    Hi Norby! About the battery; I think Renault-Nissan Dacia are using for Spring the "old" battery which was used in Nissan Leaf first gen. fase II (the 30 kwh Leaf). That is why it has such a big buffers (top & bottom). The warranty is for the advertised capacity (26.8 kwh/27.4 kwh). So, as you said, there will be needed alot of "beating" to degrade the battery enough to change it under warranty conditions.
    Cheers

      Hey. The battery is not the same as the old leaf 30kwh battery. This is a different manufacturer. They have big hidden capacity to avoid warranty claims in the first 8 years until the battery is under warranty. :)

    The charger shows how much kw was used for charging and it is not the actual capacity of the battery. During charging, there are unavoidable energy losses and the actual capacity is measured when the battery is fully charged, so it is measured how many kW the battery actually delivered, not how many kW were spent on charging.
    One more thing, this fact that the cells are charged over 4.2V is scary, ( 5:46 )and what is even scarier is that the battery has no cooling or heating. We know that lithium ion degrades instantly if it is charged while the cell is below 0 degrees Celsius.
    Likewise, the cells age considerably if they are charged above 4.15V

    Hi Norbert, very good video and very useful info.
    About the battery warranty, when the car is delivered, we get a document "Fisa de intretinere si garantie" containing the car VIN number and the start date. One entry in this document is:
    "Garantie baterie de tractiune: 8 ani 120000 Km (kilometraj nelimitat pentru primii 2 ani)" and the end date - which is in 2029 for those who got the car in 2021.
    But it is true, the 75% remaining charge capacity does not appear to be present in any official document. We need to clarify this with Dacia.

    Hello,
    For the warranty I can add something.
    In France at least, when you buy the Spring, in general terms of sale, we can see for the traction battery "96 month or 120000km (at the first of the two terms reached)" and "the battery warranty covers gradual loss of battery capacity as soon as it falls below 75% of the initial battery capacity"

      Hi. Yes, i had other people telling the same details although in Germany it seems like there are other therms but I'm not 100% sure yet. I have some question: I need to pick up my Dacia Spring from 400 km away at around 0 degree Celsius ( current temp in Germany) What would be optimum strategy to discharge (20%?) and recharge (80%?). How many km can I travel at 80-90 kph. How long would it take to recharge at 0 degree Celsius? Greetings from Germany! Akbar

    • @electzro
      @electzro  Год назад

      hey, sorry for the late reply. do you still need advice? you can calculate 100km range at 100km/h in this winter weather. the car can do more for sure than 100km at 100km/h but you need some reserve to be on the safe side in case some charger is not working or something. so if you get the car fully charged, about 3 stops of 35-45 mins each, and you're home. don't charge to 100%. charge to 90% while you're on your way home. safe travels :)

  • @marcusbiller867
    @marcusbiller867 Год назад +2

    There is no 1% loss on any battery. The lowest charge loss you have on 800V is 4-5% and this is 250V so the difference is huge. You can expect around 8% on DC probably even more. So 29.21kWh added means the net is about 26,8 or exactly as claimed...

    • @electzro

      hi. it's the best option you could do if you want to turn it off at approximately some %, for example 80%. other option is to just put a timer on your phone and go and stop the charging manually or if you're charging over night, you can use a timer socket and schedule the START of the charging some time in the night so that by morning the level is at around 80% and then you can stop it manually as it's recommended.

    Morning, fascinating evaluation of the numbers and it sounds reasonible to me. But usually the "hidden" percentages of the battery can not be used. That´s the first time I hear about that. How to distinguish between the gross and the net capacity then? And how to calculate the energy loss? Based on WLTP test cycle (max. AC charging to get the OBL in the working point) and the figures they are based on (gross 28.4kWh/net 26.8kWh, range 230km, consumption 13.9kWh) the charged energy is about 32kWh, which means losses of about 19.3%. But if the net (the usable) capacity is much more (15%) -> 29.2kWh, the loss is about 10%, that´s very good. Anyhow in your evaluation you did DC charging so the losses are in the charger. Do you have the chance to reload at an AC charger from "dead" to the real end of the charging and report the real re-loaded energy? Thank you. Kindly Stephan
    BTW: The usual figure for the guaranteed capacity is 70% (in Germany). The range usually varies: My "old" Ioniq (28kWh) has 8y/200000km until 70%. The new BMW i4 has 8y/160000km until 70%, same as the Renault Megane e-Tech. Smart EQ forfour 8y/100000km until 70%, the e-Up family 8y/160000km until 70%. For this 75%, in case it is, for the Dacia is not that bad 🙂

    • @electzro
      @electzro  Год назад +2

      Morning. thanks. indeed, the gross capacity is usually completely hidden and can't be used up just by driving (discharging) or charging to 100% however it looks like this is not the case with the Dacia Spring. all the data points to a gross capacity of ~30kWh. As you can see the car was charged from 0% after the car already stopped moving. the charger reported over 29kWh when it disconnected the charging process. DC charging losses are not that high, usually below 5% and most of it is between the AC line from the grid and the charger it self. Between the Charger and the car it is usually minimal and can be ignored. Another thing that shows this is the fact that in the video i did before this, i drove the car on 0% until it stopped (check it out). I managed to drive 40km on 0% with an average consumption of around 9kWh/100km if i remember correctly. doing the math that's about 3.6kWh on 0%. 3.6+26.8kWh = 30.4kWh. I did not have a chance to do the same charge cycle with AC charging, also not sure how that would help. AC charging losses are very high and are hard to use for such measurements. some cars can loose up to 20% of the energy while charging on AC. - yes it's usually 70... 75%, it's good that they're not hiding something like 50% but my point was that for a lot of people this is their first EV and have little to no knowledge of such details. for sure it's not very important in the first 3-5 years of the car's life but still it should be easier to find in my opinion. hiding this detail so much makes no sense especially that it's the industry standard, they're not offering some bad % numbers. - all the best

If you use the simple wall socket slow charger that comes with the car then at 2.3kw / hour (230v 10A =2.3kw) it will take about 7h to charge this 60% (20 to 80%). I don't know how much it will cost because electricity prices are different everywhere but you can just check how much you pay for 1kwh and do calculate that x 16. So if you pay for example 0.2 euro/kwh than it will cost 3.2 eur to charge 60% at home. With 60% battery and 14kwh average consumption you can expect a little over 100km of range.

      If the 230V charger is enough for you for your everyday usage i would continue to use it. So for example that charger charges about 18kwh in 8 hours (about 60% in 8hours). If you only use 30-40% usually a day, that charger is enough. If you need more than 60% each day than consider looking for a higher powered charger in my opinion. Regarding charging to 80%. When you plug in the car, the display shows aproximative time to 80% and 100%. I recommend that you buy a smart socket plug (make sure it can handle 16A 230V) and you can control then thr carge via wifi or even set on / off times) so for example if the time to 80% is 5 hours, you can set the smart plug to shut off after 5 hours. • @electzro
      @electzro  2 года назад +3

      Glad you liked it. Like i said, the battery is much bigger than Dacia / Renault says so they will lock out more and more of the actual battery as time goes on but the user won't see this. The warranty is for 75% of the capacity they claim not the total capacity so you would need to use up 40% of the battery in just 8 years or 120.000 km which is very unlikely. If you try and still have let's say 80% of the capacity at 120.000 km they won't change the battery and also you'll have a quite used up battery. So in my opinion it's better to take care of it if possible. Also good for resale walue if the soh is good

      @randomstuff-cu4of 10 месяцев назад

      as someone who works with li ion battery packs on a hobby level, yes it will impact battery degradation in all but the most moderate of climates. Charging li ion batteries at any sensible speed while they are below 5 degrees is practically a death sentence since it causes internal lithium electroplating. And as far as i can tell this car does still charge when cold. And also on the other side of the heat spectrum, leaving the car in a hot parking lot in the direct sun, especially when fully charged or close to fully charged, is also a very quick death sentence to the battery. If either of those situations is common in your use, i would be very surprised to see the battery last longer than 3-4 years

    • @randomstuff-cu4of
      @randomstuff-cu4of 10 месяцев назад

      7kw or a C-rate of ~0.25C is still not great at 0 degrees c and in the average Latvian winter of -15 and below, it would practically be a one charge death sentence for the entire HV pack. Even without an active thermal management system, they should have at least included a simple resistive battery heating pad.
