You have taught me several things that have stressed about in the past. You have a clear voice and are a good teacher. I am so glad l found you on utube. Thank you.
This is BEST discussion on borders I've ever heard! Cindy, you're a woman I will need to meet one day. Newly retired FNP, quilter/bagger......sister nurse. Thank you so much for all you do, your light is bright in the world.
This is the and I say THE most informative video I have ever watched bar none... I have always wondered how to get quilts square... I am84 yrs. old .. I hope younger gals know this before they are 84. thank you sooo much Cindi!!
I have sewed all my life .. I am concentrating on quilting now in my golden years💕 I have learned sooo much from you and your site. I am working on a special quilt for my grandson .. I have worked myself into such a puzzle, but I am determined to make his teeshirt quilt unlike none he’s ever seen. I have cut specifically … and bound each block (all different sizes🤦🏽♀️) and now I have a puzzle to figure out. You have helped me so much. Thank you
I'm very grateful I found this video this evening! It definitely saved me from a lot of frustration. Thank you for sharing your knowledge in such a way that even I can understand. At 65, I have taken up quilting and am thoroughly enjoying myself. I've watch many of videos on quilting techniques, and tips and tricks, but this is by far the best one! Thanks again! Many blessings to you!
My 88 year old neighbor, June taught me to quilt and I’m hooked. This is how she taught me to add a border; measure straight down the middle of the quilt and cut your border to the number you get. Sew on the borders and press. Them measure across the quilt at its center and cut your borders to that number
Your explanation on how to do borders with uneven quilts is amazing. I’ve worked in quilt shops, but I had to handle the money, so I never did really get a good instructions for doing a number of things with quilts. So I’m making one for my son-in-law and I’m so glad that I looked you up on my phone. I am now subscribed and want to thank you so much. I hope my borders come out great.
It was a great video. I learned so much and you made it easy to follow. You've made so many beautiful quilts and I will be following you from now on. Your the best!! Thank you. Paula from Miami, Az
Thank you for this informative video. Your presentation was totally professional and so helpful. I am a beginner quilter and am thankful that you share your knowledge and expertise in your videos. I am not one to comment much, but just felt I had to here. There are probably hundreds of people watching and appreciating your videos for each positive comment you receive. It astounded me to see that one negative comment on this video, and all I can think of is that she made her comment on your video by mistake. If you were in my state I would be a frequent visitor supporting your store!
Oh bless your heart! That’s really kind of you to say. I still say I am not sure what she meant. It would break my heart to be mean to someone. Let’s just hope she heard something wrong. Thanks again!
Oh my goodness what a coincidence. We are on our way from Illinois to a short stay in Bayfield Wi. I did not realize we would cross into MI for a few miles. Persuaded my husband to make a stop so I could see your store in person. But you are closed today for a Facebook live event. So sorry I couldn’t see your store after watching your RUclips videos. :(
Love your quilts. I am New to quilting. I will never be as good as you. I am making a Quilt for my mother that right now before borders it’s 30x 60. I want it to be 50x70 for a lap quilt. I designed it myself because it’s Curling Rocks. So all blocks staggered. My issue is how to get creative with the border. It’s an odd size I know. I’m not experienced enough to figure this out I don’t think. You’re instructions are great. Thank you. If you have any hints for me to make a sensible border I would appreciate. Thanks again 🙏❤️
You just saved me from a real headache! I was planning a border for a 19" x 23" project with a go around and cut for my first project. Small it may have been fine but I would have been upset it was the quality I wanted. Thank you now when I get to my quilt I will be more confident. Also knowing you fixed the 9" border mistake shows all does not have to be lost. 👍and after this video is over I will be checking out your channel. Cindi I appreciate all the time and knowledge you put into this video.
Thank you! As others have said, this is the best lesson on borders I’ve seen. Just what I needed - and your explanations are precise and understandable!
My first quilt I did the WRONG way. Gave it to my friend to hang up and it had huge waves, bothered me every time I saw it! After 4months of quilting and learning how to properly measure, cut and attatch borders, i took the quilt back. Ripped out the binding and borders. They were off by 1" both on short and long sides. After properly fixing it, it lays perfectly flat and I am so happy and proud of myself...and that's only 1 border! Cant imagine how bad it could get with more borders. Thank you for validating.
Wow, so happy to find this video!! Your explanations and drawings help this “new to quilting” know how to add borders!! Thank you so much for your time and your clear instruction on the “how and what” in making borders. 😊
Wow! I'm one who sews and cuts her borders. I know exactly who you were speaking of. I watch her videos all the time. I really do like the way you are doing borders and will definitely use your method. Makes so much sense to me.. Thank you.
Thank you so much for such an informative video. I'm a new quilter and I found your channel through doing face masks. You really take the time to explain everything all the way through. I live in Ireland but would love to get the chance to visit your shop some time......once all this madness goes away. Love your videos
I found her via face masks, too! There's an applique quilt in that face mask video that is my inspiration for quilting. I am cutting out my first quilt now, and will one day be able to make that quilt!
Wow, I learned so much!!!! I feel as if I just took a class I paid for. Thank you so much! This is the first of your videos that I’ve seen, but I can’t wait to go watch more!
This is the best border discussion ever!!! Your demonstrations are very informative. I have a quilter friend who does not understand the need to measure, cut and pin. She sews them on and cuts. I want to share this with her and hopefully she will finally understand. Every video of yours has been wonderful. I would like to take a trip to Washington to meet you. Thanks for all you do. Janet from Santa Rosa, Ca.
So interesting! I am a “wing it” quilter and I always did the sew on the border and snip method without realizing that is what causes my quilts to be a little weird. Wow. Thanks. Guess I need a tape measure.
Fantastic information! I was making a tote with a narrow center panel and several borders to make it larger while I watched this. My tote was looking off/weird---I narrowed the borders per your instructions and it is much better! Works for other projects too. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this video. I learned so much. I am a new, self taught quilter and have a quilt that I need to make larger with borders to fit my bed. Now I know how to do it
Cindi, excellent explanation! As a beginning quilter this is exactly what I needed to see. I like that it wasn’t “just do it this way” you showed the reason why it was so important and what will happen if you do not measure. Thank you!
Excellent video, thank you for taking the time to explain adding boarders and the importance of measuring and trouble shooting. Showing examples of quilts and drawing pictures was extremely helpful! You are an excellent teacher.
This was so very helpful. Often I will see quilt in a magazine that's a wall hanging or throw but I want a bed quilt. Now I know what to do when no option for making it larger and it's not easy to just add more blocks to make it a bed size. I will likely view this video again and make notes! Thank you so much for all the options and advice.
Thank you for making so much sense!! Totally worth the time to watch. I think I'll be watching it again to make it sink in. So helpful. I don't want all my work to end up disappointing.
I really love how you are so open with your information and the reasons why it should be done that way. I have only been quilting for three years and just found you. Wonderful video and will be watching the rest of your videos. Thank you!
Hi Cindi from the UK and thank you so much for this brilliantly informative tutorial. The row sampler quilt along has taught me so much and I can't thank you enough
@@TheFabricPatch So glad to hear you have more classes planned as I have learned so much form you in the past few weeks and loved every minute of it, my quilt is coming along and once I have it together I will send you a picture ❤️
Wow this is fantastic instructions. Thank You , Thank You , Thank You ! I never gave this any thought but I will from now on. This is awesome great information. Your the Best! 💕
Wow such a common sense way of thinking but never accrued to me before. I always did the lay it on, sew it and then cut off the extras. Totally make sense now. THANK YOU for sharing.
Your instructions solve the dilemma of “squaring up” a finished top that’s off a smidge+.. That has been a frustrating step that I simply just started to ignore. Great tips!
I loved this tutorial! Good explanations and examples. I'm working on a quilt right now that I need to add borders to make it bigger so this was great! Thank you!
Thank you so much for breaking these topics down to something manageable. I have had issues with some of my projects not being square and didn't really understand how to fix it. Coping strips to the rescue in a current WIP.
Brilliant tutorial and tips...thank you. The math process & diagrams made perfect sense. I've seen many others try to explain this, but yours finally made it sink in! Found your channel by accident, and will watch more. May need to make a road trip to Ephrata, too....I'm on the west side of WA. You have a beautiful retreat center.
I finished my 1600 top, and it was so fun to sew! I put the borders on using your directions. OMG Cindi... my borders turned out perfectly! Top & bottom both measured 61” ! And my side borders both measured 78 1/8”!! I’ve made several quilts, but never had this happen. Thank you for sharing this method.
Wow! Great tutorial. Your are an outstanding teacher. I truly appreciate these easy instructions. I am looking forward to applying these new skills to my next quilt.
Great video! New quilter here, what do you do if before you plan your borders, one side is longer than 2 inches? Do you somehow square it up first before cutting borders?
Thank you for this wonderful tutorial. Your presentation was very clear, well presented and precise. So many sites demonstrate how to assemble a quilt but never show how to add borders or explain the mathematics and logic behind it as you have done. I am new to quilting so am anxious to learn new techniques to avoid mistakes which can not only be frustrating, but costly. I will be following you intently from now on. Sheila from UK
