If the sizes determine my decision to take it out in public or not, then the more portable it is, the better. I heard some people do not take their 12.9 out from the bag since it is rather big for light use. 3. I use it to read article while laying down. The size is perfect for me to read and highlight important parts. 4. For drawing, it is even larger than my usual book I used to carry. I own a cintiq pro for drawing and it works great on the table. So I needed something more mobile. For above reasons, I am really happy with my decision.

That's a really well made video, i won't even be buying in the near future till any of them get some kind of a discount but watched this video so that i am always ready for a miracle to happen. The info is laid out beautifully with focusing on topics that actually do matter and could be noticed by an average user/student. Thx for this!
Tough to answer, as I don’t have experience with studying medicine. When I used the 11 inch as a business student, I never felt like it was too cramped but if you have to draw a lot of diagrams/images, maybe consider the larger size.
Weird question here. This or a 2in1 windows laptop like new Samsung galaxy book 360s? For medical student.note taking and reading and playing games once in a while (cloud gaming).
Ohh, that's tough for me to answer. I haven't used Windows in a while, so I don't know how well Windows 11 works, but in general, I would consider two things there: - Do you have another computer? If not, having only the iPad might limit you in some tasks, and therefore, I would advise you to go with the 2in1 - Which OS do you prefer? If you are used to Windows and like it, I would stick with that, but if you like Apple Software, go for the iPad. In general, I prefer Apple devices because I prefer macOS, iPadOS and iOS more than their Windows/Android counterparts. Also, I don't think other companies put in the same effort to perfect the hardware design of their products as Apple does. But in the end, it comes down to which one is better suited for your needs. Hope this helps, let me know if you have further questions!
This video is super helpful, thank you so much! I got an iPad 11" and immediately started second-guessing so after this video I have made the definitive decision to send it back (it's still unopened and it only arrived yesterday) and place an order for the 12.9", as I am using it to replace a 2014 MacBook Pro that barely works and I'm starting a Master's Degree. Thank you!
You are absolutely right about price and was going for the 12.9 but after the video am going for the 11. I have a main gaming PC and need something portable. You talked about weight which made me think about taking pictures, video, and short animations using AI plus AR. I liked adding the external devices like monitors, keyboard, and mouse when needed. You nailed it and yes, this was a tough decision due to the differences screens on both.
Awesome review well done....I am 58 and not very techy...i currently have an ipad air 4th generation 256 GB....and am wanting something a bigger screen...I want this for watching movies / utube / social media / games / streaming .....which would you recommend for me possibly....what would more than suit my needs ? thx in advance....anyone is free to put your advice in also....cheers from Canada
In general, I think the 12.9 inch would fit your needs better, you could also go for an M1 model, which would still be plenty fast for a long while. There were also some rumors for a bigger iPad Air coming in the first half of next year, so maybe that would be worth waiting for?
While I am sure there are numerous people who do, I have personally never seen anyone use a laptop styled device on their actual lap. Anyway, thank you for the video, it was very helpful.
Im in a video editing class in high school so screen size, color accuracy, and really black blacks are essential so Imma probably gonna get the 12.9 inch
Good comparison, but I would say that the screen is the biggest differentiator - the mini LED on the 12.9 is worth the extra size, weight and cost to me!
Is the ipad pro 11 and 12.9 inch the same program wise like it has the same amount of power and speed and Such? Idk how to explain hopefully you understand Because I am looking to get one but idk which is best from the two
Hey Seth, yes, all of the apps are available on both devices and they both have the same level of power, so you can choose the one that best fits your needs in terms of portability!🙂
11-inch is a perfect tablet size and a decent keyboard experience. I can see 12.9 inch being better for students taking notes. Since a have powerful PC, I’d get the 11-inch. 12.9 is too big as a tablet.
I am thinking of upgrading to the 12.9 inch I have a 2020 11 inch however I teach post secondary philosophy and I like to comment on papers with the iPad but the 11 inch is a touch small for this. The draw back is I keep my lecture notes on my iPad as it is handy my concern is the 12.9 inch would be too big for this. I have a laptop I am not looking to replace I just think that it might come in handy for for marking papers. In theory I could get a 12.9 and not sell my other one but two iPad pros seems wasteful . What are your thoughts?
I am with you, having two iPads might seem like a good idea, but it feels stupid… Do you have an opportunity to get the 12.9 at Apple with a return window? If so, I would do that, see how much you like it, depending on your experience either return the 12.9 or sell the 11 😃
Hey Greg how’d you go, did you end up upgrading? I’m about to start uni (deciding between philosophy and physics) curious to hear how you found the different size for uni stuff :) P.S. great video Chris, super thorough and detailed. Love it. I’m leaning toward 12.9 as I love to write too. I’ve been watching heaps of vids about Notion and I want to get the iPad mostly to handle my notes (got over 1k different notes and wanting to better structure them from what they are now - just folders - to a whole dedicated platform, I’ll probably pay the extra to get the integrated AI add on even tho it’s a super expensive add on at like 8$ a month of whatever I love the integration. Looks SUPER impressive from what I’ve seen researching but I’m yet to use it yet. Anyway back to the point… How do you find the 12.9 in bed for RUclips? Do you find the extra weight bothers you much when using it in portrait on the couch or in bed with the Apple Pencil? Thanks :)
@bootyclapofficial6986 I like the 12.9 better. It is a little heavier, but I adjusted quickly. Trade off, but I think it is worth it. In terms of studying philosophy, any philosopher after 1300 AD is pretty much bunk, so if you are ancient or medieval philosophy, but if you are focusing on modern philosophy, which most programs do, I would recommend physics. Not to say that there is no good philosophy going on these days, but the interesting stuff is all commentary/expansion on the ancients and the medievals. Enlightenment philosophers are vastly overrated.
I went for the iPad Pro 11 inch M1 model because I found it for a good price and the size is perfect. Otherwise I would’ve gotten the Air. As an OLED TV owner, I can really tell that the screen doesn’t have great contrast but I can’t complain overall.
If you use a controller, the 12.9 is awesome due to the bigger screen. If not, I recommend the 11, as the 12.9 feels to large to hold for gaming in my opinion.
thank for the review.. i'm going for 11" ipad pro because of practicality and portability very handy especially when you travelled a lot.. i used my 12.9" ipad of my sister is to big and heavy esp when you put the magic keyboard it's not comfortable to bring anywhere and very eye catching to people i feel like someone will robbing on me and yes 12.9" has XDR display but still not an Oled, if i'm looking for xdr display i buy samsung tab s8 with oled display and more affordable... the 12.9" ipad pro is not ideal for normal ipad.
I bought a 12.9 version to tried an XDR display but I feel like they never dim the backlight for dark scene when play SDR video only work on HDR content and theres another problem: it's too big and too heavy for me for something that I want to conveniently take it out while at a train station but 12.9 make it more difficult to do and barely easier than my 13.3 inch laptop. I think I'll buy an 11 inch iPad Pro M3 when it comes out I don't care for XDR display and I heard I will get a longer battery than 12.9 inches too
This is probably my 100th video today just on the comparison between the 11” and 12’9” and I’ve yet to find a vid that will explain which is better for digital artists! You’d think that there are enough of us out there for someone to make a vid but 😢 … let’s see what this “new” info this video gives me…
I think there are some channels focusing on that, I don’t have any expertise in the area unfortunately. Have you checked out Brad Colbow? He does great videos on the iPad for digital artists.
Well said Chris! You did a great job! I agree the 12.9 is prob my favourite size too, but as you point out, there are reasons for picking the 11 inch. Subscribed!
I brought the 12.9 Inch for gaming and I love it to bits the screen size is perfect. I love playing all the hardcore games at 120fps with the 12.9 12.9 Inch is the best! In my opinion But if you have small fingers 11 inch is good to or the iPad mini 6 is great to 👍which is cheaper
Yeah, all of them are great for gaming but the 12.9 inch looks really good (even though the mini has the best handling for gaming). What are some of your favorite games for iPad?
@@chris-mueller mine personally is Fortnite Mobile iOS it currently banned from the App Store but it’s still fun to play. I love playing genshin impact aswell one of the best games ever 👍
@@henryfnm Genshin Impact is so nice, my favorite mobile game in recent history. Yeah I never tried Fortnite because of that, is there a way to make it work?
I’m considering M2 12,9” as my first iPad as my productivity/second small computer. Do you think getting 8gb 512 as diving into the culture until M3 is enough? I’m a heavy user (creative tasks). I could go with M1 12,9 1TB or M2 11 1TB but I guess as an intro maybe I could get away with 8GB?
Hey Marta, what specific tasks will you be doing? I never noticed any hiccups with 8GB of memory, but I don’t do a lot of intensive tasks on my iPad. There are some specific apps that can really take advantage of the 16GB, but it is a lot more expensive and most of the time, you won’t notice a difference. Do you need 512GB or would 256GB storage work too?
@@chris-mueller 256 is not profitable financially, 1TB is 460 USD more expensive than 512 GB (1590 USD for 512). These are the cheapest I can get right now. I know for sure 12,9 is more comfortable for working, but for reading it will be tough I guess. On the other hand come on, I carried 2,5kgs notebooks when studying. I’m an Art Director and UI designer, I work with motion, video, print, digital graphic, some 3D. A lot of preproduction work. Multiple tabs, but can adjust my workflow. I’d like to drag pictures with my finger prom Behance to my app directly, use my iPad as a second monito when working with resolve on my PC… I’m not an illustrator not advanced in 3D, but would try to animate in procreate and modeling on iPad, it seems easier. Usually I do vectors. Going to prepare key visuals though, and maybe some elements as a ground for my motion work on a PC. During backstages I could use iPad for quick recording and postproduction on the go, so then 1TB makes more sense (or for larger formats in Procreate), but I could buy 14 MBP 16gb then as well. I’d not need another MacBook (yet!), the point is iPad 1TB is for that productive part, it’s is hard to estimate. Quick notes to search across my meetings and reading books/noting/learning English on iPad is on my mind as well, here no doubts it would work great! I really don’t know what is fluent and natural on an iPad. I’d editing movies would work, ok, then I’d try doing it. If not, then not :) Maybe these all tabs wouldn’t be as great on iPad either?
Hey, that’s a usecase I haven’t covered well in the video, since I can’t draw at all 😬 If you do a lot of drawing, the 12.9 inch might be worth it. I can recommend the channel „Brad Colbow“, he is a digital artist that does videos about the iPad and you’ll probably find some useful info there.
I love the display on 12.9 inch but then i already have m1 MacBook Air so considering of selling it, its unfortunate that the apple laptops are not touch screen. Switching from ipad to MacBook i always have the urge to touch the screen lol
if i have to write something with a keyboard on an ipad i rather use my own personal mechanical keyboard connected to the ipad than buying something expensive that is no way near as good as my own keyboard
Thank you for. your thoughtful video. The questions by the end of it really made a difference in the process of making a decision on either of the iPads, and you are right.
Good video, external display support is limited to M1 IPADS and it seem artificially imposed to sell more expensive models. If external monitor support is enabled for all USB C models, that would be good. for mostly tablet use only, 11-inch is better device
Thank you! 😃 Yes, I don’t know whether it’s artificially limited or not, but it’s especially sad for the newly announced iPad 10. Gen that doesn’t even get Stage Manager.

@@AllThingsShun I ordered mine so excited
That's a really well made video, i won't even be buying in the near future till any of them get some kind of a discount but watched this video so that i am always ready for a miracle to happen. The info is laid out beautifully with focusing on topics that actually do matter and could be noticed by an average user/student. Thx for this!
Thank you so much for your kind feedback!! 🫶🏻
Should I go for 12.9 inch for making notes of medical college ?
Tough to answer, as I don’t have experience with studying medicine. When I used the 11 inch as a business student, I never felt like it was too cramped but if you have to draw a lot of diagrams/images, maybe consider the larger size.
Plenty of welfare people packing pro max iPhones….no need to justify purchase get the one you want!
Weird question here.
This or a 2in1 windows laptop like new Samsung galaxy book 360s?
For medical student.note taking and reading and playing games once in a while (cloud gaming).
Ohh, that's tough for me to answer. I haven't used Windows in a while, so I don't know how well Windows 11 works, but in general, I would consider two things there:
- Do you have another computer? If not, having only the iPad might limit you in some tasks, and therefore, I would advise you to go with the 2in1
- Which OS do you prefer? If you are used to Windows and like it, I would stick with that, but if you like Apple Software, go for the iPad.
In general, I prefer Apple devices because I prefer macOS, iPadOS and iOS more than their Windows/Android counterparts. Also, I don't think other companies put in the same effort to perfect the hardware design of their products as Apple does. But in the end, it comes down to which one is better suited for your needs.
Hope this helps, let me know if you have further questions!
I have a MacBook Pro for work. Ordered the 12.9 to use as a secondary device for work. Use my older 9.7 pro for casual browsing
Congrats! What size is your Mac?
This video is super helpful, thank you so much! I got an iPad 11" and immediately started second-guessing so after this video I have made the definitive decision to send it back (it's still unopened and it only arrived yesterday) and place an order for the 12.9", as I am using it to replace a 2014 MacBook Pro that barely works and I'm starting a Master's Degree. Thank you!
Hey Fernanda, I am very happy to hear that!! 🙂 Congrats on the new iPad and good luck with your Master’s! 🍀🤞🏻
I was just using my 11" with Magic Keyboard on my lap, and I didn't have to put my legs together.
I bought the 12.9 6th gen pro aftwr I watched this. great explanation
From Philippines
Great to hear! Congrats!!
Thanks for your kind words! 😃 Sounds Like the 11 inch is perfect for you, it feels so light and portable, you can take it anywhere 🙂
I have the 14” MPB so to me the 11” makes more sense. 12.9” too close to 14”.
Hey Dave, definitely makes much more sense, it’s nice to have something smaller instead of basically the same size!
Thanks! How often do you hold it in your hand while using it?
In general, I think the 12.9 inch would fit your needs better, you could also go for an M1 model, which would still be plenty fast for a long while. There were also some rumors for a bigger iPad Air coming in the first half of next year, so maybe that would be worth waiting for?
Excellent video. You are a great communicator. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
While I am sure there are numerous people who do, I have personally never seen anyone use a laptop styled device on their actual lap. Anyway, thank you for the video, it was very helpful.
Thank you! I like to use it like that on the couch sometimes 😃
Im in a video editing class in high school so screen size, color accuracy, and really black blacks are essential so Imma probably gonna get the 12.9 inch
Sounds like the right choice for you, enjoy it!
@@chris-muellerit took 8 months, but I finally got it. Sorry IRS I’m broke now
Good comparison, but I would say that the screen is the biggest differentiator - the mini LED on the 12.9 is worth the extra size, weight and cost to me!
Thank you! 🙂 Yeah if that’s important, the 12.9 is better hands down.
Is the ipad pro 11 and 12.9 inch the same program wise like it has the same amount of power and speed and Such? Idk how to explain hopefully you understand
Because I am looking to get one but idk which is best from the two
Hey Seth, yes, all of the apps are available on both devices and they both have the same level of power, so you can choose the one that best fits your needs in terms of portability!🙂
Once you go to big screen.. its hard to go back to a smaller screen
Absolutely!
Great Job, mate good Review, I appreciate your approach on the review, and how the screen miniled are not a deal breaker. Subscribed!!
Thanks a lot Rafael!! 🙂
Can i connect ipad pro 11 inch to external hard drive for transfer data . Please answer
Yes! All USB-C drives should work :)
11-inch is a perfect tablet size and a decent keyboard experience. I can see 12.9 inch being better for students taking notes. Since a have powerful PC, I’d get the 11-inch. 12.9 is too big as a tablet.
Makes sense, glad you made the right choice for your use case! 😃
Please tell me which colour to buy space grey or silver 11 inch ipad pro and should i buy one now or wait for new one my budget is same as this one rn
It’s personal preference of course, but I prefer silver generally, looks more classy and is better at hiding small scratches.
@@chris-muellerthx much dude
I’m about to start uni (deciding between philosophy and physics) curious to hear how you found the different size for uni stuff :)
P.S. great video Chris, super thorough and detailed.
That’s awesome thanks for that info Greg :)
I just bought the iPad Pro 11 inch and I can’t wait for it! 😁
Congrats, I’m sure you will enjoy it!!!
Here you have both, but you said it's a difficult choice... You don't make choise at all. Anyway, great video, nice work.
Thank you! I ordered both and returned one, I talk about my choice in the final part of the video. 😃
Can you use the iPad as secondary screen to a iMac ?
Yes! You can use Sidecar for that, it works pretty well without any cables.
good questions, thanks helped me to decied in size :)
Glad I could help! Which size did you end up going for?
@@chris-mueller gone for the 12.9 inch size after i spend most of my freetime drawing on it :)
The screen of 12.9 it's better overall
Unfortunately apple doesn't put it same scree on the ipad pro 11 and this is a big issues for me.
Yes it definitely is, and I was hoping for them to use the same screen for the M2 model, but looks like we‘ll have to wait another year…
I went for the iPad Pro 11 inch M1 model because I found it for a good price and the size is perfect. Otherwise I would’ve gotten the Air. As an OLED TV owner, I can really tell that the screen doesn’t have great contrast but I can’t complain overall.
Yeah it is an awesome device, the screen is a bit worse but still, the 120hz ProMotion looks very smooth. Enjoy it!
Great video! really helped break it down
Thanks, glad to help!
12.9 all the way!! But that’s just my personal preference. I do love it though!!
How's the battery
Who is best to playing Pubg game 12.9 or m11
If you use a controller, the 12.9 is awesome due to the bigger screen. If not, I recommend the 11, as the 12.9 feels to large to hold for gaming in my opinion.
Thank you
thank for the review.. i'm going for 11" ipad pro because of practicality and portability very handy especially when you travelled a lot.. i used my 12.9" ipad of my sister is to big and heavy esp when you put the magic keyboard it's not comfortable to bring anywhere and very eye catching to people i feel like someone will robbing on me and yes 12.9" has XDR display but still not an Oled, if i'm looking for xdr display i buy samsung tab s8 with oled display and more affordable... the 12.9" ipad pro is not ideal for normal ipad.
Glad you enjoyed it, congrats on your new iPad! 😃
For electronics engineering student which one is better is it 11 inch or 12.9 inch
Do you have to draw diagrams or sketches often?
Not so often but sometimes only more too electrical diagrams
I think both would be fine, I would look at all other factors like portability, etc. and decide based on that.
Thank you very much its was really helpful
Any time, glad I could help!
I think I'll buy an 11 inch iPad Pro M3 when it comes out I don't care for XDR display and I heard I will get a longer battery than 12.9 inches too
Let’s hope it will be good, I’m excited to see it too 🤞🏻
The only thing I was able to conclude from this video was to not by the keyboard😂😂
That’s a start! 😂
You veiw on the iPad Pro I thought what you was saying was the best review thank you
Glad it helped!
He does great videos on the iPad for digital artists.
great video, this video was still very relevant for the new gen 6 ipads that got announced today :)
I agree, and I decided to order the 11 inches iPad
Thanks, great to hear that! I also preordered one and am super excited, which size did you go for?
@j.p.7923 Thanks, congrats on the new iPad!
Love your videos. Send me one please. Here in South africa its ridiculously pricy
Ahh too bad ☹️ Glad to hear you enjoyed the video!
Well said Chris! You did a great job! I agree the 12.9 is prob my favourite size too, but as you point out, there are reasons for picking the 11 inch.
Subscribed!
Thank you Johnny, I appreciate it! Do you currently use one of them?
I brought the 12.9 Inch for gaming and I love it to bits the screen size is perfect. I love playing all the hardcore games at 120fps with the 12.9
12.9 Inch is the best!
@@chris-mueller yes there is a way if you had it installed before the ban
@LiquidFn2020 Ahh okay too bad, thanks for the reply!
What an insightful video!!
Glad it was helpful!
Chris, get rid of the echo!
Haha 😄 My microphone didn’t record for that one, so I used the camera audio, that’s why it sounds so bad ☹️
Great video! Thanks for sharing
Thanks!
I only plan to use it for procreate among the normal entertainment so I’m assuming the 11 inch probably be enough for me
Hey, that’s a usecase I haven’t covered well in the video, since I can’t draw at all 😬 If you do a lot of drawing, the 12.9 inch might be worth it. I can recommend the channel „Brad Colbow“, he is a digital artist that does videos about the iPad and you’ll probably find some useful info there.
Awesome video man!
Thanks! 🫶🏻🫶🏻
Im still confused
Haha, I get that! Any specific questions?
Thanks for this
Glad I could help!! What size did you decide on?
I love the display on 12.9 inch but then i already have m1 MacBook Air so considering of selling it, its unfortunate that the apple laptops are not touch screen. Switching from ipad to MacBook i always have the urge to touch the screen lol
Haha I totally get that! Yeah the larger iPad is very close in size to the smaller laptops 😬
Bro didnt blink the entire video 💀😂
Too stressed out trying to talk to a camera 😂
Very realistic and practical comparison! Good job.
Glad you liked it!
if i have to write something with a keyboard on an ipad i rather use my own personal mechanical keyboard connected to the ipad than buying something expensive that is no way near as good as my own keyboard
I get that, but that only works if you're at home or at your office, and isn't that practical on the go.
Thank you for. your thoughtful video. The questions by the end of it really made a difference in the process of making a decision on either of the iPads, and you are right.
Thank you for your comment, I am glad I could help you! 😃
12.9 inch last option
I choose....both.
Can’t go wrong with that 😛 Do you use both equal or one more often than the other?
Good video, external display support is limited to M1 IPADS and it seem artificially imposed to sell more expensive models. If external monitor support is enabled for all USB C models, that would be good. for mostly tablet use only, 11-inch is better device
Thank you! 😃 Yes, I don’t know whether it’s artificially limited or not, but it’s especially sad for the newly announced iPad 10. Gen that doesn’t even get Stage Manager.
Mini led 120hz 12.9 😎
Such a wonderful display!!
11 inch is handy
