As someone who’s had iPads of both sizes, I can say that (personally) I prefer the 11 inch. This is largely because I carry my iPad with a corporate laptop. When I had a 12.9, it was a nightmare to fit both in one bag, let alone carry them around all day. I would also say that if you take a lot of notes on the go (as opposed to a desk), 11 inch is to go for as 12.9 is just too big and too heavy to be held in one hand. Nonetheless, great video.
Ali: "If you're a student, firstly, I would say that you really don't need an iPad Pro. Just get an iPad Air, please." Me: Well, okay then, since you asked politely.
There are good reasons for students to go fo the iPad Pro, given they have the budget to do so. Not only does the iPad Pro have a nicer screen with FaceID and a much better camera but it also supports the second gen Apple Pencil, which is sooooo much better than the first gen. If you can afford it then go for it!
Nah, most viewers understand that video games, instagram, netflix. and youtube (sometimes not) are a waste of time and we'd rather work on achieving our dreams
Mohamed Osama "achieve our dreams" is why anxiety and depression has risen dramatically, young people get belted with "achieve your dreams" speeches which has become a surprising poison on the Mind, when we feel like we are not striving toward some sort of goal or failing to achieve it than we feel worthless. When ambition went beyond having a family and living the simple life on the family farm it has had a huge negative effect on mental health.
@Xx Minari Galaxy xX Man, now that's too much of a pessimistic behavior. Study, get a good job and eventually you'll have money to buy stuff like this. If you have access to Internet and follow channels such as this one, your situation probably is not that terrible
I feel the same way. Doesn't mean I have the discipline to follow that principle as much as I should. It's the difference between success and floundering however.
The size of the 12.9 inch device might not make much of a difference in terms of the feel of carrying it in hand or using it while out and about, but it makes a big difference in terms of the size of bag required to port it to and fro (even more so now with the Magic Keyboard case). I have been so much more productive since making the switch from a 13 inch MacBook Air to an 11 inch iPad Pro because my primary device is now a part of my everyday carry rather than something I grab only when I have planned to bring along my work bag.
I’m a full time biology student and as someone who is constantly taking notes for hours a day, I definitely would recommend the IPad Pro 2018 12.9 inches. The bigger screen is perfect for me to split screen the books app (where I keep my ebooks/textbooks) and my GoodNotes app. My friend who has the 11 inch often complains about the note taking aspect as there isn’t much room. Definitely recommend the iPad to students it has changed my life!
@@CrypticControl absolutely! And I got the 256 GB which is plenty. Make sure to get a paper like screen cover so it feels like you’re taking notes on paper
BJC T agreed, I just upgraded from 11 inch model to the 12.9 and it is bigger but I actually like that their’s more display to view now for streaming movie’s, web browsing etc. any one reading go for 12.9!😎
Jens de Fries Yeah it’s still a good size. But for note-taking, watching videos, split screen and gaming with a controller the 12.9” just suits me better
I was confused about 11” or 12.9” iPad to buy... Always have this dilemma. I was watching a video yesterday comparing 11” and 12.9” which explained who needs to buy what. It’s simple: If you want a laptop that you want to use as tablet sometimes then buy 12.9”. If you want a tablet that you want to use a laptop sometimes then buy 11”. I am buying a 11” iPad Pro because it’s my consumption device which I will use a laptop few times a day :-). As always, amazing video Ali Bhai
Did the same, have a 15" mbp and wanted something in between my phone and laptop that I can bring on the plane as well as draw when I feel like. However, I was 100% sure I would go for the 12.9, the only reason I got a 11 was after watching some reviews and realising it might be an option, and most of all, you can get a killer price on a used one of you look for it. My 11" 256 went for 1/3 of a used 12.9 due to a broken camera, and cheaper than an iPad air, so I went for it. I'm very happy with the size of it but I use it for surfing, drawing, media consumption and it's especially important that I can use it on the plane and in the airport. (Do not have the keyboard btw since I don't need it) Anyway, I love it, but would probably have loved an 12.9" as well. If I paid full price for a new one today, I would seriously consider the 12.9, even though I'm not sure it would be a better fit.
Nick Dou it’s a lot bigger than I expected and thought when I was in the Apple store. But I guess it’s like when you check out TVs in the store, when you have something to compare it to right next to it, it’s quite different than when you just have that one in front of you.
i’m in nursing school and been using my ipad 6 gen ever since classes transitioned to online!! all my textbooks, notes, etc are all on my ipad. i never picked up a pencil for 4 months. i caved and i got the 12.9 pro it’s definitely such a good investment for school!
I’m also a nursing student and currently using Ipad 6th gen. I’m thinking of switching 12.9 pro for screen real estate for multitasking when doing notes and reading. Do you think switching from the 6th to the 12.9 pro was worth it as a nursing student?
@@user-om9rr9fn4e ud probably get shocked at how big it looks at first but not in a bad way more like in "awe" type of way. But being used to it now, i cant imagine how a smaller one would look as the 12.i looks completely normal sometimes even small. I use it all the to take notes/drawing/watching and i must say that sometimes when i multitask it does look small so making it even smaller personally would be a goner. I dont really understand why people say its not portable/too big, it can fit on my backpack as well as the smaller version of my normal school backpack. If ur looking for a bigger phone, the 11’’ might be the one however if youre going to use it for productive things i definitely recommend the bigger one. If price is a concern just get the ipad air ull save a lot more.
I'm a fairly recent nursing school graduate. I highly recommend the 12.9 if you're in school. Get all your books on your iPad and get the good notes app. Now that I am done I'm selling my 12.9 pro and getting an 11 inch pro. Simply because now I need to be more mobile and am using the device more so for recreation rather than work. Best of luck to you.
I have a MacBook Air and recently ordered iPad Pro 12.9 for my nursing pre-reqs, I have four more classes until the program. I am so excited to use the iPad for notes and books and then my MacBook Air for lectures and other things too. Super extra but a few of my friends did the MacBook Air iPad Pro duo and have said nothing but positive things.
Two things I never hear anyone say about the two iPads. The 11 inch has a wider aspect ratio than the 12.9 inch ipad. This wasn't the case back when the two iPads were 10.5 and 12.9. Because of the wider aspect ratio of the 11 inch, the actual video surface area when watching a youtube video is much closer between the 11 and the 12.9. The 11 inch displays less black bars than the 12.9 inch due to the aspect ratio thus if you're purely going for video consumption, the 12.9 inch isn't mandatory. Second, the 12.9 inch allows for the full sized class of apps during multitasking in 50/50 split view. When you use a 50/50 split on the 11inch, both the windows are effectively iphone apps side by side. In the 12.9 inch however, both the apps are shrunken down ipad apps thus you'll see more settings, buttons and options.
I’d like to know how many iPads you have sold for Apple... I think we would be surprised how many students (like me) bought iPads because of your influence.
Will Duff count me on that list! When this whole quarantine is over I’m going straight to the Apple store to make sure I want the 12.9 and then I’m buying!
Dude I completely LOVED that you shutdown the price argument in the beginning. It makes me so upset when reviewers talk about price. It should not be something that's reviewed because it's so subjective. Products should be reviewed for what they are by themselves and it's up to the consumer to determine if it's 'worth it' or not to them. So bravo for that. I really appreciate it.
Lmfao true! I thought it was funny that in the psychology part he says he feels more productive using the 12.9 over the 11. Wouldnt this is a new experiment allow the “honeymoon phase” phenomenon help one come to that conclusion?
One aspect of the 12.9 that I like is when it comes to reading technical books and magazines - it really makes a difference in viewing diagrams and images. That may be subjective (it is), but it does make a difference to me.
I agree with you. The 12.9-inch is perfect for reading and work. For watching RUclips videos, I use my Samsung Galaxy tab S9 Plus. The Samsung has a super oled screen, which is perfect for watching videos, series, and movies.
The psychology point is so interesting, because now that I think about it, the role that it plays is huge. Ever since my 11inch arrived, I’ve essentially stopped using my phone entirely... but instead of watching RUclips or Netflix, I’ve been editing photos, writing more, and getting back into researching. It’s become somewhat of a homebase, a good middle ground between my phone and laptop. Plus, my hands are ridiculously small -_-
I want a friend like Ali. Your intellectually-driven excitment (literally bouncing in your seat when touching on certain points) beams through my consumption device and inspires me 10-times over to keep pushing forwards with direction and grace. Thank you for sharing your insight and unique individuality--both quite lacking on YT these days; esp. around the techie communities.
"I'd much rather get something done than watch a tv show." Me, watching this youtube video instead of getting things done: ... Yeah! ... getting things done! That's.. that's a thing, isn't it.
One important use case where the 11" beats the 12.9" is writing notes while on the wards as a clinical year medical student. It's such a chore holding a 12.9" with one hand while writing, the 11" makes a world of difference in weight.
Since you are the only one talking about taking hand notes on the iPad I wanted to ask how do you manage to take notes while on a table with the 12.9 without the 15 to 20 degrees the iPad 10.5 had with it case
lightspheonix I also take handwritten notes (econ major, can’t even image trying to do those graphs on a computer) and I’m a little confused as to what you’re asking? I’ve never used the 10 inch or had the 15/20 degree thing that you’re talking about but would love to answer if I actually knew what you were asking lol!
12.9 is good just in quarantine times becuz portability doesn’t mean a lot in these days.. End of the day, iPad isn’t a computer and many of us have a laptop 15’’ or 34’’ screen as you. And we use when we don’t need to use computer. That’s why portability too important for me. But if iPad Pro will be your main device of course 12.9 will be good choice.
sercan e Right. I just bought the 10.5 model because of portability and I own a laptop. I think the 12.9 would’ve been fine, but I wanted something small and easy to carry with me.
Mate I'm a high school drop out but inching ever closer to get my business off the ground, you've been a newly discovered inspiration for me to change my relationship with my devices for creativity. I love your approach of using your time for productivity all the time.
so i have been using my 12.9 m2 pro for about a month now and here are some of my thoughts: i absolutely love it. the extra screen is a lot more valuable than you think. try using the 12.9 for an hour then use the smaller air or 11 inch and you will feel the big difference. as a student who has to constantly move between tabs and view several pdfs at once, the split screen on the 12.9 is considerably nicer than on the smaller ipads. i even think that the split screen could be bigger (as my laptop is 15 inch so i’m quite used to a LARGE screen). i also feel like my eyes are less strained due to the big size. i also noticed how i barely have to zoom and pinch when taking notes which i find highly annoying. furthermore, many people complain about portability, size and weight so i expected a drastic difference. but when i came into the apple store to try each product, i was surprised by how LIGHT and perfect the size of the 12.9 is. it’s only “heavy” (like ever so slightly) when you COMPARE IT TO the airs or 11in pros, but by itself, it is relatively light and not that big. i initially even thought the 12.9 was not that big, i even had to double check that it was the 12.9 (this is a true story). i was surprised by how small the 11 in looked in real life and how crammed the screen looks. now if you’re an aspiring artist, designer, or video editor, then the 12.9 should be the only choice you’re thinking of ;) . nowadays, online classes are so common, especially here in korea thus it’s common to always have the lecture on and the powerpoint slides of the lecture on as well, thus the 12.9 split screen works wonders in these situations. a lot of love to the airs and the 11 inches though, i guess it’s just really annoying how many people on online communities and reddit likes to bash the 12.9 for being too big/heavy/not portable when the difference is not that big. i find my 12.9 VERY light, portable and i bring it EVERYWHERE.
@@alwayscj21 I've heard the 11 inches one is easier to take notes on the go when you don't have a surface to write on then you can hold it in one hand and write with the other whereas the 12.9 would be difficult for the same
I had the 11” and it served me incredibly well in school. I ended up gifting it to my grandma because she really wanted one and with the scholarship money I earned I bought the 12.9” and man did that extra real estate make a huge difference! It’s just so much easier to multitask with all my windows, usually chrome, word/docs, and a RUclips video in the corner. Great video :)
When I first got my 12.9 inch iPad Pro I regretted it because of how big it was but now having it for almost 2 years I couldn’t imagine having the smaller screen. Specifically because of the split screen for note taking like you mentioned. I’m in medical school so this is huge for me! But I also just love my iPad Pro in general. Such an amazing tool as a student.
I am in this very same predicament at the moment: I've been using the 9.7 inch tablet and want to upgrade. I do like to use split screen and multitask but the £300 price differential between the two is hard to justify. However, that extra screen space is so useful! Did you have enough money to justify buying it yourself when you did?
Ali : "probably going to waste time watching a RUclips video" Me: skips homework to watch tons of video about ipads, a device I'm never going to buy anyway 🤣
I just ordered the 12.9 inch iPad right before I watched this video. I decided to order the larger one because I do a lot of sketching and painting and am thinking about going digital. So personally I thought it would be better to have a larger screen.
It doesn't seem like two extra inches would mean much and maybe for some people it doesn't, but I actually had both the 11 and 12.9 iPad Pros (used the 12.9 for gigging/sheet music) and outside of gigging I greatly preferred the 11. I'm a cycle commuter and the 12.9 doesn't even fit into my ultra-light backpack but the 11 slips in easily. Even in my main backpack the 11 fits into the secondary pocket meanwhile the 12.9 doesn't and it finds a way to awkwardly eat up a bunch of room in the main pocket. The 12.9 is only a couple inches bigger on the diagonal, but if we're talking total surface area then it has over 25 square inches more surface area over the 11, which is pretty significant. The difference in size between the two is 31% and for context the difference in size between the smallest iPhone, the SE and the largest, the 12 MAX is 30%. There's also a 30% difference in weight between the 11 and 12.9 Also, since the 12.9 is so much bigger, when you one-hand it, it acts like a longer lever so it feels significantly heavier than the 11, way more-so than the raw weight would allude to. The 12.9 for me quickly becomes annoying to one-hand whereas I can one-hand the 11 all day long (I often one-hand when using it in portrait mode with the iPad in one hand and the pencil in the other). I have no dog in the race since I had both and of course it's all preference (it's great that we have a choice!) but for me the portability advantage of the 11 is a real thing. So much so that I sold both to get the 2021 M1 and despite money not being an issue and the 12.9 having a much nicer screen, I automatically went for the 11 without hesitation. Anyway, sorry for the huge wall of text, just doing my part to justify the 11 :) Great video and you made some really solid points!
The psychology point really sets you apart within all your content. The artistic faculty to recognize what's occurring beyond the tech specs and what's affecting your psychology, which is probably the far most important thing.
I really appreciate Ali’s psychological self awareness. It’s so true that associating a device with consumption makes it really hard to stay focused on work while using it. I’m definitely bearing this in mind while deciding what to purchase next. I think knowing one thing is for entertainment and being upfront with myself about that takes away a lot of inner conflict. Opening another item only for the purposes of creating means my hands aren’t programmed to tab and scroll there. And if I do want to support my work with listening to music or a comforting voice, I can keep that separation by playing it on my phone. Really helpful to hear him start this train of thought for me. (And even the bit he said about how we justify our purchases was insightful and prompted awareness!)
This is very cool for me to see other workplaces that heavily use smart tablets. I never thought about the health field. I’m in construction and have the 12.9 iPad Pro to view plans on, be able to mark down issues, view 3D models, attend virtual meeting and many more. It’s always eye opening to me to see how other people use the same devices and tools and different settings. Great video!
Very very good review. You are totally right about taking into account the psychology as well, too few people do it. I got the 11 inch when I started uni because I also have a 15 inch laptop, so all my essay/desk work was done on my laptop. My iPad was mainly to take notes or do readings, and I wanted it to be light because I biked with it every day to campus. Also for the rare occasions where I gamed, 11 inch is easier to hold in my hands than 12.9 inch. And I still think I don't regret it. But if the iPad Pro was my main/only work device, then yes it would 100% be 12.9 rather than 11 inch. Just one comment on the student recommendation: mostly, you're right - most students don't need an iPad Pro, and too many people tend to go for the best option out there when they don't really need it. But I think focusing on the extra power of the Pro is mistaken: most people will prefer the Pro to the non-pro because of the screen size. In a similar way as the 12.9 is more comfortable to work with than the 11, even the 11 inch is more comfortable to work with than the 10.5, 10.2 or 9.7 inch iPads. Anyway, good job Ali for your work! You've gone a long way, and I still remember the great iPad Pro videos you were making as a student when I was considering getting one for myself for uni!
As I’m very lucky to own both 12,9 and 11, i can say i tend to use my 12,9 inch most of the time. 11 inch is handy for travelling though, it can fit in my medium/ small handbag. It is just so much better and comfortable for my eyes with a bigger screen.
I’m a full time college student and surprisingly enough, there are programs that run on the iPad Pro that don’t run on the lower level iPads lol (I’m a business major). I have the 12.9 2018 and it’s been really great. The 12.9 is equivalent to carrying a standard notebook so it really makes no difference with regards to portability. It’s also a lot better for split screen for note taking and what not. It’s also been great for gaming and content indulging. My bf has the 11 inch version and when comparing them... let’s just say I’m happy I spent the additional $100.
MacBook Pro has more available professional apps than IPad Pro. But many apps in iPad Pro is more optimized and can run faster than MacBook Pro. If you want the speed, go for the IPad Pro, if you want the variety, go for the MacBook Pro.
What Ali didn't really say was that he grew into the 12.9 (he didn't make a poor choice by going to the 11 first, his commitment and size of demands increased eg creating bigger documents bigger illustrations etc and most of all familiarity with the IPad and its apps to do more and bigger tasks). If you are new or light IPad user, general note taking, productivity the 11 is fine, let your experience and demands decide what you need for the next IPad once your demands and familiarity settles towards what you really need or is what you have enough for now.
I’m a teacher and use my iPad Pro for all of my teaching, especially now that we’re teaching from home!! Normally walking around a classroom connected to the projector, the 11” makes sense because I can write holding the iPad in one hand more easily
I’m also a teacher, and I think an iPad Pro is perfect for teaching, where I’m on my feet most of the day and using it to take attendance, do assessment, projecting to the screen. It does that better than a laptop can, and then when I do sit down to plan and grade, the iPad can do that too. I chose the 12.9, though. I like that it’s almost exactly the same dimensions as a sheet of paper.
Just one thought to add to the longevity: I am still using the iPad Air 2, I’ve had it since January 2017 and the device is from 2014. The device is still giving me all I need to work as a teacher and not long ago it was the only device to work on for over two weeks (correcting works, giving tasks, communication with students/parents) and with the keyboard and the new mouse support, the device is running very well. So buying the latest iPad Air will not mean 4 but more like 6 years of easy-job-done. Don't let that be the decisive factor:)
I bought my iPad Air 2 on launch day in 2016 on the same day as my iPhone 6. It’s lived in its case it’s whole life and the thing just won’t die. It’s outlived 3 of my iPhones since then. The best Apple device I have ever owned. It’s more than paid for itself many times over.
4:51 Wow the comparison you made between the 12.9-inch and 11-inch about how many paragraphs were able to be shown at once on both devices was stellar 10/10
Recently ordered the 11 inch 2020 iPad Pro. Typing on it right now, and I can confirm that is it definitely not too small to have one window for slides and one for writing notes. Also, it is much more portable and can be used anywhere. The 12.9 inch is more of a laptop replacement, whereas, the 11 inch is more of a traditional iPad with all the benefits of an iPad Pro. Btw, Im planning on getting the 14 inch MacBook Pro so that is also why I couldn’t justify the £200 jump for another 13 inch screen.
Oh yes, after a year with the 11" Pro I realise I should've gotten the bigger one. The form factor appeared not to be an issue, there's only one photography bag (actually my favourite..but oh, well..) where the 12.9" wouldn't fit, but all other stated advantages are there. I did use the multitasking more than I thought, I do miss a bit of more drawing/editing area, and if I didn't have my 11" on a company lease for 3 years, I'd switch. Ali is right, the 11" gets _all_ the job done, it's just this little extra that'd make a difference. Since I simply don't have the cash I'll happily continue using the 11" because, hey, it's just as fantastic as the first day I've got it. And I still enjoy using the old iPad mini 2 for pure consumption and my Kindle reader, lovely!
You make some great points here. I bought both the 11 and 12.9 to compare then return one. If you’re gonna lug a tablet around anyway, might as well have the better screen. Now, if you’re a bag of money, get the 12.9 then maybe also get and carry around the Air or standard iPad when out and about.
"The battery life of the 12.9 inch is 1 or 2 hours better than the 11 inch". This is like the second time I've heard ali say this and it is not true, if you check the battery drain test videos on youtube, the 11 inch pro has the best battery out of all the ipads.
I think screen off time is a key factor when measuring this. Battery Drain tests are more realistic results to continuous use. Not use where you may leave the device for a few hours off. 12.9 has better screen off battery. Of course I’d prefer more screen on time, but technically he’s not wrong.
Battery drain test all categories including stand by time..... Ali is so much happy to have new ipad 12.9inch test he is forgetting he is comparing 2 year old model with newer one... Old ipad battery would anyway be old and be fast discharging 😂
got the 11" first, thinking that the 2" less arent much of a difference. I am an artist and use the ipad for that mostly and I was really wrong. The 12.9" is much bigger and feels much better to use for that. So I ordered that now and will sell my old 11".
So what you really wanted to say is that you just wanted a new experience - pure psychology. Be interesting to see what you think when the novelty wears away. The 6 month review will be really interesting.
Switching to 12.9 from 11.0 because whatever you said made so much sense. I was debating about it for some time. Your video’s so detailed, it just helped made me make the quick decision. Man, you’re good!!
Ali Abdaal classically sad. I mean you really deserve what you own : you worked for it. I genuinely don’t understand people that denigrates you for this. Btw will you buy the new keyboard for the iPad ?
You're so right in taking the psychological aspect under consideration.. It's a shame that the RUclips community focuses only on numbers and gimmicky 'new features'
Something I wanted to add after thinking about it. We started our own little RUclips channel, mostly vlogging and I’m actually using my iPad Pro 11 inch to edit all of our videos. The reasoning on me buying the iPad Pro wasn’t even to video edit, I just needed an entertainment device that was really good for a trip I was taking. But almost 2 years later I’m now using it for video editing and I definitely can’t wait to upgrade to the 12.9 inch, I definitely sit down and now think, let’s get some work done rather than let me scroll endlessly lol
Folks I’ve owned both and here’s the answer. You want the 11 inch model. The 12.9 inch is too large to carry around and the magic keyboard weighs more than the iPad itself. So be smart get the smaller sized IPad. Then either get a keyboard and mouse and regular smart folio or get the magic keyboard which prob costs more than that combo at 299. Only reason to get the 12.9 is if its your main computer and you’re not moving locations that often and in that case I suggest getting the M1 MacBook instead. Course no video is going to say that I just had to find out myself for you all.
I am a Product design student and the 12.9 pro has helped me soo much and the extra screen space is so crucial for sketching and the iPad means I can have a all in one computer other than cad models.
Just found this guy’s channel and holy bonkers I love the fact that he outlines his video at the start and tells us what to expect like a god damn meeting. THANK YOU WILL SUBSCRIBE to his videos of things I can put afford 😂
Out of all the tech youtubers out there, you are definitely a league of your own, your videos has sense and depth not just like tip of the iceberg, you’re the real deal. 👌🏼👋🏼
I bought the mini thinking I would use it more for my art and behold I use it more for consumption than any thing else and I also digital plan, so I decided to get the 12.9 very happy I did! I gave the mini to my daughter for school!
I’m going to show my ignorance here LOL… I have only use a MacBook Pro laptop What is the difference between a tablet and a notebook? What I want to do is to do a split screen and put my manuscript on the left side and make a screenplay on the right side. I think I should get an iPad Pro instead of another MacBook Pro. Thank you for your help
So the whole points is a bigger screen. As far as I know, the internals are literally identical. Also the 11 inch has a better screen definition being smaller as both have the same ppi density.
This comment!! I just wanted to know the best one for taking notes on. Dude said there’s no difference with portability and it’s gonna be in my backpack anyways unless I’m at home. Gonna stick with 12.9” thx
Janski Tech no, if they have the same ppi then they have the same screen quality. If they have the same resolution but different screen sizes, then the smaller one will have higher ppi and better quality.
you could always just sell it for as much as you can and use that to buy the 12.9, or get over it like an adult and just wait until you can justify upgrading
my heart says 12.9” but my wallet says black and white kindle
Mine says ipod nano
Mine says etch a sketch! 🤷🏽♀️😂😂

Y'all got wallets?
My wallet says pen and paper

actually, that's me too hahahahaha
There’s more crap tv out there than there is good tv. Especially on Netflix.
How relatable!

The size of the 12.9 inch device might not make much of a difference in terms of the feel of carrying it in hand or using it while out and about, but it makes a big difference in terms of the size of bag required to port it to and fro (even more so now with the Magic Keyboard case). Its will look smaller if you put it side by side. 11 is still big
Jens de Fries Yeah it’s still a good size. But for note-taking, watching videos, split screen and gaming with a controller the 12.9” just suits me better

@@Justgambleit I can’t read on the 12.9 I just got. Feels unnatural. But I love it for everything else
I was confused about 11” or 12.9” iPad to buy... Always have this dilemma. I was watching a video yesterday comparing 11” and 12.9” which explained who needs to buy what. It’s simple:
If you want a laptop that you want to use as tablet sometimes then buy 12.9”. If you want a tablet that you want to use a laptop sometimes then buy 11”. I am buying a 11” iPad Pro because it’s my consumption device which I will use a laptop few times a day :-). As always, amazing video Ali Bhai
Agreed and will be doing the same.
(Do not have the keyboard btw since I don't need it)
Anyway, I love it, but would probably have loved an 12.9" as well.
If I paid full price for a new one today, I would seriously consider the 12.9, even though I'm not sure it would be a better fit.
@@dtdaun I also have a 15" MacBook Pro, I see the 11" iPad Pro more of a consumption device because of my MacBook

Take this ⭐️ for your comment
So, 13 inch better?
I’d like to know how many iPads you have sold for Apple... I think we would be surprised how many students (like me) bought iPads because of your influence.

I really appreciate it.

so i have been using my 12.9 m2 pro for about a month now and here are some of my thoughts:
i absolutely love it. the extra screen is a lot more valuable than you think. try using the 12.9 for an hour then use the smaller air or 11 inch and you will feel the big difference. as a student who has to constantly move between tabs and view several pdfs at once, the split screen on the 12.9 is considerably nicer than on the smaller ipads. i even think that the split screen could be bigger (as my laptop is 15 inch so i’m quite used to a LARGE screen). i also feel like my eyes are less strained due to the big size. i also noticed how i barely have to zoom and pinch when taking notes which i find highly annoying. furthermore, many people complain about portability, size and weight so i expected a drastic difference. but when i came into the apple store to try each product, i was surprised by how LIGHT and perfect the size of the 12.9 is. it’s only “heavy” (like ever so slightly) when you COMPARE IT TO the airs or 11in pros, but by itself, it is relatively light and not that big. i initially even thought the 12.9 was not that big, i even had to double check that it was the 12.9 (this is a true story). i was surprised by how small the 11 in looked in real life and how crammed the screen looks. now if you’re an aspiring artist, designer, or video editor, then the 12.9 should be the only choice you’re thinking of ;) . nowadays, online classes are so common, especially here in korea thus it’s common to always have the lecture on and the powerpoint slides of the lecture on as well, thus the 12.9 split screen works wonders in these situations. a lot of love to the airs and the 11 inches though, i guess it’s just really annoying how many people on online communities and reddit likes to bash the 12.9 for being too big/heavy/not portable when the difference is not that big. i find my 12.9 VERY light, portable and i bring it EVERYWHERE.
So it's portable and doesn't need a specific bag to carry ?
can you tell about one hand use as if we want to note something on the go..... is the 12.9 in pro really light to use in such cases?
@@astudent63neither both can be used one-handedly..
Thank you. I just ordered the 12.9 and I’m excited!
I am with you on that. Once you use a 12.9 even touching an 11 makes you feel like it is tiny.
It’s called getting used to something 😐😐
I am in this very same predicament at the moment: I've been using the 9.7 inch tablet and want to upgrade. I do like to use split screen and multitask but the £300 price differential between the two is hard to justify. However, that extra screen space is so useful! Did you have enough money to justify buying it yourself when you did?
Ali : "probably going to waste time watching a RUclips video"
Me: skips homework to watch tons of video about ipads, a device I'm never going to buy anyway 🤣
same here 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Wow, I bought a 12.9 in a heartbeat. Justified it to my shallow self immediately. You really took your time😀
I just ordered the 12.9 inch iPad right before I watched this video.
There's also a 30% difference in weight between the 11 and 12.9
Also, since the 12.9 is so much bigger, when you one-hand it, it acts like a longer lever so it feels significantly heavier than the 11, way more-so than the raw weight would allude to.
Anyway, sorry for the huge wall of text, just doing my part to justify the 11 :)
Great video and you made some really solid points!
Thank you for your detailed opinion. Helped me a lot.
Your opinion have helped many ,thank you for your time.
This comment is helpful than this biased video. Thanks
The justification we give ourselves while buying a new product 😂 definitely a thumbs up for addressing that 👍
The psychology point really sets you apart within all your content.
Really helpful to hear him
start this train of thought for me.
What apps do you use for those tasks?
This was so helpful, I was in the middle of the 11" and you helped me decide on 12.9 I really appreciate this.
So which one did you take?
I'd never seen a RUclipsr with such a worn out keyboard lol. Just proof that you have really used it day in and day out. Thanks for the videos!
Dang your production quality is through the roof these days!
aww thanks
Student and blogger. Had an 11inch just over a year. Never looked back, superb device!
Do you recommend getting the iPad Pro or should I just get a MacBook for business???? I'm stuck and idk what to choose

You’ve convinced me to buy an iPad Air. That’s all I need as a student.
Thank you for this
Nothing related to iPads, I’ve been thinking of you and hoping that you’re coping with this pandemic. Be well and stay safe.
Oh I like that. I am a teacher too but I am still saving up and making sure it is really what I want.
This guy is so right bro... if you worried about price why are you here??
I’ve been using the 12.9 inch for the last year, and I walk around with it everywhere. It works perfectly!
Jakub Brych i love my Ipad air 3..

also ali: *throws the ipad*
I have the 11inch iPad Pro 2020 and I’m loving it! 🙂💕
Do you think it is small for note taking for school and carrying it around i really need a good advice
@@beyza-mv9kh my opinion it’s big, very very light. great for note taking! i do recommend! :)
@@user-tz6bq8jm5q thank you so muchh
@@beyza-mv9kh no problem!

4:51 Wow the comparison you made between the 12.9-inch and 11-inch about how many paragraphs were able to be shown at once on both devices was stellar 10/10
I’m an art student! The 12.9 has been incredibly helpful for my studio classes
What are you studying?
@@reyjohnine9837 they said art????
Recently ordered the 11 inch 2020 iPad Pro. Typing on it right now, and I can confirm that is it definitely not too small to have one window for slides and one for writing notes. Also, it is much more portable and can be used anywhere. The 12.9 inch is more of a laptop replacement, whereas, the 11 inch is more of a traditional iPad with all the benefits of an iPad Pro. Btw, Im planning on getting the 14 inch MacBook Pro so that is also why I couldn’t justify the £200 jump for another 13 inch screen.
I been using 12.9 for seven years , love it. I have one for work and one for home. If, I download podcast , i down load to mini iPod to walk.

Right there with you! Wish I could switch for the bigger one but got another 2 years to pay for it.
You make some great points here. I bought both the 11 and 12.9 to compare then return one. If you’re gonna lug a tablet around anyway, might as well have the better screen. Now, if you’re a bag of money, get the 12.9 then maybe also get and carry around the Air or standard iPad when out and about.
The 12.9” is not particularly big, as Apple showed at the launch the size of letter paper. I have the 12.9” iPad Pro and love!
"The battery life of the 12.9 inch is 1 or 2 hours better than the 11 inch".
This is like the second time I've heard ali say this and it is not true, if you check the battery drain test videos on youtube, the 11 inch pro has the best battery out of all the ipads.
ll Rodrigiez yeah 11” has a better battery life
I think screen off time is a key factor when measuring this. Battery Drain tests are more realistic results to continuous use. Not use where you may leave the device for a few hours off. 12.9 has better screen off battery. Of course I’d prefer more screen on time, but technically he’s not wrong.
Best battery life in ipad 7th gen has best battery
shivam singh tiwari yeah u r right
Battery drain test all categories including stand by time.....
Yep. The honeymoon period with a new device will have you thinking new == better. That is not at all necessarily the case.
When he said he was going to return them both 😂 we all knew you were kidding yourself🤣
Switching to 12.9 from 11.0 because whatever you said made so much sense. I was debating about it for some time. Your video’s so detailed, it just helped made me make the quick decision. Man, you’re good!!
3:10 my heart stopped for a second
I've been on the fence about getting an ipad to up my level of productivity for business and this video sold me! Great stuff brother!
14:28 that says it all. I have decided I will be buying 11 inch now, as I am a first year med student.
Thanks for 3 likes
Waiting for another negative comment about how rich Ali is 😂😂
classic
Ali Abdaal classically sad. I mean you really deserve what you own : you worked for it. I genuinely don’t understand people that denigrates you for this. Btw will you buy the new keyboard for the iPad ?
Cough cough because he's not a student ANYMORE unlike you guys
Didn’t know you had to be rich to be able to afford an iPad Pro. Its not like it’s a house 😂.
You're so right in taking the psychological aspect under consideration..
It's a shame that the RUclips community focuses only on numbers and gimmicky 'new features'
Omg this guy seriously is going exactly through my evaluation just now
Something I wanted to add after thinking about it.
Canoopsy: Was I wrong?
Ali: I WAS WRONG
Folks I’ve owned both and here’s the answer. You want the 11 inch model. The 12.9 inch is too large to carry around and the magic keyboard weighs more than the iPad itself. So be smart get the smaller sized IPad. Then either get a keyboard and mouse and regular smart folio or get the magic keyboard which prob costs more than that combo at 299. Only reason to get the 12.9 is if its your main computer and you’re not moving locations that often and in that case I suggest getting the M1 MacBook instead. Course no video is going to say that I just had to find out myself for you all.
Thank you, your comment is very helpful for me to make decisions.
I am a Product design student and the 12.9 pro has helped me soo much and the extra screen space is so crucial for sketching and the iPad means I can have a all in one computer other than cad models.
I, when watching a YT video : Finally doing something productive
Abdaal: "Wasting time watching a YT video"
🙂🙂🙂
As a digital artist, it is sooo much easier to draw on the 12.9 inch than the 11 inch
How so?
Girl !!!! Same here!! I took the 12,9. I hesitated with the 11’ one for medschool but fortunately I did the best choice ✌🏻
Covid 19 ruined my chances of saving cash so, I'll go for the 10.2"
Messi Comps hahaha heartfelt feelings
Thats the ipad i have as a 3rd year medical student, and it's absolutely perfect for my use. Enjoy!
same😞🙄
Is there a 10.2 inch ?
Abdul Quddus yes iPad 7th generation (2019 ) $329 usa
If you want a tablet -> 11”
If you want a notebook -> 12,9”
I’m going to show my ignorance here LOL… I have only use a MacBook Pro laptop
What is the difference between a tablet and a notebook?
What I want to do is to do a split screen and put my manuscript on the left side and make a screenplay on the right side. I think I should get an iPad Pro instead of another MacBook Pro. Thank you for your help
So the whole points is a bigger screen. As far as I know, the internals are literally identical. Also the 11 inch has a better screen definition being smaller as both have the same ppi density.
I looked at the 11”, and it was too small. So I got the iPad Pro 12.9”. It’s so big. I’m going to look at the paper-like screen protector.
This is the sort of review we need more of on the internet. Intelligent and rational.
I listened to you when I got my 11” and I’ve been regretting i didnt get 13” since and now you say this 😩😩
He a making videos to get back the money spent on iPad pro through RUclips likes :)
you could always just sell it for as much as you can and use that to buy the 12.9, or get over it like an adult and just wait until you can justify upgrading
