio or increase the speed of the speech. Once again thanks & regards
What a GREAT video! Really appreciate this. Do you have anything about how to connect different clips? I thought I had it and then it didn't work. TIA, Kevin!
I've watched a small handful of Audacity tutorials from different content creators thus far in my journey in learning how to use this software, and most of them either cover the exact same minor basics, without delving into the next level up of info from that, or they OVER jump info, skipping to things that are a little too advanced to cover immediately after introducing those minor basics....because they don't wanna take the time to be REALLY comprehensive, but this one was really great, in that it didn't skip that middle level, or next step level of info! You taught me some really great beginner editing tips and tricks that I found super helpful for the lever of learning that I'm at! Thank you!! I'll be saving this one to come back and reference if I forget things and will be scoping out your other videos and hope they are much like this in that step-by-step method of learning this software! 🙂
can you please cover how to do Punch In overdubs? you can use this to correct mistakes in speech or performance by re recording the original with a correction in the spot where the original contained the mistake, thereby overdubbing the mistake.
"punch in" is still a used technique, from analog days, but additional options r available w/ computers. You can leave the 1st take, edit it to reduce volume during your "punch in", then return volume up. Simply add an additional track. Record the punch-in there. Go slow. Learn basics. Have fun!
I love Audacity and used it a ton between 2012 and 2014. I am looking to jump back in but as I am using it on a new computer I needed some help remembering how to get back up and running. This was extremely helpful, thank you!
Kevin - I wanted to take a moment to express my appreciation for the exceptional quality of your recent video on voice over acting. As someone who is just starting out in this field, I found your video to be an invaluable resource that provided a clear and concise step-by-step guide to follow. I have been able to successfully implement your teachings on my own and have found them easy to follow. Your content has been instrumental in helping me develop my skills and knowledge in this industry, and I am grateful for the time and effort you have invested in creating such informative material. I look forward to continuing to learn from you as I progress in my career.

Excellent tutorial, Kevin. It'd be great to have a few more tutorials about different features in the program.
More to come!
Thank you SO. much for this amazing tutorial! :)
The noise reduction effect is good for reducing tape hiss for those of us transferring from such old tech (or so I've been told... 😂)
This is how I started with the software and the exact same needs. It saved my sanity because that feature of hiss reduction worked really well. I really enjoy this software and your comments..pete
Now that's an idea. I am in the process of transferring my old cassette albums to mp3. Your suggestion is most helpful John. Thanks much.
I'm doing the same thing and it works very well on old tapes. Did it not work for you?
@@siri_yo British joke, it worked brilliantly but it is technically illegal even though I own the tapes I was copying so you say 'allegedly' or 'from a friend..' to deflect Justice from you🤞⚖️
@@johnfairhurstReviews Ah ok. Fell off the back of truck kinds but not really. I have a truck-full of tapes and CD's that I own, just downsizing...
Finally, someone who explains clearly and slowly !! I will begin again recording my novel. Thanks.
some of the features shown in the video i don't have in my audicy idk what to do. any ideas ?
This video was made 3 years ago, if you recently downloaded it, it seems that some of the features have been moved. You just have to look around.
Check out the time stamp 35:20 he mentions Speed, briefly
What a GREAT video! Really appreciate this. Do you have anything about how to connect different clips? I thought I had it and then it didn't work. TIA, Kevin!
"Import" or "Open" different 'clips'. Usually a .wav or .aif (mac), mp3, flac...)
Have fun!
Outdated info as of 2023. The layout has changed.
This is by far the best tutorial for Audacity I've come across, Thanks a lot.
I love Audacity and used it a ton between 2012 and 2014. I am looking to jump back in but as I am using it on a new computer I needed some help remembering how to get back up and running. This was extremely helpful, thank you!
Excellent tutorial, with a precisely selected scenario, allowing a fluid and nice demo. Thanks.
I have to do a podcast as part of a college project and this has given me absolutely everything I need to get it done, thank you!
This is old now. So much has changed in Audacity. An updated video would be AMAZING! We are on Audacity 3.7 these days
Planning to update! Thanks for the note 🙏
