Try those 2 programs to make it more bearable ;-) * Windows Update Minitool to disable Autoupdates * O&O SHutUp10 to disable almost all telemetry (Copilot and Recall included!)
if anything, the similarity to windows is a bad thing because theyll treat linux like windows when its something different. no one uses a mac (well no one should anyways), with the expectation that it will act like windows 11, and no one should use linux and expect it to act like windows. mint is great because it gives you the same FEELING and respects your intelligence to know stuff will be slightly different
graphical similarity may be a good thing - if someone's got used to a particular look and where things are, then it may come easier to use something that's similar. But I fully agree that one should not use something expecting it to perform like something else.
i beg to differ, some people might just want to use something that looks like windows, feels like windows but doesn't hog ram and have spyware, i would like having a windows like experience inside linux, there is a great need for an alternative user friendly linux distro to replace windows 10.

Windows users don't need a salvation in a system that looks like Windows. It must run what windows runs. So Premiere, Photoshop, games, with anticheat support or especially cracked ones, dev software like Visual studio etc. The salvation we can do ourselves with debloating, or by just simply not caring about telemetry.

I would definitely completely switch if they had good bitmap art software (GIMP kinda sucks I'll be real). Hell even if there were just compatible versions of Adobe software (that I definitely DO pay for btw). I know there are emulators for this kind of thing but I'm not sure they'd be as smooth as just being able to run them natively.
Nah, not until it's not such a mess. Infinite amount of distros, each half baked and weird af, no proper software support (SolidWorks, Adobe suite, AutoCAD...) . Open sourve sucks as soon as you get into the real world and just need stuff to work, not spend an hour writong into command line because there is NO other way to use the OS

The reason (IMO) why Linux has never caught on like chrome Desktop is that it does not have a standard interface U.I. per say between the different Distros that so many people are use to in the Windows or Mac world. The other is the killer app of gaming and social media. Most people like to just go to the store and buy things. Haven't tried 22 yet but just got on the 6.8 kernel (21.X still ships with 5.15 for whatever reason). I doubt I'll ever get off Mint for my daily-drivers unless maybe there's something particularly compelling about an official SteamOS release.

I still use 10 I don't know whether I should upgrade in October 2025 or switch to Linux.
