Nuwan Samarasekera the Apple Card is sweet though. Super easy to cancel as well so not sure how they got you with it. It’s not like it’s a bank account. It’s just a credit card.
Here are a few thoughts I've had after watching a bunch of these reviews of the keyboard: - This keyboard makes the iPad a better 'computer'; of that there is no doubt. A track pad, mouse support, and a proper keyboard, however - This also makes the iPad a worse tablet. It is almost unusable as a drawing device, you can't use it in a flat orientation (like on a desk, or in your hand while roaming around as Ali might), and the keyboard offers no protection once removed to use the ipad flat or for drawing (obviously) You should not need to remove a $300 accessory from your tablet to use it as a tablet, nor should you have to turn it upside down either. So then why price an accessory that turns the ipad into a better computer device, and a worse tablet at a similar cost to an ipad 7 on its own? Well I would argue that it is because Apple wants you to consider it as a full laptop replacement. Here's why: - At $300+ for the keyboard, and $1000 base for the ipad pro, you're in macbook air/pro pricing territory ($1350 for the base 12.9 ipad pro + magic keyboard) - If the keyboard was priced at $100-$150 (as some 3rd party alternatives might be), then there is a risk of this setup undercutting sales of mac devices. - So Apple wants you to make this choice without losing anything from its own bottom line - The fact that it has a trackpad almost renders the pencil redundant, so again the choice would be - ipad + folio case + pencil for a tablet experience with some computer ability or ipad + magic keyboard for a nearly complete computer experience with limited tablet ability By introducing this keyboard, Apple has now given people 3 choices, not just 2: 1. If you want a complete computing experience with no tablet functionality - then get a macbook, 2. If you want a complete tablet experience (drawing, flat-lay use) with some computing ability, then get an ipad pro with a pencil and/or folio, 3. If you want a very good computing experience, with the option of a still-decent tablet experience (you can still use the tablet outside of the keyboard, but not protected and not at case-defined angles), then get yourself an ipad pro + magic keyboard. Thank you for making it all the way to the end of my comment, and thank you to SkillShare for sponsoring this comment
You said everything. But I chose option 4 : to have a very good tablet with the smart folio keyboard, and connect my ipad to a computer, magic trackpad and Logi keyboard for long typing experiences. Since I mostly work at home, and that I don’t mind writing with the folio when I’m outside or on a congress, this setup fits 100% all situations for me.
That last bit in the comment. LOl Yeah, but I liked your analysis. I did not have the words for it, but yeah-MAKES A BETTER LAPTOP AND A WORSE TABLET. RIGHTTTTT. As far as people like me (students) are concerned, this keyboard is useless- too heavy (so screw portability) and most of all CANT USE PENCIL (The first reason I bought ipad to begin with)
Nazeer Kamdar Have two first gen IPad Pros, a MacBook 12, and have had a series of Mac laptops. The IPad just falls short. I can do so much more, and more easily, on any Mac. The IPad has a much more pleasurable screen, but not being able to use it in vertical mode, without detaching the keyboard, makes it less valuable.
I’m heading to college in the fall, and Ali is the sole reason why I’m considering getting an iPad for taking notes and such. One of my biggest inspirations!!
Lour Drick Valsote good choice, I wouldn’t take the magic keyboard tho, because we need to take it off everytime we want to write. I think it’s way better to have a small Bluetooth keyboard (like the logitech k380) or having the basic folio case, more lightweight and practical
I couldn‘t agree with you more. Have been using it multiple hours everyday since tuesday and as someone who‘s never really used a MacBook, this is the best typing experience I‘ve ever had. The iPad Pro already was my main notebook before and now it‘s going to get even better of a replacement.
I know. I watched it again to see if I had misheard. I learned to touch type in school (which was, ahem, more than 10 years ago) and I can get about 51 wpm with about 96% accuracy. Professional typists would be expected to get 80-100 wpm. So if this doctor/RUclips personality doesn't work out for Ali, there is a career in typing waiting!
It's not a case of being rich, but brainwashed into buying apple products. Ali is one of the sole reasons I own apple stock, 175 shares mind you and I wish I owned more. Apple is like a cash printing press. God Bless you Ali for funding my early retirement.
I wish there’d been a way for this to still fold back completely into “tablet-mode”, similarly to the folio keyboard. Alongside writing, I use the iPad for illustration work daily. Having this case would prompt me to constantly remove it in order to lay it flat while working. But man, it looks beautiful, alongside this review. Your editing and presentation never ceases to be slick and clean.

I said I wasn’t going to get one because I already have the Smart Keyboard Folio on my 12.9 iPad Pro...then my wife surprised me for my birthday and it came in yesterday. It is amazing. I understand your excitement. It’s a great new way to interact with the iPad and the way Apple integrated the mouse/trackpad and cursor support is, well, Apple. Polished and you can tell they genuinely thought about how to add those features to a touch first device. As a medical student, my iPad Pro 12.9 is a game changer. I used my iPad Pro 10.5 through undergrad and it was invaluable.

Just ordered a 12.9" + paperlike via your link! About the latter, if you haven't done a video yet on applying Paperlike - would be curious to see your process. I had some bubbles when putting it on my 9" iPad - not a huge deal - but wondering if that's inevitable or not.
I just received my Magic Keyobard today and I feel that my excitement mirrors your own. Mine is for the 11” iPad Pro. I am typing with it now and, though the keyboard is more crammed than that on my MacBook, I can also hit my typical typing speeds! It is definitely a huge win turning my iPad into everything I need a device for: streaming, play, and productivity...finally! :) Enjoy!
I see everybody reviewing comparing it to a laptop experience - but can you use it as an iPad still? Meaning can you fold the keyboard backwards and carry it with you as a tablet, or will you need to take off the cover for that?
Im a med student, and let me tell you that your videos have been keeping me motivated in this lockdown. Keep it up with the good work Ali! greetings from Bogotá, Colombia.

Just picked up my magic keyboard a few days ago and absolutely love it - have returned my Smart Keyboard as was still within 14 days as there is just no comparison.
I’m so pleased you like it - I have not looked forward to something so much from Apple since the 2018 iPad Pro and iPad OS. I don’t care of that sounds geeky or shallow... much. Any way mine is on the way and I can’t wait. I think it will supercharge how I use the the iPad. Thanks for the video
While I was initially very excited about the Magic Keyboard, I am most likely going to return it. Like Ali, until I got this keyboard, the Smart Keyboard Folio was one of the best typing experiences I’ve ever had. I never removed it. Not only does it keep the IPad protected, but thin and light. The Magic Keyboard is amazing- the typing experience is incredible, and the trackpad is grea,t. But I hate how heavy and thick it makes the iPad, and you have to take it off to use the iPad as a tablet. The Magic Keyboard makes the iPad a better laptop, but not a better tablet. I’ll be sticking with my Smart Keyboard Folio- the lightness, portability, and waterproof qualities are more important to me than what the Magic Keyboard offers. It’s great, but it only does one thing, although it does that very well.
Hi Ali, I’m saving up to buy it, I live in London but I feel like I’m spending too much because in America it is £100 cheaper for the keyboard when you transfer the value from pounds to dollars. I’m looking to make a purchase of the 256gb 12.9 with the Apple Pencil and new keyboard but I feel like I’m losing out compared to what the Americans are spending
People complain about apple products being too expensive abroad, but what’s really expensive is the overseas tax - unnecessarily. At least in London we’re better off compared to even Canada or Australia. Don’t compare prices to America, it won’t change the price and you’re not going to be able to get it for cheaper without a lot of extra hassle. If you wish to get it, then get it. If you struggle to afford a £200 difference in the end then you should really think of an alternative choice.
You can control your keyboard brightness from the control center. Just long click on the brightness settings and you’ll get the option to change the keyboard brightness.
It's kind of a dealbreaker for me that the pencil experience is crap with this. Thats my primary usecase and if it would have supported that better i'd be willing to spend the money, but like this it's too expensive for my usecase.
I got an iPad pro, bought a paperlike screen protector, and use notability ALL for med school because of your videos... Now I want the magic keyboard 😭🥺
Love how this guy gets excited like a normal person, and doesnt try to be super critical and "objective" like most reviewers, nitpicking about things that 99% of people won't care about and pretending nothing is special. Where has the joy gone?
the case not ideal for somebody who uses there iPad primarily with the apple pencil for notes or creative purposes as it offers no protection! but otherwise, it's a good case for most users!
regarding your comment - editing photos is a dream on the ipad. i'm a travel photographer moving to an ipad workflow and found your channel while making my decisions. editing video full time wouldn't be as fun from what i can tell so far but i prefer editing photos on the ipad in lightroom!
Thank you for making a sensible critique video!! And not being harsh on how does the cursor disappear, does the iPad slip when u lay it on the keyboard... and how hard can u tap it before it falls... A lot of things we never worry about when we actually use these devices. This was very helpful! For those saying there’s no control buttons, there’s a control panel on the iPad... use ur new keyboard track pad cursor to get to it. Lol
You should make a video comparing the magic keyboard to the folio keyboard for a student/somebody that is frequently using the apple pencil to take notes. Since the magic keyboard provides a better typing experience but doesn't have a convenient way of taking hand written notes, (where the folio has the ability of being folded flat.) Just an idea and would be very interested in hearing what you had to say on the topic. Very informative video as always.
Truthfully - this lockdown is impacting my memory! I was convinced you had already done a quick first look at this new keyboard when you did the review of the 2020 ipad's and concluded it wasn't worth the money! I must truthfully have dreamt it up and yet in my head it is so vivid?!

This is the best iPad Pro magic keyboard review I’ve seen. Keep up the good work!
Don’t throw the old keyboard away. Throw that to me!
Whoa.... this keyboard looks really cool! I hope you get the most use out of this thing!
Imagine being in India 🤦♂️😔😭
People complain about apple products being too expensive abroad, but what’s really expensive is the overseas tax - unnecessarily. At least in London we’re better off compared to even Canada or Australia. Don’t compare prices to America, it won’t change the price and you’re not going to be able to get it for cheaper without a lot of extra hassle. If you wish to get it, then get it. If you struggle to afford a £200 difference in the end then you should really think of an alternative choice.
Favorite part of the video. Epic pencil twirls at 5:00.
Him with the knife at the beginning of the video is frankly a little scary
Wow, just became your follower number 627.000 😅. Cheers from Colombia 🇨🇴! And thank you for your videos.
was waiting for your first impressions!! Forget MKBHD more like Ali Abdal HD lol
the expression you made when you threw your old case was to die for
I have yet to have a RUclipsr use the keyboard with Excel. I NEED TO KNOW HOW WELL IT WORKS WITH EXCEL BEFORE BUYING!!!
Such a good video as usual but ngl the hand job line was the best bit for me 😭😭😭😂😂😂
Can you make a RUclips video about live streaming on RUclips and which tools you recommend
Check out my mate Gaming Careers - he’s got all the videos you need about streaming :P
@@aliabdaal thanks
You can control your keyboard brightness from the control center. Just long click on the brightness settings and you’ll get the option to change the keyboard brightness.
It's kind of a dealbreaker for me that the pencil experience is crap with this. Thats my primary usecase and if it would have supported that better i'd be willing to spend the money, but like this it's too expensive for my usecase.
I got an iPad pro, bought a paperlike screen protector, and use notability ALL for med school because of your videos...
Now I want the magic keyboard 😭🥺
I’ve seen Ali excited but I’ve never seen him THAT excited 😂
Love how this guy gets excited like a normal person, and doesnt try to be super critical and "objective" like most reviewers, nitpicking about things that 99% of people won't care about and pretending nothing is special. Where has the joy gone?
the case not ideal for somebody who uses there iPad primarily with the apple pencil for notes or creative purposes as it offers no protection! but otherwise, it's a good case for most users!
156 words per minute.... Ali you are really a different beast
I’m so tired of hearing EVERY tech reviewer talk about paperlike. Seriously I would never buy that product for that one reason.
Your loss
@@aliabdaal ohhhh savage!
regarding your comment - editing photos is a dream on the ipad. i'm a travel photographer moving to an ipad workflow and found your channel while making my decisions. editing video full time wouldn't be as fun from what i can tell so far but i prefer editing photos on the ipad in lightroom!
0:05 I really like the edit! Reminds me of Casey Neistat. Keep it up!
I honestly love how you've incorporated tech videos into your productivity portfolio!
0:27 “I am a doctor working in the *UK*” lol
Thank you for making a sensible critique video!! And not being harsh on how does the cursor disappear, does the iPad slip when u lay it on the keyboard... and how hard can u tap it before it falls... A lot of things we never worry about when we actually use these devices. This was very helpful!
For those saying there’s no control buttons, there’s a control panel on the iPad... use ur new keyboard track pad cursor to get to it. Lol
HE THREW HIS OLD CASE LMAOOO I DIDNT EXPECT THAT
Probably on to a sofa or something soft.
Your use of the word, “ghetto,” is interesting.
Been thinking if I should get one for weeks and I literally just placed an order because of you. 😂 You’re so excited about it and I love it!
**casually throws away current ipad cover**
Truthfully - this lockdown is impacting my memory! I was convinced you had already done a quick first look at this new keyboard when you did the review of the 2020 ipad's and concluded it wasn't worth the money! I must truthfully have dreamt it up and yet in my head it is so vivid?!
