I had the privilege of seeing the revival, during the very short 6 weeks run in the summer 1983. I wrote to Miss Lansbury prior to seeing show, telling her I have an original marquee poster from 1970. She wrote me back and invited me to the stage door, she signed my poster and talking with me. She is and will always be one of the kindest person I ever met.

This really is one of the biggest curtain calls ever and, I agree, epic is a perfect word. Very deserved response for Lansbury.

I, too, was lucky to see her in "Mame" at Muny Opera in St. Louis, in the summer of 1976. I was even more fortunate 2 summers later when I saw her in "Gypsy" in 1978 at the Starlight in Kansas City. After the show a friend and I waited by the door to meet her. Her husband brought her out and she talked to us for about 25-30 minutes she was getting ready to begin rehearsals for "Sweeney Todd". She was the warmest, classiest lady I have ever met in my entire life!

Thank heaven for illegal videotaping! Without it we'd never have got to see this.

I was actually there in the audience for this. This is from the revival at The Uris Theater; before it was re-named The Gershwin. I worked as a Bartender there in the 80's. This production was over the top Amazing!

I have no idea how the sopranos were able to sing this show 8 times a week. MADNESS, those vocal arrangements!

It's called being an ACCOMPLISHED "professional", and is why only the BEST "of the Best" make it to Broadway.

One of the greatest legacies of Hollywood is the bad casting they have done for a number of movie musicals, when they blatantly put "bankable" well-known actors and actresses into dramatic/musical roles that they had no business playing instead of the incredible talent that originated the exact same roles on Broadway, and often for whom the songs were written.

Such a classy lady she's a showstopper but doesn't hog the stage notice how she bows to her cast mates as a way to say thank you before bowing to the audience

A company is getting ready to open this in my hometown…Very proud of the fact that the Artistic Director isn't afraid of the Broadway Classic and even more proud he had the younger cast members research Lansbury's first production of the show…An actor in town, Joe Gallison, yes that Joe Gallison, was in that production…Very Proud...

Too bad the Golden Era Broadway musicals were not preserved on film for future generations.

Did the revival cut the last two scenes?? The video doesn't seem to have a cut anywhere in it, but maybe I'm just not hearing it. If so, WHY did the revival cut the last two scenes??

    • @aahwUNL11
      @aahwUNL11 10 лет назад +1

Looks like there is a cut, however imperceptible. The staircase is on at the end when the cast starts bowing, and Angela finished "If He Walked Into My Life" on a bare stage.

    • @nickahlers7098

There’s absolutely a cut in this video. The last two scenes are integral to the resolution of the plot. I imagine the cut in the video occurred during the blackout after If He Walked Into My Life.

Why don't audiences shout and clap like that anymore. It needs to come back.

Not even watchable there's several Mame Revival videos that I don't understand why people don't clean them up before they post them

You’re lucky to see it all as none of this footage is actually legally obtained. Stop whining and enjoy what you’ve got.
      I think Mame would agree.
